In March, a Washington D.C. judge sanctioned University of Pennsylvania climate professor Michael Mann and his legal team in a defamation case against National Review for “bad faith trial misconduct” that “was extraordinary in its scope, extent, and intent,” gave the jury “false evidence,” made a “convoluted” case among other factors. Even though he technically won the trial, the lies were deemed so malicious he was ordered to pay out over $500,000 in legal fees...which dwarfed the damages writers Rand Simberg and Mark Steyn had to pay. Despite that, Mann has remained in good standing with MSNBC and The New York Times. In a July 8 screed, The Times turned to Mann for help in trashing the Trump Energy Department for committing the unforgivable sin of having “hired at least three scientists who are well-known for their rejection of the overwhelming scientific consensus on climate change.” Climate policy reporter Maxine Joselow didn’t seem to think twice in having Mann boost her alarmism: Michael Mann, a climate scientist at the University of Pennsylvania, expressed alarm that the Energy Department had hired the three scientists. “What this says is that the administration has no respect for the actual science, which overwhelmingly points in the direction of a growing crisis as we continue to warm the planet through fossil-fuel burning, the consequences of which we’ve seen play out in recent weeks in the form of deadly heat domes and floods here in the U.S.,” Dr. Mann wrote in an email. Nothing about his credibility having been found to be not-above-board by the left’s new favorite branch of government! It was the same story last week on MSNBC. The July 9 Chris Jansing Reports brought Mann out so he could blame climate change for the deadly Texas Hill Country floods around the Fourth of July weekend. NewsBusters intern Lucas Escala had the story for us, including Mann telling Jansing that “climate change has made these events worse,” “made them more deadly,” and “stalled.” Jansing was enthralled with this explanation, continuing to ask him follow-ups instead of citing his legal beatdown. MSNBC and The Times also still brought Mann on despite a deleted BlueSky post from May threatening President Trump’s life, declaring “we’re in Second Amendment territory” if President Trump defies federal courts. So much of what the liberal media do is based on helping their friends, no matter their issues and leaving those on the cutting room floor. For MSNBC and The Times, take note of this the next time they dismiss someone because of real or perceived shadiness.
