Senate Confirms Mike Waltz As UN Ambassador

The Senate confirmed Mike Waltz, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, to be the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations (UN) on Friday afternoon. The upper chamber approved Waltz’s confirmation in a near party-line vote of 47 to 43, just in time for the UN General Assembly gathering in New York City which is […]

Young People Reflect on Charlie Kirk’s Lasting Impact

The Daily Signal asked interns at The Heritage Foundation to share their thoughts about the life and legacy of Turning Point USA founder Charlie Kirk, who was assassinated on Sept. 10. What you will read below highlights his profound impact as a conservative leader who inspired hope, faith, and cultural renewal among their generation. They reflect on his legacy of unwavering commitment to conservative principles and Christian faith. And, perhaps most importantly, they express a determination to carry his vision forward. Let’s Create the World That Charlie Wanted Charlie Kirk was, as was said of John the Baptist in Isaiah 40:3, “the voice of one crying in the wilderness.” He was, for a time, the lone voice of our generation to advocate for the conservative movement. He spoke to young conservatives with a powerful message of hope and piety. Unlike some conservative leaders, he did not speak with condescension toward our generation. Instead, he met us where we were and then lifted us to a greater understanding of political truth. When I was 16, my mother and I were moving between the basements of friends and family. We had no home to call our own and little food to nourish us. Conservative voices such as Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, and Charlie Kirk were key motivators during this difficult time. I will be eternally grateful for Charlie’s optimistic vision of a future America that inspired me to create my own future. And now, as he once helped shape my future, I am honored to carry on his legacy in building a greater nation. Our movement may have lost its Achilles, but Troy is still ours to conquer. His legacy will inspire future leaders, activists, and families to continue fighting for his vision. People die often, but ideas are eternal. Let us live the life that he yearned for and create the world that he will never see. Charlie, you gave me everything, even your life. And to repay you, I will give mine to this nation. Matthew Russell, age 23 I Started a Turning Point USA Chapter at My School—It Completely Changed My College Experience “If a liberal is speaking, give them the respect that they never give to us.” I heard Charlie Kirk speak these words to a crowd in Mankato, Minnesota, at a stop on his college tour in 2021. It was during the part of his events when he would take questions from those who disagree with him. Charlie was killed during the same segment of his stop at Utah Valley University just four years later. Hearing him speak and meeting him briefly is an experience I will never forget. “The respect that they never give to us.” Hearing these words struck a chord then, as they especially do now. In 2020, I started college in Minneapolis at the height of the COVID-19 hysteria and after a summer of riots, violence, and destruction on and near my campus in the wake of George Floyd’s death. My college campus was a hostile environment for conservatives. The Left’s ideology dominated campus culture—from the university president’s rhetoric to our community advisers’ priorities in the dorms, and everything in between. Liberal students felt free, even empowered, to express their views. Conservatives did not. Out of self-preservation, conservatives self-censored. In 2021, I started a Turning Point USA chapter at my school. It completely changed my college experience. Through it, I met like-minded students and made life-long friends. It gave us a space to meet and debate with each other. We brought inspiring conservative speakers to campus. I no longer felt alone. Since Sept. 10, I have been overwhelmed with gratitude for the ways Charlie Kirk changed my life. His unwavering faith and commitment to the truth have inspired me to live like he did. I take comfort in knowing that Charlie has heard the sweet words of his Savior Jesus Christ saying, “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” For Charlie, the fight is over. For me, it has only begun. Morgan Berkness, age 23 What the Enemy Meant for Evil, God Will Use for Good There are no words to describe the impact Charlie Kirk had on not just myself, but the American people. I first learned about Charlie on social media through videos. Immediately, I was in awe of his confidence and bold, unwavering faith. What intrigued me the most was his ability to have honest discussions with people and even welcome peaceful debates with those who did not agree with him. Charlie stood so firmly in his convictions and taught the truth of Jesus