'60 Minutes' omits critical details about 'misinformation expert' otherwise painted as victimized researcher

CBS News' "60 Minutes" recently boosted the grievances of activists who fancy themselves online narrative curators‚ including so-called "misinformation expert" Kate Starbird‚ the cofounder of the University of Washington's Center for an Informed Public. The liberal news network framed Starbird as a defender of truth and a victim of conservative criticism but failed to mention critical biographic information about the so-called expert‚ namely that she's a partisan who has taken money from the Biden administration and is named as a defendant in an ongoing legal battle over censorship. The beleaguered academic "60 Minutes" introduced Starbird as "a professor at the University of Washington‚ a former professional basketball player‚ and a leader of a misinformation research group created ahead of the 2020 election." The dribbling academic complained to host Lesley Stahl that X has not responded to or heeded more than 30% of her censorial outfit's suggestions — "and on the majority of those‚ they put labels." Additionally‚ she claimed that conservatives disproportionately push "misinformation" online‚ insinuating further that they have a stake in combating her fact-checking efforts and have sought to intimidate both her and her team. "This campaign against you is meant to discredit you so we won't believe you‚" said Stahl. "Absolutely. And it's interesting that the people that pushed voter fraud lies are some of the same people that are trying to discredit researchers that are trying to understand the problem‚" said Starbird. "60 Minutes" leaned on Starbird's claims in the episode to later suggest that while conservatives bemoan censorship of speech online‚ they simultaneously seek to "chill the research" of benevolent academics such as Starbird. X‚ formerly Twitter‚ only responded to 30% of the notes from researchers flagging misinformation in posts‚ says Kate Starbird‚ the leader of a misinformation research group. https://t.co/yCfxH64hAU — (@) The censorious partisan The liberal news outfit neglected to mention that Starbird is a radical partisan‚ a Biden donor‚ and a recipient of Biden administration grants who has collaborated with the Biden Department of Homeland Security on efforts to shut down speech deemed undesirable by the powers that be. The Daily Caller highlighted that Starbird ran lead on a narrative-curing project that secured $2.25 million from the National Science Foundation in August 2021. The stated purpose of the initiative was to "study ways to apply collaborative‚ rapid-response research to mitigate online disinformation." Upon receipt of the grant‚ Starbird said in a statement‚ "Working to advance scientific understanding of online disinformation‚ this research will develop and evaluate 'rapid response' methods for studying and communicating about disinformation at a sophistication and pace on par with the dynamic and interdisciplinary nature of the challenge." Starbird was named as a defendant in a lawsuit filed last year by Jim Hoft of the Gateway Pundit and Jill Hines‚ codirector of the conservative Health Freedom Louisiana group‚ whose criticism of mask wearing was suppressed on Facebook. Starbird is also referenced in Murthy v. Missouri‚ the case concerning the Biden administration's efforts to have Americans censored online now before the U.S. Supreme Court. Hoft and Hines' complaint alleged that Starbird and other personnel from her organization were involved in "probably the largest mass-surveillance and mass-censorship program in American history — the so-called 'Election Integrity Partnership' and 'Virality Project.'" The complaint further claimed that Starbird's UW lab secured the aforementioned $2.25 million grant "just months after Starbird's lab helped censor the Biden Administration's political adversary during the 2020 election." Starbird served as a member of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency Cybersecurity Advisory Committee. She apparently also ran lead on the CISA task force "Protecting Critical Infrastructure from Misinformation and Disinformation." CISA‚ a component of the Department of Homeland Security‚ is accused along with other prongs of the Biden administration in Murthy v. Missouri of violating Americans' First Amendment rights online. Last year‚ Mike Benz‚ executive director of the Foundation for Freedom Online‚ shared a video from Starbird detailing how to kill or curate narratives on Twitter. — (@) In her interview with "60 Minutes‚" Starbird regurgitated many of the talking points advanced by the Biden administration in its fight to keep leaning on social media companies to censor dissenting voices online. "It's interesting that the people that pushed voter fraud lies are some of the same people that are trying to discredit researchers that are trying to understand the problem‚" said Starbird. The bespectacled researcher is not only sympathetic to the Democratic administration's clampdown on undesirable speech online but also a fan of the man in the White House. The Daily Caller noted that Starbird donated to then-candidate Joe Biden's presidential campaign in 2020. Extra to signing checks for the Biden campaign and the Biden Victory Fund‚ Starbird has poured cash into ActBlue and other leftist causes‚ according to Federal Election Commission records. The Caller indicated that "60 Minutes" did not respond to requests for comment. Sen. Eric Schmitt (R-Mo.) responded to Starbird's interview‚ writing‚ "Missouri v. Biden exposed this. 