Mother Asks Trump for Help Bringing 7-Year-Old Daughter Home From China

There are 300 children in China who have been waiting to come home for over five years, and President Donald Trump is “the only one that can make this happen at this point,” mother Lauren Hawley says.     A day does not go by that Hawley and her family don’t talk about Eleanor, their 7-year-old daughter who is currently living in an orphanage in China.   “These children are not forgotten, and they have sisters and brothers and grandparents and cousins that have ached every single day that they’ve not been home,” Hawley said through tears.   Hawley, her husband, and three daughters are one of 300 adoptive American families who were matched with a child in China before China closed its international adoption program in 2024. To this day, it remains unclear if the 300 families who had been told they were cleared to move ahead with their adoptions are grandfathered in since the program’s closing was announced after the 300 adoption matches were made.   Hawley believes it will only take one phone call between world leaders for the waiting children to come home.  “I would just ask President Trump to please, please put this at the forefront of the conversations you’re having. It may not feel like a big deal because it’s 300 kids, but there’s 300 kids that have missed out on the love and the provision of these families,” the mother told The Daily Signal.   Eleanor holds a pillow sent to her by the Hawley family. (Courtesy of Lauren Hawley) Hawley and husband Kevin Hawley began the adoption process in 2018 and chose to adopt from China because Lauren Hawley, in her own words, has “had this love for the Chinese people” since she was a girl, which led her to minor in Chinese in college and take multiple trips to China.  The Hawleys were matched with their daughter Eleanor in January of 2020 and thought she would be home by April, in time for her second birthday in May. Upon first seeing Eleanor’s picture, “we just both melted,” Lauren Hawley said, adding, “it just felt like a deep knowing that she was ours.”   Eleanor has a metabolic disorder and there is a clinic near the Hawleys’ home outside Cincinnati, Ohio, that is well equipped to provide her with medical care.  The COVID-19 pandemic initially slowed the adoption and soon months turned into years of waiting.   When Lauren Hawley heard the news last year that China was closing its international adoption program, she had a panic attack.   “I couldn’t breathe. It was like the death of a child,” Hawley said. But a week later, adoption organizations such as Lifeline Children’s Services gave Hawley hope, explaining that it was not clear if China might still allow the already matched children to come home.   The Hawley family had 30-minute video calls with Eleanor every six months ahead of China closing its international adoption program.   “She knew us. She called us ‘mama and baba,’ and she called her big sisters ‘jie jie,’ which is big sister in Chinese. And we talked about getting on a plane, and we said, ‘Mommy’s going to come and bring you home on a plane.’ We told her how much we loved her, and, you know she knew we were coming.”  The Hawleys have not been given the opportunity to explain to Eleanor why they have not come to bring her home, and they have no way of knowing if the orphanage has told the 7-year-old the situation or that the Hawley family is still working to bring her home.   A recent photo of the Hawley family. (Courtesy of Lauren Hawley) “You feel like these precious children have had so much loss already, and then to go through losing another family and being told we love you, we want to bring you home, and then all of a sudden, nothing. I can’t imagine what their hearts have gone through,” the mother said.   Hawley says she is committed to continuing to fight for “every single one of these children” because they are “worth fighting years for, no matter how long it takes.”  The post Mother Asks Trump for Help Bringing 7-Year-Old Daughter Home From China  appeared first on The Daily Signal.

What Democrats Are Missing in Trying to Recapture Young People

BALDWIN, Pennsylvania—Collin Arthrell sat at a table filled with young people at a luncheon in a middle-class suburban Pittsburgh borough, dressed neatly in a suit with his curly hair neatly cropped. Four years ago, you would not have seen this many young people psyched about voting in an off-year cycle. But a lot of things have changed since President Donald Trump’s reelection, including some profound cultural changes, from Trump approving U.S. Steel facilities to the gruesome murder of Charlie Kirk. All around the luncheon were posters, photos, and a display that let attendees touch hard hats, flame-retardant overalls, and even coke and steel. They all served as reminders of how much the U.S. Steel-Nippon Steel deal means not just to the Mon Valley suburbs in terms of stability but also to young people who are now keenly aware that they can have a future here, a stability that was missing for decades. Many of the parents and grandparents in attendance were multigenerational steelworkers. This included Don German, plant manager for the Irvin Works in nearby Dravosburg, and Scott Buckiso, executive vice president and chief manufacturing officer at U.S. Steel, who began his career at the Clarion Works at the same time German did in the 1990s. Arthrell, 15, did something you rarely see from a young person at these events. He walked up to the microphone at the podium to speak. “I am a sophomore, as well as the president of Club America TJ (Thomas Jefferson),” he said. “First and foremost, I would like to express my gratitude to the West Jefferson Hills Republican community for inviting us here today. So thank you guys. I appreciate it. In 2018, I established a nonprofit organization called Collin’s Elves that focused on supporting military members through care packages, and since that time, I’ve distributed over 15,000 care packages worldwide,” he explained, eliciting gasps from the crowd. “This journey has taught extraordinary lessons in leadership and has humbled me in recognizing everyday comforts we often take for granted,” he said. “Following the tragic loss of Charlie Kirk, I felt a strong urge to bring people together and further his mission of truth. In the past few weeks, there was a significant effort required to get our clubs approved within the school district, and I’m thrilled to announce that as of last week, we succeeded, with over 60 students signed up to carry on,” he said. Arthrell explained that Kirk’s work will never be forgotten, and young people will not waver in their commitment to the future. “Together, this chapter holds a potential to accomplish remarkable things for the youth in our community. It will not only unite us as conservative students but also empower us to educate ourselves on truth and morals, enabling us to share this knowledge with others,” he said. Arthrell said he was very affected by a commencement speech that Navy Adm. William McRaven delivered at the University of Texas, highlighting the significance of making your bed each day. “He said every task, no matter how large or small, represents an achievement that contributes to our broader goals. Each goal sets a bench warrant for who we aspire to be and how we will advance toward our vision,” Arthrell said. He added that while these tasks may sometimes prove challenging, they’re crucial for young people’s growth toward affecting change, improving themselves, and standing firmly on their beliefs. “I stand before you today, uncertain of what this new chapter will involve, yet filled with hope. I sincerely hope that my fellow classmates and peers will come together to grow into confident and positive adults. We’ll educate ourselves and raise awareness about the realities of being a young conservative, steering clear of any false ideas,” Arthrell said. Arthrell looked around at the crowd, in particular the young people at the front tables, and urged them to step up. “We’re at a crucial juncture in restoring our country to its wholesome values, ensuring the future we can believe in, look forward to, and most importantly, feel proud of. We can take pride in the choices we make as I continue to make my bed each day. I will also encourage others to do the same, rather than allowing others to infringe upon our rights. We’ll learn to read the Constitution, not rewrite it,” he said. Buckiso said he was blown away and also reminded everyone to continue encouraging young people to discover their purpose. This event was just one of dozens, not just since Kirk’s murder but over the past year, where young people—particularly young men who have been lost over the past few years as our culture has demonized them—have become much more vocal in their conservatism. The shift began during the dark days of COVID-19, when early precautions turned into heavy control in their education and in our culture. There are two forces at work here, and it’s a nuanced situation, so it’s easy to miss from 30,000 feet. The overall emotional and economic impact of U.S. Steel’s deal with Nippon Steel caused a collective sigh of relief among workers, retirees, and their children and grandchildren. There is high value given in places such as western Pennsylvania on retaining that connective tissue that allows you to have Sunday dinner with your parents and grandparents. The other factor, of course, is the young people. As California Gov. Gavin Newsom, a Democrat, plays video games and talks about “Fortnite” and Snoop Dogg to try to win back young people, he’s missing the fact that Trump didn’t win young people by doing any of those things. He won them over with a healthy dose of Vice President JD Vance, as well as by talking right to them and seeing that what they wanted was to know their “place” was going to be OK. It’s the nuance that many top Democrats and their strategists have still failed to grasp. COPYRIGHT 2025 CREATORS.COM We publish a variety of perspectives. Pumpkin Cobbler

Pumpkin Cobbler

Pumpkin Cobbler has a soft cake top and an ooey gooey bottom. Such a simple fall dessert that tastes amazing with ice cream or whipped cream! A FUN FALL TREAT Pumpkin Cobbler is the perfect fall dessert! This cobbler is a lot like chocolate cobbler, you get sort of that cake-like topping with a gooey pumpkin spiced flavor bottom. It may not be the prettiest dessert but it sure does taste good – ha! It’s the kind of homemade baked good I love: simple ingredients, easy steps, and big flavor! FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:  Can I use a cake mix instead? Cake mixes are designed for a 9×13-inch dish and this is only a 9-inch dish so it won’t really work unless you want to double the recipe. I have not tested this with a cake mix so I just cannot tell you from personal experience how it would turn out. If you decide to experience, please let me know in the comments below! Can I make this a sugar free Pumpkin Cobbler? I definitely think this could be made sugar free or lower in sugar by using substitutes. I like the 1:1 baking substitutes like Splenda or Truvia for baking (they have a white and brown sugar version now.) However, if you are used to sugar free baking then I am sure you already know the substitutes you prefer! What else can I add to this cobbler? For extra flavor, try adding 1/2 cup of white chocolate chips or a handful of dried cranberries to the batter. Can I double this Pumpkin Cobbler? To double this recipe, double the ingredients and use a 9×13-inch pan and increase the baking time by about 10-15 minutes (as always, go by done-ness, not just by time.) How do I store leftover cobbler? Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. What’s the best way to reheat leftover Pumpkin Cobbler? Reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30-60 seconds, or warm the entire dish in the oven at 325°F until heated through. INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE) all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, sugar – the standard ingredients in cakes – just make sure your baking powder is fresh. Most baked goods don’t turn out because too much flour was measured out or the leavening agent was no longer active. pumpkin pie spice – if you don’t have pumpkin pie spice, make some Homemade Pumpkin Pie Spice instead. pure pumpkin puree– not pumpkin pie filling. They’re not the same thing and will not yield the same result if you use the one you aren’t supposed to. melted unsalted butter– you can use salted butter, just cut the salt down to an ⅛ teaspoon. Additionally, you can use coconut oil or vegetable oil in place of melted butter. pure vanilla extract light brown sugar – for a deeper, richer flavor, try using dark brown sugar. chopped pecans or walnuts– these are optional ingredients. If you’re not a fan of nuts, simply omit them or replace them with rolled oats for a crunchy topping. HOW TO MAKE PUMPKIN COBBLER: Preheat the oven to 350°F.  Spray a 9-inch baking dish or a similar-sized casserole dish with nonstick cooking spray. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, granulated sugar, and 2 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice. Add the pumpkin puree, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Stir until just combined, being careful not to overmix. Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking dish. In a small bowl, mix the brown sugar, 1/2 teaspoon of pumpkin pie spice, and chopped nuts (if using). Sprinkle this mixture evenly over the batter. Carefully pour the hot water over the entire dish. Do not stir. Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until the cake has risen to the top and is set, with a gooey sauce at the bottom. Let the cobbler cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream. Enjoy!
