EXCLUSIVE: SNAP Judgment by Arkansas Bans Junk Food Purchases With Food Stamps

FIRST ON THE DAILY SIGNAL—The state of Arkansas received approval Tuesday from the U.S. Department of Agriculture to ban the purchase of both soft drinks and candy with food stamps. Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins has signed a waiver enabling Arkansas Gov. Sarah Sanders to ban the unhealthy foods from Arkansas’ Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), the formal name for food stamps. Arkansas joins Nebraska in getting a waiver from the Trump administration to combat America’s health crisis that way. “This approval sends a clear message: President Trump and his administration are tackling America’s chronic disease epidemic, and Arkansas stands with him in that fight,” Sanders said of the move.  “I am incredibly grateful for Secretary Rollins’ quick approval of our waiver. Arkansas leads the nation in getting unhealthy, ultra-processed foods off food stamps and helping our most vulnerable citizens lead healthier lives,” said the Republican governor.  About 23% of the cost of food stamps, which cost the federal government more than $100 billion per year, goes to cover soft drinks, candy, unhealthy snacks, and desserts. That translates to billions of dollars in taxpayer money that ends up paying for those foods.  That the U.S. suffers from an epidemic of chronic disease is no exaggeration. One-third of the residents of Arkansas have diabetes or prediabetes. Sanders’ decision is also backed by health data. One Stanford University study found that even simply banning sugary drinks from being covered under food stamps could save 141,000 children from obesity and 240,000 adults from Type 2 diabetes. Sanders’ decision is aimed at combating the trend of Americans who become hooked on unhealthy foods as children and subsequently struggle to combat the addictive nature of the chemicals in those foods.  In recent months, the Arkansas governor has positioned her state to lead in making America healthy again. She signed into law in February bipartisan legislation that enables every Arkansas child to get free breakfast before the school day even if they do not qualify for free or reduced meals under federal law. The new law directs medical marijuana tax revenue to fund school breakfasts and lunches in the future. Sanders has also been a strong supporter of providing food assistance for families with children who qualify for the National School Lunch Program during the summer months as well, through the Summer Electronic Benefit Transfer program. Sanders took office as governor of Arkansas in January 2023. She previously served as White House press secretary during the first Trump administration. Her father, Mike Huckabee, was also governor of Arkansas, from 1996 to 2007. CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Truckloads of Free Riot Masks Handed Out…Who’s Funding This?

Are we expected to believe a kind Samaritan just drove up with boxes of $50+ masks to hand out to the crowd? Free riot gear for all? This seems to be a clear case of someone funding this. Who is it? Some fingers are pointing at Walmart. Are they upset with President Trump calling them out for raising their prices and blaming it on the tariffs? #BREAKING We just saw people arrive in Downtown L.A. with truck loads of Bionic Face Shields that demonstrators quickly grabbed. It certainly seems like gear you’d wear if you’re preparing for conflict with police. Who is funding this? pic.twitter.com/2hZphafOsi — Elex Michaelson (@Elex_Michaelson) June 10, 2025 Say hi to the camera: “Bionic Shield” face masks dropped off. pic.twitter.com/rfwEAWVg9u — D (@Quietstorm04211) June 10, 2025 Fox News reports: LOS ANGELES – The mood in downtown Los Angeles shifted from tense to surreal Monday evening as FOX 11 cameras captured a masked group handing out riot shields and gas masks just steps from federal buildings—despite official claims that protests remained largely peaceful. Reporters on the ground described chaotic scenes: protesters doing burnouts, tagging sidewalks, and climbing light poles as riot gear was passed around in full view. No local police were visible at the time, even as National Guard troops stood guard outside nearby federal buildings. The masks being distributed were branded “bionic shield,” and the boxes appeared to be left behind in the open. The woman distributing them wasn’t masked herself—but her intent, or affiliation, remains unknown. Who handed out the protest gear — and why? What we know: Witnesses and journalists observed the scene unfold in real time, offering a clearer—but still incomplete—picture of how the gear was distributed and what role it played in the evening’s escalation. FOX 11 reporters witnessed masked individuals handing out tactical gear to protest attendees. No arrests were made at the scene, despite visible acts of vandalism and street interference. The incident occurred near federal buildings as National Guard troops were stationed nearby. Protesters also reported graffitiing, burning rubber, and preparing for clashes with police. What we don’t know: Despite the footage and mounting questions, officials have not provided clarity on key details surrounding the distribution or whether any investigation is underway. Whether the individuals distributing riot gear were part of an activist group, coordinated effort, or acting independently. Why local law enforcement did not intervene despite the obvious gear handout and escalating street activity. If the gear handout is being investigated by federal, state, or local authorities. What led to the federal response in Los Angeles The backstory: Tensions have escalated in Los Angeles following President Donald Trump’s decision to deploy more than 4,000 National Guard troops and 700 Marines to respond to ongoing immigration protests. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and Attorney General Rob Bonta have called the move unlawful, accusing Trump of manufacturing chaos to justify federal force. Wal-Mart is funding this. Christy Walton, billionaire heiress of Wal-Mart is funding “No Kings” protests all across America against Donald Trump. Question is — what’s their end game? https://t.co/uMGZcb26my pic.twitter.com/r3b8FUXg20 — James Li (@5149jamesli) June 10, 2025 Fox reporting on the riot gear: #BREAKING: Rioters are being given earplugs, gas masks, and water bottles to throw at police, per @BillMelugin_ FOX LA also reporting TRUCKLOADS of bionic shields, which cost $60+ each, are being delivered to rioters. There is NOTHING organic about this. WHO IS FUNDING IT? pic.twitter.com/kkjZIR9qES — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) June 10, 2025 And now a PSA: PSA announcement… LA Rioters may want to wear a jock strap. pic.twitter.com/RXdivUcaGr — Shoegal0128 (@shoegal0128) June 9, 2025

Anti-ICE Protests Are Erupting All Across The United States

Anti-ICE protests are spreading across the United States like wildfire. As the anti-ICE riots have wreaked havoc in Los Angeles for the last five days, many other blue cities are seeing unruly protesters take to the streets too. Demonstrations have popped up in New York City, Atlanta, Dallas, and other major cities. NBC News covered the story more in-depth: The protests that roiled Los Angeles over the weekend were set to spread Tuesday across the country, as activists planned demonstrations in New York, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta and elsewhere. Rallies protesting ICE raids and the government’s immigration policies have spread across California and beyond this week. A series of so-called No Kings demonstrations are planned nationwide for Saturday. Some 56 people were arrested in L.A. over the weekend as some 700 marines and more than 2,000 National Guard troops were deployed by President Donald Trump in response to protests that began on Friday, sparking an extraordinary showdown with California Gov. Gavin Newsom and L.A. Mayor Karen Bass, who strongly criticized the move as executive overreach. The state of California is suing the Trump administration over the National Guard deployment, calling the move “unlawful.” A temporary restraining order was added to the lawsuit by California Attorney General Rob Bonta over the decision to federalize members of the National Guard and the Marines on the streets of Los Angeles. “The President and Secretary (Pete) Hegseth have made clear — publicly and privately — that the Marines are not in Los Angeles to stand outside a federal building,” Bonta wrote in the filing. “They will work in active concert with law enforcement, in support of a law enforcement mission, and will physically interact with or detain civilians.” Scenes from New York: 5 ARRESTED AS PROTESTERS THROW DRESSER TO BLOCK ICE VAN IN NYC New York City looked like a deleted scene from a disaster movie today when nearly 100 protesters tried to block a federal van outside 26 Federal Plaza. A small group of protesters showed up outside the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Field Office in downtown Atlanta on Monday. The group called for an end to ICE raids and the release of California union leader David Huerta. Huerta, who was charged with conspiring to impede an officer during an anti-ICE protest in Los Angeles on Friday, was later released on bond.

