The entertainment awards shows used to be wildly popular on TV before the audience shattered into a thousand pieces. When a celebrity decided to make a pompous political statement, it was memorable—like in 1973, when Marlon Brando sent an Indian activist named Sacheen Littlefeather to refuse his Oscar for “The Godfather” in protest. Brando wanted to highlight how Indians were badly portrayed by Hollywood—as he made an Italian mobster movie, which surely didn’t lead to any ethnic stereotyping whatsoever. For the last 10 years, awards shows have predictably erupted in melodramatic celebrity proclamations against the horrors of Donald Trump. This year, the leftists were already upset that there wasn’t enough celebrity shrieking at the Golden Globes. But they were delighted by the Grammy Awards. That Democrat rag The Washington Post tweeted this: “Politics are often treated like radioactive material on Grammy night, writes Post pop music critic Chris Richards. But on Sunday, something changed. The world outside had finally become too loud to ignore.” The headline underneath: “The biggest winner at the Grammys was free speech.” One of the things that Republicans hate about these shows is that the speech isn’t “free.” It’s a load of left-wing jeremiads without any dissent. That’s exactly why the Left loves it. Their speech represented “the world outside.” Wrong—it’s the celebrity bubble inside. Chris Richards should have been published on the editorial page. He claimed Renee Good and Alex Pretti were merely “witnesses in the streets,” not raging activists willing to kick out taillights and run over Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents. Richards oozed: “If those assembled needed a hero, [rapper] Bad Bunny was it,” speaking with “blunt force intensity.” His signature line: “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say: ICE out. We’re not savages, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans. And we are Americans.” Celebrities often speak in bumper-sticker phrases. This declaration is Fake News. No one is saying every immigrant is an “animal” or a “savage.” President Donald Trump has said that about murderous MS-13 gangsters, but then the media pretended he wasn’t at all specific. Obviously, illegal immigrants are not “Americans,” even if they stay for years. That word implies citizenship. But Richards was Bad Bunny’s bamboozled booster. These words were fabulous: “Deliberate, steadying, energizing, necessary. Finally. Moments as potent as this one should be the rule at the Grammys, not the exception.” There you have it. This show is not about the music. It’s about the activism. Every acceptance speech should be like a negative campaign advertisement. Then Richards fought with Laura Ingraham in absentia: “To the ‘shut up and sing’ crowd, I’ll ask one last time: Sing about what? Music is humanity transposed into sound. And as the Trump administration has reminded us so relentlessly in recent weeks, our humanity is increasingly under threat.” Once again, the Left cornered the market on humanity. Richards also loved the slogans of whisper-singing fashion nightmare Billie Eilish. She “spoke truth to power with the composure you’d expect from a 10-time Grammy winner.” What was her oration? “No one is illegal on stolen land,” she said, like every radical at a wokester hootenanny. Never deport anyone, for any reason. She added, “F— ICE.” So profound. Conservatives quickly underlined that 24-year-old Eilish owns a $3 million mansion on “stolen land” in Los Angeles, but in the celebrity code, one must never have to make sense. You are hailed for all in the verbal gestures (including the profanity). The celebrity audience vapidly applauds the sentiment, and who needs logic when your heart is “in the right place”? Ryan Routh, who was convicted of attempting to assassinate President Trump at his Florida golf course, was sentenced to life in prison. U.S. Judge Aileen Cannon issued a life sentence plus an additional seven years based on the second count of the indictment. Routh was convicted last September on five federal criminal counts. The counts included “attempting to assassinate a major presidential candidate, assaulting a federal officer and multiple firearms offenses,” Fox News noted. Routh’s sentencing in Fort Pierce, Fla., had initially been scheduled for December, but U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon agreed to move the date back after Routh decided to use an attorney during the sentencing phase instead of representing himself as he did for most of the trial. Prosecutors said Routh spent weeks plotting to kill Trump before aiming a rifle through shrubbery as the then-Republican presidential candidate played golf on Sept. 15, 2024, at his West Palm Beach, Fla., country club. At Routh’s trial, a Secret Service agent helping protect Trump on the golf course testified that he spotted Routh before Trump came into view. Routh aimed his rifle at the agent, who opened fire, causing Routh to drop his weapon and run away without firing a shot. Before handing down the sentence, Cannon commended the actions of law enforcement and witnesses bringing Routh to justice. “Despite all the evil we see, there is a sliver of hope, a sliver of light,” she said, according to ABC News. Good! pic.twitter.com/7IXJq2xeSx — RedWave Press (@RedWave_Press) February 4, 2026 ABC News has more: Routh allegedly hid in the bushes of the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach and pointed a military-grade SKS rifle towards Trump and a Secret Service agent. “Routh’s crimes of conviction reflect careful plotting, extensive premeditation, and a cowardly disregard for human life,” prosecutors wrote. “Routh’s motive for his crimes was unconscionable – preventing the American people from electing the candidate of their choice for President. Routh’s gloss on his crimes has always been that anything he may have done was justified by events in Ukraine or American domestic politics.” Routh represented himself at trial and attempted to argue that he never intended to harm Trump or the Secret Service agent, framing his actions as a form of protest against the president’s policies. After he was found guilty, he attempted to harm himself in front of the jury by stabbing himself with a pen. Since his conviction, Routh was appointed an attorney and has requested a 27-year sentence that would allow him to “experience freedom again as opposed to dying in prison.” His lawyer argued that Routh could not have a fair trial because he represented himself, even though Routh made that decision after repeated warnings about the potential consequences. “Defendant recognizes that he was found guilty by the jury but asserts that the jury was misled by his inability to effectively confront witnesses, use exhibits, or affirmatively introduce impeachment evidence designed to prove his lack of intent to cause injury to anyone,” his defense lawyer wrote. Routh had attempted to bolster his push for a lighter sentence by submitting multiple letters from friends attesting to his character and undergoing a psychiatric examination, which suggested he suffers from narcissistic personality disorder and bipolar II disorder.

More details have emerged regarding the disappearance of NBC News star Savannah Guthrie’s mother. As the WLT report covered earlier in the week, Nancy Guthrie, 84, went missing from her home in Arizona on Saturday night, and so far, authorities have no leads on where she might be. During a press conference on Monday morning, Arizona authorities reported that a possible crime may have taken place at Nancy Guthrie’s home the night she went missing. Authorities on Tuesday further revealed that Guthrie’s pacemaker stopped syncing with her iWatch on Sunday, a day after she first disappeared. He ensured she made it safely inside the house before leaving, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos told the New York Times. Nancy disappeared sometime between the dropoff at 9:45 p.m. and Sunday morning, when friends at church became concerned that she wasn’t there.
