With the recent release of Mutiny After Midnight, a tour would certainly make sense. However, we haven’t gotten an official word on whether or not the artist formerly known as Sturgill Simpson will go out on the road this year. Unless you count this recent post from JBS a tour announcement. Interestingly enough, this latest image shared on social media comes around a week after Mutiny After Midnight came out on March 13. Fans were originally told that the only way to listen via physical media, as the original announcement of the album said that fans would only be able to get their hands on vinyl, cassette and CDs – A.K.A. no digital or streaming option. That’s how it’s played out… minus Sturgill leaking his own album after dropping a limited quantity of vinyls a few weeks early. He explained why they ended up doing that in a story on his Instagram page “We had originally planned a physical only release for at least the first 4 to 6 weeks to support and show solidarity with independent record shops and to promote an increasingly bygone physical and tangible connection between music and music fans… the almost mystical bond and stems from holding a new piece of artistic expression in your hands while hearing it for the first time. There were some hiccups (and some opportunists) thus some in the moment adjustments that only led to more fun and chaos. Personally, I’m just here for the chaos. Plus I’ve always really wanted to leak my own record.” Sturgill has even had to chase down someone out there who was trying to sell Mutiny After Midnight on an online music platform called Bandcamp. He said he was going to “Duke Nukem” (people alive in the 90s will get that) the person responsible. But aside from those small hiccups, the release of the latest project from Johnny Blue Skies has been a success. JBS even shared that it’s the biggest “first week” of any album of his career, and it came through an organic, grass roots movement really. No interviews. No performances. Nothing extra… just a whole lot of memes posted through social media. So it would make sense to capitalize on that momentum and announce a tour for 2026, and he’s already hinted at playing the new music in front of fans soon. And this latest post from the official Johnny Blue Skies account certainly looks like something that could be used as promotional material for a new tour celebrating Mutiny After Midnight. Correct me if I’m wrong, but it appears that the pirate ship – presumably owned and operated by the Dread Pirate Johnny Blue Skies – is setting sail. The disco ball in the sky a) matches up with the Mutiny After Midnight album art and b) is a phenomenal artistic touch. View this post on Instagram Now we just have to wait and see if it’s called the “Mutiny After Midnight Tour” or the “Make America Fuk Again Tour.” I’m gonna put my money on it being the latter… has a nice ring to it. Until the official tour announcement arrives, Mutiny After Midnight is officially out right now. If you want to listen to it, you’ll have to go out and get your hands on a physical copy. There will eventually be a digital/streaming version, but you’ll have to wait for that… and if you do, you’ll be rewarded with a couple of “bonus songs.” Sounds like a win-win for everyone… and a huge win for Johnny Blue Skies and the Dark Clouds.
