The immigration crisis has become one of the central issues in the presidential election, with Vice President Kamala Harris attempting to distance herself from the Biden-Harris administration’s poor record on the border. But at tonight’s vice presidential debate, Harris’ running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, could be forced to defend his own radical record on immigration as well. As governor, Walz pushed for a slate of far-left immigration policies, advocating for Minnesota to become a sanctuary state, authorizing illegal immigrants to receive driver’s licenses and enroll in taxpayer-funded healthcare programs, and encouraging large-scale resettlement programs. Walz advocated for Minnesota to join the ranks of the other sanctuary states, which refuse to work with federal immigration authorities, during his 2018 gubernatorial campaign. “My position on Minnesota becoming a sanctuary state boils down to who has the responsibility for enforcing immigration laws,” Walz said during the campaign. “The role of law enforcement is to enforce state and local laws, not federal immigration laws, and I strongly believe that they should not do so.” Once in office, the Democrat signed far-left immigration proposals into law. Walz signed one bill in March 2023 that allowed approximately 81,000 illegal immigrants living in Minnesota to receive driver’s licenses, a measure that border security advocates with the Federation for American Immigration Reform say “promotes the normalization of illegal aliens and undermines the rule of law.” Walz also signed legislation as part of a budget agreement that allowed illegal immigrants to enroll in a taxpayer-funded healthcare program intended for low-income Minnesotans. That made Minnesota the only state in the nation besides California that allowed illegal immigrants to access publicly-funded healthcare programs. Walz also encouraged mass migrant resettlement in the state. An estimated 10 million illegal immigrants have come across the border since President Joe Biden took office. The Harris campaign has since attempted to portray the Democratic nominee as a “border state prosecutor” who is tough on immigration, even creating a campaign advertisement that featured former President Donald Trump’s border wall in the background.

The Biden-Harris administration’s “strategy of appeasement has failed,” House GOP leaders declared on Tuesday after Iran launched yet another attack on Israel as tensions continue to escalate across the region in the Middle East. House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) was joined by House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), House Majority Whip Tom Emmer (R-MN), and House Republican Conference Chairwoman Elise Stefanik (R-NY) in releasing a statement. “Iran is again brazenly attacking Israel with a barrage of rocket fire and an apparent coordinated terrorist attack,” the GOP lawmakers said. “The world is watching as Israeli families seek safety and shelter as waves of missile attacks light up the sky. We pray for their safety and urge the Biden-Harris Administration to deliver a strong message to the Iranian regime that this unjustified violence and terror must end. The strategy of appeasement has failed, and a policy of interdiction is not enough.” Iran fired about 180 ballistic missiles against Israel and, like when Tehran launched a similar attack in April with drones and missiles, the United States helped Israel shoot down the incoming missiles. The House Republicans leaders, following a video ad from GOP presidential nominee and former President Donald Trump criticizing the current administration for displaying “weakness” and warning of a potential World War III, urged Biden to get tougher on Iran. “American leadership has never been more important, and the world should know that the United States will continue to stand firmly with Israel as it fights for its very survival,” they said. “Our adversaries are carrying out increasingly dangerous attacks because of Biden and Harris’ weak and failed foreign policy. The world needs America to return to a maximum pressure campaign against Iran, and President Biden needs to make clear that there will be decisive economic and potential military ramifications for these actions.”

Country star Jason Aldean and others took time out to remember the victims killed in the Las Vegas shooting at a country music festival on the seventh anniversary of the tragedy. In a post on Tuesday on Instagram, Aldean shared an image of the original poster used to promote the Route 91 Harvest music festival in 2017 with Aldean, Eric Church, and Sam Hunt headlining the multi-day concerts. On the last night, Aldean was on stage when a gunman on opened fire on the crowd, killing nearly 60 people and wounding hundreds more. “7 years later and this day never gets easier,” the 47-year-old country singer wrote. “Sending love out to everybody in the Route 91 family today. We love yall!” The Las Vegas Review-Journal posted a picture on X of all those whose lives were lost in the deadly shooting. “Today marks seven years since the Route 91 Harvest festival shooting on Oct. 1, 2017. Forever in our hearts. #VegasStrong #LasVegas.” On the night of October 1, 2017, a 64-year-old gunman opened fire on the country music fans while Aldean was performing, The Daily Wire previously reported. Firing from a hotel room on the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino and using multiple rifles, the shooter fired hundreds of rounds for several minutes, resulting in 58 dead and nearly 500 wounded. It was the most deadly mass shooting in modern U.S. history. The shooter took his own life as security personnel and the SWAT team converged on his hotel room. He had carried 23 guns and thousands of rounds into his hotel room and had fitted twelve of the guns with “bump stocks,” a device which allows semi-automatic weapons to fire more rapidly. The shooter had no prior criminal record and appears to have purchased the weapons legally. In addition to the cache of weapons, he had set up security cameras in the hotel room and the hallway.
