Koe Wetzel Releases Haunting New Single “Werewolf”
A song for spooky season… Koe’s way.
Koe Wetzel is not making fans wait long and is releasing new music at a rapid pace. And we are here for it. Koe Wetzel is keeping the hot streak going after the release of his last single, “Surrounded.” Coming off the heels of his commercially successful record 9 Lives, which scored Wetzel his first number one country radio hit, “High Road,” Wetzel kept the roll going with “Surrounded.” Since its release, fans have been in love with the gritty single, trying to move on from a former lover, but feeling surrounded by their memory.
Fans have been loving “Surrounded,” and it appears Wetzel is keeping that gritty, haunting feeling in whatever song he releases next. Recently, Wetzel teased the intro of a new song on his social media pages, and fans are foaming at the mouth for it to be released sooner rather than later.
In the visual preview of the tune, Wetzel is wading through water while duck hunting, as he walks by his decoys, when gunshots fire off in the distance before a heavy rock-and-roll drumbeat comes in.
Wetzel captioned the post:
“I don’t need a full moon…”

While fans were expecting to have to wait a few days or weeks for a single or project announcement, Wetzel threw them a curveball and didn’t even wait 24 hours before announcing the single. Twelve hours after posting the teaser, the East Texas rocker shared he’s dropping “Werewolf” TOMORROW.
“Save your silver bullets..
‘Werewolf’ – Midnight tomorrow.”

Today, October 24, fans were gifted with the tune, and Wetzel brought the heat on this new single. “Werewolf” has a slight spooky feel, which is very fitting for this time of year, and, like “Surrounded,” it has a double meaning.
Literally, “Werewolf” details the narrator changing into a vicious wild animal that runs rampant under a full moon. But if you read the lyrics a little more closely, they serve as a warning to the narrator’s lover. Wetzel is warming a woman who turns into a beast, giving her a chance to run. As Wetzel transforms into a “Werewolf,” he questions why he can’t clean up his act and why he always ends up acting out, causing destruction.
“Wondering why
I act the way I do
It happens all the time
I’d run if I was you
Cause I don’t need a full moon
To be howling like a damn fool
Tearing up everything I see
Baby that’s the werewolf in me
Aah ooh
Aah ooh”
The gritty melody of the tune perfectly matches the cautionary lyrics and leans heavily into the rock-and-roll-inspired sound we heard from Koe on 9 Lives.
This next chapter of Koe Wetzel’s sound is real, raw, and rocking. Fans buckle up because there is a lot more on the way.
Koe Wetzel Confirms He’s Recorded A Ton Of New Music
At the start of 2025, Koe Wetzel sat down with Katie Neal for a mini-episode of Katie & Company, disclosing that he had been in Nashville working on a new record. Neal asked Wetzel what the next chapter looks like. Koe noted that he’s going to build off the sound established on his last studio record, 9 Lives.
“Just kind of growing off of ‘9 Lives.’ You know, I think the music that I’ve made for so long has just kind of instilled into me and just kind of soldered into me, and with this new music out, with the new record, I just kind of wanted to get a little bit more of that rock ‘n’ roll side. Back to that Texas rock ‘n’ roll.
Working with Gabe Simon again, so it’s fun. You know, every time we go into the studio, it’s different. Every day is different. It’s just kind of go in there blind, having a little bit of an idea of what you’re going to write, but not having a whole outlook on it. And kind of stepping back after the day of work and go like, ‘Holy sh*t that’s, you know, that’s pretty cool actually.’
And that’s bringing a lot more joy back to songwriting and being in the studio because we’re going straight from writing to recording right then. I feel like that’s how it should be, and we are having a lot of fun with it. So… I don’t know, we’ll see how it all comes out.”
Flash forward to this fall, and Wetzel shared some more information about the new record in a brief interview with Road Dog Texas before his recent show at EECU Center in Stephenville, Texas.
According to Wetzel, he’s been busy in the studio lately and has recorded not one but TWO records over the past year. Though there’s no scheduled release date, he promised that new music is coming soon.
“We’ve got some new music coming. I don’t know exactly when the release date’s gonna be, but a lot of new music. I think we’re sitting on like two records now. We’re excited about all new music and finishing up the tour and hunting season.”
The Texas native would also note that the album(s) are still in the early stages without a working title. Additionally, he declined to comment about any potential collaborations on the album, saying he can’t release that much information.
Given it’s fall, we might not get a full LP until 2026, but based on this teaser, Wetzel hopefully has a single or two in store for us before the year ends.
