Beyond the countless number of awards and nominations for the music we all love, the “Springsteen” singer has his hands in all sorts of endeavors, ranging from ownership of his Nashville bar, Chiefs, part-ownership of the Charlotte Hornets, his own line of bourbon, Whiskey JYPSI, and continued humanitarian efforts in the wake of Hurricane Helene. Despite so many accomplishments both on and off the stage, there’s one thing that Church has yet to deliver to fans in any capacity: a full concert experience recorded, mixed and directed in full movie quality. Discussing why he chose the two nights at The Pinnacle for the exclusive IMAX event, Church said that it was one of the most memorable sets of shows he’s ever played in his career. “I’ve played a lot of shows. I’ve never had two nights like these where the room felt literally transported. We went to a different plane, musically, artistically, emotionally. It was unforgettable and I’ll remember it the rest of my days.” Directing the experience is none other than long-time collaborator, Reid Long, who directed past Church music videos such as “Some Of It,” “Mr. Misunderstood,” “Record Year” and “Round Here Buzz” along with other videos from Miranda Lambert, Little Big Town, Ashley McBryde and more. Known for his history of music videos, this will mark the first time Long has directed a full-length concert feature. If there’s one thing that cannot be denied about Eric Church, it’s his live shows. Undeniably one of the greatest performers of our generation, he’s set himself head and shoulders above his contemporaries time and time again throughout the years through his raw passion, high energy and masterful storytelling at each and every show. The dream team. Today, Lukas Nelson and Sierra Ferrell released an absolutely perfect rendition of Neil Young’s “Unknown Legend,” which was written by young and released as part of his 1992 album, Harvest Moon. He actually wrote it in the 70’s, closer to the release of his 1978 album Comes a Time, but along with bluegrass band The Travelin’ McCoury’s, Lukas and Sierra completely remade this song and honestly, I love it way more than the original. I don’t know if that’s a “hot take” or if many of you will agree with that statement, but Lukas and Sierra are supremely talented as solo musicians, so anytime they get together for a duet, I am SO here for it. They previously released a bluegrass version of Adele’s mega hit “Someone Like You,” which also featured backing from The Travelin’ McCoury’s, and it was absolutely incredible. They have a cool duo thing going on, so I’m going to need them to quit playing around and just put out a full bluegrass album together… we deserve it. Sierra was also recently featured on Lukas’ debut solo country album American Romance, the first project since Lukas parted ways with his longtime band Promise of the Real. They teamed up for “Friend in the End,” a beautiful tribute to their obvious friendship and like everything they put out, it’s great. But there’s just something special about this song and the story within it that I just love, and it’s easily the best thing that’s been released on this new music Friday.
