Common sense or censorship? These 10 baby names have been banned in the United States.

Common sense or censorship? These 10 baby names have been banned in the United States.

Naming a baby is a difficult decision, and it doesn't get any easier when the names you might like are "off limits" for any number of reasons. The names we give to our children can be very personal. They can reflect religious beliefs, family heritage, or have a special meaning attached to them, as in Grace, which means "divine favor," or Eli, which means "ascended." In the United States, people are protected by the Constitution's First Amendment, freedom of speech, which allows us to name our babies whatever we like. However, there have been some cases where the courts decided that a particular name is illegal, and, although it is infrequent, it has happened at least 10 times in the country's history. The most notable banned names are Misteri N-Word, King, Queen, Jesus Christ, III, Santa Claus, Majesty, Adolf Hitler, @, and 1069. A court reporter taking notes. via Canva/Photos Why are these 10 names banned in the United States?III (Roman numerals pronounced “three”)Thomas Boyd Ritchie III was known by many of his friends simply as III. So, he petitioned the court to have his name changed to Roman numerals in 1984. Sadly, a California court rejected the name change because it was a symbol and a number. It’s illegal for people to have numbers in their names because they can’t be entered into state name databases.Misteri (N-word)In the California Superior Court case Lee v. Superior Court (1992), Russell Lawrence Lee wanted to change his name to Misteri (N-word). Lee believed that the name could be used to conquer racial hatred. Unfortunately for Lee, the court denied his request, saying the name constituted “fighting words.”@ (pronounced “at”)The address symbol, or @, has been banned in multiple jurisdictions because, like a numeral, it cannot be input into state database records. The "@" symbol.via Canva/PhotosJesus ChristThe name of the Christian lord and savior has been banned in several U.S. states based on claims of blasphemy and the possibility of confusion.1069In 1976, the North Dakota Supreme Court told high school teacher Michael Herbert Dengler that he could not change his name to “1069.” “The only way [my] identity can be expressed is 1069. The first character, 1, stands for my concept of nature which manifests itself as one individual among the various forms of life,” he noted. “I stand as a single entity amongst millions of other entities, animate and inanimate. But yet even though I am an entity unto myself, I am part of the whole of life which is one. I am one; life is one; and together we are one.”He later moved to Minnesota and tried to change his name, but he was rejected again. Neither state allowed people to have numbers as their names.Santa ClausIn December 1999, Robert William Handley of Ohio filed a petition to change his name to Santa Rob Claus, because he had played the Christmas character for the past 40 years, and was known as “Santa Rob” year-round. The court rejected his petition, saying it was “misleading to the children of the community.” Two years later, the Supreme Court of Utah allowed the name change. Santa Claus Christmas GIF by benniesolo Giphy Majesty, King, QueenIn several states, naming your child after a royal title is illegal to avoid confusion with actual royalty. Does Queen Latifah know this?Adolf HitlerIf you want to name your child Adolf Hitler, you can’t do it in Texas. After the atrocities he committed in the 1930s and ‘40s, his name has no place in the Lone Star State. However, you can be named Adolf Hitler in New Jersey. Back in 2009, there was a big hubbub when the father of Adolf Hitler Campbell wanted his child’s name written on a birthday cake, and the proprietor of the business refused. This article originally appeared in May. 6th-grade teacher quits rather than remove harmless sign from her classroom

Alright, that's it. We've finally had enough in this country. In a move that's long overdue, we're finally cracking down on... *checks notes*...basic human kindness? The orders have come straight from the top. Being nice to people who are different than you is now bad. Creating environments that are welcoming and inclusive of everyone? Also bad. What's most disturbing is just how far these mandates are trickling down—all the way into our schools.A 6th grade teacher in Idaho was recently told by school administrators to remove a controversial sign from her classroom. She refused. An angry elementary school teacher sits in classCanvaEarlier this spring, world civilization teacher Sarah Inama at Lewis and Clark Middle School was told that one of the posters in her class was inappropriate. The school asked her to remove it.Initially, she complied, but upon reflection and discussion with her husband, decided that it didn't feel right. She needed to take a stand. So Inama put the poster back up and left it visible for all to see, even after administrators warned her she could lose her job over the noncompliance. Finally, among growing outcry and threats of termination, Inama decided to resign rather than remove the poster. She bravely decided to stick up for her controversial beliefs, even though she