A former high school girls’ volleyball player who was injured by a trans-identifying male player pushed back Thursday on a Democrat congresswoman’s claim that trans-identifying people are not hurting people. Two weeks after he was last seen in Nashville‚ missing University of Missouri student Riley Strain’s body has been found in the Cumberland River. Nashville police said Strain was seen at 9:52 p.m. on Gay Street‚ according to the Post. A local homeless man also claimed to see a “very‚ very intoxicated” Strain nearly fall into the river‚ the Post reported previously. The final ping on Strain’s phone came between 10 and 10:30 p.m. near the sheriff’s office and the river‚ the Post reported. His final text was sent to a woman he was seeing‚ which said “Good lops [sic]” in response to her asking how he was doing on the trip. It is unclear what Strain meant by the text. Truth Social‚ the social media company founded by former President Donald Trump‚ is set to go public as soon as next week after shareholders voted Friday to approve a merger with a shell company. The merger means those who hold stock in Digital World Acquisition‚ a special-purpose acquisition company (SPAC)‚ will now be shareholders of Trump Media &; Technology Group‚ the parent company of Truth Social‚ The New York Times reported. The deal will also provide Trump Media with more than $300 million‚ and the company will replace Digital World Acquisition on the stock market under the ticker DJT‚ Trump’s initials. Based on Digital World Acquisition’s current price of nearly $42 a share‚ Trump Media will hit the market with a value of around $5 billion‚ meaning Trump’s 60% stake in the company will boost his net worth by more than $3 billion. Thanks to Trump supporters turning Digital World Acquisition into a “meme stock‚” shares for the company have skyrocketed since January‚ moving up from around $17 to where it currently stands at around $42. While the former president stands ready to make billions of dollars‚ the merger likely won’t result in an immediate windfall for him. The remains of a man found burned and decapitated 45 years ago have finally been identified thanks to advancements in DNA technology. The remains have been identified as Joseph A. Caliva‚ who was 27 years old when he went missing. It is still unclear who killed him. In 1979‚ a boy was riding his horse in the Chicago suburb Barrington Hills when he came across a horrific scene: the burned remains of a decapitated man‚ CBS News reported. Police responded that found the partially burned torso of an adult white male‚ the Barrington Hills Police Department (BHPD) said in a press release. Former Barrington Hill Police Chief Al Schuld told WGN that he still remembered the day the remains were found. “It was hard to recognize for one thing because it was burnt‚” Schuld said. “I can still remember the smell. The upper torso‚ then the bottom part of the torso and then the legs were there but there were no hands or head or nothing like that. The whole area was checked but we never did find that.” “It was like‚ oh my god‚ why would‚ how could somebody do that to a human being?” Schuld added. Investigators determined that the man was killed somewhere else and brought to this location‚ and without any identifying characteristics‚ they could only label him as “John Doe.” Last year‚ the BHPD sent the man’s DNA to Othram‚ a Texas-based lab that specializes in forensic DNA evidence and forensic genetic genealogy. Othram has been responsible for identifying victims in numerous cold cases over the past few years‚ including the identification of the Golden State Killer. A relative of the deceased man‚ Linda Gressick‚ was identified as Caliva’s half-sister. Gressick told investigators that she grew up in Chicago and that Caliva was a former Marine who was working for Chicago’s Streets and Sanitation department when he disappeared‚ CBS reported. She told WGN that she knew immediately why the BHPD was calling her. “I said right away to the detective‚ ‘You found my brother‚ didn’t you?’” Gressick told the outlet. “He was gone for about four days when we started to realize something was wrong‚ my dad started to realize something was wrong because he didn’t show up at work‚” Gressick added. “It was four days past his paycheck‚ which would have been on the first.” She said the family searched for Caliva but weren’t initially fearful that he was dead. “I would say at least two or three weeks after he disappeared‚ they probably were holding out hope that he was staying with a friend or something like that because that was his nature‚” she told WGN. “He might have stayed at a cousin’s house‚ or something. They probably held off and then finally filed a missing person’s report.” Gressick provided investigators a DNA sample‚ which matched Caliva’s. “It’s very unsettling‚” Gressick said. “I thought I was ok with him being gone and I know everybody’s goal was closure. It seems like less closure now than when there was before I found out. I’m hoping to find out more about what happened and everything.” Police are asking that anyone with information on this case contact the BHPD Investigations‚ and reference the case number 1979-2050.

