FBI Identifies Man Caught On Camera Hurling Rocks At Feds During Anti-ICE Riot

The FBI has identified a man who threw rocks at federal officers during anti-ICE riots in Los Angeles County over the weekend, the Justice Department announced. U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli said Monday that 40-year-old Elpidio Reyna, a resident of Compton, California, was the man captured on video throwing rocks at law enforcement vehicles in Paramount, injuring one federal officer and damaging government vehicles. Reyna has not yet been arrested, and the FBI is offering $50,000 for information that leads to his capture.  “Elpidio Reyna can run, but he can’t hide. He threw rocks at federal officers leaving a command post in Paramount on Saturday, a brazen attack caught on film and that could have resulted in deaths. Reyna, 40, is charged with assault on a federal officer, and faces up to eight years in prison if convicted,” Essayli posted on X.  WANTED: Elpidio Reyna can run, but he can’t hide. Bondi added that he would be on the FBI’s Most Wanted list.  “He has been identified by the great police work by the FBI,” she said. “So, you can run, you can’t hide. We are coming after you federally. If you assault a police officer, if you rob a store, if you loot, if you spit on police officers, we’re coming after you.” Dozens of arrests have already been made throughout Los Angeles and San Francisco as rioters have been charged with vandalism, looting, and assaulting police officers. The unrest began after ICE started conducting operations in Los Angeles County on Friday, arresting sex offenders, gang members, and others who had been convicted on gun and drug charges. Trump authorized sending another 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles on Monday and deployed hundreds of Marines. He promised to throw the book at anyone who went after the troops.  “The Insurrectionists have a tendency to spit in the face of the National Guardsmen/women, and others,” he posted on Truth Social. “These Patriots are told to accept this, it’s just the way life runs. But not in the Trump Administration. IF THEY SPIT, WE WILL HIT, and I promise you they will be hit harder than they have ever been hit before. Such disrespect will not be tolerated!”

Trump Sends Another 2,000 National Guard Troops To L.A.

President Donald Trump mobilized an additional 2,000 National Guard troops to Los Angeles Monday night as the city cleans up the damage from a weekend of rioting and seeks to stave off more agitators. The new batch of National Guard troops will join 2,000 Guardsmen who were deployed by the Trump administration on Saturday, along with 700 Marines sent to L.A. on Monday, bringing the total number of mobilized military personnel in the city to at least 4,700, The Washington Post reported. Trump said on Tuesday morning that his decision to deploy troops to L.A. saved the city from “burning to the ground.” “If I didn’t ‘SEND IN THE TROOPS’ to Los Angeles the last three nights, that once beautiful and great City would be burning to the ground right now, much like 25,000 houses burned to the ground in L.A. do [sic] to an incompetent Governor and Mayor,” Trump wrote on Truth Social. California filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration on Monday over the National Guard deployment, arguing that the president infringed on Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom’s role without there being a clear threat of “invasion” or “rebellion.” Sending in the National Guard is a power typically exercised by governors but also granted to the president in certain circumstances. On Monday, Newsom sent 800 more state and local law enforcement officers to Los Angeles “to clean up President Trump’s mess.” Newsom and L.A. Democratic Mayor Karen Bass argue that the rioting in pockets of L.A. County was under control until Trump intervened to deploy the National Guard. “Chaos is exactly what Trump wanted, now we are sending in hundreds more law enforcement to pick up the pieces. State and local leaders stand together, coordinated and resolute to ensure the safety of the Los Angeles region,” Newsom said. Bass added, “While Washington choreographed these chaotic events, the LAPD and local law enforcement continue to effectively respond.” The protests-turned-riots in L.A. were sparked by federal immigration raids in the region last week, one of which arrested suspected illegal immigrants in a Home Depot parking lot. Some of those arrested in the raids included people convicted on gun and drug charges, Fox News’ Bill Melugin reported. The rioting picked up over the weekend as agitators attacked law enforcement officers by throwing rocks and cement and shooting fireworks at them. Rioters — some of whom waved Mexican flags — also set fire to multiple Waymo robotaxis in the street. A total of 42 agitators were arrested, and some of them face charges of assault on an officer and attempted murder, CBS News reported. The cleanup process has begun in a section of downtown L.A. after rioters destroyed planter boxes, pedestrian signs, and public benches and chairs. At least three businesses, a T-Mobile store and two athletic footwear stores, were ransacked by looters, and a Jordan Studio 23 and Adidas store suffered shattered glass in their front doors. What remained of five burned-out Waymo vehicles was also being cleaned up in the street. Waymo suspended service in downtown L.A. after the rioters targeted the robotaxis. While L.A. looks to clean up the damage, more anti-ICE rioting has hit San Francisco, where around 150 people were arrested Sunday night and at least two police officers were injured, ABC 7 reported.