knew her personal opinion may not be popular.Just wait until you see the outrageous sign. Here it is: Seriously, that's it. The sign reads "Everyone Is Welcome Here" and shows hands of different colors. This is the poster that was deemed not appropriate for the public school environment. The district’s chief academic officer Marcus Myers clarified that, "The political environment ebbs and flows, and what might be controversial now might not have been controversial three, six, nine months ago."Inama's sign was said to have violated the school's "content neutral" policy, which prohibits any speech or messaging that might reflect personal opinions, religious beliefs, or political ideologies. What's hard to believe is that a sign meant to show kids that they are welcome in Inama's classroom somehow reflects a "personal belief" that the school won't tolerate. The sign made no mention of religion or LGBTQ+ identities or political ideologies; and it was still deemed too woke. That's extremely frightening.Inama received an outpouring of support from the community, but it wasn't enough to change the district's mind. After her resignation, she didn't hold back, sharing her resignation letter with local news. See on Instagram “This will be my last year teaching in the West Ada School District, and it saddens me to leave under these circumstances,” Inama's letter begins.“I cannot align myself nor be complicit with the exclusionary views and decisions of the administration. It is deeply troubling that the people running this district and school have allowed a welcoming and inclusive message for my students to be considered controversial, political, and, worst of all, an opinion.”"I hope for the sake of the students in your district that you can remember the core values of public education," she concludes. "To serve all citizens, foster an inclusive and safe learning environment, and protect your staff and students from discriminatory behavior."The war on "DEI" (Diversity Equity and Inclusion) has gone way too far when it's not OK to tell kids of different skin colors that they are welcome and safe in a classroom. And now, the education system has lost a talented and passionate teacher because of it. But at least Inama hasn't gone quietly, and with millions of outraged supporters all over the country and now world, we probably haven't heard the last of this case. This article originally appeared earlier this year. Harry Styles' shocking marathon time left fans speechless—then he beat it 6 months later

Harry Styles has impressed us yet again—but this time, it wasn't with an acoustic cover of "Ultralight Beam" or on the red carpet with his audacious fashion choices. The three-time Grammy winner proved that when it comes to athletic achievement, he's not another celebrity dabbling in fitness for Instagram likes. He's the real deal. His marathon-running prowess is nothing short of phenomenal. In early 2025, fans and athletes were stunned by Styles' performance at the Tokyo marathon, where he finished with a time of 3 hours and 24 minutes. Even more impressive, he demonstrated impeccable even split-timing: one of the most coveted and analyzed aspects of distance running, in which the runner maintains consistent pacing throughout the entire race. Now, six months later, Styles has beaten his own marathon time by nearly 25 minutes.Harry crossing the finish line at the Berlin Marathon - September 21 (via rtenews) pic.twitter.com/LsE3Aulvs2— HSD (@hsdaily) September 23, 2025 In September 2025, the "Watermelon Sugar" singer ran in the Berlin Marathon and clocked an absolutely mind-blowing time of 2 hours, 59 minutes, and 13 seconds. And it's not just his millions of fans who are impressed: athletes and seasoned marathon runners are also quick to praise Styles' expertise."Running a marathon in under three hours is considered an incredible accomplishment in the running community. Statistically, fewer than 5% of all finishers worldwide can run [sub-three-hour] marathons," explains Dr. Joey Masri, in an exclusive interview with Upworthy.Dr. Masri earned his Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine in 2016 and holds Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist credentials (CSCS). He's also the owner of Vice City Sports Medicine in Miami, Florida, where he develops personalized treatment plans that help patients achieve performance goals. Harry Styles achieved his historic run time through hard work and intentional training.Photo credit: Canva"It may seem that Harry Styles just ran faster, and while that's true, the reality is more complex," he adds. "To reduce run time dramatically in such a relatively short period, careful planning and intentional training are required."The numbers don't lie: This is elite-level performanceLet's put Harry's achievement into perspective. Sub-three-hour marathons are the holy grail for recreational runners, a benchmark that separates serious athletes from the pack.To achieve this, Dr. Masri says that Styles would have had to maintain a pace of six minutes and 50 seconds per mile for the entire marathon, which is "incredibly fast" for many recreational runners."This feat requires strong mental discipline, cardiovascular endurance, and running economy. The slightest form of inefficiency can