Cody Johnson Confirms Luke Combs, Brothers Osborne, & Possibly More Will Be Featured On His Upcoming Album
Bringing out some heavy hitters. It’s been nothing short of a wild six months for Cody Johnson. If you recall, back in October, the Texas native suffered a huge blow when he blew out his eardrum. Just a month later, however, the “Dirt Cheap” singer would shock the country music world by taking home his first-ever CMA Male Vocalist of the Year award, snapping Chris Stapleton’s four-year winning streak.
Despite the huge night in Nashville during the CMAs, the burst eardrum didn’t come without its consequences. With the emergency surgery, multiple different shows were rescheduled, including stops in Pittsburgh, Birmingham and Las Vegas, as well as his scheduled performance at Boots in the Bayou in Gonzales, Louisiana and his highly-anticipated appearance at Hondo Rodeo in Phoenix, Arizona, in which he was scheduled to not only perform but compete at the show’s events.
Luckily for Johnson, his recovery process has been nothing short of a success, going as far as to say it’s the fastest his doctors have seen an eardrum heal, and he’s ready to get back out on the road throughout the year in 2026.
Along with the sprawling, 28-show tour, which recently added the likes of Kip Moore, Clint Black, Randy Houser, Jon Pardi, Carter Faith and more as openers, it looks like we’ll finally be receiving some new music from CoJo at some point in the year.
Keep in mind, even though he released the highly-anticipated cover of “Travelin’ Soldier” and hopped on some tracks with the likes of Brandon Lake, CeCe Winans and Michael Martin Murphey, the “Dirt Cheap” singer hasn’t dropped any truly original songs since the deluxe edition of Leather, which was released in November 2024.
During a recent conversation with Katie Neal on her podcast, Katie & Company, Johnson would confirm that new music will be coming soon. Even more excitingly, he finally confirmed that both Luke Combs and Brothers Osborne have OFFICIALLY cut their tracks together as well.
“Me and Luke Combs cut one together. We finally got that done… Brothers Osborne, that was kind of a last-minute deal. I heard the song, and I was like, ‘This sounds like John and TJ.’ They happened to be reaching out at the same time. [They were like], ‘Hey, when we do our next project, would you do this song with us?’ And I was like, ‘Yeah, absolutely. Would you do this with me on my project?’ So it was kind of a trade-off.”
The “Human” singer would also tease the fact that even more collaborations are set to appear on the album. With that being said, however, he wouldn’t name any names, noting he’s still in the process of getting some set up.
“There’s a couple of collabs that haven’t happened yet. It’s still just a lot of cellphone conversation… There’s gonna be some cool surprises on here.”
This comes just months after their conversation back in November when Johnson sort of downplayed the possibility of collaborating with Combs in particular, noting that they were going back-and-forth on a “certain song.”
“Maybe…maybe. I’m going into the studio this year to go record a new album. There’s a certain song that I’m pretty certain. We’re just, we’re kind of playing with it. We’re going back and forth with it, and it could be in the works. I can neither confirm nor deny.”
As we sit in February, it looks like they finally decided on the song. Though there’s no information surrounding the track itself, it’s safe to say that a Luke Combs-Cody Johnson collaboration has #1 hit written all over it. For now, however, we’ll just have to wait and see when they pull the trigger on a release date.
