Gene Simmons plays two Kiss songs written by Ace Frehley for the first time

During his solo show at the L'Auberge Casino Resort in Lake Charles, LA, on February 20, Gene Simmons performed for the first time the Kiss songs  "Strange Ways" (From 'Hotter Than Hell') and "Rocket Ride" (Single - Co-written by Sean Delaney), written and sung by Ace Frehley. Also part of the setlist were "Cold Gin" and "Parasite", which, although originally sung by Simmons, were written by the guitarist. Simmons, who criticized Ace Frehley and Peter Criss over the past decades, provoked outrage among fans last year after suggesting that bad decisions had led to his death, although he sadly passed away a few days after a fall at his studio. Watch Gene Simmons performing "Strange Ways" and "Rocket Ride" for the first time https://youtu.be/1B5DUxdAI6U https://youtu.be/7iGOllEyqsk Setlist "Deuce" "Shout It Out Loud" "War Machine" "I" (!!!) "Domino" "Parasite" "Strange Ways" (live debut) "Charisma" "Rocket Ride" (live debut) "Cold Gin" "I Love It Loud" "Calling Dr. Love" "Let Me Go, Rock 'n' Roll" "Rock and Roll All Nite" Gene will be part of the Rock Legends Cruise XIII from Fort Lauderdale to Ocho Rios, Jamaica, which takes place from February 23 to February 27. He also has a concert scheduled for February 28 at Bayside Stadium at SeaWorld in Orlando, Florida. He is currently the only original member of Kiss who is touring, as Paul Stanley has not performed live since the band came to an end in 2023, and Peter Criss has not toured in decades, although he recently released a new solo studio album. One of the most influential Rock bands of all time, Kiss was formed in New York City in 1973 by Gene Simmons, Ace Frehley, Peter Criss and Paul Stanley. During their 50 year career, only Simmons and Stanley remained in the band the entire time, and they have sold an estimated 100 million records worldwide. The post Gene Simmons plays two Kiss songs written by Ace Frehley for the first time appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Hear Foreigner’s Lou Gramm new song “Long Hard Look”

Besides singing with Foreigner on selected dates this year, the band’s original singer Lou Gramm is also promoting new solo music. He just released “Long Hard Look”, the second single of his upcoming album called “Released”, which will be out next March 27. The record features 10 original tracks which were co-written by Lou and his former Black Sheep bandmate Bruce Turgon. “My new album ‘Released’ is a collection of unreleased songs that were recorded in the 1980s during the production of my three previous solo albums. These are powerful, heartfelt songs with a great vintage sound taken right from my old multitrack tapes. This new album was a long time coming and it’s a real nostalgia trip.” “When I pulled these songs out of the vault, I knew I had to finish them for my fans around the world, so they can experience what I did when I first heard them after all these years. It means a lot to me to finally see this album released, to be taken back in time when I hear this music again, to remember working with all these great musicians, and to feel that my catalog is now complete,” Lou Gramm said. Lou will perform at the 70s Rock & Romance festival cruise, which will happen from March 21 to 28. Lou Gramm “Released” tracklist “Young Love” “Lightning Strikes” “Walk The Walk” “Long Gone” “Heart And Soul” “Long Hard Look” “True Blue Love (Unplugged)” “Deeper Side of Love” “Time Heals The Pain” “Word Gets Around” Louis Andrew Grammatico was born in Rochester, New York, in 1950 and began his career in 1974. Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith criticizes the use of A.I. in music

Artificial Intelligence is changing almost everything in the world, and the music business has already changed significantly. There are already artists who do not really exist ranking on the charts with songs completely made by AI. Iron Maiden guitarist Adrian Smith was asked about the matter and criticized the use of computers to create things without much effort. He told UnDinamo – La Última Radio de Rock that “people seem to be craving more reward with effort.” Iron Maiden's Adrian Smith criticizes the use of A.I. in music "No, I don't like it. I don't like it. I mean, people seem to be craving more reward with less effort. I think part of the enjoyment and the fun is the journey of getting there and the process and the struggle. It makes you feel good when you get it. If someone just gives you something, it's all finished and done. And I think from our point of view, the albums that Richie (Kotzen) and I do are pretty organic. There's no loads of overdubs. It's just two guitars (and our) voices. A few overdubs, of course, (but we) try to keep it organic, keep the human feel." "A.I., it just makes me shiver. And when you hear about bands canceling gigs, 'cause they've lost their laptop computer — I mean, come on. The record industry is dying on it ass because of music streaming. People aren't getting paid or can't earn any money out music. Sure, you can make an album on your computer and anyone can make an album, so it's kind of cheapened everything. There's no struggle anymore. You used to have to save the money and work to buy one hour in the studio. It was so expensive." He continued: "Yeah, it's difficult for young bands now, difficult for young bands. I'm glad I was born when I was, because I got the best of both worlds. With Maiden, we can make the whole thing solvent by doing shows, but records are — it's tragic. People expect it for nothing; they want music for nothing. They don't wanna pay for it." "No way. I don't know. I don't even wanna think about it. I mean, A.I. What was it someone was telling me the other day? Somebody, as a birthday present or as a present to his friends, he had a song written by A.I. for each one of them, using their voice. And it's just mind-boggling. It's like the beginning of the end. I mean, social media's bad enough. But this is just another level." "I can't see it having any effect. I mean, even digital recording and Pro Tools now has enabled anyone to make up something that — you can present something that sounds respectable, but it's all done by computers. At least I grew up old school where you had to actually play in the studio; you couldn't tune it up afterwards. So that makes you more of a craftsman. Digital recording we use because it's convenient and it saves time and it saves money," Adrian Smith said (Transcribed by Blabbermouth). Smith/Kotzen already released two albums, the self-titled debut in 2021 and the second one "Black Light/White Noise" in 2025. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DMS53p6MJ9w&list=RDDMS53p6MJ9w&start_radio=1&pp=ygUMU01JVEggS09UWkVOoAcBThe post Iron Maiden’s Adrian Smith criticizes the use of A.I. in music appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

Geddy Lee’s opinion on Nirvana

Geddy Lee’s opinion on Nirvana

Geddy Lee was extremely influenced by Hard Rock and Progressive Rock when he was young and those inspirations became a crucial part of Rush’s sound. However, as music evolved over the decades, he also followed other Rock and Roll subgenres that emerged. In the late 80s and early 90s, Grunge shook the musical scene and showed where mainstream Rock was headed. Throughout his career, Geddy has spoken about many bands from that era, sharing his opinion on them, including Nirvana. What is Geddy Lee's opinion on Nirvana Since the early days of their career, Geddy Lee has been a big fan of Nirvana like all his bandmates in Rush. "With the advent of grunge from the American Pacific Northwest, attitudes towards rock and recording were reverting to a heavier, less corporate sound. We loved what we heard in the music of bands like Nirvana, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden. To be honest, I wasn’t as well-versed a grunge freak as Neil was. But I dug the energy and the live-off-the-floor vibe. Soundgarden’s power and song structure were particularly impressive." "While to my ear Nirvana played with a freewheeling, reckless abandon, they weren’t so much 'heavy' as a grungy yet melodic pop sensation. But most important, a ton of what came out of the Seattle scene was fresh, exciting and inspiring—a new take on the American sound. We were keen to get a new game on too, harnessing the refreshed rock vibes to a skill set we had honed over the twenty-plus years since the 'new guy' joined us," Geddy Lee said in his autobiography "My Effin' Life", recalling how Rock and Roll evolved in the early 90s. He had already praised the band in 1992 while talking about several new groups he thought were good and whose future he was curious to see. "I think it's a pretty exciting time. There are a few bands that are getting dangerously close to being over-hyped. But there's some exciting music coming out of the United States right now. Nirvana and Faith No More, for example, and Metallica in the metal world." He continued: "And the Chili Peppers, even though they've been around for a while, have a really bold sound that's catching on. It's like another new wave, and it's nice to see it coming from America for a change rather than England. It'll be interesting to see how some of these bands develop, if they stay together. I hope they do, because that's when the freshest music comes in," he told Bass Player magazine in 1992. When Grunge was taking over the music scene, Rush were releasing some really interesting albums like “Roll the Bones” (1991) and “Counterparts” (1993). They were quite different from most of what they had done before. So that revolution really gave them a few new musical ideas to use in their own style. Geddy Lee said that Krist Novoselic bass lines were important for Nirvana's sound Over the years Geddy became a close friend of the remaining Nirvana members Dave Grohl and Krist Novoselic. He even interviewed the bass player in his TV show "Are Bass Players Human Too?" (2023). When presenting him, he said he believed Krit's bass lines were really important for Nirvana's music. "Having played in a power trio myself, I know that the role of each instrument is critical. The driving bass lines of Krist Novoselic held it all together. The impact of their sound was massive. Like millions of Nirvana fans around the world, I was sad when it came to a tragic end in 1994". The Seattle Grunge scene really impressed Geddy Lee. He was happy when Krist stopped by to say hello during one of his visits to town. "Seattle was a town populated entirely, it felt, by young grunge artists, a town of musicians and musicians’ musicians! Moreover, since I came from a more competitive and disconnected music scene, I was impressed by how these people seemed always ready to play on one another’s projects and be supportive of new things the others were doing. (The terrific Temple of the Dog album is just one example of that.)" He continued: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z05qiPnLpMM&pp=ygUHbmlydmFuYQ%3D%3D "I have to say I felt a lot of respect when Kim Thayil and Krist Novoselic dropped in to say hi. I was forty-seven, almost twice their age—an elder statesman of rock! It was a yardstick of how long I’d been in the game that here was a younger generation that had grown up with our music and wanted to hang," Geddy Lee said in his autobiography "My Effin' Life". Geddy’s friendship with former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl also grew over the years. He wrote in his book that he has always admired artists like Dave, who, according to him, can “chat off the cuff” naturally with the audience without relying on Rock and Roll clichés. He and the late Taylor Hawkins inducted Rush into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2013. After Hawkins’ death, Lifeson and Geddy  took part in the tribute shows that took place in London and Los Angeles. It was there that they had the opportunity to meet Paul McCartney for the first time. It was a conversation with the Beatle that inspired them to reunite and tour as Rush again. The post Geddy Lee’s opinion on Nirvana appeared first on Rock and Roll Garage.

11 'unspoken rules' cats expect their humans to know and follow

Whether you're a cat person, a dog person, or neither, you likely know that cats have a reputation for being…mmm, particular. Cats like what they like and don't like what they don't like, and they expect you to not only know this but to cater to their likes and dislikes without ever having to voice them aloud. That's right, there are unspoken rules that cat owners are expected to know and follow. If you own a cat or are around a cat, it's vital that you understand these rules. It's like a feline code of law you're just supposed to intuit or learn by trial and error, but thankfully, our friends at Feline Fanatics have laid them out clearly for us all. Here are 11 rules that will make your life with your kitty much more pleasant for everyone if you follow them: - YouTube www.youtube.com 1. Don't stare at them for too longWhile gazing into the eyes of your cat might feel like you're bonding with them, you're not when the stare goes on too long. Cats are highly visual, and in cat language, holding eye contact is a challenge—an aggressive indicator that you're down for a fight. "Among cats, even friends don't hold eye contact," the video says. "They glance, blink, and move on." So give your cat a look, but don't hold their gaze. 2. Let them come to youIf you've ever walked up to a cat and tried to pick them up, unless it's a rare kitty who actually enjoys being manhandled, most cats will not respond positively. They may immediately wriggle out of your grasp and some might scratch or bite. Others may begrudgingly accept their fate, but in general, they prefer to come to you. "Autonomy is their love language," as the video states. Yep, they want affection, but on their terms. "This blanket smells like me now."Photo credit: Canva3. Respect their 'scent map'A cat's scent map is their way of marking territory with their scent by rubbing their cheeks and bodies on items (as well as marking with urine or feces, but hopefully not in your house). This scent marking creates a sense of familiarity and comfort for a cat, and if you mess with that too much, it can make them feel disoriented. Of course, we have to wash things like blankets, pillows, beds, etc., but Feline Fanatics suggests washing things gradually and not all at once so as not to disturb their scent map. 4. Respond to their meowsCats mostly meow for humans. They sometimes meow at one another, but rarely and mostly as kittens. When they meow, they're communicating with us in some way, even if we don't understand what they're "saying." Acknowledging their meows tells your cat that you heard them, even if you didn't understand them. "Hey, I'm talking to you."Photo credit: Canva5. Give them an escape routeIn the wild, being trapped means danger, and cats are sensitive to that feeling. They like to know they can get away, so always make sure they have an exit strategy. That might mean leaving a door cracked open or avoiding crowding them. Ironically, if a cat knows they can leave, they're more likely to stay, so always give them a way to escape. 6. Don't pet them like a dogMost cats like affection, but petting a cat is different than petting a dog. Cats don't usually enjoy heavy strokes or pets that run their whole body. Their favorite petting spots are usually their heads, cheeks, and under the chin. Avoid their bellies unless you've really earned their trust, and even then a cat may or may not like their belly touched. "Do not disturb."Photo credit: Canva7. Honor the 'Do Not Disturb' signSee a cat loafing on the sofa or curled up in a sun spot on the carpet? Leave them be. Cat naps are sacred and they do not want to be disturbed. (It is tempting, though. A cat sleeping is the kind of cute that begs for cuddles. Resist the urge.)8. Speak cat body languageCats communicate far more with their body language than with sounds. A flicking tail means a cat is stimulated, possibly irritated. Purring can be a sign of contentment, but it can also be a signal of stress or pain or a way to self-soothe. Cats knead (or "make biscuits") for comfort. Showing you their belly can mean they trust you, but it can also be a trap. Watch for patterns to learn what your cat is telling you with their body language. The litter box is sacred. Giphy 9. Keep the litter box sacredCats don't love to do their business in front of people or in busy, noisy parts of the house. They also like their toilet to be clean, so keep it scooped daily and change out the litter frequently. Use unscented litter and use an open box if possible (enclosed litter boxes trap odors inside). And have one litter box for each cat in your home, plus one extra.10. Routine isn't boring—it's comfort.Cats may seem like wild creatures in many ways, but they actually love routine. Too much change to their home environment and regular routine can stress them out, so things like the family going on vacation or getting new furniture can cause stress and anxiety. As the video states, "Cats don't see routine as boring; they see it as safe." 11. Quiet is connectionKitties love sitting silently in the same place with their people. "Cats are masters of presence," the video says. Cats love quiet companionship, so if they're sitting silently in the room with you, that's a form of bonding. Just be with them in the silence and try not to disturb the peace too much. Following these unspoken rules can help create a comfortable, happy life for our feline friends, even if they can't tell us that directly. You can follow Feline Fanatics on YouTube for more helpful cat tips. This article originally appeared last year.

It's not brains or talent. Expert says high achievers have two traits anyone can learn.

It's not brains or talent. Expert says high achievers have two traits anyone can learn.

Why is it that some people are high achievers who have a track record of success and some people never come close to accomplishing their dreams? Is it talent, luck, or how you were raised? Is it that some people are just gifted and have exceptional talents that others don't?The good news is, according to psychologist Angela Duckworth, the most critical factor in being a high achiever has nothing to do with talent or intelligence. It’s how long you can keep getting back up after getting hit. She calls it “grit” and, according to Duckworth’s research, it’s the common denominator in high achievers across the board, whether it’s cadets at West Point or kids in a spelling bee. Duckworth goes into depth on the topic in her book Grit: The Power of Passion and Perseverance. What personal traits make someone successful?“The common denominator of high achievers, no matter what they’re achieving, is this special combination of passion and perseverance for really long-term goals,” Duckworth revealed on The Mel Robbins Podcast. “And in a word, it’s grit.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Mel Robbins (@melrobbins)“Partly, it’s hard work, right? Partly it’s practicing what you can’t yet do, and partly it’s resilience,” she continued. “So part of perseverance is, on the really bad days, do you get up again? So, if you marry passion for long-term goals with perseverance for long-term goals well then you have this quality that I find to be the common denominator of elite achievers in every field that I've studied."When pressed to define the specific meaning of grit, Duckworth responded: “It’s these two parts, right? Passion for long-term goals, like loving something and staying in love with it. Not kind of wandering off and doing something else, and then something else again, and then something else again, but having a kind of North Star." - YouTube www.youtube.com For anyone who wants to achieve great things in life, grit is an attitude that one can develop for themselves that isn’t based on natural abilities or how well one was educated. Those things matter, of course, but having a gritty attitude is something someone can learn."I am not saying that there aren't genes at play because every psychologist will tell you that's also part of the story for everything and grit included,” Duckworth said. “But absolutely, how gritty we are is a function of what we know, who were around, and the places we go."Why grit is so importantGrit is critical for people to become highly successful because it means that you stick with the task even when confronted with barriers. In every journey of taking an idea that you love and turning it into reality there is going to be what’s known as the dark swamp of despair—a place that you must wade through to get to the other side. It takes grit and determination to make it through the times when you fear that you might fail. If it were easy, then everyone could be high achievers. The emotional journey of creating anything great goes through the dark swap of despair. pic.twitter.com/GlwozyARIM— Vala Afshar (@ValaAfshar) October 30, 2024 Grit is what keeps people practicing in their room every night as teenagers and makes them an accomplished guitar player. Grit is what makes a basketball player the first one in the gym and the last to leave so that they make the starting lineup. Grit is knocking on the next door after 12 people have just slammed their doors in your face. The wonderful thing about Duckworth’s work is that it presents an opportunity for everyone willing to do the work. You can no longer use the fact that you may not have specialized intelligence or a God-given talent as an excuse. All you need is perseverance and passion and you have as good a shot as anyone at achieving your dreams. This article originally appeared last year.

14 comfort meals from the 1970s that are still delicious and affordable

All things old are new again—and the same goes for classic recipes. For those who grew up during the 1970s (that's Baby Boomers and Generation Jones), staple dishes that were served at the dinner table are being rediscovered on Reddit by newer generations looking for filling, comforting, and affordable meals.According to JSTOR, actress Liza Minelli first coined "comfort food" back in 1970. Minelli told food columnist Johna Blinn, "Comfort food is anything you just yum, yum, yum." Meals from the 1970s are nostalgic and also budget friendly. Try making one of these comforting recipes from Redditors that will fill you up and not break the bank. - YouTube www.youtube.com Tuna casserole "I LITERALLY made a tuna casserole last night & had the leftovers for lunch today." - Disastrous-Soup-5413, RogerClyneIsAGod2Turkey (or chicken) tetrazzini "Tetrazzini is a creamy pasta dish with turkey (or chicken) chicken, mushrooms, and cheese." - Disastrous-Soup-5413Liver and onions"Liver and onions, mashed potatoes and a green salad made with iceberg lettuce, tomatoes cut in wedges, cucumber slices .. peeled and miracle whip salad dressing." - KaktusbluteQuiche Lorraine"A family favorite quiche recipe from the 1970’s. The secret? Half a cup of mayonnaise and an unreasonable quantity of cheese. My mom uses sweet onion instead of green onion, but otherwise made as written:1/2 c. real mayonnaise1/2 c. milk2 eggs1 Tbsp. corn starch1 1/2 c. cubed cooked ham1 1/2 c. (about 1/2 pound) chopped Swiss cheese1/3 c. sliced green onionDash pepper1 unbaked 9" pastry shellMix together real mayonnaise, milk, eggs and corn starch until smooth. Stir in ham, cheese, onion and pepper. Turn into pastry shell. Bake in 350 degree Fahrenheit oven 35-40 minutes until golden brown on top and knife inserted comes out clean." - banoctopus - YouTube www.youtube.com Cheese fondue"For fondue, you can go in a few different directions. Cubed crusty bread is one of the classic ways to dip into cheese fondue, but you could use fruits, vegetables, chunks of cooked or cured sausages, so long as they will keep their structural integrity." - Bluecat72Meatloaf and baked potatoes"A basic meatloaf is ground beef, minced onions, bread crumbs, an egg and a squirt of ketchup for moisture, salt, pepper, garlic powder.. whatever you like. Get your hands in there and squish it all together until thoroughly mixed. Form into a vague loaf shape on a pan and bake at 350 for an hour. Poke a couple potatoes with a fork and cook them in the microwave for 5-7 minutes. Enjoy a meatloaf sandwich with mustard for lunch the next day