cost precious minutes and compound over the course of a 26.2-mile run," Dr. Masri reveals. "Additionally, pacing can matter a great deal, as starting out too fast means burning out sooner, while starting too slow unnecessarily wastes time." View this post on Instagram A post shared by That’s my Berlin! (@thatsmyberlin)Valuable stats to know:Styles finished in 2,245th place out of more than 48,000 participants at the Berlin Marathon, placing him in the top 5% of finishers. On average, marathoners cross the finish line in 4 hours and 34 minutes, which translates to an average of 10 minutes per mile. The average male marathon runner finishes in 4 hours and 51 minutes.Styles finished the Berlin Marathon with an average pace of 6 minutes and 50 seconds per mile, and 8.77 miles per hour. This was a vast improvement from his previous finish at the Tokyo Marathon, where he ran 57 seconds slower per mile. However, what makes his performance even more remarkable is the consistency. During his Tokyo Marathon debut, Styles ran the first half in 1 hour 42 minutes and 3 seconds, then completed the second half in 1 hour 42 minutes and 4 seconds—achieving nearly perfect even splits. This level of pacing precision is something that takes even experienced marathoners years to master. In Berlin, he maintained this incredible consistency, running the first half in 1:29:08 and the second half in 1:30:06.For running coach and personal trainer Amanda Grimm (who is a part of the WeRun Network, an online portal that connects runners in the U.K. with running coaching), the conditions Harry ran in also add to his remarkable success.Harry Styles completed the Berlin marathon in under 3 hours. The fastest time was 2 hours and 2 mins. pic.twitter.com/PJrxsAylh0— Buzzing Pop (@BuzzingPop) September 21, 2025 "It's worth noting that the Styles' sub-3 marathon was achieved in quite tough conditions," she tells Upworthy. "It was a warm and humid day in Berlin, making his achievement all the more impressive… [and] Harry ran with remarkably even splits, demonstrating a discipline and maturity as a runner that has served him well."The training regimen that built a marathon machineSo, how does a global superstar find time to train for marathon excellence while maintaining a full-fledged career that spans music, film, and sold-out worldwide tours? By training with the right people and approaching workouts with the same dogged intensity he brings to his art.Styles trained under the guidance of Thibo David, a former British special forces member and professional fighter who specializes in peak performance training. David, who worked with Styles from 2018 to 2021, preparing him for his Love On Tour shows, designed a comprehensive program that would make even elite athletes sweat. Harry's strength training included kettlebells.Photo credit: Canva"When I first started training Harry, I wasn't thinking 'marathon finisher,' but peak performance was always the goal,' David told Running Magazine. "Whether training for a world tour, a film role, or a marathon, the same principles apply: structure, smart recovery, and long-term resilience."The training wasn't solely focused on logging miles. David incorporated boxing-inspired workouts, kettlebell swings, jumping lunges, and sprint intervals—all designed to build the kind of power and endurance needed for marathon success. One marathon-specific workout included a 10- to 20-minute warm-up jog, followed by a fast one-mile run (Harry's personal best: 5 minutes and 13 seconds). This was followed by an eight-minute challenge consisting of 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, and 100 air squats, completed with hill sprints and a cool-down.Phew. Aren't you tired just reading that? The science behind such dramatic improvementTrainers and exercise physiologists are captivated by Styles' 25-minute improvement in such a short timeframe."Harry Styles' jump from three hours and 24 minutes to under three hours is remarkable because that kind of improvement gets harder the faster you are," says Dr. Masri. "Once you're in the mid-3s, every extra minute shaved off takes real discipline, smart training, and resilience. This feat simply does not happen by accident or luck." - YouTube www.youtube.com He believes that, to achieve such a dramatic improvement in less than half a year, Styles' training schedule would have likely included:Progressively building up his weekly mileageStrategically implementing speed work to get comfortable at faster pacesNot skipping longer runs to build physical stamina and mental fortitudeStrength trainingMobility workProper recovery (via nutrition and sleep)Dr. Masri adds, "expert coaching likely played a role as well, as marathon training is complex and requires a series of building, peaking, and tapering phases, which need to be meticulously planned to prevent overtraining and ensure the best possible position to succeed come race day."What this means for aspiring runnersStyles' journey offers practical inspiration for anyone with marathon dreams. His success stemmed from innovative training, consistency, and a supportive environment. - YouTube www.youtube.com Key takeaways for marathon runners:Build your aerobic base first. A large portion of Styles' training was at a comfortable, conversational