Image: Honda Out to prove that the sports coupe is far from dead, Honda announced the return of the Prelude with an all-new hybrid-electric powertrain. It’s been over two decades since Honda last released a new Prelude, but the company began laying the groundwork for its return with the release of a concept version last year. Now, a hybrid Prelude is scheduled to arrive in the US in 2025. It will also mark the debut of Honda S+ Shift, a new drive mode that the company says “further advances Linear Shift Control to deliver maximum levels of driver engagement.” The company is also describing the Prelude as having “two motors,” but that doesn’t make it dual-motor or AWD. Honda’s hybrid powertrain has had two motors for several generations, both of which sit adjacent to the internal combustion engine. The debut of Honda S+ Shift “One electric motor acts as a generator, creating electricity for the battery and propulsion,” Honda spokesperson Chris Naughton said, and the other is a traction motor that propels the vehicle — and captures regen when slowing. There’s not much else to note about the Prelude’s return; Honda is probably waiting until closer to the production to release key specs. I’m sure there will be some bemoaning the fact that Honda had an opportunity to release a fully electric Prelude that would have been rad as hell. To be sure, the company says it’s still committed to achieving carbon neutrality for all of its “products and corporate activity” by 2050 — and that includes 100 percent of EV sales by 2040. But Honda also has a pretty good track record for hybrid vehicles, which it considers an important bridge to full EVs. And clearly, the US is heading toward a dark period for EV sales with the incoming Trump administration expected to roll back a lot of the incentives and regulations aimed at growing EV adoption. Hybrid-electric trims currently make up more than 50 percent of Accord and CR-V sales, and the newly introduced Civic hybrid is expected to ultimately represent about 40 percent of Civic sales. A 15 MINUTE APPETIZER RECIPE I think this has to be one of my favorite appetizers to make and bring to any kind of gathering (holiday parties, football parties, etc.) This appetizer has been around forever but I make mine a little different. Most people just throw some pepper jelly on top of a brick of cream cheese and call it done. While that is delicious itself, I like to add a bit of seasoning and cheddar cheese to the cream cheese and then heat it all up together. I think it really takes it over the top and I tell you, I get asked for this recipe time and time again so you know it’s a winner! The combination of savory cheddar, green onions and pepper jelly creates a balanced, flavorful, creamy warm dip. And I love that it’s ready in just 15 minutes! It has a tiny little kick but nothing that I would describe as really spicy hot and I am sensitive to spices. Spread evenly in the pie dish. Wipe the edges of the pie dish so it is clean from the cream cheese. Top the cream cheese mixture with the warmed pepper jelly so all of the cream cheese is covered.  Bake for 10 minutes or until the dip is hot. Andrew Ridgeley has been promoting the new BBC documentary Wham!: Last Christmas Unwrapped, which gives an insider look into the making of Wham!’s holiday classic from 1984. “Last Christmas” was released 40 years ago, complete with a story-telling music video featuring Andrew and his bandmate George Michael. George portrayed a boy who had given his heart to some girl last Christmas, only for her to give it away to Andrew’s character. Also appearing in the music video were Wham!’s backing vocalists, Pepsi DeMacque and Shirlie Holliman of the Pepsi and Shirlie duo. The visuals for “Last Christmas” were appealing for the holidays, as it was set in a snowy ski resort. Decades later, Andrew, Pepsi, and Shirlie revisited the places where the music video was shot for the newly released BBC documentary. Although it was a wholesome full-circle moment, Andrew wished he had his late friend and partner George to explore the Swiss Mountains with. He admitted that the making of Wham! Last Christmas Unwrapped felt incomplete without George, who died of heart and liver disease on December 25, 2016.