'Misinformation Researchers' are part of the Vast Censorship Enterprise. No tax dollars to these wannabe authoritarians." Trump advisor Stephen Miller's America First Legal noted‚ "Irony Alert: CBS is guilty of rank disinformation in this interview. They use Kate Starbird as their 'expert' ... but they don't tell you that Starbird is the defendant in our lawsuit alleging a vast scheme to silence speech and deprive Americans of their fundamental civil rights." Actor Ryan Phillippe says 'firm and fervent belief in God' helped him shed addiction and depression

Actor Ryan Phillippe said he developed a strong sense of faith and a desire to develop a relationship with God after filming his latest movie‚ in which he played a missionary. After working on the film "Prey‚" where Phillippe played a Christian missionary who faces a life-or-death situation in South Africa‚ he became inquisitive about some of the film's themes."I have a firm and fervent belief in God and that things happen for a reason and that we should put positive energies out into the world and treat people with respect and spread as much love and light as we can to offset the darkness that we see around us everywhere."These themes were reflected in the movie‚ which Phillippe said featured a "slight theological thread" of questioning God and "wondering why things happen to certain people.""They’re just good people trying to do a good thing in Africa in these villages and help others. Then something like this befalls them‚" Phillippe explained‚ according to the Boston Herald. "It makes them question. ‘What’s going on here? Is it worth being good? Who’s looking out for me?’ These aspects — Man’s search for meaning or search for God — really appealed to me."Phillippe admitted in an interview with Fox News that he ended up spending "a lot of time" in prayer and study‚ calling it the "most important thing" a person can spend their time doing."It's become a very‚ very important part of my life."Watch the latest video at foxnews.comHis prayer‚ along with a newly strengthened belief in God‚ is what Phillippe said got him out of a dark place he found himself in after the film's production ended."It was right after filming it where I went on this spiritual journey where I started going really deep inside‚" he remembered. "I got back into reading the Bible and various other religious tomes‚ but I found myself drawn to this notion of spirituality." Along with saying that spirituality seemed to come with age‚ the actor revealed that success and money no longer brought him pleasure or satisfaction."You look for more‚" he said. "I wanted to have a relationship and understanding with God‚ and I was craving that."Phillippe has publicly discussed his depression since 2015‚ calling it a "huge obstacle" since he was a child."I'm just innately kind of a sad person‚" he described at the time. "I see it in my daughter‚ she has it‚ and I wish to hell she didn't. It's just some people do have this pervading sort of sadness or they're so analytical that they can kind of take the fun out of things because they think too much."However‚ since his prayer and spirituality became a larger part of his life‚ Phillippe says he has shed those feelings."Since I started that journey‚ I have not been more at peace. My depression is gone‚ I shedded addictions so I'm a big proponent for people going inward and trying to understand those aspects of life."Like Blaze News? 'Oppressive child labor': DOL fines manufacturer for illegally employing migrant children to 'operate dangerous machinery'

The United States Department of Labor imposed nearly $2 million in fines against a Tennessee manufacturer for "employing children to operate dangerous machinery" and "requiring them to work more hours than the law allows‚" a Monday press release from the agency revealed.A Labor Department investigation found 10 children subjected to "oppressive child labor" at a Tuff Torq factory in Morristown. The manufacturer produces outdoor power equipment components for several companies‚ including John Deere‚ Toro‚ and Yamaha. The children working at the facility were immigrants as young as 14 years old‚ according to NBC News.According to the DOL's Wage and Hour Division‚ the children worked "dangerous" positions at the facility. "Division investigators began its probe months ago but obtained clear evidence of the unlawful conduct on Jan. 23‚ 2024‚ when they returned to the Tuff Torq facility and observed a child operating a power-driven hoisting apparatus‚ an occupation prohibited for workers under the age of 18‚" the department's press release read. "As a result‚ the department objected to the shipment of goods from the Morristown facility‚ citing the Fair Labor Standards Act's 'hot goods' provision‚ which prevents employers from shipping goods produced by oppressive child labor."Tuff Torq was ordered to pay a $296‚951 civil penalty and "set aside $1.5 million as disgorgement of 30 days' profits related to its use of child labor.""The proceeds paid by Tuff Torq will be used for the benefit of the children employed