State Department Plans To Create New Visa Program That Will Make Tourists Post $15,000 Bonds

This will give tourists an incentive not to overstay their visit. The State Department has announced a new program that will require some tourists from certain countries to post a bond up to $15,000 before entering the United States. The new bond program will be required for tourists who come from countries that have a high visa overstay rate. CBS reported more on the new visa bonds: The State Department is set to roll out a pilot program that may require foreign nationals from certain countries seeking business or tourism visas to post a bond of up to $15,000, according to a public notice set to be published Tuesday. The notice lays out the details of a 12-month “visa bond pilot program” that would allow consular officers to require visa bonds. Under the program, the bonds may be required for travelers from countries that the State Department says have high rates of visa overstays, or where screening and vetting information is considered deficient, according to the document. The notice does not specify the countries covered by the pilot program, but said the State Department will announce the list at least 15 days before it takes effect. The agency will also provide an explanation of why the bonds are required, according to the listing, which will be published in the Federal Register on Tuesday. The program will take effect 15 days after the notice is officially published and will run through August 2026, the document states. The program comes in response to an executive order issued by President Trump on the first day of his second term that sought to stem illegal immigration into the U.S., a major focus of the president’s policy agenda. The measure directed the treasury secretary, along with the secretaries of state and homeland security, to take action to implement a visa bond program. JUST IN: The State Department is considering requiring a $15,000 BOND for visa applicants coming to the U.S. So if you come and overstay your visa, you FORFEIT $15,000, get deported, and barred from re-entry for YEARS, possibly even permanently MUCH better! pic.twitter.com/6MvEMPU2tk — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) August 4, 2025 ABC News shared that the move by the State Department would mark the first time bonds were used in visa programs: The bond would not apply to citizens of countries enrolled in the Visa Waiver Program, which enables travel for business or tourism for up to 90 days. The majority of the 42 countries enrolled in the program are in Europe, with others in Asia, the Middle East and elsewhere. Visa bonds have been proposed in the past but have not been implemented. The State Department has traditionally discouraged the requirement because of the cumbersome process of posting and discharging a bond and because of a possible misperceptions by the public. However, the department said that previous view “is not supported by any recent examples or evidence, as visa bonds have not generally been required in any recent period.” VISA: Tourists from certain countrie like Chad, Eritrea, Haiti, Myanmar, Yemen, Burundi, Djibouti, and Togo have a tendency to overstay their visas. To discourage this Trump is requiring visa applicants from those countries to post $10K security bonds to ensure they leave on… pic.twitter.com/QelCvWFBuD — @amuse (@amuse) August 4, 2025

UPDATE: Suspect In Montana Shooting That Left 4 Dead Still On The Run

The manhunt for a Montana man who is accused of killing four people inside the Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, is still underway. Authorities are searching for former U.S. Army soldier Michael Brown after he allegedly opened fire inside the Owl Bar, resulting in the deaths of a bartender and three patrons. The shooting occurred on Friday, and as of Monday afternoon, Brown is still on the run. Fox News reported more details on the deadly shooting: Officials have identified the four victims who were shot and killed when an Army veteran allegedly opened fire at The Owl Bar in Anaconda, Montana, on Friday morning. At about 10:30 a.m. on Friday, 45-year-old Michael Brown allegedly entered The Owl Bar and opened fire, killing 59-year-old Daniel Edwin Baillie, 64-year-old Nancy Lauretta Kelley, 70-year-old David Allen Leach, and 74-year-old Tony Wayne Palm, all of whom were residents of Anaconda. Brown remains at large as search efforts continue in the Stumptown area, just west of Anaconda, where the suspect was last seen. Authorities released a photo of Brown on Saturday, showing him barefoot and shirtless, walking down a flight of steps. Authorities have released the names of the four victims. https://t.co/A7yUxBC6Zf pic.twitter.com/VwG9UCLqYL — ABC News (@ABC) August 4, 2025 MSN provided more details on the manhunt: On Saturday, investigators released a surveillance photo of Brown that Knudsen said was taken shortly after the shooting, in which the suspect appeared to have stripped off most of his clothes and was just in his underwear and his socks. “We have very good reason to believe that he is clothed. He does have shoes and he’s probably able to get around,” said Knudsen, adding that investigators suspect Brown stole a vehicle after the shooting that contained camping equipment and clothes. Man at large after allegedly killing 4 family members, leaving baby alive in Tennessee: Officials Brown lived next door to the bar and was not a stranger to the area and establishment, authorities said. Knudsen said investigators believe that Brown was familiar with most of the victims, including the bartender. “From what I gather, it sounds like he was a regular at this establishment. He literally lives next door,” Knudsen said. “I think it’s likely that he knew the bartender and these patrons, which even makes it more heinous.” “We do know the individual had access to firearms. We believe he is still probably armed and dangerous,” said Brown, adding that authorities believe Brown is still in the area. The manhunt for the suspect who killed four people at a Montana bar stretches into its fourth day. https://t.co/q3yfMAFJNY — NBC News (@NBCNews) August 4, 2025

