President Trump Issues Statement After Phone Call With Xi Jinping, Says He Will Visit China
President Trump said he had a “very productive call” with Chinese President Xi Jinping and said they made progress on several important issues.
“I just completed a very productive call with President Xi of China. We made progress on many very important issues including Trade, Fentanyl, the need to bring the War between Russia and Ukraine to an end, and the approval of the TikTok Deal,” Trump said.
“I also agreed with President Xi that we would meet at the APEC Summit in South Korea, that I would go to China in the early part of next year, and that President Xi would, likewise, come to the United States at an appropriate time. The call was a very good one, we will be speaking again by phone, appreciate the TikTok approval, and both look forward to meeting at APEC!” he added.

Separately, Chinese state media said Trump and Xi had a “candid and in-depth exchange of views” and that the call was “pragmatic, positive, and constructive.” Xi said the U.S. should avoid taking restrictive trade measures “to prevent undermining the outcomes achieved through multiple rounds of consultations,” according to a readout published by Xinhua, China’s state-run news agency.
On TikTok, Xi said the Chinese government “respects the will of companies and is pleased to see companies conduct business negotiations on the basis of market rules and reach solutions that comply with Chinese laws and regulations and balance interests,” the readout said.
“We hope the U.S. side will provide an open, fair, and non-discriminatory business environment for Chinese companies investing in the United States,” it said.
This was the first call between Trump and Xi since June, when Trump said they had spoken for about 90 minutes in a discussion focused on trade.
“We have a deal on TikTok. I’ve reached a deal with China. I’m going to speak to President Xi on Friday to confirm everything up. We made a very good trade deal and I hope good for both countries,” Trump told reporters before the call.

BBC shared further details:
TikTok, which is run by Chinese firm Bytedance, was previously told it had to sell its US operations or risk being shut down.
Trump, however, delayed implementing the ban four times since it was first announced in January, and earlier this week extended the deadline again to December.
In his post, Trump wrote the two “made progress” on trade issues and would meet at the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit in South Korea, scheduled to begin at the end of October.
That, he said, would be followed by a visit to China and a subsequent visit by Xi to the US.
The president provided no further details on the TikTok deal, which he said earlier this week that the call would confirm.
That deal will reportedly see a group of US firms- said to include Oracle – that would enable TikTok to continue operating in the US, using algorithm technology licensed from ByteDance.
