Had to get the tempo right. It’s officially release week for Megan Moroney‘s third studio record, Cloud 9, and fans can’t wait to hear the tracklist in full. Of course, fans have gotten a taste of what’s in store for the record with her singles “6 Months Later,” “Cloud 9,” “Wish I Didn’t” and “Beautiful Things.” “6 Months Later” has been a massive success for Moroney since its release, earning her a third number-one hit on country radio. THANK YOU COUNTRY RADIO!!! https://t.co/pv2HVtMjNq — Megan Moroney (@_megmoroney) January 18, 2026 Written by Moroney with Ben Williams, David “Messy” Mescon, and Rob Hatch, like many of her songs, “6 Months Later” focuses on heartbreak and how she’s coping in the wake of a breakup, and obviously, I’m biased, but her lines in the bridge about how she only got stronger, blonder and hotter go so hard… It’s a total summer jam, featuring an extremely catchy melody and all-too-relatable lyrics that detail how a relationship went sideways. However, the guy keeps popping back up now and then when she’s just about over it. Classic, am I right, ladies? “6 Months Later,” a summer jam, makes total sense after learning that Moroney wrote the track while on a yacht. During a recent conversation with Katie Neal, host of Katie & Company, Moroney shared a bit about the day the song came to life and how it was the only song she wrote on the trip where it was born. Neal asked Moroney to walk listeners through the day that she wrote “6 Months Later.” “On a boat. This seems to be the theme. We were in the middle of the ocean on a boat. We take our writers’ trip every year down on a friend’s yacht, and we wrote it the first day we were on the trip. So we were supposed to write songs the whole time, and usually you leave those trips with like eight songs, or ten, or something like that. We only wrote ‘6 Months Later’ that trip because it was so good that anything else we tried to start, I was like, ‘It’s not as good as “6 Months Later.”‘ The track is a stellar tune, so I can see how she felt nothing compared to creating that concept and lyrics. Moroney also shared that the tempo of this song was very important to her and that she wanted it to be one you could run to (which is always good therapy when a man is frustrating you). “And when we wrote that, we went on a run, and the tempo was too slow, and I wanted to be able to run to ‘6 Months Later.’ So now the tempo you hear on the radio is running approved. That’s why sometimes you have to figure out… I’m like, ‘Something is not right with this. I’m like lagging right now, and I need to be hyped up.'” “6 Months Later” definitely gets her fans hyped up, and it’s become a quick favorite from her catalog. I am sure that even with new songs being gifted to them in the next few days, it will remain a hit. But now I’m curious what the lower-key tempo of the tune sounded like… Maybe one day we will get that from Moroney. View this post on Instagram Coinciding with the album’s announcement, Emerson also released a new single, “Jet Plane,” a song he wrote after traveling miles in the sky, turning his fear into a love song. “‘Jet Plane’ is a love song I wrote after taking too many plane rides. Flying isn’t something I’m very fond of, but it’s an occupational hazard. I guess sometimes love songs can be too.” The soft, slow lyrics draw the listener into a love-struck haze, filled with steel guitar and silky-smooth vocals. Emerson turned his fear of flying into a dreamlike state, turning his time in the clouds into a tune about finding peace with the woman he loves. “I was blinded by the sunlight on the waves And it reminds me how you shine on everything Turn on your light and let it shine down on me” “Jet Plane” shares the same vibe as the previously released tune “The Great Highway,” which draws on Emerson’s life as a traveling musician and turns it into profound metaphors. “Jet Plane” has me excited to see what else is in store for Blue Stars come April.
