Unsung Benefit of Tough Border Policy on Full Display: Number of US-Bound Migrants Plummets to Levels Not Seen in Years

The number of migrants traversing Panama's perilous Darién Gap fell in February to its lowest number since November 2020. "The decline is the latest sign that fewer migrants from South America are risking the treacherous, 2,600-mile journey north to the U.S. border in the early days of President [Donald] Trump's...

BREAKING: Democrat Congressman Passes Away At 77

Rep. Raúl Grijalva (D-AZ) has passed away after a cancer battle. He was 77. “Rep. Grijalva fought a long and brave battle. He passed away this morning due to complications of his cancer treatments,” his office said in a statement. A statement from the Office of Raúl M. Grijalva. pic.twitter.com/DJkWNfwHfn — Raul M. Grijalva (@RepRaulGrijalva) March 13, 2025 A closer look: Per 12 News: Democratic Congressman Raul Grijalva died March 13 in Tucson after being diagnosed with lung cancer in April 2024, the congressman’s office said. He was 77 years old. Grijalva ran for and won a 12th term in Congress in November. One month before the election, he vowed that if he won, he would be serving his final term. The longest-serving member of Arizona’s congressional delegation had cast just a handful of votes in 2025. Grijalva was absent for much of 2024, as well. “Rep. Grijalva’s kind and humble nature was known to many. He was approachable by all because he believed people should be treated as equals,” Grijalva’s congressional staff said in a prepared statement. “He loved to give gifts, blare music in his office, and get to know people for who they are. The Congressman cared deeply for and was proud of his staff, the dedicated public servants who spent 22 years fighting alongside him for the people of Southern Arizona. Together, we helped families get back on their feet and remained a source of help and hope when people had nowhere else to turn. We are heartbroken in the face of this news but determined to carry on his legacy.” BREAKING: Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) has died, per an official statement from his office. Condolences to Mr. Grijalva's family and loved ones. May he rest in peace. pic.twitter.com/uXHip0wg9B — Charlie Kirk (@charliekirk11) March 13, 2025 Just in: Arizona Democrat Congressman Raul Grijalva has passed away. He was 77 years old. He was battling cancer at the time. pic.twitter.com/KsUmK2KYV9 — The Calvin Coolidge Project (@TheCalvinCooli1) March 13, 2025 NBC News reports: Grijalva, who served in the House for more than 20 years, was first elected to Congress in 2002. During that time he served as chair of the House Natural Resources Committee, co-chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and, most recently, as the top Democrat on the House Natural Resources Committee. “He was steadfast in his commitment to produce lasting change through environmental policies — as he would say, ‘it’s for the babies.’ He led the Natural Resources Committee without fear of repercussion, but with an urgency of the consequences of inaction,” his staff said in a statement. Grijalva began his career in public service as a community organizer in Tucson, Ariz. He chaired the Tucson Unified School District Governing Board for six years before serving on the Pima County Board of Supervisors for more than a decade.

Roast Comedian To Host Golden Globes Again

Emmy-nominated roast comedian Nikki Glaser will once again host the Golden Globes awards show in January 2026 after she hosted this year’s show, receiving very positive reviews. “Hosting the Golden Globes this year was without a doubt the most fun I have ever had in my career,” Glaser said in a statement on Thursday to The Hollywood Reporter following the announcement from CBS and the Golden Globes. “I can’t wait to do it again, and this time in front of the team from ‘The White Lotus,’ who will finally recognize my talent and cast me in season four as a Scandinavian Pilates instructor with a shadowy past,” she added. President of the Golden Globes, Helen Hoehne, added that, “Nikki Glaser brought a refreshing spark and fearless wit to the Golden Globes stage this year. Her sharp humor and bold presence set the tone for an unforgettable night, making the ceremony feel vibrant and most of all fun.” Despite Glaser’s praise as host, the Golden Globes actually saw a slight drop in ratings from the previous year, Variety reported. Nielsen showed a dip of two percent in the ratings for the awards show, with 9.3 million viewers, compared to the average of 9.4 million viewers the Golden Globes brought in 2024. Last year’s show was up 51 percent from when the show aired on NBC in 2023, when it drew an average of 6.25 million viewers — marking the second-smallest audience in the network’s 28 years of broadcasting the awards show, per Nielsen.  To put this year’s numbers in context, before the pandemic, the Globes averaged nearly 20 million viewers between 2008-2019, the LA Times noted. At this year’s show, Glaser took a page out of long-time Golden Globe’s host Ricky Gervais manual when she kicked off the night by roasting celebrities over President Donald Trump’s re-election. In a clip posted on X, the comedian/host called out the biggest members of Hollywood for not being persuasive enough to convince people who to vote for in the 2024 election, as the majority of stars had been very vocal supporters of the Democratic presidential nominee and former Vice President Kamala Harris. “I am not here to roast you tonight,” Glaser told the crowd after pointing out that she’s known for being a comedian on roasts. “I want you to know that. How could I really. You are all so famous. So talented.” “So powerful,” she added. “I mean you could really do anything. I mean except tell the country who to vote for. But it’s okay, you’ll get them next time. If there is one. I’m scared.” Ahead of the award night, the comedian hinted at what her monologue would be about — and took the opportunity to warn viewers that she wasn’t going to be just like Gervais, as previously reported. In January 2020, Gervais hosted the Golden Globes and famously torched the stars, telling them, “So, if you do win an award tonight, don’t use it as a platform to make a political speech. You’re in no position to lecture the public about anything. You know nothing about the real world.” Related: Golden Globes Host Roasts Stars For Trump Re-Election

Democrat Congressman Raul Grijalva Dies Of Cancer

Rep. Raul Grijalva (D-AZ) passed away on Thursday after losing the battle to cancer, his office said in a statement. He was 77 years old. Grijalva, who served in Arizona’s 7th Congressional District, died due to “complications of his cancer treatments,” his office said. His office highlighted his “kind and humble nature” while stating that he “cared deeply for and was proud of his staff.” Serving in United States Congress for more than 20 years, Grijalva “pushed for new public parks, childcare centers, health care clinics, local businesses, and affordable housing,” his office said. One of his top passions was preserving the planet, leading him to serve on the Natural Resources Committee. “Together, we helped families get back on their feet and remained a source of help and hope when people had nowhere else to turn,” his office said. “We are heartbroken in the face of this news but determined to carry on his legacy. While the special election is being carried out, our office will continue to provide constituent services.” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) responded to the news by posting on X: “A genuinely devastating loss. Raúl Grijalva stood as one of the biggest champions for working people in all of Congress.” “His leadership was singular,” she continued. “He mentored generously and was an incredible friend. I will always be grateful for his lifelong courage and commitment.” Sen. Ed Markey (D-MA) said: “I am heartbroken by the news of Congressman Raúl Grijalva’s passing.” “For climate justice, economic justice, health justice—Raúl fought fearlessly for change,” he said. “We served a decade together on the Natural Resources Committee, and I will forever be grateful for his leadership and partnership.” Sen. John Curtis (R-UT) added: “I’m deeply saddened to hear of the passing of my friend and former colleague, Rep. Raúl Grijalva.” “We served together on the Natural Resources Committee, and though we often came from different perspectives, I always admired his dedication to public service and his love for our national parks and public lands,” Curtis added. “My prayers are with his family, loved ones, and all those mourning his loss.”
