House GOP Passes DOGE Cuts by a Whisker After Chaos on Floor

The House Republicans successfully passed a rescissions package to cut $9.4 billion from foreign aid and public broadcasting Thursday, in the first major codification of President Donald Trump’s efforts to restructure the federal government. The rescissions package, which targeted funding for the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) as well as for National Public Radio (NPR) and the Public Broadcasting Service (PBS), was passed on a vote of 214-212.  ‘NO EXCUSE’: REPUBLICANS MUST PUT THEIR MONEY WHERE THEIR MOUTH IS AND PASS DOGE CUTSLink: @bradleydevlin @DailySignal https://t.co/xQrfZNs8i0 pic.twitter.com/8mGFmSemQr— Rob Bluey (@RobertBluey) June 12, 2025 A rescission bill is a cost-cutting piece of legislation, delivered by the president to Congress, that requires just a simple majority in both chambers. It’s a quick way for Congress to claw back discretionary funds. The package includes cuts to spending, such as “$6 million for Net Zero Cities” in Mexico and “$6 million for supporting media organizations and civic life of Palestinians,” according to a press release from House Speaker Mike Johnson’s office. House Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Harris, R-Md., told The Daily Signal a few hours before the vote that he viewed it an important first step towards reducing government spending. “This is a single step. It’s not a large amount of money, given the size of our budget deficit, and budget debt, and our federal debt, but it’s a start,” Harris told The Daily Signal. A number of congressional Republicans told The Daily Signal before the vote that this would serve as a test of Republicans’ commitment in proposing cuts to the federal government. Asked Wednesday if he thought Republicans would lose credibility if the bill failed, Rep. Mark Harris, R-N.C., told The Daily Signal, “I most definitely do.” He added, “I find that hard to believe, and I don’t know of any Republicans right now [who are opposed]. I hear a rumor that there may be some opposed to this. I can’t imagine any Republican that would vote against this rescissions package, because we all ran on these things.” NPR is taxpayer-funded, propagandistic garbage. We don’t need state-sponsored media in our country. pic.twitter.com/Y1o2aCVoZL— Congressman Brandon Gill (@RepBrandonGill) May 28, 2025 Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., similarly told The Daily Signal in a statement that “voters last November handed President Trump a broad mandate to reduce the size of the federal government, and they damn well expect Congress to pass this legislation that keeps President Trump’s promise, or they will pay dearly next November.” The day before the vote, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., made it clear that his party would provide little or no help in passing the package. Asked Wednesday if any Democrats would back it, Jeffries replied, “I think there’s going to be strong Democratic opposition here in the House. We’re going to work hard to kill the legislation here.” The minority leader contended that the cuts to USAID would harm American interests abroad. Jeffries added that the bill was “assaulting Bert, Ernie, Big Bird, Elmo, and all of the people connected to ‘Sesame Street.’” “That’s extraordinary. I mean, who are these people?” he said. “Sesame Street,” a children’s show, has aired on PBS since 1970. But this vote was of extreme importance to the White House and to House leadership, who presented it as a way to make good on Trump’s promises to cut wasteful spending. “This rescissions package is a strong first step toward advancing [the Department of Government Efficiency’s] mission and reining in reckless spending,” House Majority Whip Tom Emmer, R-Minn., told The Daily Signal in a statement Wednesday. White House hammers liberals for gaslighting about LA riots: Burning cities isn't justice — it's chaos

The Los Angeles riots have largely petered out; however, the narrative battle over their nature and significance rages on ahead of the nationwide "No Kings" uprisings championed by billionaire Walmart heiress Christy Walton. The White House published a provocative, 48-second video on Wednesday juxtaposing audio from liberal news coverage characterizing the uprisings in L.A. as "rallies" and "protests" with images of radicals burning vehicles, clashing with police, and attacking federal agents.RELATED: It's not a riot, it's an invasion Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images"What's happening in Los Angeles aren't 'peaceful rallies' — they're third-world insurrection riots on American soil," stated the White House.A previous video shared by the administration provides strong indications of whose statements the White House was refuting, namely Democratic Sens. Cory Booker (N.J.), Elizabeth Warren (Mass.), and Alex Padilla (Calif.); twice-failed presidential