Turley Slams Choice Of ‘Hand-Picked’ Trump Judge Who Donated To Biden

Speaking on “Fox & Friends” on Monday, George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley implicitly criticized the choice of Judge Juan Manuel Merchan for the Donald Trump business records trial in New York, pointing out that the judge had made a political contribution to Joe Biden. “A lot of people are confused by this because it’s very clear that they say you can’t make political contributions,” Turley commented. “Well, he did. And the fact that it is ‘de minimis’ or small, really, I think, misses the point. You make donations like that to show your support, that’s what that $15 did. “ “What’s also concerning for many is that Merchan was not randomly selected; he was hand-picked as the judge for this case, and many of us don’t understand it,” he continued. “You’ve got a judge who is a donor to the president, whose daughter is a major Democratic operative, you would think this would be an easy call. There are plenty of other judges.” Merchan’s daughter Loren serves as president of the political consulting firm Authentic Campaigns, which represents Rep. Adam Schiff (D-CA), the lead prosecutor in the first impeachment trial of former President Trump. “Schiff’s campaign for US Senate scored an eye-popping $20 million in aid since he began soliciting donations off the presumptive GOP presidential front-runner’s unprecedented 34-count indictment last April, according to Federal Election Commission records,” The New York Post noted. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “So he’s not going to be held accountable to the bar association, but this is one of the many aspects of this trial that are troubling for those who view this as the weaponization of the system,” Turley opined of Merchan. Turley also criticized Merchan for his handling of the case, saying, “He’s allowed this jury to hear over and over again about election violations. Donald Trump did not commit an election violation. There’s no such violation in this case connected to his payments to [Michael] Cohen. My assumption is that the jury thinks that there were and that you’re allowing Cohen and [former National Enquirer publisher David] Pecker effectively to inform the jury on federal election law until you issue an instruction.”

AMC Mocked For Giving ‘Goodfellas’ A ‘Cultural Stereotypes’ Trigger Warning

AMC Mocked For Giving ‘Goodfellas’ A ‘Cultural Stereotypes’ Trigger Warning

AMC is being mocked for placing a “cultural stereotypes” warning on the classic 1990 Martin Scorsese mobster drama, “Goodfellas.” Anyone tuning in to the film on the streaming service AMC+ sees the following message before the movie begins: “This film includes language and/or cultural stereotypes that are inconsistent with today’s standards of inclusion and tolerance and may offend some viewers.” AMC provided The New York Post with a statement about the warning. The company said they started adding this content warning four years ago. “In 2020, we began adding advisories in front of certain films that include racial or cultural references that some viewers might find offensive,” a rep for AMC wrote. Several individuals weighed in on the warning.  Michael Franzese, a former captain of the Colombo crime family, told the outlet he didn’t agree with adding the warning. “We don’t need anyone protecting mob guys,” he told the Post. “It’s crazy.” Former NYPD officer Bo Dietl, who played a police officer in “Goodfellas,” also disagreed with the messaging.  “The f***ing political correctness has f***ing taken everything away. This is how life was back then. It was not a clean beautiful thing. You can’t cleanse history. If you want to tell true history, you gotta tell it the way it is,” he told the outlet. Fans noted that similar films streaming on AMC+, including “The Godfather,” did not include the same warning. That popular movie about the mob only has the more common and generic “viewer discretion” language that mentions “brief nudity, strong language, and intense violence.” “Goodfellas” is considered one of the best mob movies ever made. Actor Joe Pesci received an Academy Award for his portrayal of the gangster Tommy DeVito. The film also features Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, and Paul Sorvino.   The United States Library of Congress classified the film “culturally significant” and added it to the National Film Registry in 2000. Other studios are also adding content warnings to older movies. For example, Disney added disclaimers to classic films on its streaming service to warn viewers that some scenes contain “negative depictions” and “mistreatment of people or cultures.” Classic films that had warnings added include “Dumbo” (1941), “Peter Pan” (1953), “Swiss Family Robinson” (1960), and “The Aristocats” (1970), as The Daily Wire previously reported.

