Steve Scalise Recalls Near Assassination On Butler Anniversary: ‘The Left Is Getting More Radical’

President Donald Trump “has done a good job” fixing “internal problems” at the Department of Justice and FBI, House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA) told The Daily Wire in an exclusive interview. Despite “some internal rifts” — a reference to reported tension between Attorney General Pam Bondi and FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino — the agencies are committed to getting rid of “bad actors.” “Kash Patel has been cleaning up the FBI and trying to get rid of the bad actors,” Scalise told Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan on Tuesday during the Republican Study Committee’s “new media row” event. “There will be consequences, hopefully, for the things that they did. If they crossed lines, we’re going to bring accountability.” Scalise said he trusts Trump will do the right thing with the Jeffrey Epstein files. He said he doesn’t know if Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell will testify before Congress. “Obviously, there were a lot of questions about the Epstein case. I haven’t been privy to those documents, the classified information,” Scalise said. “Look, I trust Donald Trump and his judgment. And ultimately, I think he’s going to get the right answers.” Scalise said it’s “alarming” that, one year after Trump was shot at the rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the country still doesn’t know much about the shooter. “But at least the president is doing the things that he said he would do,” Scalise said. Scalise was shot in 2017 during the GOP’s practice for the Congressional Baseball Game. He said when he heard Trump had been shot, he wanted to extend the same support that he received years before. “That night, President Trump came to the hospital with the first lady, Melania, and they were checking on me,” Scalise said. “I wanted to reach out and I texted the president and, obviously, he said he was doing well, but I wanted to look him in the eye, and I got to see him in person just a few days later.” Scalise said Trump is “a man of strength and resilience.” “We saw him stand up, even with blood running down his face, saying, ‘Fight, fight, fight,’” Scalise said. “I think that was such an iconic moment where the country, I think, has always known President Trump is a fighter for them — but they saw it that day.” Scalise said he thinks the assassination attempt changed how Trump approached his second term. “President Trump knows that he knows that it could have gone the other way, but it didn’t,” Scalise said. “And so I think he has an even sharper focus as a president in this second term than in his first term.” Scalise said he’s concerned about increased violent rhetoric from the Left, especially calls for violence against Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers. “It’s encouraging violent behavior. You’re seeing people attacking our law enforcement, including ICE agents, and they’re spurred on by a lot of the rhetoric from the Left that’s got to stop,” Scalise said. The House majority leader said he wished the Left would condemn violence instead of ignoring it. “The easiest thing to do is, if somebody is spurred to go commit violence, that we all quickly call it out,” Scalise said. “And you’re not seeing that right now from the Left, because it’s almost like they’re afraid of the most radical elements of their base. And sometimes you need to be a leader and step up.” “This stuff isn’t coincidental, and words have actions,” Scalise added. The next agenda item for the Republican Party, Scalise said, is telling the country about the One Big Beautiful Bill. Democrats have “lied in every kind of way about this bill. We’ve actually had ads taken down, which is not easy to do because the lies have been so egregious,” Scalise said. “But now let’s go tell the truth.” Scalise referenced the tax breaks and tax-free income in the bill. “If you’re a waiter or waitress, you’re not going to have to pay taxes on tips. If you’re somebody who works overtime from a shift worker to a nurse to a police officer, you won’t be having to pay taxes on overtime, and it’s retroactive to January,” Scalise said. “Seniors get a tax break for small business owners.” “The One Big Beautiful Bill was really a culmination of all of those promises that were talked about on the campaign trail to actually deliver for those families,” Scalise said.