illegally‚" the DOL stated. In addition to paying the civil fine‚ the manufacturer has also agreed to provide staff training‚ establish a child labor tip line‚ permit "unannounced and warrantless searches" for three years‚ and avoid using staffing agencies with child labor violations.Wage and Hour Division administrator Jessica Looman declared‚ "Even one child working in a dangerous environment is too many.""Over the past year‚ we have seen an alarming increase in child labor violations‚ and these violations put children in harm's way. With this agreement‚ we are ensuring Tuff Torq takes immediate and significant steps to stop the illegal employment of children. When employers fail to meet their obligations‚ we will act swiftly to hold them accountable and protect children‚" she stated.Solicitor of Labor Seema Nanda believes the DOL's agreement with Tuff Torq will hold the manufacturer accountable and discourage future child labor violations."This agreement puts in practice what we have long been saying. The department will not tolerate companies profiting on the backs of children employed unlawfully in dangerous occupations. Tuff Torq has agreed to disgorge profits‚ which will go to the benefit of the children. This sends a clear message: putting children in harm's way in the workplace is not only illegal‚ but also comes with significant financial consequences‚" Nanda said.Ryan Pott‚ Tuff Torq's legal representative‚ stated that the children who were illegally working at the facility were temporary hires not directly employed by the manufacturer‚ NBC News reported. According to the company‚ the children provided falsified identification to a third-party staffing agency.Tuff Torq is "transitioning" away from partnering with the staffing company‚ Pott explained."Tuff Torq is dedicated to ensuring that their products and services are produced under ethical conditions‚ with a strong emphasis on fair labor practices‚ and Tuff Torq is further strengthening our relevant training and compliance programs‚" Pott told NBC News. "We are also actively engaging with our suppliers to reinforce our expectations regarding ethical labor practices and collaborate with them on implementing our updated policies."The DOL investigated 955 child labor violation cases involving 5‚792 children in fiscal year 2023. Grandmother protecting herself and her 4-year-old grandson shoots auto theft suspect who broke into her home‚ cops say

A New Mexico grandmother protecting herself and her 4-year-old grandson shot an auto theft suspect who broke into her home Friday night. What are the details?Albuquerque police said they tried to pull over a stolen truck near Central and Cypress around 8 p.m. and used spike strips to flatten the tires‚ the Albuquerque Journal reported‚ citing a criminal complaint filed in Metropolitan Court. Police told the paper the truck was “on its rims” and crashed into a curb near Candelaria and Rio Grande NW.The driver ran into the neighborhood‚ and police made a perimeter to search the area‚ the Journal said.A woman who was with her 4-year-old grandson told police she heard someone inside her home‚ the paper said‚ adding that she confronted the male who “appeared to be angry” and told her he “just needed her keys.”The woman told police she thought about arming herself but “did not know if she had time to use the weapon” if the intruder also had a gun‚ the paper reported‚ citing the complaint. The woman told police she took the intruder to a “bowl of keys” in the kitchen‚ and the male took several keys and left‚ the Journal reported.Police said the woman told them she then grabbed a gun and took her grandchild into a bedroom — but she said she discovered the intruder back in her hallway “demanding more keys‚" the paper said. With that‚ the woman told police she pointed the gun at the intruder and “told him to get out” — but he began approaching her instead‚ the Journal said‚ citing the complaint. The woman told police she was scared “he would kill her or her grandchild‚” and she shot him once‚ the paper reported. The woman told police the intruder fell to the ground and began “crawling through the halls asking for water‚” the Journal said‚ adding that the woman said she “put pressure on his wound until police arrived.”The woman called 911 around 9:30 p.m.‚ arriving officers detained the burglar — identified as 32-year-old Joseph Rivera — at the home‚ and the woman gave police the gun she used to shoot him‚ the paper said.Police told the Journal that Rivera is charged with burglary‚ attempted burglary‚ and auto theft‚ and will be booked into jail after he's released from the hospital.More from the paper:Rivera is currently on pretrial release in a July 2023 case in which he was found in a stolen vehicle with fentanyl‚ cocaine and heroin on him‚ according to court records. At the time‚ Rivera told police that “his personal life and caring for his family has been incredibly difficult” as he struggled with undiagnosed mental health issues and addiction. A warrant was issued in that case when he didn’t show up for a court hearing in October.Like Blaze News? Leftist academics circle the wagons after another Harvard race obsessive is called out for plagiarism