candidate Kamala Harris; and CNN talking head Dana Bash."The reality is we see peaceful protests launching in Los Angeles," Booker told NBC News' "Meet the Press" prior to Trump's deployment of the National Guard. "Remember: A lot of these peaceful protests are being generated because the president of the United States is sowing chaos and confusion by arresting people who are showing up for their immigration hearings."RELATED: Twin daughters of top Los Angeles Democrat arrested in ICE riots for allegedly assaulting police officer with deadly weapon Photo by Tayfun Coskun/Anadolu via Getty ImagesPadilla emphasized to CBS News on Tuesday the "peaceful nature of the protests," suggesting that the "folks that show up after dark and are involved with the looting and the vandalism — which has no place, it's wrong and we denounce that — are a very different group of people."Contrary to Padilla's suggestion, a great deal of the vandalism and violence that occurred over the weekend took place in broad daylight.'Looting an Adidas store isn't justice.'When condemning Trump's deployment of the National Guard, Sen. Warren suggested that it amounted to a "dangerous escalation" in response to people peacefully protesting — another whitewash of the violence and mischaracterization of the scene on the ground. — (@) Kamala Harris said in a June 8 statement that the "demonstrations in defense of our immigrant neighbors have been overwhelmingly peaceful," characterizing the lawful actions of the Trump administration alternatively as "cruel" and "dangerous."Dana Bash suggested that the uprising in Los Angeles was not "a real riot." The White House confronted the doubters with "a few simple truths" about the Los Angeles riots in a statement accompanying its new video, noting: "Looting an Adidas store isn't justice. Burning cities isn't speech. Gavin Newsom isn't a good governor."White House spokeswoman Abigail Jackson told Blaze News in a statement, "As a direct result of Gavin Newsom’s failed, incompetent leadership, violent rioters have attacked law enforcement officers, lit cars on fire, and engaged in lawless chaos — all while waving foreign flags and declaring their hatred for American law enforcement. That is not something that should be happening in America — and everyone should be able to acknowledge that."This is not the first time that the White House has posted about "simple truths" on social media. In a May 2 post captioned "four simple truths," the White House shared a picture of Kamala Harris labeled "not president"; a picture of MS-13 associate Kilmar Abrego Garcia labeled "not a 'Maryland man'"; a picture of the National Public Radio logo labeled "not real news"; and a picture of the Gulf of America labeled "not Gulf of Mexico.Like Blaze News? Kamala, Newsom, AOC outed: Leaked DHS memo claims they back violent illegal aliens over Americans

As President Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security works to clean up the illegal immigration crisis caused by the former Biden administration, a leaked internal memo from the department named several "open borders politicians" who allegedly defended "illegal alien rapists, murders, [and] pedophiles."The unclassified memo accused progressive politicians of prioritizing illegal immigrant criminals and violent rioters over law enforcement and their American citizen constituents, citing the recent destructive and violent protests in Los Angeles, California, last week. 'ICE, get the f**k out of LA so that order can be restored.'"Since June 6, thousands of violent rioters protesting [Immigration and Customs Enforcement] operations in Los Angeles have assaulted law enforcement officers with concrete chunks and Molotov cocktails, attacked federal buildings, burned cars, and destroyed other public and private property throughout the city," the leaked memo read. "Still, open borders politicians have consistently defended, excused and denied the violence."The DHS accused the leftist politicians of attempting to blame the lawless protests on ICE.RELATED: Tim Walz grilled for comparing ICE agents to 'Nazi Gestapo' Former Vice President Kamala Harris. Photo by Mario Tama/Getty Images"Leftists slander law enforcement, lie about Trump policies, and praise illegal aliens," the memo continued. The department's internal document listed several Democratic politicians: former Vice President Kamala Harris, California Governor Gavin Newsom, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, Senator Chris Murphy of Connecticut, and Representatives Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York and Maxine Waters of California. Additionally, it referred to Rep. Norma Torres of California but mistakenly listed her as "Yvette Torres."The DHS included quotes from each of the individuals to support its claims that the politicians "put Americans last" by defending illegal alien criminals. It quoted Harris stating, "Demonstrations