Alan Jackson’s Wife Was Not A Fan Of One Of His #1 Hits: “I Wrote This Song That She Told Me Was Stupid”

Turned out pretty well in the long run. With Alan Jackson dominating headlines this week as tickets for his star-studded final show in Nashville, Last Call: One More For The Road – The Finale, sold out just hours after the presale went live, all eyes have been on the “Chattahoochee” singer as of late. Of course, this is for good reason. Beyond being a celebration of the living legend’s four-decade career, the concert will feature the likes of Luke Bryan, Eric Church, Luke Combs, Riley Green, Cody Johnson, Miranda Lambert, Jon Pardi, Carrie Underwood, Keith Urban, Lee Ann Womack and more as performers along with Jackson. As we continue to celebrate the accomplishments leading up to his grand finale on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at Nissan Stadium, it’s hard not to take a look back at the songs that populate his illustrious career that allowed him to sell nearly 60 million records sold worldwide, receive 14 certified-platinum albums from the RIAA, win 22 ACM Awards, 17 CMA Awards and two Grammys and score 35 #1 hits (including 26 on Billboard’s various charts). With so many songs and hits in his discography, there was bound to be some disagreements when it came time to release singles, whether it was with his label, his management team or his wife of 45 years, Denise. And it just so happens that one of these songs was none other than his 2001 #1 hit, “Where I Come From.” In an interview with Bobby Bones on The Bobby Bones Show back in 2021, Jackson revealed that Denise typically had quite a bit of input on which songs he selected for album cuts and eventual singles, calling her a “good board” to bounce ideas off of. “My wife’s a pretty good board to bounce it off of. I just feel like I know when gut instinct tells me, usually, if it’s a pretty good song. I’m not always right. I’ve written a lot of things that I realize weren’t top shelf. Everybody does, and you don’t really know [until it’s written].” As previously mentioned, however, Denise was not a fan of “Where I Come From.” Actively pushing against the release of it as a single, the 67-year-old singer/songwriter noted that she thought the song was stupid, potentially due to the slightly cheesy, straightforward nature of the ode to southern living. “I wrote this song that she told me was stupid, and it went on to be a #1 hit, so you never know.” Luckily for Jackson, he went against Denise’s wishes, and released it as a single on July 9, 2001. Three months later, it would become his 18th #1 atop Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart, staying there for three non-consecutive weeks in October and November 2001. It’s safe to say this is one of the rare occasions where actively going against your wife actually paid off in the long run. Nevertheless, it’s still a funny tidbit from the storied history of Jackson’s career. Trump, Zelensky Meet at White House as Kiev Seeks Tomahawk Missiles

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with President Donald Trump on Friday at the White House to discuss the potential transfer of long-range Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine. At the center of the talks was a proposal in which Ukraine would provide the United States with advanced drones in exchange for Tomahawk missiles. Trump expressed hesitation about the deal, emphasizing the need to maintain U.S. stockpiles. “We need Tomahawks for the United States of America too,” he said. “We have a lot of them, but we need them.” Trump said that sending Tomahawk missiles to Ukraine “could mean bigger escalation, a lot of bad things can happen.” At the start of the meeting, Zelensky congratulated Trump on his recent Middle East peace deal, saying, “I think this is momentum to finish Russia’s war against Ukraine.” Trump voiced confidence in his ability to help end the conflict, saying both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Zelensky want to see the war concluded. The meeting came a day after Trump said he had a “very productive” phone call with Putin. In a post on Truth Social, Trump announced that meetings between senior Russian and American advisers are expected next week. Trump also wrote that a summit between him and Putin will take place in Budapest, Hungary, aimed at bringing what he called the “inglorious” war between Russia and Ukraine to an end. The timing of the summit remains unclear. Trump suggested Friday that Zelensky may be involved in the upcoming talks in Budapest, saying, “Most likely it will be a double meeting.” He added that the Ukrainian and Russian presidents would likely not meet face to face.