Another race obsessive on the faculty at Harvard University was outed as a likely plagiarist last week. Rather than acknowledge that assistant sociology professor Christina Cross may have wrongfully passed off the work of others as her own or that Harvard might be intellectually bankrupt‚ Cross' colleagues have cried racism and circled the wagons. Quick background Cross‚ an assistant professor of sociology and a faculty affiliate of the Department of African and African American Studies at Harvard University‚ is the latest race obsessive at Harvard University exposed as a potential plagiarist. Claudine Gay resigned her post in disgrace on Jan. 2 after nearly 50 plagiarism complaints were filed against her‚ implicating nearly half of her published works along with her doctoral thesis. Later that same month‚ affirmative action expert Sherri Ann Charleston‚ the university's chief DEI officer‚ was slapped with a complaint identifying 40 examples of alleged plagiarism in two of her academic works. In February‚ Harvard Extension School administrator Shirley R. Greene was accused of 42 instances of plagiarism in her 2008 University of Michigan dissertation. Blaze News previously reported that a complaint was filed this month with Harvard's office of research integrity against Cross‚ claiming her work contains multiple instances of plagiarism‚ including "verbatim plagiarism‚ mosaic plagiarism‚ uncited paraphrasing‚ and uncited quotations from other sources." Manhattan Institute fellow Christopher Rufo detailed the complaint for City Journal‚ noting Cross has been accused of appropriating "an entire paragraph nearly verbatim from a paper by Stacey Bosick and Paula Fomby — the latter of whom was her dissertation adviser — without citing the source or placing verbatim language in quotations" in her 2019 dissertation. Cross also allegedly plagiarized another full paragraph from Bosick and Fomby elsewhere in the paper as well as the ideas of others without attribution. 'Professors for plagiarism!' Fomby‚ who served on Cross' dissertation committee‚ along with dozens of sociologists from various academic institutions‚ released a statement Thursday‚ expressing deep concern "about this false allegation of research miscondudct [sic]." "It's not simply that Dr. Cross's writings do not constitute plagiarism‚" continued the statement. "Rather‚ her description of a large public dataset in this standardized way is simply good research practice - helping to ensure replicability and transparency." The Manhattan Institute fellow replied‚ "Professors for plagiarism!" @pamela_herd Professors for plagiarism! — (@) On Monday‚ Harvard's Department of Sociology similarly released a statement defending Cross. "We are deeply disturbed by the false allegations of plagiarism made against our colleague Christina Cross. The allegations are absurd‚" said the statement. "The claim that may sound most serious involves a description of a widely used dataset‚ in which Dr. Cross describes its features in the terms used by the people who assembled it – in the most accurate terms possible." The sociology department suggested further that Cross' race may have been a motivating factor behind the complaint. "We find these bogus claims to be particularly troubling in the context of a series of attacks on Black women in academia with the clear subtext that they have no place in our universities‚" continued the statement. "We are fortunate to have [Cross] on our faculty‚ and she has our full and unalloyed support." The department appears to have embraced the desperate line of defense appealed to on exit by Claudine Gay and by other leftists since‚ namely that the effort to combat plagiarism is "fueled by racial animus." Blaze News previously noted that Heba Gowayed‚ a leftist associate professor of sociology at CUNY Hunter College‚ similarly suggested that Cross' scholarship had been reviewed "solely because she's Black." Gowayed added‚ "It's KKK level s**t." Georgetown University professor Don Moynihan claimed that the scrutinies of Cross and other academics by Rufo and others "are examples of backlash‚ of a post George Floyd Politics." Marcy Carlson‚ a sociology professor at the University of Wisconsin-Madison‚ defended Cross and amplified Moynihan's attempt at narrative curation‚ writing‚ "Describing a well-known national public data set in similar words to another paper is not plagiarism!" Rufo responded‚ "They are openly defending the violation of their own written policies." University of Wisconsin professor argues that lifting entire passages verbatim from another paper \u201cis not plagiarism.\u201d They are openly defending the violation of their own written policies. — (@) The Journal of Marriage and Family‚ an academic journal published by the National Council of Family Relations‚ also leaned into the racial framing of the plagiarism complaint against Cross‚ tweeting‚ "We condemn the contemptible attacks aimed at undermining and threatening scholars focused on race and racism‚ in particular Black women academics. We support and stand with our valued colleague Dr. Cross." Cross happens to be a member of the journal's editorial board. Rufo was ready with another pointed response: "Academic journal openly defends plagiarism‚ arguing that exposing academic misconduct by 'Black women' is equivalent to 'threatening scholars focused on race.' They have replaced integrity with intersectionality. The standards are gone." Rufo