Google, Meta Join Big Tech Firms Opposing NY Online Child Safety Bills

Google and Meta have joined other Big Tech firms to try to kill two New York bills that would protect children from becoming addicted to social media apps. the Stop Addictive Feeds Exploitation (SAFE) for Kids Act would protect children by limiting social media companies’ ability to use addictive feeds keeping kids addicted to their devices. The Act requires parental consent before a social media company offers children addictive feeds and bars social media companies from pushing notifications to children and teens between midnight and 6 a.m. without parental consent. The New York Child Data Protection Act protects minors from having their personal data accessed. “A group of Big Tech firms, advocacy groups and companies from other sectors have spent $823,235 lobbying Albany lawmakers through mid-March,” The New York Post reported, adding that Big Tech’s expenditure in opposing the bills “is expected to surpass the $1 million mark when the next round of disclosures surfaces next month.” The Post stated that Facebook and Meta have “spent the most on lobbying related to the tech bills,” adding, “Other top spenders include Google and TikTok.” Tech firms have hit back, citing fears that the legislation would stifle freedom of speech, online privacy for teens, limit internet access for migrants and other underserved communities, and essentially disable algorithms that help to crack down on hate speech. According to State Sen. Andrew Gounardes, a co-sponsor of the bills, a “whisper campaign” has been mounted in Albany against the bills, “It certainly makes the job a lot harder, because these companies, with limitless resources, are able to hire armies of lobbyists who just camp out in the capital all day. Legislators come and go and these folks are whispering in everyone’s ear,” he said. Gounardes said “significant bipartisan support for both bills in the Senate,” exists, adding, “At this point, I feel reasonably confident that we are going to be able to do something significant for kids on social media this legislative session.” “Teens move interchangeably between many websites and apps, and different laws in different states will mean teens and their parents have inconsistent experiences online,” a Meta spokesperson declared. “As we continue working with New York lawmakers, it’s crucial that we avoid quick fixes and, instead, support legislation that actually empowers parents and supports teens online.”

Janet Yellen Calls For US, EU To Use Russian Assets To Pay For Ukraine War

Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen called for the U.S. and European Union to form a plan to seize or leverage Russian assets to offset Ukraine’s costs in fending off Russia’s invasion. The U.S. and E.U. have access to about $280 billion worth of frozen Russian assets that Yellen and other officials hope to tap for Ukraine’s benefit. In remarks planned to be delivered in a speech in Frankfurt, Germany, on Tuesday, Yellen called for greater cooperation between the U.S. and E.U. to tap those resources, according to excerpts of Yellen’s speech viewed by Bloomberg. “It’s vital and urgent that we collectively find a way forward to unlock the value of Russian sovereign assets immobilized in our jurisdictions for the benefit of Ukraine,” Yellen’s remarks said, according to Bloomberg. The Treasury secretary also called for continued aid to Ukraine. “It’s also critical that we ensure Ukraine has the support it needs to equip its military, fund critical services, and ultimately rebuild in the medium- to long-term,” the speech continued. The proposal to seize Russian assets to offset the cost of the war for Ukraine has earned critics in the West who are concerned that such a move would destabilize international financial markets. If the risk to foreign assets held in the U.S. or Europe becomes too great, countries may move to reduce or eliminate their exposure to such recriminations from Western governments. The result would be a much more fragmentary global financial system. Ukraine has lost ground recently to a renewed Russian offensive in the eastern part of the country. Russia has surged troops into the region, especially in the northeast near Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city behind Kyiv. Ukraine’s military has struggled to hold ground as it runs low on munitions, supplies, and soldiers. CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP “The situation is on the edge,” Gen. Kyrylo Budanov, the head of Ukraine’s military intelligence agency, told The New York Times last week. “Every hour this situation moves toward critical.” Budanov delivered his assessment of the situation from a bunker in Kharkiv. He said that the Ukrainian military lines are strained from a lack of troops. “All of our forces are either here or in Chasiv Yar,” he added, referring to a Ukrainian stronghold about 120 miles to the south of the city, also under threat from Russian forces. “I’ve used everything we have. Unfortunately, we don’t have anyone else in the reserves.” President Joe Biden signed legislation for the U.S. to provide Ukraine with about $60 billion more in military aid last month.

Guinea Pig Gets Front Row Seat To “Clair De Lune” & Her Reaction Is Beyond Precious

With so many types of music in the world to enjoy, it’s no wonder we each have our own unique taste. But did you know that the same can be said for our animal friends? If you’ve ever had a pet, you may have already noticed this. Just like humans, there are certain sounds that our pets love… or hate. One pianist’s guinea pig, Dindin, is quite fond of the music her human plays on the piano. Dindin enjoys her music so much, in fact, that her social media accounts are full of adorable videos proving just that. In them, this adorable guinea pig can be seen lounging on a soft towel that’s been placed on the piano. Dindin’s human is careful to be extra gentle when playing. This way, the tiny creature can enjoy her front row seat without being disturbed. In turn, Dindin is lulled into a tranquil state that seems oh-so peaceful. @dindin.inparis Debussy:clair de lune I really enjoy playing music for Dindin, she completely relaxes and lies down when she heard this music of Debussy #guineapigsoftiktok #guineapigs #fyp #tiktok #piano #pianotutorial #pianocover #love #foryou ♬ 原聲 – Dindin In the video above, Dindin enjoys Clair De Lune by Claude Debussy. It’s safe to say that this guinea pig is quite fond of classical music. If you know anything about guinea pigs, this probably makes sense. These adorable creatures tend to be sensitive to sounds. So, it makes sense that they gravitate toward tunes that are soft and airy. Sweet Guinea Pig Adores When Her Human Plays the Piano While Dindin enjoys the concerts her mom puts on for her, countess people around the world are admiring her while she does it! “Idk why but seeing how your guinea pig lay down so peacefully made me burst into tears,” someone in the comments shares. “My guinea pig also loved music and would sleep to it.” “Oh to be a guinea pig whose owner plays music for [them],” another says.
