Butler Maps: Historic Route 66 Official Touring Maps
Spreading out the Route 66 maps gives a sense of breadth and scale.
If you’re looking for trip planning assistance, the state, regional, and thematic motorcycle maps from Butler Maps are fantastic resources. The founders and creators of Butler Maps are passionate motorcycle enthusiasts who ride and rate the best roads and highlight them on waterproof maps so you can plan the best routes. And all Butler Maps routes are available on REVER, the trip planning and navigation app, which creates maps for the tour stories you read in Rider.
Butler Maps offers maps of the Best Paved Roads (G1 Series), Best Dirt Roads, Backcountry Discovery Routes, BDR-X routes, and more. Coming soon are maps of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Natchez Trace Parkway.
Also available are special two-map sets, including American Classics, which includes 30 iconic motorcycle rides, and Historic Route 66. Both sets are divided into Eastern and Western segments.
When Rider’s EIC Greg Drevenstedt interviewed Butler Maps cofounder Scott Calhoun for Episode 80 of the Rider Magazine Insider Podcast, Calhoun said he spent two years of riding and research to create the Historic Route 66 maps. Now in their second edition, they were developed with the assistance of Jerry McClanahan, a Route 66 expert who is the author of EZ66 Guide for Travelers.
The Historic Route 66 maps show the overall Eastern and Western segments on one side, with points of interest, classic cafes and diners, and unique hotels and motels listed by state. On the other side, each segment is divided into sections with more detailed maps and other info, including key landmarks. Since most of Route 66 is better known for history than for good riding, Butler Maps also provides 12 side trips or excursions that include highly rated roads.
The Historic Route 66 two-map set is available for $39.95. Individual maps, map sets, and map bundles can be purchased directly at the Butler Maps website.