in defense of our immigrant neighbors have been overwhelmingly peaceful."The memo noted that Newsom, during his June 10th address to California, said, "[Trump's] administration is pushing mass deportations, indiscriminately targeting hardworking immigrant families, regardless of their roots or risk. What's happening right now is very different than anything we've seen before."A comment attributed to Bass read, "Stop the raids. There is a real fear in Los Angeles right now. Parents, workers, grandparents, young people scared to go about their daily lives. We are a city of immigrants. Washington is attacking our people, our neighborhoods, and our economy."RELATED: DHS posts 'foreign invaders' deportation meme — and liberals can't cope Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass. Photo by Mario Tama/Getty ImagesThe DHS quoted Sen. Murphy stating, "This is a moment where we have to be on the streets all over the country. ... [President Trump is] trying to turn a protest that is pretty small into something that involves an even bigger confrontation."It included a comment from Ocasio-Cortez that read, "It is 100% carrying water for the opposition to participate in this collective delusion that Dems for some reason need to answer for every teen who throws a rock, rather than hold the Trump admin accountable for intentionally creating chaos and breaking the law to stoke violence.""ICE, get the f**k out of L.A. so that order can be restored," Torres was cited as saying.Waters was quoted as stating, "Don't think that somehow, because they called out the National Guard, there was violence. There was no violence."DHS noted that ICE arrested "murderers, rapists, pedophiles, and other heinous scumbags" during the Los Angeles operation. The department stated that the leftist politicians have continued to "stand firmly with foreign nationals invading America and causing mayhem" and therefore "do not care about the American people's safety or law enforcement."The DHS added that the politicians' policies would "never put America first" and that they are "squarely on the side of criminal illegal aliens.""The Trump Administration will always put the American people first and defend law enforcement working to keep America safe," the department concluded.Representatives for Harris, Newsom, Ocasio-Cortez, Bass, Torres, Waters, and Murphy did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Blaze News. — (@) Like Blaze News? Soothe menstrual inflammation with this little-known holistic secret

Every woman gets their period, but very few understand it.And while many choose to use artificial fixes like hormonal birth control to relieve period symptoms, this doesn’t actually regulate or fix the menstrual cycle — it simply shuts the menstrual cycle down.“A natural menstrual cycle is beneficial for women, because it’s how we make hormones,” naturopathic doctor Lara Briden tells BlazeTV host Allie Beth Stuckey on “Relatable,” explaining that to give women birth control to solve all their problems is a “reckless approach.”And there are other solutions to issues like painful periods that aren’t birth control.“I definitely have friends who say, ‘I just have horrible periods, they’re really heavy, I have horrible, debilitating cramps,’” Stuckey says. “A lot of doctors will say the only remedy is birth control, but you have a natural approach to that, so where should women start if they’re in any of those boats?”“I’ll give you two examples, which are kind of my favorite ones because they can really move the needle on symptoms,” Briden says. “If young women or teenagers are having very heavy periods, painful periods, one of the things I have learned early on, and then I’ve just seen in practice again and again, is that it can improve by switching the kind of dairy cow’s dairy they’re eating.”According to Briden, unlike “A2 milk,” certain dairy proteins can be “quite inflammatory for some people” and that inflammation “can manifest as heavier flow, or more painful flow, or premenstrual mood symptoms.”“Another example is the nutrient zinc. A zinc supplement can relieve period pain,” she explains. “There’s been at least one clinical trial where they tested zinc in direct comparison to the pill for period pain, and they found that zinc worked as well as the pill.”Zinc is not only cheaper than the pill, but Briden notes that it also “doesn’t shut down the menstrual cycle.”“So it sounds like there are a lot of potential natural remedies for the menstrual issues that people have that aren’t suppressing someone’s very necessary ovulatory cycle,” Stuckey comments.“It’s 2025, we don’t have to shut down women’s entire hormonal systems just to avoid pregnancy,” Briden agrees.Want more from Allie Beth Stuckey? To enjoy more of Allie’s upbeat and in-depth coverage of culture, news, and theology from a Christian, conservative perspective, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
