Country Music Fans Aren’t Gonna Like What Chris Stapleton Has To Say About The Prospect Of New Music…
When it comes to picking some of the best talent out there to tour with him, Chris Stapleton is the best, and this summer, he’s hitting the road on his All-American Road Show concert series for the tenth year in a row, in addition to headlining several major festivals throughout 2026.
He will hit the road with a premiere group of country artists including, Zach Top, reigning CMA Entertainer of the Year Lainey Wilson, Ashley McBryde, Carter Faith, Grace Potter, Allen Stone, Molly Tuttle, Maggie Rose, Mike Campbell & The Dirty Knobs, The Teskey Brothers and Nikki Lane will all make appearances, and Allen Stone will serve as the primary opener, being slated for 10 separate shows.
But it’s not just some random selection of artists, as you can probably tell just by looking at the quality of who is performing. Stapleton explained to Rolling Stone in a recent interview that he, along with wife Morgane, is “very involved” and “very specific” in terms of who they ask to open.
Unlike managers, public relations people, or other industry types that focus on numbers when it comes to picking openers, Stapleton follows his heart and the music he loves… you’d be surprised how often that doesn’t happen when it comes to these types of things:
“We are very involved in that and we are very specific in who we ask to do those things and who we don’t ask. Sometimes, people want to make math out of it, but it’s not really math for us.
It’s ‘Does this fit with what we do, or is it different enough from what we do that it gives fans a different experience? Are we exposing people to some music that they might not find otherwise?’ We try to find people that may be outside of country music too.”
Of his opener Allen Stone, an R&B and soul singer from Washington state, Stapleton is excited for fans to get to know him and his music.
And as one might think considering Stapleton just took home his 12th Grammy award for “Bad As I Used to Be,” which was part of the F1 movie soundtrack, and considering the fact that he has an extensive tour that includes arenas and stadiums all over the world, fans have wondered if new music might be coming this year too.
He most recently released his stellar award-winning album Higher in 2023, so it’s going on three years now since he put out a full project of new music, though very unfortunately, it sounds like new music is not in the works anytime soon.
When asked if he’s been writing, Stapleton had a very short, one-word response for Rolling Stone:
“Nope!”
I mean, it’s nice to have a definitive answer, but it’s not the one I want. He recently told Dax Shepard that he wasn’t planning on retiring, but that he’s already done enough to retire without any regret. He also said that he no plans of writing or recording any time soon, and wouldn’t force it unless he was inspired to do so… not exactly what fans want to hear. Chris is as authentic as they come, and unfortunately for us, he’ll never make a record for the sake of making a record.
Until then, we wait…
