Pro-life senators are condemning Senate Democrats for supporting Obamacare enhanced subsidies for insurance plans that cover abortions and gender transitions. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., has made extending government health care spending that was intended to be a temporary COVID-era benefit a central part of his fight in shutting down the government. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., has a theory on why that is. One of the Democratic Party’s fundamental reasons, he said, is that “they want to kill babies in the womb.” Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., told The Daily Signal, “It’s disgusting that Democrats are shutting down the government to continue to hide the failures of Obamacare with massive taxpayer-funded subsidy checks to insurance companies that can fund abortions and [transgender] surgeries.” “Republicans cannot allow American taxpayers to foot the bill for Democrats’ liberal wish list that lets this happen,” the Florida senator said.  Autumn Christensen, the senior policy adviser at Susan B. Anthony Pro-Life America, told The Daily Signal that “Republicans have consistently stood against taxpayer-funded abortion in Obamacare, and we are confident they will continue to do so. Extending subsidies without Hyde is a clear vote to expand abortion on demand, and every such vote will be scored by SBA Pro-Life America.” The Hyde Amendment, which dates back to the mid-1970s, prohibits federal money from going to pay for abortions—except in the cases of rape, incest, or to save the life of the mother. Abortion has remained subsidized by Obamacare, formally known as the Affordable Care Act, through a legislative workaround, however. Measures that would have increased protections of federal dollars from going to abortion failed to be included in Obamacare when it was passed in 2010. A bipartisan proposal known as the Stupak-Pitts Amendment would have extended Hyde Amendment-like protections to Obamacare subsidized insurance plans. That proposal effectively banned federal taxpayer dollars from directly going to fund abortions or to insurance plans that cover abortions (with the exceptions of cases of rape, incest, or the life of the mother is threatened). It passed the House with dozens of votes from Democrat members, but was not supported in the Senate. “Americans’ tax dollars should never be used to fund the killing of unborn children or dangerous gender transition procedures. We need to end the Schumer Shutdown so we can make health care more affordable, not subsidize Democrats’ radical anti-family, anti-patient agenda,” Sen. Bill Cassidy, R-La., who chairs the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions, told The Daily Signal. When asked whether Congress could pass legislation like the Stupak-Pitts Amendment today, Johnson replied in the negative. What’s more, several organizations have sounded the alarm about several states, such as Colorado, that permit federally funded insurance programs to pay for transgender procedures.  “[A]ny Republican member of Congress who’s ever professed pro-life views, I don’t see how they could possibly vote for an extension of these, again, temporary COVID pandemic, enhanced subsidies that would perpetuate a massive fraud and fund abortions and transgender surgeries, probably for minors,” Johnson added. The Wisconsin senator also cited an Oct. 5 Washington Post editorial that opined, “The real problem is that the Affordable Care Act was never actually affordable.” He outlined how the government program was forcing “a very small percentage of the American population to bear the full cost of covering everybody with preexisting conditions.” Johnson explained that there were likely massive amounts of fraud in the temporary COVID-19 pandemic-era enhanced subsidies, noting that they created plans without premiums. “Tens of billions of dollars flowing into insurance companies taking off commissions to unscrupulous brokers and agents who are signing up people without their knowledge because they don’t have to pay any premiums for plans that they don’t use,” the Wisconsin senator explained. Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, also weighed in on the issue, telling The Daily Signal: “It’s important for Americans to realize that Senate Democrats are holding their government hostage, not just for health care for illegals, but for a host of other things voters soundly rejected last year, like federal dollars subsidizing abortion and transgender surgeries.” He added: They are also trying to continue a massive amount of fraud being perpetrated against American taxpayers through COVID-era Obamacare subsidies. We cannot give them one inch. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has lodged a detainer against an illegal alien who killed a college student in a hit-and-run accident and received a light prison sentence, Blaze News has exclusively learned.'This monster should never have been in our country and has had a final order of removal since 2018.'On April 2, Rosali I. Fernandez-Cruz, a 24-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, was driving his pickup truck when he struck and killed Nathaniel Baker, a 21-year-old University of South Carolina student, who was riding his motorcycle in Richland County, South Carolina.Fernandez-Cruz, who illegally entered the U.S. through the Mexico border in December 2016, fled the scene of the crash without attempting to administer aid. Three of the four charges against Fernandez-Cruz were ultimately dropped, including failure to render aid, failure to yield right of way, and driving without a license. He pleaded guilty to hit-and-run resulting in death and was sentenced to just one year in prison. A flyer allegedly created by far-left radicals calls for activists to use laser pointers against law enforcement helicopters in Portland, Oregon. Portland has been the site of violent rioting against officers of Immigration and Customs Enforcement by Antifa protesters. The situation has deteriorated to the point where the Trump administration has ordered National Guard troops to protect federal facilities and the White House has threatened to cancel federal funding to the city. 