EXCLUSIVE: Small Business Administration Announces Manufacturing Loan Surge, Challenging Anti-Tariff Narrative

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—As Democrats criticize tariffs as bad for business, the Trump administration’s Small Business Administration announced an almost 75% surge in loans to small manufacturers, The Daily Signal has learned. “Loan applications and approvals for small manufacturers are surging—a clear sign that American manufacturing is roaring back, fueled by pro-growth policies that put American workers and businesses first,” said SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler. The number of SBA 7(a) loan approvals for small manufacturers has increased by 74% compared with the same period during the Biden administration, according to the SBA. Kelly Loeffler testifies befort the Senate Small Business and Entrepreneurship Committee on Jan. 29. (Nathan Posner/Anadolu via Getty Images) President Donald Trump announced reciprocal tariffs on U.S. trading partners on April 7, a date he termed “Liberation Day.” In the ensuing weeks, Democrat lawmakers have claimed tariffs “are putting small businesses in an impossible position.” “Business owners are forced to decide between absorbing the costs while risking staff layoffs and potential closure, or passing the increased costs along to their customers, with whom they have built a relationship and who are already facing high prices due to inflation,” a coalition of Democrats led by Sen. Jacky Rosen of Nevada wrote. “Simply put, President Trump’s blanket tariffs will have catastrophic impacts on American small businesses and consumers.” But manufacturing has been on the “rebound” since Trump took office, “boosted by his pro-business agenda—including tax cuts, deregulation, energy independence and tariffs,” according to an SBA news release previewed by The Daily Signal. Since Trump’s inauguration on Jan. 20, the SBA has approved more than 1,120 loan guarantees under the 7(a) loan program for manufacturers, comprising a total loan volume of $677 million. The 7(a) loan program offers government guarantees to lenders to help small businesses finance equipment purchases, real estate acquisition, working capital, and business expansion. SBA chief Kelly Loeffler speaks at Vantage Plastics in Bay City, Michigan, on March 14. (Jeff Kowalsky/AFP via Getty Images) Under the Biden administration during the same period in 2021, the SBA approved less than 650 7(a)loans with a total loan volume of $497 million. The vast majority, nearly 99%, of American manufacturers are considered small businesses, the SBA says. “Thanks to President Trump’s agenda to restore economic and national security,” said Loeffler, a former Republican senator from Georgia. “SBA is helping to power an industrial comeback—meeting massive demand to help America’s small producers expand operations, create good-paying jobs, and restore our supply chains.” During Trump’s first month in office, the country gained 10,000 manufacturing jobs after losing more than 111,000 under Biden in 2024. The U.S. Small Business Administration headquarters (Chip Somodevilla/Getty Images) Loeffler last week visited a Baltimore plant, Marlin Steel Industries, which employs 115 people. The plant’s owner, Drew Greenblatt, told her tariffs are leveling the playing field for his small business. “Because of the recent tariffs, we are winning jobs. We got an order for five tractor-trailer loads of [wire and steel] product,” Greenblatt said. “This is a phenomenal thing for Baltimore city, and we are going to see a lot more wins coming.” Last month, the SBA announced the Made in America Manufacturing Initiative, a campaign that it says will cut $100 billion in red tape, increase access to capital, and promote a skilled workforce. Agency leaders have met with more than 150 small manufacturers across the country as part of the initiative. “America’s small businesses—which make up 99% of private sector employers—will be the biggest beneficiaries of President Trump’s fair trade policies,” Loeffler said on X on March 31. “Restoring Made in the USA is good for our economy, our workers, AND our national security. America’s small businesses – which make up 99% of private sector employers – will be the biggest beneficiaries of President Trump’s fair trade policies.Restoring Made in the USA is good for our economy, our workers, AND our national security. https://t.co/EzxbulGdYu— Kelly Loeffler (@SBA_Kelly) March 31, 2025 The post EXCLUSIVE: Small Business Administration Announces Manufacturing Loan Surge, Challenging Anti-Tariff Narrative appeared first on The Daily Signal.

Lame CNN Fact Check Says Harvard Isn't Liberal Because Ted Cruz Attended

CNN senior justice correspondent Evan Perez did his best Daniel Dale impression on Thursday’s episode of The Situation Room, where he attempted to fact-check President Trump’s assessment of Harvard, in his words, as a “cesspool of leftist thinking,” as false because conservatives, such as Ted Cruz, have attended the school. The context for Perez’s failed foray into fact-checking came as Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem upped the stakes in the battle between Harvard and the administration as he told co-host Wolf Blitzer, “This is an escalating series of threats from the Trump administration against the university, Wolf. And the latest one is from the Homeland Security Department, which is telling Harvard that they may lose their ability to host foreign students.”     After reading from a letter Noem sent to Harvard, Perez rolled on, “Now, this is all over their demands for Harvard to turn over disciplinary records of students, visa holders, who may have been participating in some of these protests over the last year over the Gaza War, Wolf. And obviously, the IRS is also now looking at revoking the tax exemption of Harvard University. That would be a huge hit for the university. The university has so far refused to comply with Trump's demands.” While concerns about anti-Semitism on campuses throughout the country are the reason for these battles, Perez insisted there is more to it than that, “Now, what they're asking for, Wolf, is for Harvard not only to comply with what they say are anti-Semitic, control of anti-Semitic issues on campus, but they want bigger changes. They want to oversee hiring and admissions standards. They want to make sure that conservative views are being represented on campus.” Part of the hiring concerns also stem from former university president Claudine Gay’s plagiarism scandal, but Perez didn’t mention that. Instead, he felt the need to declare, “Now, one of the things that I think is lost upon this is that there's plenty of conservatives that have come from Harvard: Tom Cotton, Neil Gorsuch, Ted Cruz, you know, over the years, Harvard has produced a lot of conservatives. So, the idea that Harvard is some cesspool of leftist thinking, I think is not quite what the, you know, certainly what the president believes is not quite what we know is true.” Blitzer was awed by the argument, “Excellent point. Thank you very much, Evan, for that.” It was not excellent. According to a survey, over 76 percent of Harvard faculty identify as “liberal” or “very liberal.” By contrast, just under three percent identify as “conservative” or “very conservative.” So, yes, the number of conservatives on staff exceeds zero, but that is a woeful standard. More importantly, in the departments that are most responsible for the spread of anti-Semitism, even most liberals would be shocked to see what gets pushed under the guise of education. Of course, Cotton, Gorsuch, and Cruz were students, not faculty, and only 13 percent of the Harvard class of 2024 reported being conservative compared to 59 percent who self-identified as progressive. Finally, nobody at CNN would ever suggest that Fox News is a neutral outlet because they employ Jessica Tarlov, but double standards for fact-checks are an industry standard. Here is a transcript for the April 17 show: CNN The Situation Room 4/17/2025 11:05 AM ET EVAN PEREZ: This is an escalating series of threats from the Trump administration against the university, Wolf. And the latest one is from the Homeland Security Department, which is telling Harvard that they may lose their ability to host foreign students. This is obviously a big source of funding and money for universities. Foreign students bring in a lot of money to these universities. I'll read you just a part of what Kristi Noem wrote to Harvard, saying “It is a privilege to have foreign students at—attend Harvard university, not a guarantee. Your continued work with this student and exchange visitor program certification is contingent upon meeting these requirements of the Homeland Security Department. Failure to comply with the student records request will be treated as a voluntary withdrawal. The withdrawal will not be subject to appeal.” Now, this is all over their demands for Harvard to turn over disciplinary records of students, visa holders, who may have been participating in some of these protests over the last year over the Gaza War, Wolf. And obviously, the IRS is also now looking at revoking the tax exemption of Harvard University. That would be a huge hit for the university. The university has so far refused to comply with Trump's demands.  Now, what they're asking for, Wolf, is for Harvard not only to comply with what they say are anti-Semitic, control of anti-Semitic issues on campus, but they want bigger changes. They want to oversee hiring and admissions standards. They want to make sure that conservative views are being represented on campus. Now, one of the things that I think is lost upon this is that there's plenty of conservatives that have come from Harvard: Tom Cotton, Neil Gorsuch, Ted Cruz, you know, over the years, Harvard has produced a lot of conservatives. So, the idea that Harvard is some cesspool of leftist thinking, I think is not quite what the, you know, certainly what the president believes is not quite what we know is true. WOLF BLITZER: Excellent point. Thank you very much, Evan, for that.

Actresses Olivia Munn and Olivia Wilde mock all-female trip to space: 'Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride?'

Actress Olivia Munn called out the recent all-female space crew for "gluttonous" spending after the celebrity-laden event was glorified as a landmark achievement for women. An all-female celebrity crew went into what is technically considered space this week and was publicized as a benefit for "humankind."The New Shepard program, launched by Blue Origin under Jeff Bezos, sent an all-women flight (NS-31) into what is generally considered the boundary between Earth and outer space. Crew members included singer Katy Perry, CBS host Gayle King, activist Amanda Nguyen, scientist Aisha Bowe, filmmaker Kerianne Flynn, and Bezos' fiancée, Lauren Sanchez, who was responsible for the crew's selection. The publicity stunt was even heralded by former astronaut Mae Jemison, who claimed the mission was about expanding the perspective of who is involved in space travel. The 68-year-old also made sure to correct a CBS host's usage of the term "mankind" and reinforced the use of "humankind," further bringing a feminist angle to the trip.'What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?'The alleged feat did not impress everyone, though. Actress Olivia Munn went off on the participants for rubbing such an expensive trip in the face of average Americans."What are they doing?" Munn asked while co-hosting "Today With Jenna & Friends."She continued: “I know this probably isn't the cool thing to say, but there are so many other things that are so important in the world right now.""I know this is probably obnoxious, but like, it's so much money to go to space, and there's a lot of people who can't even afford eggs," Munn went on, again asking, "What's the point?""Is it historic that you guys are going on a ride? I think it’s a bit gluttonous," she added. "What are they gonna do up there that has made it better for us down here?"While Blue Origin once auctioned off a seat for $28 million, current estimates have such flights ranging between $150,000 and $450,000 per seat, according to People. To make matters worse, there are currently a number of female astronauts — even some from Blue Origin trips — who are in space or have recently returned from a mission. At the same time, actress Olivia Wilde took to her Instagram page to mock the trip with a picture of singer Perry kissing the ground upon her return, despite the flight taking only 11 minutes."Billion dollars bought some good memes I guess," Wilde wrote. The self-driving rocket took the celebrities 62 miles above Earth to what is called the Karman line, known internationally as the official boundary of space. The crew experienced approximately four minutes of weightlessness.Sanchez said that the crew members were going to go up to space to "spread what they felt in different ways."Like Blaze News? Majority of Americans support deportation of all illegal immigrants

The Trump administration published a CNN polling analysis that found more and more Americans support the deportation of all illegal immigrants in the U.S. Critics of the administration are accusing President Donald Trump of violating due process rights and other legal protections in his pursuit of the mass deportations he promised during the 2024 presidential campaign. 'A majority of Americans, in fact when they're asked this blunt question which I believe gets at the underlying feelings, do in fact want to deport all immigrants who are here illegally.'What is clear from the polling analysis by CNN's Harry Enten is that a majority of Americans support deportations after a period of lax border policies that allowed millions of migrants to illegally enter the U.S. Four separate polls found deportation support ranging from 55% from the New York Times poll to 64% in a Marquette poll. "So what you're seeing essentially here is a very clear indication that a majority of Americans, in fact when they're asked this blunt question which I believe gets at the underlying feelings, do in fact want to deport all immigrants who are here illegally," Enten explained. "There's no arguing with these different numbers because they're all essentially the same across four different pollsters!"Enten went on to show that support for lesser levels of immigration had increased from 38% in 2016 to an astounding 56% in 2025. More recent polling shows that the support for Trump’s deportation policies continues to be popular, with about 53% supporting them after two months of seeing the policies in action. The segment first aired in January, after which Enten posted the video to his official social media account on the X platform. Here's the video of Enten's analysis: CNN: “Voters favor the government trying to deport ALL undocumented immigrants. 56%. The majority. The American people have come a long way on this issue.” pic.twitter.com/cNVMoBZHTc— TheBlaze (@theblaze) April 17, 2025 Like Blaze News?
