Def Leppard’s Top 10

Def Leppard played their first gig in ’78 and were recording the following year. While doing passably well in their native U.K., they didn’t have much impact elsewhere and found themselves stuck in the “opening act” slot. Enter Robert John “Mutt” Lange who had built a reputation as a highly successful producer. His main function was to guide a group through the recording process. For a band so close, Lange provided the polish and significant touches to put Def Leppard over the top. 10. Rocket From the “Hysteria” album, it was the band’s final single from the album to be released with guitarist Steve Clark before his death in 1991. Rocket 9. Armageddon It Also on “Hysteria,” the song was released as a single in 1988 and went to #3 in the U.S., becoming their 3rd Top 10 hit. Lead singer Joe Ellliot has termed the vocalist “T-Rex meets Eddie Cochran, with backing vocals.” Armageddon It 8. Bringin’ On The Heartbreak From their 1981 album “High N’ Dry” the song was written by three of the band’s members: lead guitarist Steve Clark, rhythm guitarist Pete Willis and vocalist Joe Elliot.  Bringin’ On The Heartbreak 7. Rock Of Ages The band was in a recording studio when Elliot came across a hymn book left by a member of a children’s choir that had just used the studio. In the book, he saw the words “Rock Of Ages, which prompted him to compose the song’s lyrics. Rock Of Ages 6. Animal “When people saw us on Top of the Pops (in the U.K.) doing ‘Animal’ they heard a really great song that, style-wise, had more in common with IINXS or U2 … And that was the band we wanted to be.” Animal 5. Foolin’ Issued in 1983, the single from “Pyromania” reached #9 on the Billboard Mainstream Rock chart.   The music video was directed by David Mallet and shot at the Ritz Theatre in Elizabeth, NJ. Foolin’ 4. Love Bites The “Hysteria” power-ballad was Def Leppard’s only #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.  The song was written by the band (except drummer Rick Allen) and producer “Mutt” Lange, who also provided backing vocals. Love Bites 3. Photograph Elliot described the lead single from the band’s third studio effort, “Pyromania” (1983) as generally about “something you can’t ever get your hands on.” In 2013, the song was featured in the Grand Theft Auto V video game. Photograph 2. Hysteria The title track from the band’s fourth studio set (the third produced by Lange) was the band’s first Top 10 hit on the Billboard Hot 100 peaking at #10. Hysteria 1. Pour Some Sugar On Me By the spring of 1988, “Hysteria” had sold 3-million copies, which was not enough to cover the album’s $5 million production costs. So the band edited footage from an upcoming concert film to make a new promo clip for “Pour Some Sugar On Me.” It reached #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1988 and is considered the band’s signature song. Pour Some Sugar On Me Def Leppard: Joe Elliot – Lead Vocals Phil Collen– guitar/Backing Vocals Vivian Campbell – guitar/Backing Vocals Rick Savage – Bass Rick Allen– Drums Former Members: Pete Willis – Guitar/Backing Vocals (1977–1982) Steve Clark – Guitar/Backing Vocals (1978–1991; his death) ### The post Def Leppard’s Top 10 appeared first on RockinTown.