pace.Consistency beats intensity. Regular training trumps occasional heroic efforts.Get professional guidance. Working with an experienced coach accelerated his process.Invest in proper gear. Quality running shoes can enhance efficiency and reduce the risk of injury.Make it enjoyable. Finding ways to make training enjoyable improves long-term adherence.Hats off to HarryStyles' marathon success is validation that with the right approach, dedication, and support, dramatic athletic improvements are possible for nearly everyone. And his journey from pop stardom to sub-three-hour marathoner proves that excellence in one field can translate to greatness in another when approached with the same tenacity and level of commitment.Harry running the Berlin Marathon - September 21 ?: olsvisuals pic.twitter.com/JDaxLnNPDu— HSD (@hsdaily) September 21, 2025 The timing couldn't be better, too. Marathon participation has been growing steadily, and having a beloved global icon like Harry Styles could spark an even further interest in the sport among millions of young people who never considered distance running.Achieving a sub-three-hour marathon finishing time doesn't happen just by luck. "Doing it in just six months, while juggling the demands of touring and public life, makes it even more impressive. It shows he wasn't just dabbling in running; he committed fully and embraced it," shares Dr. Masri. "As a strength coach, this result shows me that he brings real intention, genuine commitment, and a strong work ethic, and his results speak for themselves."So, whether it's running your first marathon, learning a new skill, or making a significant life change, the next time you're wondering if you have what it takes to chase a seemingly far-off goal, remember Harry Styles lacing up those shoes and putting in the miles. One step at a time, again and again, until he crossed the Berlin Marathon finish line in under three hours.

A simple word choice can be the difference between people accepting or rejecting your apology

You messed up, and now it’s time to fess up and apologize. Apologies can be tough because you want to appear genuine so that you can start healing the relationship. Depending on the mistake, a simple sorry just won’t do. So, how do you craft your apology so it has the greatest chance of being accepted? The key is to be incredibly intentional with your word choice.A recent study published in the British Journal of Psychology found that people sound the most sincere when apologizing if they use longer words than they usually would. “This paper shows that individuals produce longer words in their apologies than in their non-apologetic communication, presumably to express the effort they are willing to exert to express their remorse and/or correct the situation,” the researchers wrote. “Correspondingly, individuals interpret apologies with longer words as more apologetic.”How to apologize and have it acceptedIn plain English, the researchers found that using longer words in your apology than you would typically use makes the person you are apologizing to believe that you are truly sorry. The key here is for you to consider how you present yourself as a speaker. If you don’t usually use big words, you won’t have to stretch your vocabulary too far. However, suppose you typically speak as if you have a doctorate in English literature with a minor in linguistics. In that case, it's going to be a bit harder to find the perfect verbiage for your apology. A woman rejecting a man's apology.via Canva/PhotosIf you usually would have said, “I'm really sorry,” you'd do better by saying, “I'm genuinely sorry.”If you usually say, “I am incredibly sorry,” you’d have a better chance of it being accepted if you said, “I am tremendously sorry.”Let’s take things up a level so you can be a master at apologizing. To be even more convincing, use words that are longer and aren’t used as frequently in regular day-to-day conversation. If you were apologizing for being a bit snappy with someone and would usually apologize with, “I did not mean to be so hostile,” instead, try, “I did not mean to respond in a confrontational manner.” A man and woman hugging.via Canva/PhotosWhy do longer words seem more genuine? Why does using longer words that are less common in everyday conversation make you more convincing when apologizing? Linguists believe that most people try to minimize the effort they put into choosing the words they use, just as they don’t put a lot of thought into interpreting what they hear. Therefore, when you appear to put a lot of thought into your word choice while also putting yourself through the strain of pronouncing extra syllables, you always seem to be more thoughtful and genuine. The person you’re apologizing to is saying to themselves, “They’re using big words that I don’t hear very often; they must have put a lot of thought into what they are saying. They must really be genuine.”Ultimately, the researchers discovered that, like many aspects of life, effort is crucial. When people see that you’ve invested a lot in your apology, they take notice and just may give you the benefit of the doubt. Unless, of course, if this is the tenth time you’re apologizing for the same thing, then there is no word long enough to seem genuine.