also refuted the racism suggestion‚ tweeting‚ "For the record‚ I have asked my source to also search the academic work of white scholars in grievance departments at Harvard and‚ thus far‚ they have not turned up plagiarism." "This is not a large-scale study‚ but it's certainly plausible that lower academic standards for 'diversity and inclusion' hires could be correlated with a disparity in plagiarism and other forms of academic incompetence. This is‚ in one way‚ definitional to DEI hiring‚" added Rufo. While the DEI critic went scorched-earth on those so-called scholars bending over backward to defend possible plagiarism‚ Cross thanked them. Cross tweeted Monday‚ "Thank you‚ Dear Ones‚ for your relentless support. Moments like this show you how deeply loved and cared for you are...I'm going to keep doing what I do &; do the best work I can do for the families whose stories‚ all too often‚ go untold." Red flag alert! Justice Department’s new center strikes at gun rights

Red flag alert! Justice Department’s new center strikes at gun rights

The U.S. Department of Justice on Monday unveiled a brand-new entity designed to train state and local officials how to apply red flag laws to confiscate firearms from gun owners who’ve been deemed “a threat to themselves or to others.” These “red flag laws” are called extreme risk protection orders‚ which are “civil court orders that temporarily restrict firearm access for an individual who is behaving dangerously or presents a high risk of harm to self or others.”Public-private partnerships are the method by which the bureaucracy bypasses you‚ the voter‚ to impose what it wants on the American people. Take note of two critical points here. First‚ these are “civil court orders‚” not laws. The laws exist without your say. This is not even legislation that has passed through Congress. The DOJ bypassed the consent of the governed.Second‚ these “civil court orders” deny due process. If you are deemed a “high risk of harm” to yourself or others‚ the authorities will take your firearm without a court hearing. You wouldn’t get a chance to defend yourself in a courtroom among a jury of your peers. The bureaucracy will have the final say. Here’s how the Justice Department plans to bypass Congress to go after your constitutional right to bear arms. The brand new entity is called the National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center. Here’s what its main purpose is‚ according to its website:The Justice Department launched the National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center (the Center) which will provide training and technical assistance to law enforcement officials‚ prosecutors‚ attorneys‚ judges‚ clinicians‚ victim service and social service providers‚ community organizations‚ and behavioral health professionals responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.Did you catch that? The Center will assist those “responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others.” It claims these are merely “guidelines‚” but don't be fooled. They are laws. Are they laws that you voted for? Did your representative vote for them? The establishment bureaucracy is unhinged from the consent of the governed. The Justice Department said in a statement that extreme risk protection orders laws are:Modeled off domestic violence protection orders‚ [and] create a civil process allowing law enforcement‚ family members (in most states)‚ and medical professionals or other groups (in some states) to petition a court to temporarily prohibit someone at risk of harming themselves or others from purchasing and possessing firearms for the duration of the order.Under the U.S. Constitution‚ I have the right to face my accusers in a court of law. If any one of these parties in this statement‚ whether it be law enforcement‚ family members‚ or medical professionals‚ accuses me of being unfit to own a firearm‚ I have the right to defend myself against them before a judge and a jury of my peers. That is the right to habeas corpus. These laws completely bypass habeas corpus and confiscate your guns through “civil process.”The Justice Department also says its new resource center will “provide training and technical assistance‚ such as the development and dissemination of training for ERPO stakeholders.” Do you suppose you are one of the “stakeholders” in this new federal initiative? I wasn't consulted. Neither was my representative. The bureaucracy just bypassed Congress and went through the Department of Justice. This new bureaucratic initiative is partnering with the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions to provide “training and technical assistance.” It’s a “public-private partnership” — what a surprise! According to Johns Hopkins‚ this assistance will include: Development and dissemination of trainings for ERPO stakeholders; support for states and local jurisdictions to implement ERPO programs; facilitation of peer-to-peer engagements with model ERPO learning sites; delivery of presentations and webinars to advance states’ and localities’ knowledge on key ERPO topics. So‚ the Justice Department is going to work with a school of “public health” to define what people should be looking for when it comes to high-risk gun owners. But since it's a private institution‚ that’s not government overreach‚ right? Public-private partnerships are the method by which the bureaucracy bypasses you‚ the voter‚ to impose what they want on the American people. By the way‚ Johns Hopkins is home to the very first German progressive hospital in the United States. John Hopkins was the root of progressivism in the United States. The Justice Department press release said that 21 states and the District of Columbia have enacted extreme risk protection orders laws. The White House noted that only six of the states that implemented such laws have used federal funds from the bipartisan Safer Communities Act‚ which offers $750 million for “red flag” programs‚ medical health courts‚ drug courts‚ and veteran treatment courts. Do you remember when the government was pushing for veterans to get more money from the Department of Veterans Affairs if they just said they had PTSD? Naturally‚ many people took advantage of that incentive. I was warning people against it because it made you "unstable" in the government's eyes‚ and that makes you a mark for the government to take away your guns. And that is exactly what they will do with this new bureaucratic leviathan. The Justice Department’s preposterous National Extreme Risk Protection Order Resource Center is the latest example of the government’s attempt through “public-private partnerships‚” “civil court orders‚” and other bureaucratic means to disguise what the state is actually doing. It has always been about seizing your constitutional rights and imposing its own agenda‚ regardless of whether you or Congress consent.Want more from Glenn Beck? Elliot Page claims '2SLGBTQ+' rights are being 'revoked‚ restricted‚ and eliminated' in award show rant

The actress formerly known as Ellen Page‚ now Elliot Page‚ boldly claimed that the rights of gay individuals have been eliminated across the world with "devastating" results.Appearing at the 2024 Juno Awards‚ a Canadian music industry awards show‚ Page presented the Humanitarian Award in her hometown of Halifax‚ Nova Scotia‚ Canada.Dressed in an all-black men's suit‚ Page announced that she would be presenting the award to two "icons of Canadian music" who are both "devoted and tenacious change-makers." The "community‚" Page added‚ is one that "we should all be fighting for." "We are at a time in history where the rights of 2SLGBTQ+ people are being revoked‚ restricted‚ and eliminated throughout the world‚ and the effects of which are devastating‚" Page claimed. She would not cite any examples‚ however.Speaking on the CBC‚ Canada's state broadcaster‚ Page praised the Tegan and Sara Foundation. The organization is run by twin 43-year-old Canadian singers who are both lesbians. Tegan Quin and Sara Quin started the foundation in 2016‚ with its stated goal of raising funds and fighting for "LGBTQ+ equality and justice through our flagship programming and support of grassroots organizations‚ activists and communities that often go unrecognized."It is unclear why the organization's website did not include "2S‚" which stands for two-spirit‚ in its mission statement despite the identity being frequently noted by both Page and the twin sisters at the award ceremony."The Tegan and Sara Foundation has one simple mandate: to provide safety and community for 2SLGBTQ+ people‚" Page continued. Page also claimed that the foundation has continued to "create roads towards queer joy" by "funding initiatives such as health care access‚ educational programming‚ and summer camps for two-spirit‚ trans‚ and queer youth."Alluding to the issues as life-or-death situations‚ Page closed her remarks by saying that the foundation has allowed young people to "show up authentically‚" while showing a commitment to ensuring that those with obscure sexualities have lives that are "happy‚ healthy‚ and most importantly‚ long."The Quin sisters spoke after receiving their award and called it a "reflection of the complexities [their] community" faces."If the world were not so hostile to 2SLGBTQ+ people‚ we would see ourselves purely as musicians‚" the twins‚ also wearing suits‚ claimed. "Advocating for our community's rights is a great privilege‚ and we are dedicated to confronting any form of discrimination that threatens the well-being of our community.""Threats like the Alberta government's attempt to prevent trans youth from accessing vital care‚" they specified. The musicians were referring to new legislation in Alberta‚ Canada‚ that banned gender reassignment surgeries for minors and puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for children under 16 years old. Before concluding their time on stage‚ the twin sisters exclaimed that they "love being gay" and encouraged viewers to "try it out."The Tegan and Sara Foundation boasts initiatives on its website‚ including providing community grants for "LGBTQ+ people who have faced economic and healthcare inequality since before COVID-19."This also included race-based grants to "black-led‚ LGBTQ+ organizations addressing systemic racism by organizing to end police violence."In addition‚ the foundation also advocated for "LGBTQ+ Summer Camps‚" "Queer Health Access‚" and of course providing reading materials about gender and sexuality to children. The latter showed very young children as its stock image.Like Blaze News? Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here!
