VIDEO: Kerry Promises to Get Rid of Coal Faster. That’s Not Good.

It is no secret that the Biden administration wants to shut down coal plants — preferably by regulating them out of existence by 2035. So‚ when U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for Climate John Kerry announced at COP28 late last week that the U.S. government was committing itself to accelerating the process of replacing coal with wind and solar power‚ it wasn’t a surprise. COP28‚ which is located in Dubai this year‚ is one of the largest annual climate summits in the world. More than 84‚000 people registered to attend‚ including heads of state like U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak‚ industry leaders‚ diplomats‚ and journalists. It is the perfect place for countries to make empty promises to the global elites and announce well-timed climate alliances — like the U.S.’s decision to join the Power Past Coal Alliance‚ a group of almost 60 countries committed to speeding up the process of phasing out coal. (READ MORE: Al Gore for President) That also makes it the perfect place for Kerry to go on the warpath against coal. During a panel‚ the special envoy told his audience that “there shouldn’t be any more coal-fired power plants permitted anywhere in the world. That’s how you can do something for health. And the reality is that we’re not doing it.” The problem with phasing out coal as fast as possible is that it is an integrated part of the power system and a mainstay of poorer‚ rural communities across the United States. It currently supplies just under 20 percent of the U.S. power grid‚ according to data from the Department of Energy. More importantly‚ shuttering coal power plants will likely have a devastating impact on small communities that depend on them for their economy. Dumping the Term ‘Bidenomics’ Isn’t Enough for Joe

Dumping the Term ‘Bidenomics’ Isn’t Enough for Joe

The problem with Joe Biden’s economic message of “look how good things are” is twofold: First‚ for most people‚ inflation/high prices is the most important issue‚ and while the inflation rate is down‚ it’s still positive‚ meaning that all the massive price increases of the past remain in place and prices are still rising from there‚ just more slowly. People still see the prices of milk‚ of steak‚ of stuff at the hardware store‚ and they correctly blame it on Joe Biden. Second‚ to the extent that some economic indicators are good (and some surely are)‚ people correctly understand that it’s despite Biden‚ not because of him. (And that much of the recovery‚ such as in jobs‚ would have happened under any president as we emerged from COVID.) So every time Biden talks about Bidenomics (which was always a horrendous talking point)‚ all he’s really doing is reminding people how much they disapprove of him. Obviously‚ other Dems recognized this a while ago and abandoned the term. Biden himself has been slower to do so because he’s so utterly out of touch with “the people” and because his ego won’t let him believe that he’s not our savior. But even dropping that particular slogan won’t save him. I’m not a Trump guy‚ but it remains fascinating that a billionaire with a gold toilet and private jet has a better connection with “the working man” than “Scranton Joe” Biden does. Wanna know why? Because even though Trump started on third base with a huge inheritance from daddy‚ he actually did stuff‚ built stuff‚ met a payroll‚ and even finished a failed government project under time and under budget (the ice rink in New York City’s Central Park). Biden has been part of the federal government (with one short break during which he went from middle class to rich) since 1973‚ four years after he finished law school. (He actually started in politics two years before that.) He’s never done anything in the real world. Never created a job. Never met a payroll. Never built anything. Never learned how to build anything even if he wanted to. Never did anything other than be a leech on the ankle of the American taxpayer. And everybody knows it. Which is why dropping “Bidenomics” won’t save him.