Republican Congresswoman Pushes Mass ‘Amnesty’ Bill For Illegal Aliens

Rep. Maria Salazar (R-FL) is leading an effort to prevent the deportation of an untold number of illegal aliens, offering them a legal pathway to remain in the United States with a bill that critics have called an amnesty proposal. Called the Dignity Act, the legislation was introduced by Salazar and Rep. Veronica Escobar (D-TX). It would allow illegal aliens who have been in the country since 2021 to apply for a renewable seven-year legal status. Those deemed eligible would have to pass a background check and pay $7,000 in restitution over a seven-year period. The bill would also offer legal status and a pathway to permanent residency — and eventually to citizenship — for recipients of the Obama-era DACA program. “We are the noblest nation on the face of the Earth. It is time for our immigration system to measure up,” Salazar wrote in Spanish on X. Salazar repeatedly claimed that the legislation is not an amnesty bill, arguing that it “allows certain long-term undocumented immigrants to earn legal status, without amnesty or a path to citizenship.” The legislation has been derided by critics as an amnesty measure, however. Former Representative Matt Gaetz warned that “the ‘Dignity Act’ includes amnesty for illegal immigrants,” while conservative lawyer Will Chamberlain charged that the legislation “is an amnesty bill for illegal aliens and would absolutely blow the door open on legal migration.” Conservative organizations similarly warned that the legislation includes amnesty for illegal aliens. “There is no mistake about it, this is first and foremost an amnesty bill,” the Federation for American Immigration Reform wrote when the legislation was introduced in a previous legislative session in 2022. The Center for Immigration Studies similarly blasted the bill when Salazar introduced it in 2022, calling it “an amnesty for aliens illegally present in the United States” warning that “all amnesties simply encourage more illegal immigration, and Salazar’s proposal would be no different.” Salazar touted the legislation in media appearances this week, claiming that some illegal aliens “deserve to stay in the United States.” “There is another mass of people, most of them Hispanics, who have been here for more than five years contributing to the economy, who do not have a criminal record, and those people deserve some type of dignity and deserve to stay,” Salazar said in an appearance on Fox News. Daily Wire host Matt Walsh shot back at Salazar on X, blasting her argument that some illegal aliens “deserve” to remain in America despite illegally entering the country. “Deserve? If foreigners ‘deserve’ to disregard our laws, what laws do I as an American citizen deserve to disregard? Do I deserve to not pay my taxes? Ignore speed limits? Shoplift? Or is this an entitlement reserved only for foreign nationals? Please explain, Maria,” Walsh charged. In addition to offering legal status to illegal aliens, the bill would also expand the number of migrants who could enter the country on various visas, mandate that employers use E-Verify to check the work authorization status of new hires, increase pay for Border Patrol agents, and grant new funding to upgrade ports of entry along the border. Salazar is not the only Republican in support of the effort to offer legal status to illegal aliens, however. The act has also received the support of Mario Rafael Diaz-Balart (R-FL), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA), Mike Lawler (R-NY), Dan Newhouse (R-WA), David Valadao (R-CA), Mike Kelly (R-PA), Gabe Evans (R-CO), Marlin Stutzman (R-IN), Don Bacon (R-NE), and Young Kim (R-CA). Salazar did not respond to a request for comment.

Congressman August Pfluger Shares Firsthand Experience During Texas Floods

WASHINGTON—Congressman August Pfluger recalled the devastation that swept through his hometown during the July 4th floods in a candid interview with The Daily Wire on Tuesday. The Texas Republican spoke with Daily Wire White House Correspondent Mary Margaret Olohan during the “new media row” event sponsored by the Republican Study Committee, which he chairs. Pfluger represents Texas’s 11th district, which includes many of the communities stricken by the floods. He said two of his daughters were at Camp Mystic when the floods hit. “It’s a horrible feeling as a parent to know that you’re not sure whether your children are okay,” Pfluger said. “And in this case of my two daughters that were there and had been going to this camp for a long time, it was a very scary moment.” “We’re lucky my daughters, who were at the camp, are safe,” Pfluger said. “You know, it was very, very stressful and hard to go through that, but Texans are strong … We need a lot of prayers from around the country right now.” Twenty-seven Camp Mystic campers, many around eight years old, and several camp counselors, died in the floods. “It’s truly tragic,” Pfluger said. “So many families are grieving right now. … It’s hard to even describe what happened. I mean, just something on a scale and magnitude that we’ve never seen. And our prayers were with a lot of families.” Pfluger expressed his gratitude to the quick actions of Texas Governor Abbot and the Trump administration for declaring disasters in the state. When some commentators began to inject politics into the bleak situation, Pfluger noted that this travesty was an opportunity for those who sit in different political camps to come together. “I’ve had many Democrats who have reached out to me in this period,” Pfluger said. “I’ve learned a lot about those people, and they didn’t say one thing about any of the politicization, but there are those who have chosen to do that.” “There’s no place for [politicization]. … I think the rest of us — the rest of society — just want to know how can we help. That’s the first question that most people ask. That’s the part of society that I want to be with. Those are the people that I think are going to help all of us rise up and be strong, whose voices are louder right now.” While the final toll of the devastation will not be fully known until the affected communities recover, there are still countless searches ongoing. Those in central Texas not searching for a loved one have begun attempting to return their communities to normalcy. “If you know somebody and most people have a connection in Texas, especially to somebody who was affected by this, reach out to them, ask him how they’re doing,” Pfluger urged Americans. “It’s okay if you asked them before. Ask them again.”

