In a new letter to congressional Democrats, President Joe Biden said he is “firmly committed” to staying in the race and keep running for re-election against Donald Trump despite calls for him to step aside. Biden sent the letter to Democrats on Monday, doubling down on his intentions to remain his party’s candidate, according to a copy obtained by Punchbowl News founder Jake Sherman. Biden penned the letter as some lawmakers, including senior House Democrats, reportedly called on the president to end his re-election campaign. “Fellow Democrats, Now that you have returned from the July 4th recess, I want you to know that despite all the speculation in the press and elsewhere, I am firmly committed to staying in this race, to running this race to the end, and to beating Donald Trump,” Biden’s letter begins.