12 photos of women before and after an orgasm shines a new light on women's sexual wellness

You might recall Marcos Alberti's mega-viral "3 Glasses" project from 2016, in which he photographed people after they had consumed one, two, and then three glasses of wine. The series was impactful in part because it showed the physical transformation that comes from being relaxed after some wine. That, and it touched on a common curiosity. Haven’t we all wondered if we look as different as we feel after getting a little tipsy? (Spoiler alert: the answer is yes.)Using a very similar format to “3 Glasses,” as well as the elements of lightheartedness, novelty, and rawness that made it so special, Alberti utilizes his photography to delve into a topic much less discussed: women’s sexual wellness. The concept is simple: photograph women before, during, and after an orgasm. You can see why he calls this the “O” project.Despite the subject matter, Alberti assures viewers that the intention wasn’t to be explicit, or even erotic, for that matter. The 20+ women who participated, of varying ethnicities and varying levels of sexually liberated versus conservative countries of origin, were completely covered below the waist while using personal massagers. “The underlying message: all women deserve to be in control of their sexuality, no matter their background. Women should be free to be empowered by–and have a little fun with–their sexuality,” Alberti wrote on his website. Similarly, Fan Yang, Global Brand Manager of Smile Makers (a sexual wellbeing brand that partnered with Alberti for this project) noted that the goal was to break through stigma and show female pleasure in a positive, healthy light. The hope is that not only society normalizes female pleasure, but that women themselves connect to their sexuality without “shame and secrecy.”Given that all the women who participated were “in awe” seeing themselves “glowing and radiant” in their final photo, as Yang put it, it feels safe to say mission: accomplished.Take a look: An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com An O Project participant. marcosalberti.com In a video posted to YouTube, we get a behind-the-scenes look at Alberti’s process. Welcoming the models in, setting up his camera behind a curtain for privacy, talking them through the process, making them feel safe and comfortable, etc.We also get to see the “awe” that Yang spoke of. It’s palpable. “Initially, I was still apprehensive… [with] a lot of worry. And this one [referring to the final image] is like “Ha! Life is beautiful!” one woman shared, grinning ear-to-ear. - YouTube www.youtube.com We can talk ad nauseam about how women’s pleasure shouldn’t be a taboo subject, about how it’s a natural, vital part of her overall wellbeing, how it can lead to better mood, heart health, immune function, sleep, intimacy, self-esteem…yadda, yadda yadda…but there’s nothing like actually witnessing its semi-miraculous powers firsthand. It’s one of the things that make photography so powerful. We feel something raw and honest on a visceral level, so that we can THEN talk about it with empathy and understanding. It’s clear that Alberti knows this on a deep level and is using that knowledge for something truly good. 20 comforting and cheap slow cooker meals that will keep you full this fall

Fall is the unofficial season of the slow cooker. Crisp air and chilly temperatures beckon the kitchen staple out of the cupboard and onto kitchen counters to once again fill the house with savory smells throughout the day. With food costs and grocery bills at an all-time high, slow cookers are great options for cooking up cheap, budget friendly meals in bulk. Slow cooker fans came together on Reddit to share their favorite affordable recipes and meal ideas. These are 20 of the best, budget-friendly slow cooker meals for fall. - YouTube www.youtube.com "3 chicken breasts, a jar of salsa, 1/4 cup taco seasoning, can of black beans, can of corn. 6-8 hours low, shred. The key to stretching it is the meals you make with it. It's taco salad, it's tacos, it's burritos, it's nachos, etc, It goes a long way since it's the protein and not the whole meal, plus it's versatile." - rem87062597"Meatball subs and spaghetti. Bag of frozen meatballs, 1-2 jar of pasta sauce, sub buns, box of spaghetti. Make the meatballs on night one in the slow cooker, make meatball subs. Night 2 is spaghetti, which can be made in the slow cooker, but I recommend a stove. Night 2 becomes leftovers for night 3 and 4 if you made enough/are eating alone. You might even have enough in your budget left over for garlic bread." - PokemonBreederJess"Buy what is on sale. Cheaper cuts of meat work better in the crock pot because of the low and slow nature of cooking., Chuck roast will often go to 4.99/lb. If you can't find a cut under 