A family observes a man standing in a barbershop who looks exactly like their late grandfather. They find out later that the grandfather frequented that same barbershop.I received the following account:"In 2017‚ I wrote to you about my grandfather who passed away after making his "The Bus Is Full" comment. Well‚ I didn't mention something else strange that took place within the year after his passing (sometime in 1986).My family was visiting my grandmother (his widow) who still lived in the same house that she and my grandfather had always lived in. I remember we left to drive home just after nightfall‚ and to get home we had to drive through a busy "main street" through the center of town. So we're driving along and stopping frequently as a result of the numerous traffic lights on the route. As our car was stopped at one‚ I heard my mother say to my father‚ "Oh my goodness‚ he looks just like your father! In the window over there!" She pointed to the window of a barbershop on the other side of the street. My father‚ my brother‚ and I craned our necks to look in the barbershop. Even though it was on the other side of the street‚ it wasn't more than 20 feet away‚ and the contrast of the dark night to the bright lights within gave us a very vivid look at everything inside.Inside‚ standing at the window looking out‚ was a man who was a dead ringer for my grandfather. He was the same height‚ had identical facial features‚ the same hair‚ and the same thick-rimmed glasses that he always wore. However‚ what jumped out the most was the jacket he was wearing. It didn't look like just any jacket‚ but the EXACT one that my grandfather loved to wear: a light tan suede-like one with woolen‚ sheep-like trim along both sides of the zipper and along the collar.He was just standing at the large window (which basically took up the entire front wall) staring straight out into the street. "Wow‚ it does‚" my father said‚ but if he was any more amazed than that I'm not sure because he never brought it up again‚ at least in my presence. After a couple of seconds‚ the light turned green and our car propelled forward - the man in the window still looking straight ahead.To make it more interesting‚ the next time I saw my grandmother I told her that we had seen someone in the window of the barbershop on that street who looked just like Grandpa. Since she hadn't witnessed it she couldn't make a big deal about it‚ but she did say that was the barbershop he had always gone to for a haircut. Now I'm not sure who the man in the window was‚ but it's still something I think about to this day‚ over 30 years later." I read the following unexplained account on my Creepy Christmas Cheer Show last night. It is one of the strangest‚ though enlightening stories that I have received about the holiday."Hello. I have a weird story I'd like to present for your consideration. There is no explanation as to what occurred‚ though I personally believe the supernatural was at play.It was the Christmas season in 1958. My parents and I lived in a small home in eastern Tennessee. We survived on what little money my mother could make doing odd jobs for other people in the area. My Father was wounded during the Korean War‚ and he received a monthly pension from the government. I was 8 years old at the time. After school‚ I would work around the house and help care for my father. I knew that money was tight and figured there wouldn't be any gift-giving that year‚ but we made the best with what we had.A few days before Christmas Day‚ I was lying in bed and started hearing noises coming from outside my window. It sounded like children playing and laughing. I got out of bed and looked out the window. I noticed several blue lights bobbing about in my mother’s garden. I went and woke my mother. She got up and we walked out onto the porch. We both clearly witnessed the blue lights moving up &; down above the garden. It was very cold‚ so we went back into the house and watched from my bedroom window. The lights were there for over an hour and continued moving about. We were very tired‚ so we both went back to sleep.In the morning‚ we sat at the table eating breakfast. My parents were discussing the blue lights. My father said that he heard of a similar occurrence when he was a boy. The deacon at his church commented to several of his congregation that he noticed blue lights outside the rectory one evening. His explanation was that these were angels watching over the church. The next few nights I watched for the lights‚ but they never returned.On Christmas Eve a few family friends stopped by the house during the day to wish us happy holidays. My friend Larry came over also. We listened to the radio for most of the afternoon. Neither one of us had ever had a television in our home. I mentioned that it would be nice to have one‚ but I knew that we could never afford it. I told Larry about the blue lights and the story that my father had told me. Larry said that his Uncle Joe told him the same story about the blue lights outside the church rectory‚ so I figured that must have happened. Larry also said that his Uncle Joe mentioned that there were 'little people' with big heads and large eyes who lived in the mountains. I asked Larry if his Uncle Joe had ever seen these 'little people.' Larry said that he didn't think so.That evening my parents and I were sitting in the front room when we heard what sounded like footsteps on the porch. My father went to investigate‚ but he didn't see anything unusual. I then told them what Larry's Uncle Joe had told him. My Father just smiled and said that old Joe told a lot of 'good' stories though most were just not true. My Father then said that he remembered a story that old Joe told him one day.My Father said that old Joe told him that the 'little people' of the mountain would bring gifts to folks they liked. He said that old Joe thought that the 'little people' were really aliens because he had seen lights fly off the mountain at night. I