'All you need is a laser. Leave home — they can see where the laser is coming from.'On Thursday, a flyer surfaced on social media that seems to call upon activists to commit a federal crime. "Every night for weeks we are forced to listen to the threatening rhythm of helicopter blades as the federal regime spies on us. The only limit power knows is our refusal to submit. This Saturday, October 11th, at 9 pm you are invited to fight back. All you need is a laser. Leave home — they can see where the laser is coming from," the flyer reads. "Go to a park, a field, or some other public place, and once the clock strikes 9 unleash your beam at the cop copter. Mask up," the flyer continues. "Coordinate with friends to throw a laser party!"The flyer can be traced back to a post on a website titled Rose City Counter-Info that publishes "anarchist and anti-authoritarian" material. The website also publishes material promoting Antifa.Leftist protesters have previously used laser pointers to attack federal agents in Portland, most notably in 2020. YouTube announced in an official blog post on Thursday that it will give second chances to some users who had their channels terminated.In late September, banned creators got the impression that they would be reinstated on YouTube after Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) wrote on X that Google had committed to allowing "ALL creators previously kicked off YouTube due to political speech violations to return to the platform."When controversial commentators Alex Jones and Nick Fuentes tested out the claim by starting new YouTube channels, they were promptly removed from the platform.'We may take action to protect the community.'YouTube quickly responded by saying it had not yet rolled out the new pilot program, while a spokesman for Rep. Jordan told Blaze News that the new program would only "extend at a minimum to any users banned for policies no longer in effect," such as policies pertaining to alleged misinformation about COVID-19 and elections.In YouTube's new blog post, the company wrote that it has heard from creators "loud and clear" that they want more options to return to the platform."So we’re happy to share that we’re introducing a pilot program to offer some qualified creators an opportunity to rebuild their presence on YouTube," the blog stated. "Starting today, some previously terminated creators will have the opportunity to request a new YouTube channel."The platform noted that "not every type of channel termination" will be eligible, however, starting with only those who have been banned from the platform for at least one year. An attached video added that conduct that loses the platform ad revenue can also be considered a violation. "YouTube and advertisers don't want to be associated with that level of craziness," the video host said sternly. "And when advertisers pull their spend, everybody loses." "Creators who deleted their YouTube channel/Google account will not be able to see the ‘request a new channel’ option at this time," YouTube wrote.Creators will know they are eligible for the second chances program simply by seeing an option to request a new channel when they log into the YouTube Studio on their computer through their previously deleted channel.Like Blaze News? "There's an effort underway to paint me as someone who is doing the things that I've researched, but that couldn't be further from the truth."Radicals circle the wagonsLeftist students and faculty members at Rutgers rushed to Bray's defense.The Rutgers chapters of the American Association of University Professors and the American Federation of Teachers joined the Rutgers Adjunct Faculty Union in condemning the attempt by the TPUSA's student chapter to get Bray canned over his apparent support for Antifa terrorists. The unions further smeared the student chapter, suggesting it was responsible for the threats Bray has supposedly received."The threats against ... Bray are a predictable consequence of Turning Point’s campaign to distort Dr. Bray’s views," said the unions' joint statement. "By doing so, we will not only be upholding our commitment to educational excellence but also ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for every individual within our community.""The petition to disband our Turning Point chapter is blatantly defamatory," Ava Kwan, outreach coordinator for the Turning Point USA chapter at Rutgers, said in a statement."The accusations of 'inciting violence' and 'making threats' are complete lies," continued Kwan. "The same people claiming we're suppressing their free speech are actively trying to silence us for speaking the truth. It's not just ironic, it's hypocritical and absurd. Any opinion that challenges their worldview is immediately branded as 'hate speech,' a meaningless term weaponized to control dissent and protect their false narrative."Blaze News has reached out to TPUSA for comment.When asked whether Rutgers is considering disbanding the TPUSA student chapter, the university said in a statement to Blaze News, "The university does not comment on specific personnel or student conduct matters."The university noted further that it is "committed to providing a secure environment — to learn, teach, work, and research, where all members of our community can share their opinions without fear of intimidation or harassment.
