The rogue judicial branch strikes, yet again. Today, another activist federal judge defied the Supreme Court in an effort to stop the potential deportations of over one million migrants. San Francisco U.S. District Judge Edward Chen, who was originally appointed by Barack Obama, issued a ruling that blocks the Trump administration from canceling the temporary protected status of around 1.1 million Haitian and Venezuelan immigrants. Per Reuters: Temporary Protected Status is available to people whose home country has experienced a natural disaster, armed conflict or other extraordinary event. It provides eligible migrants with work authorization and temporary protection from deportation. The program was created in 1991 and under Biden was extended to cover about 600,000 Venezuelans and 521,000 Haitians. Noem reversed the extensions in February, saying they were no longer justified. Judge Chen’s ruling goes directly against a Supreme Court ruling in May that explicitly granted the Trump administration permission to go ahead and end the Temporary Protected Status program. From CBS News: “This case arose from action taken post haste by the current DHS Secretary, Kristi Noem, to revoke the legal status of Venezuelan and Haitian TPS holders, sending them back to conditions that are so dangerous that even the State Department advises against travel to their home countries,” Chen wrote in a 69-page decision. “The Secretary’s action in revoking TPS was not only unprecedented in the manner and speed in which it was taken but also violates the law.” In May, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to end the TPS program for hundreds of thousands of Venezuelans, freezing an earlier ruling by Chen. Chen said that decision concerned only preliminary relief he ordered that postponed the Department of Homeland Security’s actions. The high court’s order, he said, did not bar him from adjudicating the case on the merits or issuing relief under the Administrative Procedure Act, a federal law that governs the agency rulemaking process. The Justice Department will likely appeal the decision. The Department of Homeland Security criticized the ruling in a statement, and said Noem will “use every legal option at the Department’s disposal to end this chaos and prioritize the safety of Americans.” “For decades the TPS program has been abused, exploited, and politicized as a de facto amnesty program. Its use has been all the more dangerous given the millions of unvetted illegal aliens the Biden Administration let into this country,” the statement read. It’s likely that this case will head back to the Supreme Court and be overturned. Still, it’s absolutely infuriating that these corrupt, leftist judges have the gumption to get in the way every time the Trump administration tries to do something. The judicial coup has to end. The NRA is not happy with the White House. As the WLT Report covered earlier in the week, a response to the Minneapolis Catholic school shooting, the Department of Justice is now considering banning transgenders from owning guns. However, the talks are not President Trump’s official stance and are currently in their preliminary stages. Many conservative gun advocates do not agree with the possible ban. In a press release on Friday, the National Rifle Association expressed complete disagreement with the possible ban and stated that it violates the Second Amendment. Independent covered the NRA’s response: News of a potential plan from Donald Trump’s administration to block transgender Americans from owning firearms was met with an avalanche of opposition — including from major Second Amendment groups historically aligned with Republicans. The National Rifle Association, among the nation’s largest and most influential lobbying groups, said “the Second Amendment isn’t up for debate.” “The NRA supports the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans to purchase, possess and use firearms,” the group said in a statement Friday. “NRA does not, and will not, support any policy proposals that implement sweeping gun bans that arbitrarily strip law-abiding citizens of their Second Amendment rights without due process,” the group said. Gun Owners of America, another major gun rights lobbying group, said it “opposes any and all gun bans. The DOJ officials’ conversations are in an early stage and no concrete steps have been taken, according to conversations with multiple sources. But the discussions surrounding two hotly contested issues for Republicans — preserving Second Amendment rights and tightening policies related to transgender people — are happening. One source pointed to a “pattern” of shootings carried out by transgender people, including the recent tragedy at a Catholic Church in Minnesota. Robin Westman, who was named Robert through 2019, killed two children and injured more than a dozen others before dying by suicide. Westman’s firearms were purchased legally, according to the Associated Press.
