On October 7, 2023, Hamas was parading in the streets. The terrorist group in the Gaza Strip had perpetrated one of the most shocking atrocities in history, delivering what it believed would be a lasting body blow to Israel. It was so proud of the spectacle that it put its rape and torture of Israeli civilians live on camera for the world to see. If you listen to speeches at the United Nations or read mainstream media headlines two years on, you’d think Israel is on the brink of collapse — trapped in an unprecedented crisis that began with the Hamas terrorist attack. Hamas is celebrating today’s anniversary, with leadership telling CNN that the attack created a “golden moment for the world to change the history.” But here in the real world, things haven’t turned out quite like the terrorists had hoped. Gaza, which Israel mistakenly ceded to the Palestinians two decades ago, is now a parking lot. Nearly every prominent Hamas leader is dead. The terror groups’ Arab allies, including the Qataris who once bankrolled them, are now engaging with the United States and Israel on a negotiated surrender.  And on top of all that: Israel has never been more secure.  With a strengthened resolve, justified desire for retribution, and a pledge to its people that it would never let an attack like October 7 happen again, the Jewish state has managed to wipe out more than just Hamas. Two years ago, Israel was encircled by some of the most dangerous and ruthless enemies in the region. A lot has changed since then. Hezbollah had over 100,000 rockets trained at Israel’s northern border two years ago. Israel has since decimated its leadership and ranks with exploding beepers. Former Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad is hiding out in Russia, and the new regime in Damascus has signaled a willingness to open relations with Israel. And most importantly, Israel, with the help of President Donald Trump and a fleet of B-2 bombers, carried out attack plans years in the making to decimate Iran’s leadership and nuclear capabilities.  Even the economic boycotts so popular among American leftists have been parried, with Israel’s economy soaring. Only one threat remains: the group that lit the match two years ago. Hamas’ infrastructure is crumbling, its leadership is hiding or being hunted down, and its grip on Gaza is weakening by the day. Its demise appears to be a question of when, not if. And that “when” feels fast approaching. If Hamas doesn’t agree to Trump’s peace terms, the president has promised “complete obliteration” of the terrorist group. We suggest calling the Ayatollah and asking how calling Trump’s bluff worked out for Iran. There are certainly criticisms of how Israel accomplished this. Some say Israel took too long to exact revenge for the atrocities of October 7, arguing that anti-Israel sentiment grew as the world saw Israel carry out its devastating response. Some say Israel went too far, creating a public relations crisis with footage of the aftermath of its offensive. But Israel’s critics, like Greta Thunberg, were less moved when they were shown footage of what Hamas did on October 7. Almost as if Israel’s haters need no reason to hate the Jewish State other than the fact that it’s a Jewish state? As leftists chirp and spread lies, Israel is winning, decisively putting an end to those who seek its destruction. And that’s the toughest pill for Israel’s haters to swallow.

September was not a good month for the advocates of government schools—across the nation and here in Virginia. In Des Moines, Iowa, the city’s school superintendent was the subject of a high-speed car chase followed by a K-9 manhunt leading to his capture. Why? He’s been in the country illegally since 2000 and has been the subject of a deportation order since the spring of 2024. That’s right, even the Biden administration was trying to deport him. Not only had Ian Roberts not been a citizen, but he had also lied about his post-graduate degree from Morgan State University. Here in Virginia, we don’t have nearly that kind of excitement. Instead, we have to settle for school board members comparing conservatives to Nazis and the Ku Klux Klan on social media. In Chesterfield County, one representative on the school board, Dorothy “Dot” Heffron resigned after the community learned that she posted, “Call me old fashioned, but I remember when we used to be okay shooting Nazis,” right after the murder of young conservative leader Charlie Kirk in September. As The Daily Signal reported here, she is planning to hang around and keep voting on things until the end of December. There is currently a petition drive being led by the group Rally Virginia and supported by Gov. Glenn Youngkin and other GOP officials to have her removed immediately. We have invited representatives of Rally Virginia to visit us in an upcoming podcast, so stay tuned. Also in September, the Turning Point USA chapter of Western Albemarle High School near Charlottesville decided to host Virginia Family Foundation President Victoria Cobb as a guest speaker to give a presentation titled “Two Genders, One Truth” (listen to my podcast interview with Cobb here). School board member Allison Spillman took to social media and wrote in response, “As a school board member and proud parent of a trans[gender] student, I am beyond livid. In my opinion, this is not a matter of