Plans for taking on Massie were in the works before the congressman decided to call Trump’s attack on Iran unconstitutional, a Trump aide said. Trump’s operation has been talking with potential Republican challengers to Massie. Aides say the goal is to rally around one Massie opponent, so that multiple rivals don’t splinter support. The Trump team earlier this month quietly commissioned a survey gauging Massie’s support in his conservative central Kentucky district and found that the congressman would be vulnerable to a Trump-backed primary challenge. The survey, which was conducted by Trump pollster John McLaughlin, found that 52 percent would support a Trump-endorsed candidate and 23 percent support Massie. Eighty-seven percent approved of Trump, compared to 52 percent for Massie, according to the poll, a copy of which was obtained by Axios. Seventy-four percent said they supported the “big beautiful bill.”

Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar is the largest U.S. base in the Middle East. It was a major staging ground for U.S. military assets during the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, and President Trump visited troops at the facility just last month. There are some 8,000 U.S. troops based at al-Udeid.

A federal judge ordered the release of the suspected MS-13 lionized by Democrats as a “Maryland man,” but now the Trump administration has appealed the decision and hinted that he could be recaptured and deported again if he is freed. Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the illegal alien who was famously deported to his home country of El Salvador earlier this year, was brought back to the United States to stand trial in a human smuggling case in Tennessee after the Supreme Court ordered the Trump administration to facilitate his return to America. U.S. Magistrate Judge Barbara Holmes has ordered his release before his trial. “Overall, the Court cannot find from the evidence presented that Abrego’s release clearly and convincingly poses an irremediable danger to other persons or to the community,” Holmes wrote in her decision, which the Department of Justice swiftly appealed. A hearing on his release is scheduled for Wednesday. But even if he is released, the Department of Homeland Security says he will not go free. “Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a dangerous criminal illegal alien,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told The Daily Wire. “We have said it for months and it remains true to this day: he will never go free on American soil.” Abrego Garcia could be captured by Immigration and Customs Enforcement and potentially deported once again, the DOJ noted in its appeal. “Defendant could face potential deportation from the United States in the near future should Judge Holmes’ impending release order remain in effect,” the DOJ document asserts. The federal government accuses Abrego Garcia of smuggling hundreds of illegal aliens, including children and MS-13 gang members, throughout the United States. The illegal alien was stopped by the Tennessee Highway Patrol in 2022 while transporting a large group of men, all of whom said they did not have driver’s licenses and could not speak English. “He’s getting paid to haul these people, probably to Maryland, I would say,” a Tennessee Highway Patrol officer said during the stop. “Sometimes they come in with dope.” Another officer pointed out that Abrego Garcia’s van appeared to have been modified to have an extra row of seats, another indication that he could be smuggling illegal aliens across the country. Abrego Garcia, who was also accused by his wife of being a domestic abuser, has been defended by Democrat politicians who have referred to the foreign national as a “Maryland man.” Sen. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD) and Rep. Glenn Ivey (D-MD) both flew to El Salvador to visit the illegal alien, with the representative referring to Abrego Garcia as his constituent. Reps. Maxwell Frost (D-FL), Robert Garcia (D-CA), and Yassamin Ansari (D-AZ) also traveled to El Salvador but were denied a meeting.