3 # to get it in your price range then you can ask the butcher to cut you one. You can throw the roast in the crock pot with any liquid you want. Beer and Italian seasonings makes a great Italian beef. There is Coca Cola pot roast, or just water is fine too. Can throw in potatoes and carrots for pot roast style meal. Or use for pulled beef sandwiches or tacos. So versatile." - wi_voter"Ranch chicken, 2-3 pounds of whatever chicken cut is on sale (thighs, breasts, drumsticks, quarters, cutlets, it doesn’t matter!), 2 large potatoes cut into 4ths or a good helping of mini potatoes, a half cup of baby carrots, ranch packet, cream of whatever soup (personal favorite celery). Low all day or high for 3-4 hours." - LimeCookies"Sliced Pork loin, diced potatoes, can of diced tomatoes, 1/4 cup brown sugar, cup of water, 2 beef bouillon cubes, 2 tablespoons butter, 3 tablespoons corn starch & granulated garlic." - Longhorn7779 @stephgigliotti28 ✨ Crock Pot Cooking Tips You Need to Know! ✨ ? Soften cream cheese the easy way → Set it on top of your crock pot lid about an hour before cooking is done. The heat will soften it perfectly! ? Making a dessert? Lay a clean kitchen towel under the lid to catch condensation and keep your treats from getting soggy. ? No peeking! Every time you lift the lid, you add 20+ minutes to your cook time. Only open if the recipe says so. ? Low & slow is best, but if you’re short on time, cook on HIGH for half the time listed. (Example: 6 hours on low = 3 hours on high.) ? Shred chicken in seconds with a hand mixer right in the crock pot. Game changer! ? Safety first → Never lock the lid while cooking. The lock is only for travel. ? Traveling with your crock pot? Use a travel bag or box lined with towels, secure the lid with rubber bands, and keep it on the floor of your car. ? Delicious, comforting, and financially a struggle meal for sure." - Hips-Often-Lie"I usually pair (2 cans) green beans with (1 pkg/2 links) smoked sausages, or (2 cans) great northern beans (the white ones) with ham (either cut from ham steak or 1 pkg cubed). Both I cook in a can of chicken broth and one can's worth of water. Medium heat, covered for about 15 minutes. If it's low heat you can cook it longer (like if you're making cornbread)." - ComprehensiveZone931"I love this split pea soup recipe. It's very forgiving, too: I have to omit the onion (spouse can't eat them) so I double the garlic, always comes out fine. If I don't feel like dealing with a ham hock or can't find one, I get a ham steak and cut it up small. Ham steaks tend to be salty so if I'm using one I skip the salt." - chernaboggles"The first time I ever made this chicken / stuffing amalgamation I ate the entire amount over the course of the night, I just kept going back for more and more. ????" - ToeKneeTea - YouTube www.youtube.com "Mississippi pot roast slaps." - mysteryteam"Chicken tortilla soup is pretty cheap if you already have the spices and so soooo good. The way i do it is 2 chicken beasts, 1 can of corn, 1 can of black beans (drained), 1 can of diced tomatoes and another smaller can of diced tomatoes with the green Chiles, 1 small can of tomato paste, 2 chipotle peppers (to be plucked out later) plus the juice from the small can, a dash of garlic and onion powder, maybe at least a 1/2 a tbsp of cumin and paprika or smoked paprika, a little bit of chili powder, then shred a whole bunch of cheese into it I used a whole block of jack cheese last time, and fill the rest up with chicken stock. Use low sodium chicken stock so you can add salt to taste, you may want to go light on the salt b/c the nacho chips you add to your bowl will be salty. I let it go for like 8 hours on low but 4 hrs on high would probably do it too. Tastes even better the next day. This is my bastardization of some recipe I saw online then lost, there's lots of different takes on the recipe. The only thing you might have trouble finding are the canned chipotle peppers but it can probably live without it." - Mohander"Bbq chicken drumsticks. Generously season & dump in bbq sauce. Serve with corn fresh or canned, maybe a baked potato. Both this recipe and the one above are from dinner at the zoo, which I specifically visit for budget slow cooker meals." - CarefulCamel253"Lemon garlic butter chicken thighs." - CarefulCamel253"I made this French beef stew last week and it was just soooooo comforting. I did it in the pressure cooker though - 1hr instead PC instead of 8hr in slow cooker." allevana"My own favorite concoction- slow cooker Salsa chicken Layer Couple boneless chicken breasts, half packet of taco seasoning, small jar of salsa, can of rinsed and drained beans (any kind), corn or hominy, rest of taco seasoning. You can cook it on low or high depending on how much time you have. Shred the chicken when it’s done and mix it all together. Throw in some cooked rice, or eat on tortillas with additional toppings." - snow-haywire - YouTube www.youtube.com "Frozen cooked meatballs. Two bottles of chili sauce. 