Effort To Censure Rep. Ilhan Omar Thwarted By Four Republicans
Four House Republicans helped defeat an effort to censure Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN).
In a 214-213 vote, an effort to censure the Minnesota Democrat spearheaded by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) failed.
The measure would have formally condemned Omar over her criticism of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk and stripped her of all committee assignments.
“Omar has strenuously denied directly making the comments cited by Mace,” POLITICO noted.
The four Republicans who voted against the measure include:
Rep. Mike Flood (Nebraska)
Rep. Jeff Hurd (Colorado)
Rep. Tom McClintock (California)
Rep. Cory Mills (Florida)
“We didn’t have the votes or guts to censure Omar,” Rep. Tim Burchett (R-TN) commented.

More from POLITICO:
Mace said the GOP opposition was “unbelievable” in comments after the vote. “It’s really gross, very disappointing,” she said. A reporter overheard her telling a colleague that she had sent the four Republicans’ names to President Donald Trump.
Mills called his vote “a constitutional First Amendment issue,” while Flood told reporters he condemned Omar’s remarks but believed they should be investigated by the House Ethics Committee before any disciplinary action is taken.
Flood also warned of the potential consequences for Republicans in a Democratic Congress if Omar was censured: “What goes around comes around.”
Omar said she was “glad that there are at least four [Republicans] that are left that believe in the First Amendment and are willing to protect the rights of members to not be punished for things that they haven’t done.”
Asked about Mace, Omar said, “I hope she does get the help she needs.”
“We have officially filed a resolution to censure Ilhan Omar and remove her from her committee assignments. Charlie Kirk was assassinated for speaking the truth, and Ilhan Omar mocked him for it. There MUST be consequences for glorifying political violence,” Mace said earlier this week.

Newsweek noted:
Mace said she had taken action against Omar over her “disgraceful remarks” about Kirk’s death, listing several posts reposted by Omar on X, formerly Twitter, that were critical of the commentator. She also referenced an interview in which she said Omar “smeared Charlie Kirk and implied he was to blame for his own murder.”
Omar denied making such comments and noted that the resolution included no direct quotes from her.
The four Republican lawmakers who opposed the censure said they condemned Omar’s actions but voted against the measure to uphold free speech and First Amendment protections.