Beyoncé fans were delighted to see an advertisement for her upcoming album‚ “Cowboy Carter‚” being projected onto the Guggenheim Museum in New York City just over a week before its March 29 release. The only problem is that the projection was not authorized by the venue. Advertisements for the album were seen projected on several museums besides the Guggenheim‚ including the Whitney Museum‚ New Museum‚ and the Museum of Art and Design. Museum reps shared in a statement with ARTnews that they did not authorize their building for that usage. They said Guggenheim staff “was not informed about and did not authorize this activation. However‚ we invite the public — including Beyoncé and her devoted fans — to visit the museum May 16–20 when we present projections by artist Jenny Holzer on the facade of our iconic building to celebrate the opening of her major exhibition.” The projected image said‚ “This ain’t a country album. Generation Z is riddled with mental health issues‚ but some have doubts that more therapy is really the answer. Gen Z‚ often defined as young people between ages 12 and 27 has worse mental health‚ lower self-confidence‚ and generally more dissatisfaction with life than older generations‚ one study found last year. Overall‚ only 33% of young adults say their mental health is “excellent” or “good” compared to 48% of other adults‚ according to the study. Similarly‚ another survey from 2022 found that Americans from 18 to 24 report high rates of mental health challenges‚ impediments to effective work‚ and worries about the future. A whopping 55% of Gen Z young adults 18 to 24 also say they have either been diagnosed with or have received treatment for mental illness‚ well above the rate of older groups‚ the 2022 survey found. The pandemic also notably increased the mental health crisis among both young adults and children. Author Abigail Shrier posited recently that the youngest generation might be less resilient because they are encouraged to focus on their bad feelings under the guise of working them out. “Millennials thought they could do anything. They were the Mark Zuckerberg generation‚” Shrier said during an appearance on Joe Rogan’s podcast last month on the release day for her latest book‚ “Bad Therapy: Why the Kids Aren’t Growing Up.” “We’re not seeing that with these young people. They don’t want to be in charge. They’re afraid‚” Shrier said. Therapy‚ she suggested‚ might not be helping as much as we think it is. Shrier cited studies where teens who were taught coping techniques for emotional regulation became even sadder and more anxious. “The reason was regularly ruminating on your bad feelings can make you feel worse‚” Shrier said. “The amazing story of human history is — doesn’t mean it’s not painful‚ but — of resilience. They get on. They aren’t permanently suffering with mental illness.” To be fair‚ some of Gen Z’s anxieties are backed in reality‚ such as their mounting concerns about their financial future‚ but this is all the more reason therapy might not be the answer to dealing with these outside problems. Inflation has spiked over the last several years‚ and wage growth has not kept up. Housing prices continue to rise‚ making rent unaffordable in many areas for entry level workers and putting home ownership out of reach of even young people with established careers. When Gen Z looks back at their parents’ and grandparents’ generations they wonder whether they will ever experience financial security in the same way. Only 37% of Gen Z workers said they believe most people in the country have economic opportunities‚ a data point that showcases the generation’s potent economic pessimism‚ the 2022 survey found. About 26% of Gen Z workers said they think their pay does not allow them a good quality of life‚ compared to 20% of older workers. A whopping 77% of Gen Z workers said they were looking for a new job‚ nearly double the rate of older workers. Dovetailing with Gen Z’s pessimism about their financial future‚ they also tend to distrust political and societal institutions‚ including Congress‚ the news‚ the presidency‚ police‚ and large technology companies‚ a Gallup study from last year showed. “Science” is the only institution trusted by a majority of Gen Z young people. This distrust seems to grow as young people grow up and approach their early 20s — younger Gen Z kids ages 12 to 18 who are still in K-12 school are more trusting of institutions than those over 18. Against this challenging economic backdrop‚ the newest adult generation’s lack of motivation is somewhat understandable.