278 Strangers Gather To Sing “Somebody That I Used To Know” In Breathtaking Performance

Have you ever wondered what it would feel like to sing in a choir full of hundreds of people? Although this may feel like an unrealistic goal, the Gaia Music Collective is determined to do something about that. Located in New York City, this creative community puts together some of the most unique events. Rather than inviting only the most talented singers, anyone who wants to participate can do so. With each event they hold, attendees sing their hearts out to various popular music. One of these events had 278 strangers singing “Somebody That I Used to Know” at Judson Memorial Church. The result was absolutely breathtaking! Experience their performance for yourself in the video below! @gaiamusiccollective this space has such an epic history. it has murals of iconic activists & artists instead of saints, provided medical resources for folks during the AIDS crisis, and has been a hub of arts & culture in NYC for decades. we're so lucky to get to make music in these historied halls! "Anxiety x Somebody That I Used to Know" One-Day Choir opb. @Doechii & Gotye led by @Matt Goldstein at Judson Memorial Church #singing #harmony #choir #vocals #acapella #doechii #gotye #anxiety #somebodythatiusedtoknow #nyc ♬ original sound – Gaia Music Collective “This space has such an epic history,” Gaia Music Collective writes in the caption of their post. “It has murals of iconic activists & artists instead of saints, provided medical resources for folks during the AIDS crisis, and has been a hub of arts & culture in NYC for decades. We’re so lucky to get to make music in these historied halls!” Strangers Gather in an NYC Church to Sing Somebody That I Used to Know As many others have pointed out, part of the beauty in a one-day choir is that the goal isn’t to be perfect. Not only is perfection never truly attainable, but it’s certainly not possible within a few hours. And that’s around how long these 278 people had to learn how to sing this song together. Despite their limited time, and the fact that few, if any, are professionals, they did a stellar job. At the end of the day, what matters most is the beauty found in these total strangers bonding over music. Besides, they actually do sound amazing together! Hero Crane Driver Who Rescued Man from Burning Building Granted Humble Bucket List Wish

In late 2023, GNN reported that a construction worker had been rescued from the side of a burning high-rise building thanks to a heroic crane operator. A basket was suspended on the end of Glen Edwards’ crane meant for holding people while they work along the facades of buildings, and despite terrible visibility from the […] The post Hero Crane Driver Who Rescued Man from Burning Building Granted Humble Bucket List Wish appeared first on Good News Network.