Christ across the nation, bringing light to college campuses. As a college student in California, it is hard to find the courage to speak up for my own beliefs, politically and spiritually. Charlie encouraged me to be open about what I believe and share it with others fearlessly. Over this past week, I have experienced a deep sadness. I have not just lost a conservative leader who I admired, but a brother in Christ. Charlie is the only reason I felt the need to dive into politics and share my faith boldly with those around me. The Lord knew our nation needed a great leader to point the lost to Christ and bring a revival to America, Charlie did that and so much more. Over this past week, I have never felt a greater desire to stand firm in our sovereign Lord and share the conservative principles that Charlie valued so deeply. It would be an understatement to say that I have only noticed a change in just my generation over this past week. I have noticed a radical change in all of America, from my grandparents’ generation to mine. His influence will not end here; it will continue to spread to the rest of generations to come. What the enemy meant for evil, God uses for good. Charlie, your legacy will never be forgotten. Caitlyn Beasley, Pepperdine University, age 19 He Taught Me to Never Remain Quiet About What I Believe Charlie Kirk’s death is a wake-up call. It brings to mind the two most fundamental questions that I believe a man can ever ask himself: Who are you and what are you created for? I believe that Charlie’s public service has shown us that these are the very questions around which the conservative movement is centered. Charlie loved his fellow man. He went out of his way to debate the other side not because he despised those on it, not because he wanted to make fools of them on the stage, but because he loved them and believed in his core that they were being duped by the system. His death proved that he was right. Charlie was the vanguard of the conservative movement. He is the figure under which the conservative movement will march forward. The fundamental lesson that Charlie taught me is to never remain quiet about what you believe and to never compromise. That is what it means to fight for what is right. Charlie was silenced for that. But I will not be. My peers will not be. America will not be. There is nothing that the Left can do that can destroy our hope for the salvation of America. There is nothing it can do to destroy our faith. And whether those on the Left believe it or not, there is nothing they can do to destroy our love for them. Our Lord tells us to “love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you” (Matthew 5:44). Charlie touched people not because he debated them, but because he loved them. Thank you, Charlie Kirk, for your service to our country and to my generation. You will never be forgotten. Logan McVay, Hillsdale College, age 21 We Must Be the Light That Casts out the Darkness My initial reaction to Charlie’s death was one of spiritual desolation. At the risk of sounding naive, coming to terms with the existence of unrestrained evil in a fallen world is a bitter revelation. And yet, as a Roman Catholic, I take solace in Christ’s command that we be the light that casts out the viper we call darkness. Charlie’s assassination, paired with my own experience interning at The Heritage Foundation, has only confirmed the sobering truth that there are forces in our society intent on extinguishing that light. But I do not fear those who trade in deception and intimidation. Rather, I recall Pope Saint John Paul II’s resolute exhortation: Be not afraid. Charlie was more than a public figure; he was an inspiration to me and to a generation of conservatives unafraid to enter the intellectual and cultural arenas. Through his intellectual clarity, moral conviction, and uncommon humility, he helped reclaim the public square—both on and off campus—from the grip of a post-structuralist ideology that offers nothing but despair and dissolution. Frankly, I believe conservatives of earlier generations made a critical error by withdrawing from key institutions of civil society, i.e., academia, the arts, and media. That vacuum, as history shows us, was not left empty; it was filled by those who reject truth, beauty, and goodness. Charlie understood this. He advocated not just for political engagement, but for cultural renewal, urging young conservatives to pursue their vocations boldly and unapologetically. I am personally committed to honoring Charlie’s legacy by laboring in the recovery of our aesthetic and intellectual inheritance. Our civilization is worth defending, not only in policy but in art, in architecture, and in story. If we are to stand against the forces of nihilism, we must become builders once again. Charlie reminded us that courage is contagious. May we now have the courage to carry forward his vision. Joseph Wozniak, Georgetown University, age 24 Speak the Truth, but With Love As the oldest sibling in my family, I always wanted to be right. I wanted the final word, the facts on my side, and audience approval every time. In every setting, I believed if the evidence supported my position, surely everyone would come to share my perspective. I couldn’t have been further from the truth, and Charlie Kirk showed me that.  