JD Vance Hints At Deporting The Man Behind The Popular X Account “Derek Guy”

Imagine publicly admitting your breaking the law and expect zero consequences. On June 8th, a user on X who guys by Derek Guy wrote a long post explaining how he is an illegal immigrant. Guy who writes on men’s fashion has amassed over 1.3 million followers on X over the years. Take a look: I debated whether to share my story on here, but I guess I will. I think there’s an idea out there that millions of violent criminals are pouring across the border, carrying machetes and drugs, looking to harm Americans. Certainly, while some people fall into that category, the vast majority of undocumented immigrants don’t. My family escaped Vietnam after the Tet Offensive and went through an arduous journey that eventually landed them in the Canada. My father worked there for a time as a janitor; my mother, a secretary. When work fell through, my dad was offered to work with his sister in the United States, so he went, as our family needed money. He ended up staying in the US longer than he was supposed to — not knowing immigration laws — and asked my mom to come be with him. Of course, she went and carried me over the border while I was still a baby. I’m still unsure whether we technically broke an immigration law. The border between Canada and the United States was pretty porous (as it is today, for the most part). But either way, since I came here without legal documentation, I eventually fell into the category of being an undocumented immigrant. Yet, I’ve been in the United States since I was a baby. My identity and roots are very much based in this country, no different from anyone else. The lack of legal immigration has totally shaped my life. It has made every interaction with the law much scarier. It has shaped which opportunities I could or could not get. It has taken an emotional toll, as this legal issue hangs over your head like a black cloud. There are millions of people in my situation — people who were brought here as children, some babies, and were unable to raise their hand during this process and say “maybe we should hire a lawyer.” Parents may have crossed the border not knowing about the law, as the law can be pretty confusing and lawyers are expensive. Perhaps, in the end, they should have hired a lawyer; but sometimes life is messy. In the end, they crossed for the same reason many people rise every day: to support their families. I think it’s unreasonable to deport millions of people who have contributed positively to society. It’s simply not true that the majority of these people are violent criminals carrying drugs. Many own small businesses; many work as skilled laborers (including garment workers!). The vast majority are good, honest people. For those of us who grew up in the United States, sending us “back” to our “home” country would mean sending someone to a foreign land, as they grew up in the United States. Tearing families apart based on immigration status seems inhumane. About twenty years ago, I watched with some small measure of hope that the Dream ACT would pass and help a portion of undocumented immigrants. I saw people march angrily in the streets (something I supported). But I was dismayed to see nothing really come about. In fact, when Obama passed DACA, I was skeptical that it would be sensible to give your information to the federal government without a guaranteed path to citizenship. It seems that the Trump administration may use those lists to hunt down immigrants. I think the ICE sweeps are inhumane. I support and admire the protestors who are putting their bodies on the line for non-violent resistance. Ultimately, I think we need to solve this issue on a systemic level. It’s unreasonable to me to expect that the government will deport some 10-20 million people. Even deporting 1 million will cause an insane amount of chaos, not to mention an incredible amount of wasteful government spending. The militarization of law enforcement is over the top and only escalate the situation. I have seen people march on this issue, only for it to be dropped later and dissolve into quiet grumbles. In the end, nothing is done for immigrants. Time passes until decades later, we have another political crisis like the one we have today. This cycle seems unsustainable. I hope people sustain this energy to solve the immigration issue and put undocumented immigrants — most who are peaceful, skilled, and hard-working citizens — on a path to citizenship. As time continues to go by, many undocumented immigrants are seeing their lives wasted away. If you care about this issue, I hope you get involved on the long haul: volunteer for pro-immigrant groups, donate to mutual aid, and perhaps pursue career paths that help people in this situation. I was moved to read someone on here say that, when they found their employee was undocumented, they helped them get a green card. The path was difficult, as our immigration system is broken (it took them 11 years). But I can tell you that this is like pulling someone drowning in raging waters. Ultimately, I hope me sharing this story helps push back against the idea that all undocumented immigrants are MS-13 members. I know many people in my position and they are all like your neighbors.Take a look: I told you it was long! In response to his post, hundrends of users on X called for Guy to be deported. The post got so viral in garnered a response from Vice President JD Vance. A user on X who goes by Daniel quoted a post that explain Guy’s situation with the caption, “JD Vance I know you’re reading this and you have the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.” In response JD sent out a gif of a man shaking yes. Look here: pic.twitter.com/V243VfvAtD — JD Vance (@JDVance) June 9, 2025 The Independent covered the story more closely: Vice President JD Vance appeared to suggest he would deport a man who runs a popular X account focused on menswear after the user shared his experience living as an undocumented immigrant in the United States. On the social media platform, the user, known as “derek guy,” posted a long message encouraging people not to view undocumented immigrants as “MS-13 members”, as the Trump administration has characterized many, but instead as “neighbors” such as himself. As a result, people on X tagged Vance, telling the vice president he has the “opportunity to do the funniest thing ever” – an indirect way of suggesting he deport the X user. Vance responded with a meme of actor Jack Nicholson shaking his head “yes” menacingly. “Derek guy,” also known as “menswear guy,” uses his X account to share his thoughts on current trends and comment on people’s clothing. He has previously critiqued Vance for his clothing choices, including pants that are “too slim,” jackets that “don’t hug him very well,” and a tie that was “a distraction.”

Amazon To Invest $20 Billion In This State To Expand AI Infrastructure

Amazon intends to invest at least $20 billion in Pennsylvania to expand its AI infrastructure. The investment is expected to create “1,250 new high-skilled jobs.” “This incredible $20 billion investment by @Amazon, announced just a few miles from where I grew up, is the largest economic development project in Pennsylvania history. It will fund the construction of data center campuses in Luzerne and Bucks Counties, creating thousands of jobs in PA. This is a huge win for the Keystone State!” Sen. Dave McCormick (R-PA) said. Salem Township and Falls Township are the first communities identified as sites for these future innovation campuses. Multiple additional Pennsylvania communities are under consideration. This landmark investment is expected to create at least 1,250 new high-skilled jobs while supporting thousands of other jobs in the Amazon Web Services (AWS) data center supply chain. The new high-skilled jobs will range from data center engineers and network specialists, to engineering operations managers, security specialists, and many more technical roles. In addition to these direct positions, this planned investment is expected to support thousands of local construction jobs and positions in the data center supply chain, as well as other jobs in the local community. Today’s announcement in Pennsylvania, alongside previous commitments made across the U.S. in recent months, further strengthens our investment in generative AI and high-tech cloud infrastructure. These efforts reflect Amazon’s ongoing commitment to supporting U.S. leadership in AI and helping customers across all industries harness AI-driven solutions to transform operations and accelerate innovation. Millions of customers, including the fastest-growing startups, largest enterprises, and leading government agencies, rely on AWS to advance their AI journey, lower costs, increase agility, and drive innovation. Our strategic investments in advanced computing infrastructure and specialized AI hardware are building the technology backbone for the next generation of generative and agentic AI, and helping to secure America’s position at the forefront of global innovation. Amazon plans to invest $20 billion in Pennsylvania to expand cloud computing infrastructure & advance #AI innovation pic.twitter.com/gR0rPy31Kh — Amazon Web Services (@awscloud) June 9, 2025 WATCH: From the Associated Press: One data center is being built next to northeastern Pennsylvania’s Susquehanna nuclear power plant, where it intends to get its power. The other will be in Fairless Hills at a logistics campus, the Keystone Trade Center, on what was once a U.S. Steel mill. Amazon said that data center will get its power through the electricity grid. At a news conference in Berwick in the shadow of the power plant, Gov. Josh Shapiro called it the largest private sector investment in Pennsylvania’s history. Monday’s announcement, he said, is “just the beginning” because his administration is working with Amazon on additional data center projects in Pennsylvania. While critics say data centers employ relatively few people and pack little long-term job-creation punch, their advocates say they require a huge number of construction jobs to build, spend enormous sums at area vendors and generate strong tax revenues for local governments. Shapiro touted the work that will keep construction trades members busy building Amazon’s data centers, the tech jobs that will be waiting for graduates of area colleges and the millions of dollars in property taxes that will flow to schools and local governments. “For too long, we’ve watched as talents across Pennsylvania got hollowed out and left behind,” Shapiro said at the news conference. “No more. Now is our time to rebuild those communities and invest in them. This investment in Pennsylvania starts reversing that trend.” WATCH:
