NPR's Montanaro Sees Media 'Double Standard' in Fact-Checking -- In Trump's Favor!

NPR's Montanaro Sees Media 'Double Standard' in Fact-Checking -- In Trump's Favor!

The latest Washington Week with The Atlantic was most notable for National Public Radio’s senior political editor Domenico Montanaro ludicrously imbalanced fact-checking of Trump vs. Harris and host Jeffrey Goldberg’s accusations of double standards in media coverage of the campaign -- in favor of Trump! JEFFREY GOLDBERG, moderator: I want to talk about, I'll call it plainly, a double standard that we have in this campaign. We`re sitting here, parsing, as we should, what the Democratic nominee for president says in an interview, how she answers questions about a whole range of subjects. Meanwhile, this is what Donald Trump had to say this week. TRUMP clip: Groceries, food has gone up at levels that nobody's ever seen before. But we've never seen anything like it, 50, 60, 70 percent. You take a look at bacon and some of these products, and some people don`t eat bacon anymore. And we are going to get the energy prices down. When we get energy down, you know, this was caused by their horrible energy, wind. They want wind all over the place. But when it doesn't blow, we have a little problem. This snippet was hot in the leftist media, and the article highlighting it in The Atlantic was titled "Six Degrees of Trump and Bacon." It's a rhetorical ramble, but the point was surely clear enough, especially for journalists – that expensive liberal environmental policies, like generating energy through wind turbines, can contribute to food price increases at the store. But Goldberg said it would disqualify anyone in the Intelligent Party:  GOLDBERG: Here’s the thing, I’ll make this observation. I’ll own it. If Kamala Harris went from bacon to wind in her interview with Dana Bash, she would, this morning, not be -- the next morning, she would not be the nominee of the Democratic Party. That would have been a very, very strange -- people would have been like, what is going on? Do we just have an absurdly low standard now for the things that Donald Trump says and does? NPR’s Montanaro agreed with Goldberg, then actually attention to his partisanship by citing his own wacky fact-check compiling 162 (!) Trump distortions and lies within an hour-long speech. MONTANARO: I think that there is definitely a double standard, and I think part of it is how each side`s voters interpret their candidate....I think that from reporter`s standpoint, we do have to be careful about how we -- what level we hold both of them to. When I fact-checked Donald Trump’s hour press conference, he told 162 lies and distortions within that time period, 2.5 a minute, compared to Kamala Harris’s DNC acceptance speech, where she had 12 statements that I found were contextually misleading or needed more. Indeed, Montanaro fact-checked Trump last month in a ridiculously nit-picking fashion that would likely be seen as a waste of time even by the average Trump-loathing NPR listener. Here are just two of the 162 of Trump’s alleged “misstatements, exaggerations and outright lies,” some of which deal with standard partisan campaign trail insults from Trump against Harris, or speculation or predictions that by definition aren't falsifiable. 17. “Rasmussen came out today. We're substantially leading.”  Montanaro’s rebuttal: "Trump is not substantially leading, and Rasmussen is viewed as one of the least credible pollsters in the country." Stat-based poll guru-prognosticator Nate Silver would have a lot to say about that liberally biased judgement above, besides noting Rasmussen’s track record was “average” and that if Rasmussen had a Republican bias, “other polls have had a Democratic bias.” Or: 25. “She can't do an interview. She's barely competent and she can't do an interview.”  In reply, Montanaro plucked the race card: "Harris hasn’t done interviews since getting into the campaign, but she has done them in the past, so saying “she can’t do” one or that she is “barely competent” are just insults. Trump tends to revert to questioning the intelligence of Black women who challenge him." There’s much more on Montanaro’s partisan piece in Tim Graham’s column. By contrast, Montanaro sounded achingly apologetic in the third paragraph of his far shorter fact-check of Kamala Harris’s nomination acceptance speech: It’s the role of the press to try and hold politicians to account for the accuracy of their statements in a good-faith way. The dozen Harris statements lacking in context are far less in comparison to 162 misstatements, exaggerations and outright lies that NPR found from Trump’s hour-long news conference Aug. 8.

Previously deported illegal alien stabs teen girl at a baseball game in the random attack: Police