free speech, it’s hate speech and has no place in our schools. If the KKK wanted a speaker during lunch, would we allow that as well?” The school canceled the talk, but after lawyers got involved, it reversed its decision and allowed the event to go on. For her part, Spillman made her post private once it began to get public backlash, so we included the screen capture below. It was only a few years ago that an actual Klan chapter held a rally in nearby Charlottesville, so one would hope that she would be able to tell the difference between the Klan and a group of conservative Christian high school students. Many of the Left who post things like this claim they were misunderstood or are being mischaracterized or spoke “inartfully” when caught and facing backlash. In month’s past, we have told you of the growing “microschools” movement and the growing enthusiasm for more school choice in Virginia. Considering that these school board members are the people who make the decisions on curriculum and behavioral policy, and that test scores, though climbing back up a little in Virginia, are abysmal compared to the rest of the industrialized world, can this outcome be any surprise at all? Sixty-one counties in Virginia have at least one school board seat up for election right now. While the attention is being paid to the governor’s race, look at the people who are running for these seats and ask yourself if you are sure of what they are saying when no one’s looking. The hypocritical sexism of the Left knows no bounds, including in our beautiful Commonwealth of Virginia. America’s modern Left claims to hold a monopoly on caring for women, but Virginia Democrats have abandoned us, proving they are incapable of protecting women’s safety and governing in a bipartisan, reasonable manner.  The official Democrat Party nominee for Virginia attorney general is a man, Jay Jones, who called for the murder of the children of a political rival and their father. Jones also said he wanted the children to die in the arms of their mother.  It’s a low bar: Virginia’s women deserve public servants who do not fantasize about violently traumatizing them and their families. Yet none of Jones’ fellow Democratic ticket members are calling for Jones to step aside. Jones just admitted that in August 2022, he sent a barrage of graphic, lewd text messages to Republican House Del. Carrie Coyner. “Three people, two bullets,” Jones, a former state representative, wrote about former Virginia State House Speaker Todd Gilbert in a string of text messages to Coyner. “Gilbert, hitler, and pol pot … Gilbert gets two bullets to the head.”  Jones also told Coyner regarding his Republican colleagues that if they died before him, “I will go to their funerals to piss on their graves.” Jones later called Coyner to follow up and continued harassing his female Republican colleague.  By bullying his female colleague, Jones also likely wanted to silence Coyner through intimidation. What kind of a man who claims to respect women would behave this way? Jones is clearly unqualified to serve as an unbiased arbiter of justice in Virginia. In his social media bios, Jones says he fights to keep “all families safe and free.” But Jones only means ones from his Leftist political tribe.  Jones is incapable of defending women. For conservative Virginians, he said he’d like to murder our leaders, to see our children dead, and to piss on our graves. It’s time for Jones to drop out.  With rising rhetoric and increasing acts of political violence by the political Left, this type of language has no place in our civic discourse. But Jones is far from alone: An eye-popping 25% of self-identified “very liberal” respondents now openly support violence to achieve political goals, according to polling last  month from YouGov.  That figure is more than eight times the 3% of self-identified “very conservative” Americans who claimed it is “ever justified for citizens to resort to violence in order to achieve political goals.”  Both conservative Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears agree that Jones should drop out.  Yet, sadly, we also see female Leftist candidates, including Democrat gubernatorial nominee Abigail Spanberger and State Senator Ghazala Hashmi, the Democrat lieutenant governor nominee, both refusing to call for Jones to step down.  Spanberger’s failure to hold Jones accountable is an indication of her failed leadership. It’s no wonder that when she was in Congress, Spanberger voted against keeping men out of women’s sports and co-sponsored the so-called Equality Act that would practically redefine women out of existence. Spanberger also voted against the Laken Riley Act, which enabled the Trump administration to take an MS-13 gang leader, who brutally killed an innocent young woman, off the streets of Virginia.  Spanberger is a coward, refusing to stand against men who want to invade female-only spaces—including a convicted male sex offender who reportedly exposed himself repeatedly to little girls in a girls’ high school locker room in my hometown of Arlington, Virginia. The Left often harps on “toxic masculinity,” yet when one of their own provides a textbook example of it, they crumple in silence. Women were pivotal in 2021 in Virginia’s victory for conservative leadership. They stood up against the tyranny of Big Government intruding in our lives.