Charlie showed me it wasn’t enough to care about the truth—I had to care about the person with whom I was sharing it. Before quotes or statistics were thrown, our conversation needed to be shaped by the reality that my opponent was made in the image of a God so loving that He sacrificed His Son for both of us. Without love animating my conviction, I had nothing to offer (1 Corinthians 13:1-3). Charlie knew this, and it was obvious to everyone he encountered.  The last time I was in the same room with Charlie was in April at Texas A&M University. With thousands of Aggies assembled, Charlie had seven minutes to speak before taking questions. With his seven minutes, he chose to present the Gospel. He knew that his policy advocacy and moral values would fall flat without the perspective of eternity, so he invited every person in that room into an intimate relationship with the Savior who changed his life. This was paramount to his agenda. I’ve never won a battle in the comments section. I’ve never convinced someone of my beliefs on a podcast or through an essay contest. True transformation of the heart only happens when I engage my peers with the love of Christ. That’s what Charlie went out and did every single day, and it’s what I’m committed to now, as a believer in his legacy: speaking the truth with love and confidence, just as he did.  Hallie Dollins, Texas A&M University, age 21 ‘When People Stop Talking, That’s When You Get Violence’ I have always loved studying the miracles of the Constitutional Convention. How a room of 50-plus people from varying backgrounds and occupations could come together to discuss and debate ideas and philosophies to form a monumental standard and foundational document for a young nation that would last hundreds of years. The writers of the Constitution did not agree on everything, but they used their disagreements to form concepts that were more than just compromises. They talked and listened. They did not record votes because they did not want to label and limit any individual to one mindset incapable of change and persuasion. I saw Charlie Kirk carry on this form of diplomacy throughout his career. He engaged in ideas and listened. He was bold in his knowledge and testimony about Christ but compassionate in his communication. I loved his thought, “When people stop talking, that’s when you get violence.” He was always willing to learn! He knew history and loved the United States and made it his work to share that love and beautifully complex history with others. This is how I want to honor his legacy. I want to continue learning. I want to be intentional about where and when I share my beliefs and where and when I choose to stop, stand still, and make a greater effort to listen. Like Charlie, I hope to be filled with the pure love of Christ and share my testimony of my Savior always.  Jori Hall, age 24 There Is Always Hope for America—Giving Up Is Never an Option Since Charlie’s death, I can’t help but recall attending his Turning Point Action Conference in 2023. I received my first impression of him there. He was simply overwhelmed with unbridled, authentic hope. When many were disheartened about our nation’s future, Charlie offered a vision. He acknowledged the present issues but did not stop there; he wanted everyone to know that there is always hope for America and that giving up is never an option. The costs of giving up are far too great to imagine. While giving up might seem tempting now, I refuse to surrender to the darkness surrounding the loss of Charlie Kirk. I refuse to cower to those trying to defeat us with violence after failing to defeat us with intellect. Above all, I maintain Charlie’s hope driven by his faith in Christ, not because the circumstances give rise to it, but because the future of a free nation depends on it. Angie J., age 21 The Greatest Thing Charlie Ever Taught Me: The Power of Surrendering Your Life to God Words cannot describe the gravity of the pain our generation is experiencing with the loss of Charlie Kirk. We all carry a Charlie story that guided and illuminated our paths. I came across Turning Point USA at a crossroads in my life. It offered mentorship that helped shape me. While attending the University of Alabama, I knew about TPUSA but never got involved, always finding excuses. That changed in spring of 2024, when I saw a flyer advertising a Candace Owens event. I reached out to the then-vice president of our TPUSA chapter, asking how I could get involved. That was my catalyst for transformation. I met passionate, driven individuals who welcomed me. That led to an invitation to join the executive board as chapter vice president, and I accepted.  