An illegal immigrant was arrested on Sunday afternoon after he was accused of randomly attacking a 14-year-old girl at a baseball game in Lowell, Indiana. The Lake County Sheriff’s Department apprehended 26-year-old Dimas Gabriel Yanez over the weekend after an extensive manhunt, WMAQ-TV reported. 'Just started swinging it on her.'Early Sunday morning, a teenage girl attending her brother’s baseball game was allegedly stabbed by Gabriel Yanez. The suspect also reportedly attempted to stab the teenager’s mother when she tried to intervene in the assault.Matthew Ramian, the coach of the baseball team that was playing when the stabbing occurred, told WLS-TV, “He just jumped on her and pushed her over, smashed her umbrella over. And then proceeded to pull out, what I called a bowie knife or like a big 16-, 18-inch knife, and just started swinging it on her.”According to Ramian, several fathers attending the game chased after the suspect, who fled on foot following the stabbing. However, they lost track of him.The sheriff’s department stated that the suspect ran into a wooded area behind a residential community. Multiple agencies aided in the manhunt, which included K-9 and aviation units. Law enforcement officials ultimately located the suspect in a cornfield and placed him under arrest. Authorities believe that, right before his arrest, he attempted to cut his hair to change his appearance. The girl sustained injuries to her hand and was treated at a hospital before being released the following day. No other injuries were reported as a result of the random violent attack.Gabriel Yanez, a Honduran national, was previously deported from the United States in 2018, according to police. He later re-entered the country illegally.Law enforcement officials believe he may have been involved in other criminal activity across the U.S. since he unlawfully returned. Local authorities notified the U.S. Department of Homeland Security about the arrest.Indiana Attorney General Todd Rokita (R), who has been tough on illegal immigration matters, has filed lawsuits against nearby “sanctuary” jurisdictions for providing a “safe harbor to illegal aliens, against state law.” One of those jurisdictions, East Chicago, repealed its “Welcoming City Ordinance” in response to the AG’s legal action. Rokita called it “a big win for hardworking Hoosiers and legal immigrants who came to our great nation the right way.”Like Blaze News? Virginia women’s college will no longer admit trans students, citing founder’s Will

Virginia women’s college will no longer admit trans students, citing founder’s Will

Sweet Briar College, a women’s school in Virginia, recently announced that it will no longer admit trans-identifying students, citing its founder’s Will. The private women’s liberal arts school, which was established in 1901 through the estate of Indiana Fletcher Williams, did not previously have any policies regarding gender identity. However, recent changes to the Common Application, a nonprofit organization that allows students to apply to schools on one standardized form, prompted the college to make some changes of its own.'Understands the term [women] in its historic and traditional way.'In addition to “female” and “male,” the Common Application, used by more than 1,000 colleges, now allows students to select “X” or “another legal sex.”According to Jenny Rickard, the nonprofit’s president and chief executive officer, the updates “represent the next step in an ongoing effort to create an equitable, just, and inclusive college admission process for all students -- no matter how they identify.”In a message to the campus, Sweet Briar College leaders wrote that the changes to the application have “present[ed] a challenge both for students applying for admission and administrators and staff making admissions decisions.”“Previously, the College did not have a stated admissions policy addressing applicants identifying as other genders, but instead addressed applicants on a case-by-case basis,” the college’s correspondence explained. “This year, however, the Common Application included additional options for the selection of the legal sex … of applicants apart from male or female, creating confusion for applicants seeking to apply to a women’s college like Sweet Briar.”“In fact, various parts of the Common Application now include as many as four gender … designations,” the college added.Sweet Briar College noted that the institution is in a “unique position as the only women’s college in the country that was founded by and governed in accordance with a will that has been codified into law by the state’s legislature.” That Will, belonging to the school’s founder, Fletcher Williams, was “codified by the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Virginia on February 9, 1901, as the College’s Charter.”According to the school, the board “must honor the dictates of the Will, which imposes the requirement that the College be a place of ‘girls and young women’ – a phrase that must be interpreted as it was understood at the time the Will was written.”The college told Inside Higher Ed that while “political and other influences” have called “the meaning of the term ‘woman’ into question,” the board “understands the term [women] in its historic and traditional way consistent with the intentions of our founder.”Some students and alumnae have vowed to push back on the college’s declaration.English professor and faculty senate chairman John Gregory Brown stated that the faculty voted 48-4 to urge the board to rescind the policy.“It really excludes any student who would be offended by those positions ... who doesn’t want to be in a place where discrimination is codified in this way,” Brown told the Independent. “I think it’s a financially disastrous decision for the college.”Like Blaze News? Walz walks away after he was asked about Israeli-American murdered by Hamas before rescue could happen

Governor Tim Walz (D) walked away from reporters after he was asked about Hersh Goldberg-Polin, a hostage held by Hamas, after it was revealed he was killed by the terrorist group shortly before Israel's military could rescue him and five other hostages.Vice President Kamala Harris' running mate was back in St. Paul to attend the Minnesota State Fair, where he participated in a press gaggle and bragged how their state fair is the best in the Midwest. He then answered several questions before being asked about the hostages who were killed. “What’s your reaction to the six hostages being found in Gaza?” a reporter asked."Alright, thanks everybody!" Walz replied after a staffer jumped in to tell him it was time to go.'Whoever murdered our abductees - does not want a deal.' — (@) The Dossier reported the staffer who signaled to Walz it was time to leave was Teddy Tschann, a national press secretary for the Harris-Walz 2024 campaign. Tschann has been a longtime political operative in Minnesota.Walz's decision to not answer the question has been heavily criticized by Republicans and Israel supporters. — (@) The hostages being found killed has reignited the calls for Israel to accept a ceasefire deal to secure the remaining hostages before something else happens to them. President Joe Biden, fresh from spending multiple days at the beach, said he did not believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was doing enough to get a deal done with Hamas."Whoever murdered our abductees - does not want a deal. ... We will hunt and get him and we will come to an account with him," Netanyahu said in a post on X.Like Blaze News?
