President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday prohibiting federal funding for schools teaching “radical, anti-American ideologies” including Critical Race Theory and gender ideology. In recent years, parents have watched schools “indoctrinate” their children rather than provide them with “a rigorous education and to instill a patriotic admiration for our incredible Nation and the values for which we stand,” the order said. “In many cases, innocent children are compelled to adopt identities as either victims or oppressors solely based on their skin color and other immutable characteristics,” the order read. “In other instances, young men and women are made to question whether they were born in the wrong body and whether to view their parents and their reality as enemies to be blamed.” “These practices not only erode critical thinking but also sow division, confusion, and distrust, which undermine the very foundations of personal identity and family unity,” the order stated. The order gives the Education Secretary 90 days to submit a plan for both protecting parental rights and eliminating federal funding and support for “illegal and discriminatory treatment and indoctrination in K-12 schools, including based on gender ideology and discriminatory equity ideology.” A “discriminatory equity ideology” includes claiming a person can be “inherently racist” or “privileged” or “oppressed” because of their skin color or that the U.S. is fundamentally racist, the order said. Gender ideology includes the “false claim that males can identify as and thus become women and vice versa,” the administration clarified in a previous executive order. The ideologies are banned in both the curriculum, as well as teacher training and licensing, the order said. The order warned that “steering students toward surgical and chemical mutilation without parental consent” or allowing males to access women’s bathrooms may violate several federal laws. Likewise, demanding acquiescence to “white privilege” or “unconscious bias” actually “promotes racial discrimination and undermines national unity,” the order said. The order also directs the attorney general to coordinate with state and local authorities on prosecuting K-12 teachers and school officials who break the law by “unlawfully facilitating the social transition of a minor student,” which can include changing names, pronouns, and clothes to present as the opposite sex. Proponents of gender ideology are likely to launch legal challenges to the administration’s efforts to remove it from public schools. Over his first week and a half in office, Trump has also released other executive orders taking aim at gender ideology, including one recognizing two sexes and one banning federal funding for child transgender medicalization.

Trump’s actions on this issue “should bring an immediate and dramatic end to what’s been a true period of national disgrace, which I think will be remembered as no less evil than slavery or abortion,” Boreing said. Boreing said he wanted to take a moment to celebrate the company’s wins on the transgender issue. “There are a lot of people in the conservative movement who deserve a lot of credit for this victory, but a lot of the people who deserve the most credit are sitting right here in this room today,” he said. “To put it bluntly, The Daily Wire has been leading on this issue from the very day that we were founded. In the wake of the story, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, a Republican, pledged to be a voice for concerned parents as he was running for office, a promise that helped him win the election. Matt Walsh, whose Daily Wire podcast has focused specifically on gender ideology in recent years, starred in the hit documentary “What is a Woman?” which galvanized the criticism of gender ideology across the country. Walsh has repeatedly emphasized that transgender drugs and surgeries “mutilate” and often “sterilize” children, which mirrors the language in Trump’s order, “Protecting Children From Chemical And Surgical Mutilation.” In October 2022, Walsh held the “Rally to End Child Mutilation” in Nashville, which came on the heels of his exposé on nearby Vanderbilt University’s pediatric transgender gender clinic offering these drugs and surgeries to children. That investigation prompted Tennessee lawmakers to bring forward legislation banning puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and transgender surgeries on children, and Walsh testified before Tennessee lawmakers about it. The legislation is now before the Supreme Court, and Walsh spoke in front of the court in December as justices heard the case. The Daily Wire has reported on several other children’s hospitals offering these drugs and procedures as well, including Texas Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. Michael Knowles, another Daily Wire podcast host who has hammered the dangers of gender ideology, went viral in 2023 for his language condemning transgenderism during a speech at CPAC. “There can be no middle way in dealing with transgenderism. It is all or nothing,” Knowles said in his remarks. “If it is false, then for the good of society and especially for the good of the poor people who have fallen prey to this confusion, transgenderism must be eradicated from public life entirely, the whole preposterous ideology at every level.” The Daily Wire has reported on the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH), including the group’s decision to remove the minimum age recommendations for minors to receive puberty blockers, cross-sex hormones, and surgeries. Trump’s order calls WPATH guidance “junk science,” and agencies are directed to throw out policies based on it. We have relentlessly covered gender ideology in schools as well, reporting on schools affirming children’s new gender identities behind their parents’ backs, students being exposed to pornographic books at school, teachers being forced to use incorrect pronouns, and children bunking with members of the opposite sex on overnight trips. We have also reported on the nightmare situations parents find themselves in when their children are caught up in gender ideology, including an investigation into a San Francisco father fighting for custody of his toddler son who he said was being raised non-binary by the boy’s mother. He eventually won full custody of his son. In Canada, another father, who was featured anonymously in “What is a Woman?” was thrown in jail after “misgendering” his trans-identifying teenage daughter, The Daily Wire reported. Similarly, we have covered the growing number of detransitioners, young adults who say they regret taking hormone drugs and getting gender surgeries, and share how it has affected them. Daily Wire hosts were initially criticized as harsh for their stance, but as the harms of gender ideology have come to light, more conservatives, and even many moderates, have come out against it. Now, the President of the United States has banned the transgender medicalization of children in a win for every critic who called out the dangers.

