The movie stars brothers Edwin and Aldis Hodge (the latter of whom played Hawkman in Black Adam) and was also written by them‚ along with Jonathan Keasey. Danielle Deadwyler (who has a stellar performance in HBO’s Station Eleven) stars in the film as well‚ with Kourosh Ahari (The Night) directing. Here’s the official synopsis: Parallel follows the story of Vanessa (Danielle Deadwyler) who takes refuge at her family’s lake house to grieve after suffering the loss of her child. Accompanied by her husband‚ Alex (Aldis Hodge)‚ and his brother‚ Martel (Edwin Hodge)‚ Vanessa attempts to regain her sense of normalcy after the tragedy. But soon after their arrival‚ she experiences an aberration when she is attacked by a parallel universe’s version of herself. Faced with the reality that multiverses exist‚ she must reconcile the fact that these parallel gates will either hold the key to releasing her grief or trapping her forever. The trailer below expands on this premise‚ with at least one version of Vanessa wanting to search other realities to find one where her baby is still alive. There also is a “kill or be killed” situation‚ as apparently only one version of a person can exist in a given space or bad things… happen? The movie has earned a cult status over the years‚ and Warner Bros. is looking to cash in on that with a remake‚ with none other than Tim Burton at the helm. Deadline broke the news of Burton’s involvement. This isn’t the first time‚ however‚ that Burton has tackled material like this—the director hasn’t shied away from telling stories about powerful women‚ and he also directed Mars Attacks! in 1996‚ a film starring Jack Nicholson‚ Annette Bening‚ Natalie Portman‚ Danny DeVito‚ and Michael J. Fox that is a reimagining of pulpy 1950s sci-fi. The reboot of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman also has Gillian Flynn on board to pen the script. Flynn authored the books Gone Girl and Sharp Objects‚ and wrote their on-screen adaptations. She also created the series Utopia‚ and is working on a limited series adaptation of her book Dark Places. The remake of Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman is still in its early days‚ so no news yet on who will play the titular fifty-foot woman (ed. note: fingers crossed for Monica Bellucci) or the rest of the cast‚ much less on when the film will go into production. President Joe Biden claimed Tuesday that he doesn’t have the “power” to fix the crisis at the southern border‚ but four former federal border and immigration enforcement officials told the Daily Caller News Foundation that he in fact does have the power to fix it. Most of what Biden needs to do is reverse his earlier repeals of effective Trump administration policies that coincided with lower illegal immigration‚ these former officials said. Chris Clem‚ former chief patrol agent of the Yuma Sector in Arizona‚ thinks that “Remain in Mexico‚” formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols‚ is one of many effective programs that Biden can implement with executive authority. “He could use that same authority to say we’re going to implement the Migrant Protection Protocols‚ the way it was intended. We’re going to implement the prompt asylum-case review policies that we had done in the past. We are going to reissue the contracts that had been funded before to secure the border. We are going to go ahead and open up more detention space for ICE so we can detain people longer‚” Clem said. “These are all things that the executive branch has‚ so he has the authority to do it. He doesn’t need any additional authorities. And I think if he was moving that direction‚ Congress would have no problem to fund him appropriately.” Trump’s former acting ICE director‚ Tom Homan‚ cited Section 212(f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act‚ which authorizes the president “to suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens” whose entry he “finds … would be detrimental to the interests of the United States.” “He has done all he can do to destroy the most secure border in this nation’s history and create a significant national security vulnerability that he will end up suffering from‚” Homan said of Biden. Under Biden’s leadership‚ Border Patrol has recorded record levels of illegal immigration at the southern border‚ where agents recorded more than 2.2 million migrant encounters in fiscal year 2022 and more than 2 million in fiscal year 2023‚ according to federal data. Between October and December‚ Border Patrol recorded more than 629‚000 encounters with migrants crossing the southern border illegally‚ according to the data.