‘Don’t Know How He’s Still In Office’: New York Congresswoman Slams Zohran Mamdani

‘Don’t Know How He’s Still In Office’: New York Congresswoman Slams Zohran Mamdani

Congresswoman Claudia Tenney sharply criticized New York City mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani in an interview with The Daily Wire on Tuesday, as Democrats remain slow to endorse him. The New York Republican called Mamdani a “Marxist antisemite” over his failure to condemn the slogan “globalize the intifada,” widely seen as a call for violence against Jews. Mamdani, a New York State Assemblyman who represents parts of Queens, won the Democratic primary last month in an upset that threw the mayoral race into chaos. He is now running against incumbent Mayor Eric Adams and disgraced former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo. “I don’t know how he’s still in office,” Tenney told The Daily Wire, reflecting on his use of “globalize the intifada.” “I mean, I don’t know how that’s not a breach of the Constitution and your oath, but that’s something I’ll be discussing in the future.” Tenney, who represents a large district along the Canadian border, warned that New York’s sanctuary policies are turning the state into a magnet for drugs and human trafficking. “These are the kind of people that are helping, aiding and abetting the criminal cartels that are trafficking children, trafficking women,” she said of Mamdani. “Cartels are going to go where the money is,” she said, noting that in New York City, criminals can “hide out” and “do whatever they want.” Tenney also had harsh words for Governor Kathy Hochul, labeling her “as bad or worse than Cuomo,” and noted that powerful Democrats like Senator Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (NY) have remained largely silent on Mamdani so far. “People are really concerned about this Mamdani thing,” she said of her constituents. “They’re just starting to get wind of it.” Tenney argued that public safety will be the defining issue of the 2026 elections, noting that her constituents are worried about the lack of respect for police officers. “The police have been essentially unable to do their job to keep our community safe. So you’re seeing this is a big issue. Security, I think, is going to be the issue of the next election, 2026,” she said. Mamdani has proposed deploying mental health professionals in crisis situations rather than police officers and wants to create a “Department of Community Safety.” The safety crisis is not confined to New York City either, she said. “When you see tent cities and crime being committed in New York City, it’s happening all over the state because those laws have been statewide,” she said, “so they’re affecting everyone.” Democrats are “siding with criminal gang members over innocent people,” Tenney added. “They’re supporting rapists and murderers and extortionists over their own citizens. I think that’s going to be a problem for the Democrats next year.”

Surrounded by Angel Parents, Trump Signs Bill Aimed At Ending Fentanyl Drug Crisis