That summer, I attended the Chapter Leadership Summit and immersed myself, striving to understand all sides of the debates shaping our world. I focused on preparing our chapter for a year of impact and success. In the fall of 2024, we hosted events, club debates, and conversations, all of which bore fruit. I never intended to move to Washington, D.C., or enter politics. It was at Turning Point’s AmericaFest 2024 during Faith Night that everything shifted for me. Charlie delivered a message that was challenging and inspiring. He spoke of how his faith guided every decision. It filled me with hope for our generation, igniting a passion to pursue something greater. I realized I wasn’t placed here for my own desires, but “for such a time as this,” as the Bible says in Esther 4:14, to step out for Jesus Christ and live with faith and courage. The greatest thing Charlie ever taught me was the power of surrendering your life to God. Many are called, but not all answer the call. I pray more of us say yes to it. Mary Elizabeth Miller, Age 23 Reflect Christ, Emanate Joy, and Stand for Truth in a Culture That Rejects All of These One thing that always stuck out to me about Charlie Kirk was his ability to respectfully stand up for what he believed. This is a rare quality to find in people today. Charlie was someone who unapologetically lived out God’s calling for his life. Charlie stood his ground, was passionate about his beliefs, and was always able to give an account for the hope that he had because of Jesus Christ. He was an example to us of how to love other people while being resolute in his faith. His ability to conduct himself in a professional yet loving way, without faltering under pressure, is something I strive for every day. Charlie largely advanced the conservative movement and shined the light of Christ in every interaction he had with people. He was a city on a hill, shining for a lost and dying world. His legacy will live on because he lived what he preached in his professional life and his personal life. He showed people that Jesus is the only substantive source of truth, and nothing else matters more than having a personal relationship with Him. It isn’t about being right, it isn’t about gaining approval, and it isn’t about winning an argument. It is about reflecting Christ, emanating true joy, and passionately standing for truth in a culture that adamantly rejects all of these. I will remember Charlie for many reasons, but the most impactful of these was his undying love for Christ and his ability to remain steadfast to the truth. Taxpayers Fund Transgender, DEI Apps With Grants Meant for National Security

Federal small business grants intended for national defense technology have gone to create mobile apps for gay men, “transgender” women, and LGBTQ parents, and have funded other diversity, equity and inclusion programs.  Senate Small Business Committee Chairwoman Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, has proposed the Investing in National Next-Generation Opportunities for Venture Acceleration and Technological Excellence Act, or the INNOVATE Act, to reform certain grant programs by eliminating DEI considerations or awards. The focus would shift to expand funding to small businesses in rural America. “Your tax dollars should never be wasted on nonsense, especially when they are supposed to be spent on America’s national security,” Ernst told The Daily Signal in a statement.  Funding for two programs that Ernst’s bill focuses on, Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer, is set to expire on Sept. 30 unless Congress reauthorizes it.  “The SBIR-STTR [Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer] programs are designed to be America’s seed fund to develop game-changing innovation to maintain our nation’s technological edge,” Ernst added. “My INNOVATE Act eliminates DEI from these critical programs and refocuses them on their mission of delivering for our warfighters.” Examples of problematic grants include: 1) A $1.39 million grant from the National Institutes of Health for “Mobile App Promoting Sexual Health for Young Black Men Who Have Sex with Men.” The grant stretched from 2018 through 2021, and was issued to Dfusion, based in Scotts Valley, California.  “The program employs a theory-based approach to address essential knowledge, perceptions of risk, peer norms, attitudes, and skill with two primary goals: (1) To reduce HIV/STI [sexually transmitted infections], the program emphasizes partner reduction, avoidance of concurrent partners, condoms, and HIV/STI tests; and (2) to improve sexual health and relationships, it helps participants to become clearer about what they do/don’t want to do sexually, to communicate their choices, and to learn ways to enhance sexual experience while reducing HIV/STI risk,” the grant description says.  2) The NIH separately awarded $1.66 million to Dfusion to develop “Trans Women Connected: a mobile app-delivered sexual health promotion program” for the second phase of the project, issued in 2018. This came after the NIH previously awarded $224,972 for the project in 2017. The phase one description says the project stretches to 2028.  “This project will address these gaps by completing the development of Trans Women Connected: A Sexual Health Promotion Mobile App designed to engage transgender women through a strengths-based approach to HIV/sexual health that uses the power of social networks to identify and encourage protective factors that support the health and well-being of transgender women,” the grant description says. 3) The Department of Health and Human Services awarded a $283,526 grant for “Evidence-based Parent Training for Diverse Families.” The award went to IRIS Media Inc., based in Eugene, Oregon.  “People who identify as LGBTQ+ and whose relationships do not fit within heterosexual and/or cisgender norms—are increasingly having children or considering having them. LGBTQ+ parents generally experience similar parenting problems as heterosexual, cisgender parents, but they also face unique challenges related to their sexual orientation and/or gender identity,” the grant description says. “LGBTQ+ parents need effective, evidence-based training to address their unique needs and develop skills to mitigate external stressors and facilitate resilience and empowerment.” Among other things, the INNOVATE Act would also require businesses with dozens of grant awards each to be commercially viable and not exclusively rely on federal small business awards as a source of perpetual revenue. The Ernst legislation would also create a standardized formula to safeguard critical innovation from falling into the hands of China or other foreign adversaries. This would involve restrictions on funding companies that share technology with companies based in adversarial nations that they work with.  While 835 applications across government for Small Business Innovation Research and Small Business Technology Transfer grant funding were flagged in 2023 and 2024 for having foreign risks, just 303 were denied for their ties to adversaries, according to a report issued by Ernst.  The report asserted that hundreds of millions of dollars in technology funded by taxpayer dollars was vulnerable to Chinese espionage and that there was a lack of due diligence standards across government agencies to protect such technology.  Ernst also said that in the past decade, just 25 companies—making up 0.5% of award recipients in the Pentagon’s Small Business Innovation Research program—got 18% of the grants, or about $2.3 billion.  The INNOVATE Act would reserve 2.5% of all SBIR grants across government agencies for smaller, one-time $40,000 awards to new applicants with a shorter, streamlined application focused on the commercialization potential of their innovation. It would further eliminate funding for underperforming pilot programs. Neither Dfusion or IRIS Media replied to phone and email inquiries for this story. Guy Went Out for Lunch But Returned with a Kitten in His Arms, He Couldn't Walk Away from the Tiny Cat

A man went out for lunch but came back with a kitten in his arms. He couldn't walk away from the tiny cat who needed help. AnaSparkle Cat RescueRyan Mays and his coworker stopped for lunch at a Culver's a few days ago, never expecting their day would lead to saving a tiny life.As they headed back to their trucks, his coworker spotted a little bundle of fur in the parking lot. "He pointed out a kitten walking towards us. The kitten came right up to me, only a few weeks old, looking for someone to protect her," Ryan shared with Love Meow."I picked her up and decided to call my friend Stephanie at Sparkle Cat Rescue to see if she could help." Sparkle Cat RescueThe parking lot was full of cars and traffic—no place for a young kitten. Stephanie Grantham, president of Sparkle Cat Rescue, immediately offered to help. Within ten minutes, Ryan had the kitten, Anastasia, or Ana for short, safely in Stephanie's care."She's very clean, healthy, and social," Stephanie told Love Meow. "She probably hitched a ride under a car, unless she was abandoned there." Ana turned into an instant cuddle bugSparkle Cat RescueThough Ana wasn't thrilled about the cat carrier, she was instantly curious about her new surroundings. She crawled into Stephanie's lap, climbed onto her shoulders, and pressed her tiny face against her as if to say thank you. From the start, Ana made it clear she wanted to be held and wasn't taking no for an answer. Sparkle Cat RescueStephanie happily obliged and spent some time cuddling Ana, assuring her she was safe. Not even an hour later, Cindy, one of the rescue's dedicated volunteers, stepped