prodded my father to tell me more‚ but he said old Joe told too many stories that were flat-out lies. It was about 10 PM so I was sent off to bed since we were going to church on Christmas morning.I woke in the middle of the night to get a drink of water. I didn’t notice the time‚ but I believe it was around 1 AM or so. I walked out of my room and into the hallway. I noticed that same giggling and laughter I had heard the night I witnessed the blue lights. The sound was coming from the front room. I slowly walked down the hallway and peered around the corner. There was nothing there‚ but I did see a square shape on the floor by the bookshelf. I turned on the room light. It was a brand-new television set - a Motorola. I remember letting out a scream and hearing my mother running down the hallway. She saw me standing in front of the bookshelf‚ not knowing what was going on. Then she noticed the television. I can still remember the strange look on her face. She turned and ran back into her bedroom yelling all the way. I could hear her asking about the television‚ while my father answered‚ 'What television?'We sat in the front room just staring at the television‚ occasionally looking at each other. We never figured out how it got there. I'd like to think it was the 'little people' in the mountain. In fact‚ that's what old Joe told everybody who'd listen." Friday’s season finale of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher condemned two media bubbles. First‚ the New York Times’s progressive bubble after former editor James Bennet penned a lengthy essay in The Economist recounting the 2020 Tom Cotton op-ed and second‚ the media’s bubble that seeks to blame Israel for the lack of Israeli-Palestinian peace. Novelist‚ podcaster‚ and editor-at-large of Country Highway‚ Walter Kirn declared that the problem is‚ “People who think all reporting is done by Twitter and on Twitter and go straight from the bubble of the Ivy League to the bubble of the New York Times aren't really covering America‚ they're covering their friend set.”     Maher‚ quoting from Bennet‚ followed up by wondering‚ “He says ‘the Times is becoming the publication through which America's progressive elite talks to itself about an American that does not really exist.’ What does that mean‚ a America that does not really exist. Kirn would answer‚ “the America that doesn't exist is the America I live in -- I live in Montana and last year the New York Times sent a reporter out who spent as much time there is people do when they visit Yellowstone.” Elaborating‚ Kirn recalled “they did this story on Montana‚ how Montana took a hard-right turn towards Christian nationalism. Now‚ I’ve lived there for 30 years and I didn't notice that happening around me and in the lead photo‚ there was a rearview mirror‚ it black-and-white‚ the scary black-and-white they use in campaign ads to make people look like the devil and there was a white cross in the mirror as though Montana was the center of the Ku Klux Klan.”  He further added‚ “In the story‚ one of the proofs that it was an ultraconservative state was they said Native Americans have to drive long distances often to vote. Well‚ has anybody been on an Indian reservation‚ I mean they’re huge. Everybody in Montana drives long distances to vote and they created this image of a place that was one big militia meeting.”     Citing another portion of Bennet’s essay‚ Maher called out some of the snowflakes at the Times‚ “he also mentions‚ he said somebody at one point suggested they put a trigger warning in any op-ed that was written by a conservative. That to me is a very different paper than what I grew up with that would never have suggested putting—because a conservative viewpoint‚ you have to be prepared to hear it‚ you can't just read it?” Later‚ Maher would move to a different bubble‚ “The Palestinian people should know: your leaders‚ and the useful idiots on college campuses who are their ‘allies‚’ are not doing you any favors by keeping alive the ‘River to the sea’ myth. I mean‚ where do you think Israel is going? Spoiler alert: nowhere.”  While Maher stated he could sympathize with the Palestinians‚ he accused their media friends of not being willing to tell them the truth‚ “What's happening to Palestinians today is horrible‚ and not just in Gaza‚ in the West Bank‚ too. But wars end with negotiation‚ and what the media glosses over is‚ it's hard to negotiate when the other side's bargaining position is ‘You all die and disappear.’" Yup‚ one side being stuck on 1917 irredentism makes media narratives about Israeli right-wingers building apartment buildings look historically illiterate. LAURA COATES: You know‚ I think people come we often hear whenever you hear of issues in this country‚ someone will stand up and say “well‚ this is not who we are” and then if you actually read history‚ you go “well‚ actually‚ this is exactly who we have been‚” who we'd like to be is something different‚ but when you think about cutting your teeth at the local level‚ all you are saying is you have got to be willing to have an open mind about being intellectually curious enough to ask who‚ what‚ when‚ where‚ why‚ and all the detailed questions and actually not have already written the answer.  That's the key. So‚ when I'm asking someone a question‚ the answer is not just to validate what I’ve already-- it's not a game of Mad Libs‚ right where I need you to say this and I could add my adjective or adverb here‚ you actually have to report it in a way that tells something that is new‚ that’s informative‚ but the echo chamber you're talking about-- happens because people want to be validated‚ not educated most times and they want to feel like what they're saying is not going to be blamed or undermined or canceled‚ they want to know "I'm right" and that's not really consistent with what the news needs to do.  