Rosie O’Donnell Confirms Her Expatriation To Ireland Has Hit A Snag: ‘Let’s Make A Real Plan’
One of the few celebrities who made good on a vow to flee the U.S. if President Donald Trump was re-elected last year was former talk show host Rosie O’Donnell.
The famously anti-Trump comedian announced last month that she had relocated to Ireland.
This week, however, she provided an update about the process that might put her future as an Irish citizen in jeopardy.
As Breitbart reported:
Rosie O’Donnell said she never thought President Donald Trump would win another election, and lamented over her Irish citizenship application having not yet been approved.
“I never thought he would win again,” O’Donnell told the New York Times of President Trump, adding that she told her therapist, “If he does [win], I’m going to move,” recalling that her therapist had replied, “Well, let’s make a real plan.”
Now, O’Donnell may feel herself losing to Trump in another roundabout way, as her Irish citizenship has not yet been officially approved, the comedian told the newspaper, adding that she was worried about admitting that to a reporter, fearing it could impact the process.
In March, O’Donnell revealed that she had fled the U.S. for Ireland in January, as Trump took office for his second term. Shortly after that, the president was seen in the Oval Office with Taoiseach of Ireland Micheál Martin, cracking jokes about his longtime rival.
After a reporter asked Martin “why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland,” President Trump laughed and asked the Irish political leader, “Did you know you have Rosie O’Donnell? Do you know who she is?”
The Trump-Martin Oval Office banter sparked significant social media discussion:
BREAKING: Reporter asks hilarious question to taoiseach of Ireland, Micheál Martin!
Question: “Ireland is known for very happy, fun-loving people. Why in the world would you let Rosie O’Donnell move to Ireland!?”

O’Donnell’s announcement has also been a common topic on X:

Rosie O’Donnell went on a late show in Ireland to prove what a bitter, deranged, shrew she is.
She’s also a complete hypocrite. She proudly says how she criticized President Trump while she was on The View.
But the fact she’s criticized back by him is “surreal.”

O’Donnell has elaborated on the toll she says Trump’s win took on her personally, as the Irish Star reported:
Rosie O’Donnell has admitted she was “drinking too much” during Donald Trump’s first term in the White House – and during his recent presidential campaign, she vowed she would leave the country if he was elected again.
The American talk show host revealed last month that she and her 12-year-old child Clay moved to Dublin, Ireland, to escape the Trump presidency. Since her grandparents were Irish, she is eligible to get citizenship, but said her application has yet to be approved.
The 63-year-old said she was “unbelievably heavy” and was exaggerating with alcohol but admitted “there were guardrails.” Rosie said she started making preparations in the final weeks of the 2024 campaign, saying, “I got my passport renewed, I got Clay’s passport renewed. My brother has his passport. All my cousins have their passports. But I was never a traveller.”
And here’s another highlight from her recent remarks:
