A cat went from lying in the bushes to having the time of her life, doing everything she couldn't before.
PickleAP MillerOn a rare Saturday off from work, AP Miller was walking home when she spotted a cat crying in the bushes. "Normally, if I were to make eye contact with a cat outside, they would run away. But this one kept crying," AP shared with Love Meow.The cat moved in an unusual way when AP slowly approached her. "I knew something was wrong. I phoned a friend who told me to just call animal control, but I knew this cat needed help."She gently scooped up the cat and placed her in a box she had gotten from a nearby store.
AP MillerShe then rushed the cat to the emergency vet, where they discovered the cat was not microchipped and needed more care than anticipated.At around 3-5 years old, the calico was emaciated, weighing only four pounds, and unable to walk. "We learned this was from a fracture on both sides of her pelvis. She had a cut on her nose that was filled with dirt."
AP Miller"I spent all night at the emergency vet, waiting to see if she had a chance."Initially, they were unsure if the cat would survive, but she showed her strong will to live. With plenty of rest and good food, she made great strides and soon began using her legs to walk. "There's clearly something special about this sweet girl."
AP Miller"She was determined to live from the moment I met her—she was brave enough to ask for help from any passerby. I named her Pickle because she was really 'in a pickle' when I found her."Since Pickle needed care beyond what AP could provide, a neighbor connected her to Tails High, a volunteer-based cat rescue. They promptly offered their support, believing Pickle deserved the best chance.
AP Miller"She fought hard to recover, even though she often fought the crate rest that was healing her."Within months, Pickle transformed from stumbling with every step to running with renewed strength. Her playful nature started to shine, and she blossomed into an affectionate cuddle bug.
AP Miller"She was immediately very cuddly and mischievous as she could be, knocking over plants and digging in their soil. My best friend and I joke that she's a chaos gremlin because she loves to do wild things like jump on counters, do catnip zoomies, and literally climb walls."After all the mischief-making, Pickle enjoys snuggling with AP, melting into her arms.
AP MillerPickle may be a bit shy around new people, but she adores the company of her feline and canine friends. "She became quick friends with my former resident dog and foster fail Croissant (the cat)."Feeling like herself again, Pickle loves rolling around, flaunting her now plump belly, chomping on her favorite treats, and chasing after toys.
Pickle and WalterAP MillerThe moment Pickle was able to use the litter box on her own, AP cheered with joy. It was then she realized she could never part with Pickle. "I wanted to be there for her every step of the way."During that time, Pickle and Croissant became bonded friends, bringing endless laughter and happiness to the family.
Croissant and PickleAP MillerThe once-emaciated cat now proudly sports a round belly, perfectly matched by her larger-than-life personality.AP took a chance on the calico when she needed it the most, and now, Pickle is thriving in her forever home with a clean bill of health, boundless energy, and so much love to give.