KIRN: But‚ I know what he means‚ the America that doesn't exist is the America I live in -- I live in Montana and last year the New York Times sent a reporter out who spent as much time there is people do when they visit Yellowstone— MAHER: Wait‚ now you're in Montana? A staffer for a Democratic senator has brashly responded to the accusations that he filmed gay sex in a hearing room. A sexually explicit video of two men having gay sex in a U.S. Senate hearing room went viral on Friday. The gay sex reportedly took place inside hearing room 216 in the Hart Senate Office Building.One of the men allegedly in the video is Aidan Maese-Czeropski – an aide for Sen. Ben Cardin‚ a Democrat from Maryland. Maese-Czeropski responded to the allegations on Friday with a statement posted on LinkedIn. He seems to play the victim and hints that he was one of the men having gay sex in a Senate hearing room. "This has been a difficult time for me‚ as I have been attacked for who I love to pursue a political agenda‚" Maese-Czeropski said. "While some of my actions in the past have shown poor judgement‚ I love my job and would never disrespect my workplace."The Dem staffer then seemingly threatened lawsuits‚ "Any attempts to characterize my actions otherwise are fabricated and I will be exploring what legal options are available to me in these matters."Cardin's office told the Daily Caller: “We have seen media reports. As this is a personnel matter and under review‚ we will not be commenting further at this time.”In January‚ Sen. Cardin described the U.S. Capitol building as a "sacred space" because it is an "embodiment of our ideals‚ our aspirations‚ and hopes‚ not just for Americans‚ but also for all humanity." Maese-Czeropski worked in Cardin's office for more than two years and had received multiple promotions‚ according to his LinkedIn page. Maese-Czeropski is also accused of shouting "Free Palestine" at Jewish congressman Max Miller (R-Ohio) while the representative was being interviewed by NBC's Ali Velshii.Miller told the Washington Free Beacon about the confrontation on Wednesday: "We're just having a casual conversation‚ and out of nowhere‚ this guy beelines up to me visibly shaking—he's very upset in my presence because he's a snowflake. And he just comes right back up to me and was like‚ ‘Free Palestine.’ And I was like‚ ‘Okay.’ … I'm not going to give him a reaction because that's what he wants."Miller told the Daily Caller that Maese-Czeropski is the congressional staffer who confronted him. Maese-Czeropski denied ever confronting Miller. "As for the accusations regarding Congressman Max Miller‚ I have never seen the congressman and had no opportunity or cause to yell or confront him‚" he said on Friday. The United Methodist Church is currently in the process of splintering‚ as 7‚000 congregations across the country have decided whether or not to stay or depart from the denomination. The intra-church dispute comes as many congregations have decided to back out of the denomination after years of theological debate about the role of LGBTQ people within the church‚ according to the Associated Press.While the United Methodist Church has banned same-sex marriage and outlawed openly LGBTQ clergy‚ many congregations within the denomination have theologically taken issue with this position. Amid the battle within the denomination‚ a number of conservatives have decided to create the Global Methodist Church.Theologically progressive Christians who decided to stay with the United Methodist Church are expected to try and remove the ban at the next General Conference‚ which is scheduled for the spring of 2024. The Aiken Standard reported that departures started in 2019‚ but they really ramped up this year during regular and special meetings that took place within the denomination.The church has not really taken action against the congregations that have allowed the consecration of LGBTQ clergy or same-sex marriages. This has led to conservative-leaning congregations deciding to get out of the denomination.Bishop Karen Oliveto‚ who is homosexual‚ said‚ "People aren't upset at those bishops who were closeted. It was okay for them to not tell the truth. But they're upset at me for living openly in love and joy?""How can we say no to love and joy as a church?"While the Book of Disciplines "implore[s] families and churches not to reject or condemn lesbian and gay members and friends‚" Oliveto believes that element has started to crumble.As a result of the fallout‚ many departing congregations have decided to join the Global Methodist Church — a primarily conservative Methodist movement. However‚ there are also those that have decided to remain independent following their departure from the United Methodist Church.A report from the Public Religion Research Institute recently discovered that there has been an uptick in Americans who no longer are affiliated with any particular religion.According to the report‚ those unaffiliated with any religion shot up to 27% in 2022‚ which is an 11% increase from 2006. A staggering 30% of those surveyed said that they decided to change their religious tradition or denomination because of the negative teachings about or treatment of those within the LGBTQ community. A man in Florida apparently drove himself to jail and turned himself in to the authorities after allegedly murdering a newlywed couple outside of their home last weekend.The suspect‚ Sony Josaphat‚ 46‚ was soon arrested and charged after he turned himself in. He was charged with two counts of first-degree‚ premeditated murder with a firearm on Saturday‚ according to WOFL who obtained an affidavit from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office.Josaphat's daughter called the police last Saturday to apparently report that her father had shot two people. When the officers arrived on the scene‚ they discovered a man and woman who had been been shot multiple times on the sidewalk outside the couple's front door.The officers quickly asked those who were within the house to exit. Those within the house were interviewed shortly after the authorities arrived.
