Flamingo Takes Full Advantage Of Beach Amenities On A Hot Day
Almost everyone knows what a flamingo looks like. The large, pink birds are a favorite yard ornament across the United States. During a recent trip to the beach on Renaissance Island in Aruba, Carly Juarascio got to witness Flamingos participating in a very human behavior.

On a hot day, the flamingos decided that a cool shower would feel great. While one bird stands beneath the water flow, another waits patiently in line for its turn.
The American flamingo is one of the largest species of flamingo. They are social animals and live in large flocks. The birds are born white, and a pigment in their favorite food that gives them the pink coloration.

The birds have a slender body, with a tiny head perched on a long neck. They have long legs and will frequently stand on one leg while resting. Their pink wings have black flight feathers along the wing edges. Adults stand around five feet tall, but they only weigh four to eight pounds.
They live in shallow wetland areas and prefer brackish or salt water. Although they mate for life, their mating ritual involves the entire flock. With everyone in the mood, mating and egg-laying progress rapidly.
The downward curve of their beak helps them as they poke along the water’s edge searching for bugs and small fish. Their primary diet consists of seeds, brine, fly larvae, small mollusks, and shrimp. They normally wade through the shallows, stirring up the bottom with their feet.