up to foster Ana. Even though she already had two other foster cats, she didn't hesitate to make room for one more. Sparkle Cat RescueAt just five weeks old and a little over a pound, Ana was fluffy as a cloud and full of affection. While waiting to meet her foster mom, she perched on Stephanie's shoulder, surveying the world with wide eyes.No one from the public came to claim her, but little Ana was finally safe indoors. Sparkle Cat RescueAfter a whirlwind of a day, Ana curled up in her new bed and drifted into a well-deserved nap. "Cindy told me she went right to sleep as soon as I passed her along. It had been a very busy hour for Ana."Later that day, Ana woke up refreshed, ready to show off her playful spirit. Sparkle Cat Rescue"She's tiny but feisty. After she ate a good meal, she took a long, hard nap," Cindy shared with Love Meow.Ana quickly discovered toys, pouncing and wrestling with them as if she were ten times her size. Though still tiny and mostly fluff, she was fearless and adventurous, exploring every corner of her new space and claiming it as her own. Sparkle Cat RescueAna has a lot of growing to do before she's ready for adoption, but what she lacks in size, she makes up for in personality. In just a few days, she has blossomed into a cuddly, confident little teddy bear. Sparkle Cat RescueRyan, a longtime supporter of Sparkle Cat Rescue, never expected a lunch break to end with a kitten in his arms. Now, he can rest easy knowing that Ana is in good hands, loved, and has a bright future ahead. Sparkle Cat RescueShare this story with your friends. The View Goes Silent on Kimmel Suspension, Show Off Their WikiFeet

If ABC’s The View was known for anything, it was that the six co-hosts were loud and very opinionated. But for two airings, on Thursday and Friday, the liberal ladies had not so much as alluded to the story which dominated much of the liberal media’s time and fearmongering in the latter part of the week: ABC’s suspension of Jimmy Kimmel. Instead, there seemed to be an undercurrent of angst as their infamous “Hot Topics” segments came off as a bit blunted and they covered bizarre things like hyping their WikiFeet scores. Not long before going their summer hiatus, The View was very vocal in their defense of “comedian” Stephen Colbert after CBS announced that they were canceling his show. “Because it's very clear that if it is political, this is the dismantling of our democracy. This is the dismantling of our Constitution,” Hostin declared at the time. “That means the very rubric of our democracy is being dismantled. And I think every single person should be really, really concerned about it.” A pretty strong statement for them to not say something when the suspension was in their own house at ABC. Perhaps recent comments from FCC Chairman Brendon Carr taking aim at The View had them spooked, but they’ve also boasted that they weren’t afraid of the Trump administration. Or perhaps, they were spooked the Disney and ABC executives who suspended Kimmel; the same ones who scolded them once before that they needed to tone down their rhetoric or face consequences. Despite Kimmel’s suspension being announced the night prior, the Hot Topics conversations on Thursday only focused on the congressional hearings of FBI Director Kash Patel and HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. respectively. Joy Behar did seem brave enough to take a swing at President Trump while mocking Patel. “You know, Trump famously said he likes the poorly educated. He also seems to like the unqualified and the uninformed. I mean if the FBI director does not know the information, who is supposed to know, my dentist?” she chided.     Sunny Hostin also seemed brave when she suggested that Kennedy had committed perjury. Although, she did seem to hedge it (Click “expand”): Can I say to the testimony that we just saw from RFK Jr. and also from the former director of the CDC, when I used to interview people as a federal prosecutor, one of the first things I said was, “By the way, I'm a federal prosecutor, lying to a federal prosecutor is a crime. Punishable -- it's called perjury and it’s punishable by five years in federal prison. Let's now begin our interview. And I'm not saying that anyone lied in front of Congress, but lying to Congress is a federal crime. And so, that distinction between what happened between the human health services head and the former head of the CDC is something that I think the Justice Department should look into. Also during that episode, they had a segment where they discussed the notion of whether or not you should experience a break up with someone before you marry them. Friday episodes of The View were often pre-recorded on Thursdays. The show’s relatively recent move to stop announcing which episodes were recorded live, made it difficult to precisely ascertain the timelines for then new shows were recorded in relation to breaking