Five Stories About Being Stranded on an Alien Planet

Books Science Fiction Five Stories About Being Stranded on an Alien Planet Tales of fighting for survival in a strange new world. By Lorna Wallace | Published on June 10, 2025 Comment 0 Share New Share The universe is a pretty big place—in fact, as far as scientists can tell, it seems to be endless—which means that there are countless possibilities for what distant planets in far-flung galaxies might be like. Plenty of sci-fi writers have turned their minds to crafting creative and unusual environments on alien planets. But I particularly love it when a small group of humans are stranded on one of those planets and are actively struggling to survive in a strange, new (to them, at least!) landscape. Here are five such examples. “The Long Rain” by Ray Bradbury (1950) “The Long Rain” opens with four military men having just crash-landed on a version of Venus where it’s constantly raining. The heavy precipitation has led to the entire planet being covered in a lush jungle, and humanity’s only respite are purpose-built Sun Domes—buildings that not only provide shelter from the rain, but that are lit by a small artificial sun and which are filled with supplies. The four men are miserably trekking through the rainforest in search of a Sun Dome; despite efforts to keep their spirits up, each of them is slowly but surely losing their minds due to the never-ending rain. Although not as bizarre as some of the other environments on this list, Bradbury’s prose turns the relentless downpour into something truly terrifying. Sentenced to Prism by Alan Dean Foster (1985) Evan Orgell lives on a planet where everyone wears what are essentially spacesuits (but way more customizable and fashionable) to protect themselves from the elements. He works for a company called the Aurora Group, who have discovered a planet where life is mostly silicon-based, rather than carbon-based. As a result, the planet, which is named Prism, is covered in life that is formed of crystal, jewels, and glass. And of course, the Aurora Group want to exploit Prism’s rich resources. The only snag in the plan is that they’ve lost contact with the survey team. With no idea of what’s gone wrong, they send Evan—an arrogant, but admittedly result-producing, generalist—to investigate, wearing a highly specialized state-of-the-art survival suit.Sentenced to Prism is pure adventurous fun—for the reader, not so much for Evan. The worldbuilding of Prism takes center stage and the story that is woven through this weird world is tense, propulsive, and even rather poignant at times. “Evolution” by Paul Crenshaw (2021) The crew aboard the spaceship Beagle—named after Charles Darwin’s research vessel—have one mission: to explore the universe and catalogue the life forms they find. After following the faint signal of another spaceship, the Albatross, they wind up on the most Earth-like planet yet, but, just like the previous ship, they end up crash-landing. While the mechanics set about trying to fix the ship, the scientists venture out to explore the new planet. It isn’t long before they find some of the bodies of the Albatross’ crew in a ravaged state. They find a similarly ominous situation within the Albatross itself—the doors were barricaded and spent ammo litters the floor. The Beagle’s crew get a little insight into what must have happened when night falls and a nocturnal creature—which at first doesn’t seem to be that threatening—makes an appearance. “Evolution” is pretty bleak, but it’s also a fascinating take on an alien life form. Shroud by Adrian Tchaikovsky (2025) The surface of Shroud—which is a moon, rather than a planet—is an environment that inspires fear as well as wonder. Intense radio activity is being generated by whatever calls Shroud home, but the celestial body also has an atmosphere so thick that no light reaches the surface. An interstellar research team is currently studying the moon from orbit, tasked with figuring out how to exploit Shroud’s resources. But then a catastrophic event aboard the spaceship sends Juna Ceelander and Mai Ste Etienne down to the dark and mysterious surface in a barely-ready exploratory pod. From there, tension rules the story. The pair do their best to not only survive the inhospitable environment (and hopefully find an escape from it!), but also to understand the strange creatures that thrive in the dense atmosphere. If you like your aliens to feel truly alien—rather than a twist on life forms from Earth—and stories that explore all of the problems that arise from that, then Shroud is the book for you. Scavengers Reign created by Joseph Bennett and Charles Huettner (2023) Moving away from the written word, Scavengers Reign is an animated TV show aimed at an adult audience. The story starts with a handful of survivors being scattered across Vesta—a planet rich with life—after using emergency pods to escape their damaged spaceship, the Demeter 227. There are three storylines to follow, as the survivors are separated into two pairs and one lonely man on his own. All of the characters have different experiences of this planet’s complex ecosystem, partly because of the way their own personalities and reactions color their encounters with the native flora and fauna. Vesta’s design is breathtakingly creative, with the many life forms being by turns awe-inspiring and terrifying (and sometimes both!).  Sadly, Scavengers Reign was bafflingly cancelled after just one season, but although the story is unfinished, the 12 episodes that did make it to air are still absolutely worth the watch. There are, of course, countless more tales of survival on an alien planet out there. Feel free to share your favorites in the comments below—books, movies, TV shows, games, and comics are all welcome![end-mark] The post Five Stories About Being Stranded on an Alien Planet appeared first on Reactor.