Former Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) was sentenced to more than a decade in federal prison this week after being convicted last year in a public corruption scandal where he took bribes to influence U.S. policy. Menendez was sentenced to 11 years in prison and was forced to forfeit more than $920,000 after he was convicted over the summer on 16 felony counts, including conspiracy to commit bribery, conspiracy to commit honest services wire fraud, conspiracy to commit extortion under color of official right, two counts of conspiracy to obstruct justice, two counts of bribery, three counts of honest services wire fraud, three counts of extortion under color of official right, conspiracy for a public official to act as a foreign agent, public official acting as foreign agent, and obstruction of justice. Menendez accepted bribes from three businessmen in exchange for actions that he took as chairman of the powerful Senate Foreign Relations Committee. According to the Department of Justice, the alleged bribes were intended to protect the businessmen and to benefit Egypt. Prosecutors later said in a revised indictment that Menendez also allegedly used his clout to help a friend secure a multi-million dollar investment deal from the Qatari government, in part by taking actions that benefited Qatar. Two of the co-conspirators in the case who made the bribes, Wael Hana and Fred Daibes, were sentenced to more than eight years and seven years in prison, respectively. Menendez’s wife Nadine was also charged in the case, but her trial has been repeatedly delayed as she battles breast cancer. U.S. Attorney Danielle R. Sassoon said: “The sentences imposed today result from an egregious abuse of power at the highest levels of the Legislative Branch of the federal government.” “Robert Menendez was trusted to represent the United States and the State of New Jersey, but instead he used his position to help his co-conspirators and a foreign government, in exchange for bribes like cash, gold, and a luxury car,” she continued. “The sentences imposed today send a clear message that attempts at any level of government to corrupt the nation’s foreign policy and the rule of law will be met with just punishment.”

The policies coming out of Washington, D.C., have the potential to affect Americans who have not even been born yet, whether for good or bad.  The latest National Report Card from the National Assessment of Educational Progress paints an abysmal picture of education across the U.S. The report card is published every two years and assesses the average reading and math scores for fourth and eighth graders. The report showed significant declines for students when it was published in 2022, but the decline was somewhat expected in the wake of school closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. But the assessment completed in 2024 and published Wednesday show little to no improvement in students’ math and reading proficiency.  In 2024, just 39% of fourth grade students performed at or above the proficient math level that is set by the National Assessment of Educational Progress. That’s 3 percentage points higher compared with 2022, but 2 percentage points lower than in 2019.  Eighth grade math scores are at 28% proficiency, about the same as 2022 scores, but 8 points lower compared to 2019.  Reading scores showed an even greater decline than those for math.  In 2024, 31% of fourth grade students performed at or above the proficient level on the reading assessment. That’s a 2 percentage point decline compared to 2022 and 4 percentage points lower than 2019, according to the report card.  And 30% of eighth grade students performed at or above the proficient level in 2024, which was not significantly different from 2022, but lower compared with 2019. But not all the news coming out of the government is negative for our kids right now. Take the confirmation hearing of Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Kennedy, who President Donald Trump has tapped to head the Department of Health and Human Services, testified before the Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday.