news. In this case, Carr’s suggestion that The View could be under the microscope. The only Hot Topics segment they did on Friday’s episode was once again about former Vice President Kamala Harris’s new book about the 2024 presidential election. Pitched as a preview of what they’ll discuss with Harris during her appearance on the show next Tuesday, they talked about her regret of not picking former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg to be her running mate. In the most heated part of the conversation, Hostin tried to cry racism and sexism as usual, but there seemed to be an even stronger effort to hedge (Click “expand”): HOSTIN: I too wish that the Vice President had gone with her gut because I think Pete Buttigieg would have been -- could have been a game changer. But I also know – through my lived experience as a black woman in this country – that that is what people see first when they see you, not you perhaps [points to Sara Haines], perhaps not you [points to Alyssa Farah Griffin], but a lot of people see that and they define me by that, and that is unfortunately a fact of life here. BEHAR: But they did vote for a black guy twice. HOSTIN: Yes, they did but not a black woman. Okay? Hillary Clinton arguably was the most qualified candidate for the presidency that we've had, perhaps. [Applause] And they couldn't get past that. After they ended that segment, they discussed Martha Stewart’s thirst traps and their WikiFeet scores; WikiFeet being the website were creepy people posted images of celebrities’ feet and rate them. Hostin had all their scores: “Joy, you score a 4.07 out of five … Ana, 4.38 … Alyssa, 4.43. Sunny, 4.46. Sara, 4.83.” And out of their five guests over the course of those two days, none of them discussed politics.

Dowd Attacks MSNBC For Firing Him, Laments The Left's Focus On Kimmel

Democrat-turned Republican-turned independent-turned Democrat Matthew Dowd was fired from his MSNBC commentator position for speculating that Charlie Kirk was shot by someone firing their gun in celebration and for saying, “I always go back to hateful thoughts, lead to hateful words, which then lead to hateful actions. And I think that's the environment we're in that, that people just you can't stop with these sort of awful thoughts you have and then saying these awful words and not expect awful actions to take place and that's the unfortunate environment we're in.” On Thursday, he joined former NBC and CBS anchor Katie Couric on her Substack to attack MSNBC for dismissing him and lamented that the left has made Jimmy Kimmel their free speech champion instead of him. Couric led Dowd with the unintentionally hilarious observation that “MSNBC, to me, kind of, stood apart as a news organization that really encouraged, kind of, civil discourse. And I think what you said was manipulated and misinterpreted. And I don't know, they get criticized, you know, they're, like, featured on Fox News every night, you know. So—” Civil discourse? What about never-ending accusations of Nazism, fascism, racism, sexism, and every other "ism" and phobia is civil?     Couric’s bizarre comments aside, Dowd interrupted to lament, “You know—and you mentioned Jimmy Kimmel. What's amazing and now—if you watch any of their shows in the last 24 hours, all the shows are talking about how like this is awful for America that Jimmy Kimmel was, you know, indefinitely suspended and isn't this awful for America and it's a chilling thing for the First Amendment, and all—they're saying that on every platform.” Dowd was just getting started. Next, he went after Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, “Not one person has said anything about me. Not one person on that network has said they've all gone out of their way to say, "Isn't this horrible what happened to Jimmy Kimmel? Isn’t—" even including Morning Joe and Mika who went after me after the show, basically saying it they were glad I was terminated, and now today they're talking about how awful it is for our country that somebody like Jimmy Kimmel can't say what he said and he is indefinitely suspended, and not an iota about what their employer just did to another employee.” According to the liberal perspective, Jimmy Kimmel was yanked off the air because ABC and/or its affiliates were bullied by President Donald Trump and FCC Chairman Brendan Carr. That explanation has its problems, mainly in that ABC’s parent company, Disney, was willing to let Kimmel keep hosting the show, but his planned monologue that would’ve brutally attacked his critics was deemed too volatile in the current moment. Even still, the FCC has no authority over cable and therefore no authority over MSNBC. The network made its own decision, and not even liberals can pretend there was unconstitutional pressure applied in MSNBC’s case. Nevertheless, Couric wondered, “Did you hear from any of the anchors or correspondents?” Dowd’s answer did not inspire confidence in MSNBC’s on-air talent, “Some of them. Yeah. I mean, and all of them, all the ones that I heard from, were like, ‘I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. This is awful. I can't believe this has happened. I can't believe this has happened. This is horrible. This is horrible. It doesn't say, it doesn't say good things about our company.’ This is from anchors on air. ‘That doesn't say good things about our company. And, you know, it's not a good thing. And I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry.’ And that's what they say.” Earlier, Dowd tried to defend himself by saying that he was commenting on a breaking news story when we did not know what we would eventually learn. Of course, that doesn’t explain “hateful thoughts lead to hateful words.” Here is a transcript for the September 18 show: Katie Couric’s Substack 9/18/2025 KATIE COURIC: MSNBC, to me, kind of, stood apart as a news organization that really encouraged, kind of, civil discourse. And I think what you said was manipulated and misinterpreted. And I don't know, they get criticized, you know, they're, like, featured on Fox News every night, you know. So— MATTHEW DOWD: You know—and you mentioned Jimmy Kimmel. What's amazing and now—if you watch any of their shows in the last 24 hours, all the shows are talking about how like this is awful for America that Jimmy Kimmel was, you know, indefinitely suspended and isn't this awful for America and it's a chilling thing for the First Amendment, and all — they're saying that on every platform. Not one person has said anything about me. Not one person on that network has said they've all gone out of their way to say, "Isn't this horrible what happened to Jimmy Kimmel? Isn’t—" even including Morning Joe and Mika who went after me after the show, basically saying it they were glad I was terminated, and now today they're talking about how awful it is for our country that somebody like Jimmy Kimmel can't say what he said and he is indefinitely suspended, and not an iota about what their employer just did to another employee. COURIC: Did you hear from any of the anchors or correspondents? DOWD: Some of them. Yeah. I mean, and all of them, all the ones that I heard from, were like, "I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. This is awful. I can't believe this has happened. I can't believe this has happened. This is horrible. This is horrible. It doesn't say, it doesn't say good things about our company.” This is from anchors on air. “That doesn't say good things about our company. And, you know, it's not a good thing. And I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry. I'm so sorry." And that's what they say.

TRANSGENDER TERRORISM: A growing trend that the FBI must address NOW

The Oversight Project is unleashing a new campaign to urge the FBI to declare transgender ideology, motivated violence, and extremism as domestic terrorism — and Mike Howell, president of the Oversight Project, believes the move couldn’t be more necessary.“It’s a terrible and growing sustained trend in American life right now. The transgender ideology-inspired violence and extremism is now domestic terrorism,” Howell tells BlazeTV host Jill Savage on “Blaze News: The Mandate.”To best explain the phenomena, Howell believes one must “go back 10 years.”“When then-candidate Trump was running for president, one of his chief criticisms of then-President Obama was that Obama refused to say the words ‘radical Islamic extremism.’ So Trump took him to task over and over again,” Howell explains.According to Howell, Trump was essentially making the case “that if you can’t define the enemy, you cannot defeat the enemy.”“President Trump was right then, but now there’s another enemy on the scene. And it’s beyond obvious that transgender ideology is inspiring a very specific type of domestic terrorism,” he says. This has been made abundantly clear via recent school shootings and, even more recently, through the assassination of Charlie Kirk.“My colleague Roger Severino has an estimate out there: 50% of school mass shootings over the last 10 years have come from transgender ideologically motivated individuals. These are people who believe that if you do not affirm their gender identity or whatever their delusions are, that you are harming them physically, that it is a violent event,” he explains.“Therefore, in their minds, their illogical and mentally ill minds, they can justify their own violence against others,” he says, adding, “That is a specific form of domestic terrorism that we’re seeing emerge, and it is time for the government to diagnose this.”Want more from 'Blaze News: The Mandate'?To enjoy more provocative opinions, expert analysis, and breaking stories you won’t see anywhere else, subscribe to BlazeTV — the largest multi-platform network of voices who love America, defend the Constitution, and live the American dream.