1 bottle of grape jelly. Quick. Easy. So cheap. Can spread for 2-3 meals." - HighJumpingAlien"Turkey-sweet potato stew can be made fairly cheaply, and is hearty, healthy, and good for leftovers. The amounts below are really just suggestions - if you don't eat meat, leave it out; if you want it more bean-y, use two cans of beans, etc. Dice about half a large onion and sauté in a little oil (I like to use bacon fat for added flavor, but if you don't do pork, it isn't necessary), then add a pound of ground turkey and brown. Peel and finely dice a sweet potato (any size; I usually use a medium to large one). Put the meat, onions, and sweet potato in the slow cooker with a can of lentils or black beans and a can of diced tomatoes (undrained); season with garlic salt. Cook on low for 5-6 hours, or until the sweet potato is cooked through. Serve with shredded cheese and sour cream." - DandyCat2016"Boneless skinless chicken thighs, a can or two of cream of mushroom soup, a teaspoon or two of better than bullion chicken flavor. Low 4-6 hours. Shred the chicken mix back into the gravy, serve over rice with a vegetable on the side. Comfort food for sure. Cheap, easy, and delicious, too." - Little_Season3410"I like to cook dry-rub pork ribs in the slow cooker. The meat just falls off the bone. I use this dry rub. Here are good directions (but I prefer my dry rub recipe instead of the one they mention)." joesperrazza

Mom's 'book report' approach is a brilliant way to deal with baffling Gen Alpha slang

I know it’s our lot in life as we get older to not jive with whatever slang the cool kids come up with, but the Gen Alpha lingo has simply crossed a line, hasn’t? Literally saying “6 7” to signify…nothing? Absurdism has its place, but are we, the ones charged with guiding our future leaders of tomorrow into adulthood, seriously gonna stand idly by and let that kind of brainrot slide? Nay, I say nay! Thankfully, one mom has come up with a brilliant way to respond to what nonsense parents might hear coming out of their kids' mouths. “What I've been doing with my two sons is I’ve been ‘book reporting’ them,” said content creator @Dewwwdropzz in a TikTok. @dewwwdropzzz ♬ original sound - Dewwwdropzz Essentially, what she means is that any time her kids come home and say something ludicrous like “6 7,” she has them do research on where the term actually came from. “We go on a journey together, and we decide to research what that means, where it comes from, why it happened, and where it stemmed from.”So far, her kids haven’t rebutted with another Gen Alpha phrase, “It’s not that deep,” primarily because they are already being taught that everything is, in fact, interconnected in some way. However, if she ever does hear those words, you can bet that there will be a book report on it. @juventus 6 7 ?️‼️‼️‼️ #meme #67 #UCL #juventus #bvb (meme assets: @??Первобытный?? ♬ original sound - Sanity This is a pretty cool idea, as it addresses questionable behavior without resorting to punishment, while also helping kids develop critical thinking, research skills, curiosity, and, perhaps most importantly, the wherewithal to not mindlessly parrot what they hear from others. All attributes that feel rather…vital, in this day and age, wouldn't you agree?Other folks seemed to be on board with the concept and were eager to try it out themselves. “This is probably the best thing you can do for your kid. I’m going to start this with mine.” “I’m putting this in the back pocket for sure.”Others, including parents and teachers, shared similar strategies they've already incorporated. @mrcoachwhitehead and that’s what that means! #fyp #foryou #teachersoftiktok #education #highschoolteacher ♬ original sound - eazye_editz "My rule is that they can't use words if they don't know the meaning," a commenter wrote. "This started after my oldest (8 at the time) came home saying ‘uwu.’ He heard it at school and thought it was a funny sound. Which is fine, but words have meaning. I don't want him hearing offensive words and causing someone harm just because they ‘sound cool.”“If one of my students keeps interrupting saying these things I ask them to please stand up and explain what they are saying to the class, what it means, and why it is so vitally important that we needed to hear it right now," a teacher wrote. "If one actually knows we applaud because they not only knew but had the bravery to give an impromptu lesson. That has happened twice in 3 years. Usually they apologize and choose to stop.’”Others were begging that the meaning “6 7” be explained. Again, people, it’s intentionally meaningless. Hilarious, right? Let’s just pray it goes the way of “cheugy.”