DIY Natural Repellents – Protect Your Animals from Ticks and Fleas

Pests such as ticks and fleas threaten the health of your pets and livestock. Left unchecked, they cause irritation and weaken your household animals over time. These insects also transmit diseases that can spread to your flock and even to humans. Unfortunately, many store-bought treatments contain harsh chemicals that lead to skin reactions and other complications. Using these artificial solutions is basically trading one problem for another. Meanwhile, DIY natural repellents provide an effective, chemical-free solution to your bug problems. Featuring organic readily-available ingredients, they can better safeguard your animals without exposing them to harmful toxins. Why Choose DIY Natural Repellents? Homemade repellents offer multiple advantages over commercial products. Safer for Animals – Natural ingredients reduce the risk of irritation and toxicity. Environmentally Friendly – These remedies prevent harmful chemicals from contaminating soil and water. Cost-Effective – Most ingredients are commonly found in your kitchen or garden. Customizable – You can adjust each solution’s scent and strength to match your animal’s needs. Prevention is essential because ticks and fleas thrive in warm, humid environments. Consistently applying DIY natural repellents and maintaining a clean environment can reduce the risk of further infestations. Homemade Herbal Spray for Ticks and Fleas A simple herbal spray can effectively deter fleas and ticks without irritating your pet’s skin. The combination of essential oils and apple cider vinegar result in a natural and effective barrier against pests. Ingredients: 2 cups apple cider vinegar 1 cup water 10 drops lavender essential oil 10 drops cedarwood essential oil 10 drops eucalyptus essential oil Instructions: Combine all ingredients in a spray bottle. Shake well before each use. Lightly mist your pet’s fur but avoid the eyes and mouth. For additional protection, spray bedding, collars, and outdoor areas. Apple cider vinegar naturally repels fleas while cedarwood and lavender oils deter ticks. For more information on pet-safe essential oils, visit the American Kennel Club. DIY Flea and Tick Repellent Collar A flea-repellent collar provides long-lasting protection for your pets and makes for an excellent alternative to chemical flea treatments. The collar gradually releases natural oils that repel pests but leave your beloved animals unharmed none the wiser. Unlike chemical-based alternatives, this version is non-toxic and easy to refresh. What You Need: A soft fabric or leather collar 1 tablespoon almond oil 5 drops rosemary essential oil 5 drops geranium essential oil Steps: Mix the essential oils with the almond oil. Apply the mixture evenly to the collar. Let the collar dry before placing it on your pet. Reapply weekly to maintain effectiveness. This method is both effective and soothing because the essential oils deter fleas and ticks and promote healthy skin. Diatomaceous Earth for Tick and Flea Control Diatomaceous earth (DE) a natural, non-toxic powder that dehydrates and kills fleas and ticks on contact. It works by damaging the insects’ exoskeletons and causing them to lose moisture and die. Make sure to only use food-grade DE, as industrial versions are unsafe for animals. How to Use: Lightly dust DE on pet fur but avoid the eyes and nose. Sprinkle it on bedding, carpets, and outdoor resting areas. Leave it for 24 hours before vacuuming or brushing. For the best results, reapply the DE weekly or after rain. It’s also safe for livestock such as chickens, goats, and horses. Neem Oil Treatment for Livestock and Pets Neem oil is a natural pesticide that repels fleas and ticks and is safe for dogs, horses, and other livestock. Note however that you should avoid using them on cats as they’re not fond of strong-smelling oils. Neem Oil Spray Recipe: 2 tablespoons neem oil 1 quart warm water 1 teaspoon mild soap (for mixing) How to Apply: Mix neem oil and soap in a spray bottle. Add warm water and shake well. Spray onto your animal’s coat, focusing on legs and underbelly. Neem oil contains compounds like azadirachtin, which interfere with the growth and reproduction of fleas and ticks. It also disrupts their ability to lay eggs and develop into mature pests. Frequent application are effective in reducing these pests’ populations. DIY Natural Repellents Keep Your Animals Safe DIY natural repellents provide effective and chemical-free protection for pets and livestock. Herbal sprays, flea-repellent collars, diatomaceous earth and neem oil all offer excellent alternatives to commercial treatments. Combine these remedies with consistent grooming and active yard maintenance to help prevent infestations. Have you tried natural flea and tick repellents? Share your experience in the comments below! FAQs Are DIY natural repellents safe for all animals? Most natural repellents are safe for dogs, livestock, and poultry. However, cats are sensitive to essential oils, so always consult your vet before use. How often should I apply natural flea and tick repellents? For best results, apply homemade sprays daily and refresh flea collars weekly. Diatomaceous earth should be reapplied after rain or every few weeks. Can I use neem oil on cats? No, cats are highly sensitive to neem oil and many essential oils. Instead, try brushing them with a flea comb and using diatomaceous earth sparingly. Do natural flea repellents work as well as chemical treatments? While natural methods may require more frequent application, they effectively repel fleas and ticks without the side effects of chemical treatments. Can I use diatomaceous earth indoors? Yes, food-grade DE is safe for indoor use. Sprinkle it on pet bedding, carpets, and furniture to kill fleas and vacuum after 24 hours. Which essential oils repel fleas and ticks best? Regular grooming, clean bedding, and a maintained yard help prevent fleas and ticks. In addition, using DIY repellents consistently keeps pests away.