WATCH: Passengers Flee As Train Catches Fire, Over A Dozen Injured

A fire erupted on a PATH train, which connects several New Jersey cities to Manhattan, causing passengers to flee from smoke-filled cars. The blaze started at approximately 6:20 a.m. under an eastbound train at the Newport Station. “A PATH train fire suspended service between New Jersey and New York City on Monday morning, with smoke filling Newport Station in Jersey City as passengers evacuated. Several people were being treated for smoke inhalation,” ABC News wrote. Commuters trying to get into New York City were turned away from the Newport station all morning long. Officials said normal PATH train service resumed by 11 a.m. after hours of disruptions. Down on the platform at Newport, there was no sign of any damage from the morning train fire. The NTSB is investigating the incident. The PATH trains conduct an average of about 165,000 passenger trips daily across the Hudson River from northern New Jersey into Manhattan. Citizen showed footage of PATH train passengers waiting after service was suspended Monday morning. Port Authority officials said the fire started around 6:15 a.m. under an eastbound train at the station. Smoke then filled the train and passengers had to be evacuated onto the platform. Video from inside the train showed passengers yelling for the doors to open as smoke filled the car. When the doors opened, flames could be seen coming from under the train and shooting up along the side of the platform. One witness said he saw people holding onto their chests and nearly a dozen getting oxygen. He said a couple were taken to the hospital after he saw them holding their chests. “I seen about 10 people getting oxygen outside the building, in the front,” Eric Robinson said. “It had to be a panic, because I’m surprised nobody got trampled, the amount of smoke they say was inside and everything.” “I hope they’re OK, that’s a scary thing to have to deal with in the morning. Getting to work and then you’re getting smoked in. I hope they get to the bottom of it,” said another person. Several people were treated for smoke inhalation, officials said.

Former College Football Coach Announces Run For Democrat-Held U.S. Senate Seat

Another former college football coach is looking to make his way to the U.S. Senate. Former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley has announced he’s running for the U.S. Senate in Georgia. If Dooley gets elected, he would be the second coach from the SEC to be elected to a U.S. Senate seat this decade. U.S. Senator Tommy Tuberville of Alabama was previously the head coach at Auburn. ABC News reported more on Dolley’s campaign: Derek Dooley, a former University of Tennessee football coach, is launching a bid Monday for the Senate in Georgia, entering a shifting political landscape as candidates vie for coveted endorsements and the chance to unseat Democratic Sen. Jon Ossoff. Dooley is leaning on his football background in his campaign launch, highlighting the fact that he is a political outsider and likening his views on sports to the world of politics. “The foundation of football is the American Spirit. You work hard, you play by the rules, you keep fighting when adversity hits — you have a fair shot at achieving your dreams,” Dooley’s campaign says in his release. “As a coach, I wanted that for all my players. As your next U.S. Senator, I want that for all Georgians — and all Americans.” Watch his first campaign video: Professional politicians always put themselves first. It’s time to put Georgia First. That’s why I’m running for Senate. pic.twitter.com/og7TdsPbQ9 — Derek Dooley (@DerekDooleyGA) August 4, 2025 ESPN reported Dooley has already taken a few shots at current U.S. Senator from Georgia Jon Ossoff: Former University of Tennessee football coach Derek Dooley on Monday announced his 2026 Republican bid for the U.S. Senate in Georgia against Democratic incumbent Jon Ossoff. The 57-year-old Dooley is backed by Gov. Brian Kemp and has been teasing a bid since June. Kemp turned to Dooley after deciding not to run for the seat himself. Georgia Republicans are looking to topple Ossoff, considered the Senate’s most vulnerable Democratic incumbent seeking reelection next year. “Professional politicians like Jon Ossoff are the problem,” Dooley said in a two-minute launch video. “Lawlessness, open season on the border, inflation everywhere, woke stuff, that’s what they represent. We need new leadership in Georgia. That’s why I’m running for Senate.” Georgia Gov. Kemp and Trump met and said they would try to agree on a preferred candidate. Anyone anointed by both would be stamped as the Republican front-runner. Kemp told Collins and others on July 24 that he would support Dooley. But Trump isn’t ready to endorse yet, and Dooley is moving forward without Trump’s blessing, an indication the joint effort may be faltering. Three Venezuelan Migrants Released Into United States By Biden Admin Charged With Murder

Three Venezuelan nationals released into the United States by the Biden administration have been charged in connection with a murder in Texas. The three men were each charged with capital murder and are believed to have shot and killed a 48-year-old man at a Motel 6 in Garland, Texas. Two of the three men, Jose Trivino-Cruz and Jesus Bellorin-Guzman, were released into the United States by the Biden administration through the Customs and Border Patrol One app, an online platform that allowed migrants to remotely schedule asylum appointments and expedited the entry of thousands of migrants into the United States. The third Venezuelan national charged in connection with the murder, named Yosguar Aponte-Jimenez, entered the United States illegally in 2023 before ultimately being released into the country by the Biden administration. Two of the men are also believed to have held a woman at gunpoint at a different hotel that same day, allegedly robbing and sexually assaulting her. “Three depraved criminal illegal aliens from Venezuela were released into the U.S. under the Biden administration and are now facing capital murder and robbery charges for shooting and killing a man at a motel in Dallas County, Texas,” Tricia McLaughlin, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Assistant Secretary, charged. “Thanks to the brave men and women of ICE law enforcement, these criminal illegal aliens’ crime spree is OVER.” “These vicious criminals have no place in the U.S. ICE has lodged a detainer to ensure they are removed from our country after they face justice for their heinous crimes,” McLaughlin went on to add. Both Jimenez and Trivino-Cruz are also believed to be involved in additional crimes. DHS says that Jimenez admitted to more than 25 robberies, while the federal agency says that Trivino-Cruz, who has been charged with aggravated robbery and indecent assault, confessed to perpetrating two robberies that same day. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has placed a detainer request on the three Venezuelan nationals and is expected to gain custody of the men.
