John Rich, Once Again, Calls Out Closet Conservatives In Country Music: “Garth Brooks Has Enough Conviction About Joe Biden”
John Rich taking the country music industry to task.
It's no secret where John Rich's political affiliations lie, but he's really only one of a few notable conservatives in the country music industry. Well, at least ones who talk about it...
Of course, open up any publication in the liberal media and you'll hear all about how racist and sexist the country music industry is. Throw in homophobic and xenophobic for good measure too. But aside from John Rich, who else in country music is an outspoken conservative? Where are all these alt-right, Trump worshipping, MAGA-loving Republicans that are infecting this toxic genre?
Jason Aldean, Travis Tritt, Aaron Lewis, Hank Williams Jr... while all legends of the music industry in their own right, Jason Aldean is really the only one who is consistently topping the charts and selling out big venues. Kid Rock is an outspoken voice, but his career obviously stretches beyond the walls of the country music industry.
The fact of the matter is that there really isn't a lot of prominent conservative voices in the country music industry at all. Meanwhile, notable liberal voices include Willie Nelson, Tim McGraw and Faith Hill, Garth Brooks, Jason Isbell, The Dixie Chicks, Tyler Hubbard, Brothers Osborne, Kacey Musgraves, Maren Morris (did she leave the "toxic" genre?), Tyler Childers, Sturgill Simpson, and plenty more outside the mainstream.
And John Rich is wondering why... especially given the fact that his conversations behind closed doors indicate quite the opposite.
Following the news that Carrie Underwood will perform "America The Beautiful" at Trump's inauguration, Rich took to to X to praise Underwood for not being afraid of standing up for what she believes in, while calling out “top tier artists” who support Trump but won’t admit it publicly:
“There are several top tier country artists who support Trump, and I wish they’d finally have the balls to come forward and be counted. Ain’t nothing outlaw about keeping your mouth shut to appease the record label. Carrie Underwood is making you look like a bunch of sissy boys.”

And he's 100% right in the fact that there is nothing "outlaw" about being quiet and not speaking your mind out of fear that you'll get canceled, or that your record label will be mad. It sounds like he had a few names in mind, but wasn't gonna go as far as to name them. But at the same time, I don't think everyone in country music necessarily has an obligation to hurl themselves into the political atmosphere if they don't want to. Some people just don't care...
Earlier today, it was also revealed that Parker McCollum will perform the inauguration, so props to him for being willing to stand on business.
However, John got to pondering this a little further, and seemed to put the bullseye on the back of A-listers who still refuse to stay quiet, despite being very vocal about their politics in their private conversations.
He praised Carrie Underwood for her willingness to perform, as well as her statement clarifying why she chose to do so, but then questioned once again why so many country music superstars sit on the sidelines. He even went as far as to praise Brad Paisley and Garth Brooks for at least having the guts to stand for something... albeit something he disagrees with.
He said:
"It got me thinking about country artists that I know for a fact are real conservatives and support Trump, that have yet to be heard from, and I started to compare that to some of the artists in country music who have supported the other side.
And I started to wonder, why is it that Garth Brooks has enough conviction about Joe Biden for instance, that he would sing at Joe Biden's inauguration, that he would give Hillary Clinton a big ol' bear hug, and stand up there and sing. Why is it that Brad Paisley will come to Nashville with Jill Biden and set up a Covid vaccine site and tell everyone to do their patriotic duty and show up and get your covid vaccine and I'll play you some music, and the first lady is here and come on down.
I don't agree with those guys but at least they had enough conviction to step forward and make those moves. Brad was all about the vaccines with Jill, Garth was all about Joe Biden and Hillary Clinton, so where are the big time A-listers who are conservative in country music, where are they?"
He went on to encourage artists to stand up and be vocal, noting that they won't be canceled anymore.
Now, Aldean, Kid Rock, Carrie Underwood is gonna participate, Aaron Lewis, there's artists that do show up, but there's some big names that I know of that have to step to the plate and I just don't understand it to be honest with you.
I mean Trump won the popular vote in a landslide victory, every swing state went to Trump, what are you guys afraid of? Your record label? You're too big to cancel. If anything your crowd is going to get bigger... ask Jason Aldean...
So anyways, I say congratulations to Brad Paisley, I say congratulations to Garth even though I disagree with them I do respect the fact they're willing to walk out with Joe Biden and Jill Biden and push vaccines and do all the things that they think are important, I just think the other side needs to be heard from as well...
It ain't outlaw to sit around and keep your mouth shut. You can't claim to love Johnny Cash and Kristofferson and Willie and Waylon and Tanya and Loretta and on and on, and say that you're following their footsteps when you keep your mouth shut. God bless you and God bless America, now grow a pair."
Of course, we all know were Willie falls on the spectrum, and Cash and Kristofferson were also pretty vocal about a number of social issues that might not fall in line with the views of John Rich. But to his point, these legends were not shy about speaking their minds... could maybe use a little more of that in country music... on either side of the aisle.

This Brad Paisley clip was shared in the comments, and man... I grew up loving Brad, bought myself a Telecaster because I wanted to play guitar like him, seen him in concert half a dozen times, but good Lord, if this isn't indicative of the absolute lies we were fed from Fauci, the CDC, and the mainstream media.
Armor, Brad? The vaccine was armor? Comical...
