watchOS 11’s new Translate app is a game-changer for Apple Watch

Unlike watchOS 10, watchOS 11 is a modest update for Apple Watch users. Even though it focuses more on health and wellness, this upcoming software won't revolutionize the Apple Watch experience. For example, a new Vitals app gives users a way to quickly view these key health metrics and gain better context regarding their health. Training Load measures how the intensity and duration of workouts impact a user’s body over time. Training load helps users understand the strain on their body from workouts over the last seven days compared to the last 28 days. For those tired of completing impossible goals, Apple even lets users customize their Activity Rings with watchOS 11. This allows them to plan rest days and even different goals during the week. Apple has also introduced the Translate app for the Apple Watch with watchOS 11. First available with iOS 14, Apple has been expanding the apps to new platforms, as the Calculator app has also been released for iPad with iPadOS 18. Image source: José Adorno for BGR At first, I thought Apple's addition of the Translate app would be insignificant on the Apple Watch platform, but I was mistaken. With over 20 languages available, it's been really helpful in my recent trips, as it helps me communicate with people even if I don't speak their language. The Translate app is very simple. You select the language you speak and the one you need to translate. Very quickly, the Apple Watch finishes the translation, and you can tap a speaker button to hear what you said in another language. Thanks to the Apple Watch Ultra speakers, it's easy for the other person to understand what's been said and then wait for them to answer me. While the Apple Watch app needs a few taps and is not as seamless as an OpenAI or Google offering, it is the best and most private way to get translations in real time without data going elsewhere. watchOS 11 is currently available in beta, and the official version is expected to be released later this fall when Apple Watch Series 6 or newer will receive this update. You can learn more about it below. Pre-Roman Graves Covered With Amphorae and Pompeii Era Fields Uncovered

Recent modernization work on the railway line in Pompeii and the construction of an underground parking lot have unearthed a pre-Roman necropolis, spanning from the 3rd to the 1st century BC, with 35 graves found so far. These atypical burials are in the form of simple pit inhumations, some covered with North African amphoras arranged in a striking pattern of seven. To add to this, excavations have also revealed extensive, perfectly preserved plowed fields under the thick layer of ash from the great Vesuvius eruption of 79 AD. A Clearer Picture: Analysis of Grave Goods The pre-Roman era occupation graves feature a few grave goods like perfume bottles and coins, along with skeletal remains, which are in excellent condition thanks to being submerged in groundwater, kickstarting a paleo-anthropological research campaign on the skeletal remains. The discovery site is about 400 meters east of the Porta Sarno in the Pompeii Archaeological Park, and it's brought to light occupation levels that predate Roman colonization, reports a press release by Soprintendenza Archeologia Belle Arti e Paesaggio per L’area Metropolitana di Napoli. Crock Pot Apple Dump Cake