WASHINGTON—President Donald Trump signed a bipartisan bill Wednesday aimed at ending the fentanyl drug crisis while surrounded by mothers and fathers of young people who lost their lives to the deadly drug. “We’ll be getting the drug dealers, pushers, and peddlers off our street, and we will not rest until we have ended the drug overdose epidemic,” he promised attendees in the East Room of the White House on Wednesday afternoon. Trump promised that the legislation would take “a historic step toward justice for every family touched by the fentanyl scourge.” The HALT Fentanyl Act permanently schedules fentanyl-related substances as “Fentanyl Analogs,” a classification that would expire at the end of the month without the new legislation. An analog is a copycat fentanyl that has been chemically changed just enough to skirt the law, but is just as deadly. The White House argues it must be prosecuted in the same way. Greg Swan, whose son Drew died as a result of a fentanyl-related substance, looks on as Trump speaks during the bill signing (Photo by Anna Moneymaker/Getty Images) “Under the HALT Fentanyl Act, anyone who possesses, imports, distributes, or manufactures any illicit FRS (fentanyl-related substances) will be subject to criminal prosecution in the same manner as any other Schedule I controlled substance,” reads a White House document shared with The Daily Wire. “First, we close the loopholes criminals use to skirt around the law,” the document notes. “Second, we make it easier for law enforcement to prosecute those criminals.” The new legislation amends the Controlled Substances Act to permanently classify these illicit fentanyl knockoffs as Schedule 1. And it fulfills some key campaign promises of Trump, who has heavily messaged to his supporters that he will rein in the fentanyl crisis. “For four years, Joe Biden and Democrats hardly muttered a word about the fentanyl crisis, which remains the number one leading cause of death in our country,” White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt shared in a statement ahead of the signing. “President Trump has made securing the border and ending the drug crisis a top priority, and today, he will further follow through on his commitment to the courageous fentanyl moms and dads who elected him to Make America Safe Again.” A number of top Trump supporters who have been aggressive on border policy were also present at the event: Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem, Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin, Fox News contributor Sara Carter, U.S. Envoy to the Middle East Steve Witkoff, Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, Senator Chuck Grassley of Iowa, and Senator Jim Banks of Indiana filled the first few rows and were named by the president. House Speaker Mike Johnson arrived slightly late to the bill signing and quietly slid into a seat in the back, where a delighted mother and son duo were quick to take photos with him. The president invited several of the angel parents in attendance to speak at the podium. One father, whose son Drew was tragically killed by fentanyl, told Trump on Wednesday afternoon: “Thank you, Mr. President, for stopping the border crossings. Full stop.” “We were being gaslit,” he added, “and you came and lit a fire to that story, and we’re a lot safer for it.

Reality Star Spencer Pratt Slams California Plan To Build Low-Income Housing In Fire Ravaged Areas

“The Hills” actor Spencer Pratt is coming down hard on California governor Gavin Newsom (D) and the state Senate for supporting a bill that will allow the city to purchase fire ravaged lots to construct low income housing.  “… I used my trusty Chat GPT pro asking why this Bill would be bad for residents. The response was interesting. So I asked my new 4 agents at Grok 4 heavy the same question,” the 41-year-old reality star wrote in his Instagram caption.    View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Spencer Pratt (@spencerpratt) Pratt included images of the bill’s text and the AI platform breakdowns of what it all meant.  “Obviously I’m no genius… but having the people in charge of the town they just let burn down make any decisions in rebuilding it… seems crazy to me,” he added.    The images included detailed breakdowns of California Senate Bill 549 via Grok 4 Heavy.  “Removes local control over land use in fire-affected areas; enables county rezoning/redevelopment without resident input; risks displacement, overdevelopment, added bureaucracy, delays, and new taxes,” one image in the carousel said. Another image detailed why SB549 was “bad for residents,” giving reasons such as “creates a county authority that overrides city/community decisions on rebuilding after wildfires” and “enables rezoning without input.” Pratt lost his $3 million home during the wildfires that ravaged the Los Angeles area in January. He previously announced his intention to sue the state for their handling of the natural disaster.  Per Los Angeles Magazine, the bill will allow the city to purchase now vacant lots of structures destroyed by the fires to build low income housing. Newsom announced that he has allocated $101 million in taxpayer funds to help with the project.  “Los Angeles has taken significant steps to rebuild after January’s fires, but the devastation is significant and there remains a long road ahead. Thousands of families – from Pacific Palisades to Altadena to Malibu – are still displaced and we owe it to them to help,” Newsom said, saying the bill seeks to “accelerate the development of affordable multifamily rental housing so that those rebuilding their lives after this tragedy have access to a safe, affordable place to come home to.”