Crock Pot Apple Dump Cake

Crock Pot Apple Dump Cake is an easy 3-ingredient dessert made with apple cinnamon muffin mix, apple pie filling and melted butter. Toss it all in and let the slow cooker do the work! A 3-INGREDIENT APPLE DESSERT This apple dump cake is the perfect autumn treat. Flavors of cinnamon and spiced apples just scream “FALL!” It’s a simple weeknight dessert that is sure to be the perfect ending to any meal! Plus, using the Crock Pot makes this a no brainer recipe- you just dump it all in the Slow Cooker and let it work its magic. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS: What is a dump cake? Dump cakes may not have the prettiest name but they get it from the idea of dumping all the ingredients in and then letting it bake. In this case, we’re baking in a crock pot. They are some of the simplest but most scrumptious desserts you can make. Perfect for the holidays when oven space is at a premium! What if I can’t find the muffin mix? I used Martha White’s muffin mix. Jiffy also makes an apple cinnamon muffin mix and I am sure there are other brands that do as well. You need about 14 ounces (it’s okay if it is a little less or a little more) Also, this can be made with a boxed cake mix instead of the packs of muffin mix. I think a spice cake mix would work perfectly. Other cakes mixes could be used, but I think a spiced cake mix would pair perfectly here. How do you know when the cake is done? You’ll see the melted butter being absorbed into the powdery cake mix and then the cake mix will no longer be in a powder form any more, it will look like cake. If you can stick a toothpick in it or a fork, like you do with a cake baked in a traditional cake pan, it’ll come out with just some crumbs, or nothing at all and it will be baked through. If it comes out with runny batter on it, it needs a bit more time. Can I mix the butter and muffin mix together first? Yes. It’s a matter of personal preference. It’s totally fine if you want to separately stir the butter in with the dry cake or muffin mix first, then sprinkle it on top of the apple filling. Whatever you prefer to do should work. This is such a forgiving recipe, you really can’t go wrong. Can I add anything else to this Crock Pot Apple Cake? Sure thing. I think adding about a teaspoon or so of ground cinnamon to the apple pie filling would really enhance the flavor. I also think you can add some dried cranberries (Craisins) to the filling for a fun and festive twist or even some chopped pecans or walnuts added would add a nice crunch. Can I make this in the oven instead? Yep! I’d dump it all in a greased 9×13-inch baking dish and bake at 350 for 40-50 minutes or so. How do you store leftovers? Leftover Apple Dump Cake should be stored in an airtight container and can be kept in the fridge for up to 4 days. You can freeze leftovers for up to 3 months in a freezer safe container. INGREDIENTS NEEDED: (SEE RECIPE CARD BELOW FOR THE FULL RECIPE) apple cinnamon muffin mix– you could also use Apple Cider muffin mix or cake mix options suggested above in the Frequently Asked Question section. apple pie filling– use your favorite store bought pie filling or make your own. You can use sugar free options as well. butter – It needs to be real butter and not margarine. if using unsalted butter, add a pinch of salt. That little bit of salts helps to offset the overall sweetness of this dessert. HOW TO MAKE CROCK POT APPLE DUMP CAKE: Lightly spray a 4-6 quart slow cooker (crock pot) with no-stick cooking spray. Pour in two cans of apple pie filling. Evenly sprinkle two packets of muffin mix on top of the apple pie filling. Make sure it is spread out and not too thick in any area. Pour melted butter over entire muffin mix. Note: the butter won’t cover all the dry muffin mix. You can also just slice the butter and evenly place it all over the muffin mix. Cover and cook on low for 3-5 hours. It took closer to 5 hours in my slow cooker. You want the top to be cooked thoroughly and the apple pie filling should be bubbling up from underneath. Serve warm with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream! CRAVING MORE RECIPES? ‘Halloween’ And ‘Roots’ Actor Charles Cyphers Dies At 85

Charles Cyphers died on August 4 at the age of 85. His death follows a brief illness. Cyphers was known for his role as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in ‘Halloween’ and had roles in ‘Roots,’ ‘Wonder Woman,’ ‘ER,’ and more.   On Sunday, August 4, Charles Cyphers passed away. He was 85 years old when he died in Tucson, Arizona. His cause of death follows a brief illness. His manager of 20 years, Chris Roe, announced the actor’s passing, remembering him as both a dear client and friend. In his career spanning nearly five decades, Cyphers became particularly famous for working alongside director John Carpenter. That gave him a front-row seat to give a memorable performance as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in Carpenter’s 1978 Halloween horror film, the start of a franchise that’s still going to date. Television / Courtesy: Everett Collection “Charles was an incredibly lovable and sensitive man,” Roe said of Cyphers in a statement. “He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client of many years who will be dearly missed.” RELATED: In Memoriam — All The People We Lost In 2023 Charles Cyphers was born on July 28, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York. He began his acting career in 1972, though his first feature film appearance came two years later in Truck Turner. As for his collaboration with John Carpenter, that kicked off in his 1976 action-thriller film Assault on Precinct 13. Something for everyone Charles Cyphers has passed away. He was an early and frequent collaborator with me on my early movies. A kind man, he was a friend. I shall miss him. — John Carpenter (@TheHorrorMaster) August 6, 2024 Cyphers’s Halloween character enjoyed a kinder fate than his Truck Turner role, sticking with the horror franchise through Halloween II and, most recently, 2021’s Halloween Kills. 2007’s Methodic sees Cyphers taking up a role that pays homage to his Halloween character. Though action, thrillers, and horrors would define much of Cyphers’s filmography, there was always something for everyone. His other credits include Elvis (1979), The Fog (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Major League (1989), and Critical Mass (2001), among others. A kind man, he was a friend. I shall miss him.” Nancy Kyes, his co-star from Assault on Precinct 13, Halloween, and The Fog, similarly said, “My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed.” Sheriff Brackett / YouTube screenshot RELATED: The Thrilling And Chilling Trailer For ‘Halloween Ends’ Is Finally Here Click for next Article The post ‘Halloween’ And ‘Roots’ Actor Charles Cyphers Dies At 85 appeared first on DoYouRemember? - The Home of Nostalgia.
