Former President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home could soon be closed to visitors, at least up until the end of election season.

Kevin Costner’s Western film “Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1” will be available to watch on streaming service Max beginning next Friday, August 23, per Variety. The first installment of the film series was a box office disappointment, leading the studio to push back the second film’s theatrical release from its original scheduled date of August 11. A New Line Cinema rep said this move was planned to “give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of ‘Horizon’ over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and Max.” “Horizon: Chapter 1” earned just $11 million at the box office against a $100 million production budget. Costner used $38 million of his own money to help fund the project and was aggressively seeking backers for the intended third film. Costner wrote, directed, and starred in the movie. “Horizon: Chapter 2” will now debut at the Venice Film Festival on September 7. Production for the third film already began in the spring and a script for the fourth has been distributed to key crew members, the outlet noted. Costner had previously blamed “TikTok culture” on the film’s lackluster performance. He said modern audiences aren’t equipped to deal with lengthy movies, and “Horizon” is three hours long. “It’s real cinema, folks. So be prepared. We ain’t used to that s***. We’re used to 90-minute movies. Everything’s 90 minutes…Get over that s***,” the actor told TMZ in July. He added, “Let’s watch a movie that actually tells a story. Where you learn about the people and grow to like them — or hate them. It’s not all fast, cut, cut, cut.” When asked if short-form content like clips on TikTok were to blame, he said, “Totally, they are. Of course they are. They gotta get over that crap…They gotta learn what it’s like to watch real cinema.”

Former President Donald Trump has enlisted the help of 2020 Democratic presidential candidate Tulsi Gabbard as he prepares to debate Vice President Kamala Harris, according to The New York Times. Gabbard, a former Democratic representative from Hawaii, famously lambasted Harris over her record as a prosecutor during a Democratic primary debate in 2019. Gabbard visited Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in southern Florida to “help sharpen his attacks in a recent practice session,” the Times reported. Trump campaign Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed that Gabbard was involved with Trump’s debate prep, telling the Times in a statement that Trump has “proven to be one of the best debaters in political history as evidenced by his knockout blow to Joe Biden.” “He does not need traditional debate prep but will continue to meet with respected policy advisers and effective communicators like Tulsi Gabbard, who successfully dominated Kamala Harris on the debate stage in 2020,” Leavitt added. She kept people in prison beyond their sentences to use them as cheap labor for the state of California. And she fought to keep [the] cash bail system in place that impacts poor people in the worse kind of way.” In a recent article, the Associated Press described the 2019 debate as a “low moment” for the Harris campaign, and The New York Times reported in 2019 that many of her advisers pointed to the debate exchange with Gabbard as the beginning of the end of her 2020 presidential bid. She dropped out of the primary in December 2019 before the first votes were cast. Gabbard stayed in the race until March of 2020. The former congresswoman from Hawaii left the Democratic Party in October 2022, saying it “is under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers who are driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue and stoking anti-white racism, who actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms that are enshrined in our Constitution, who are hostile to people of faith and spirituality.” Last month, Gabbard threw her support behind Trump’s 2024 bid, writing on X, “We need leaders back in the White House who are committed to the Constitution, defending our God-given freedoms, and towards a peaceful and prosperous future. Instead of practicing against a mock opponent, Trump discusses potential questions and topics with his advisers, according to the Times. Sometimes, Trump aides sit in chairs facing the former president and act as the debate moderators. Trump has also spent time discussing policy positions with Republican lawmakers and his running mate, Sen. JD Vance (R-OH). The first debate between Trump and Harris is set to take place in Philadelphia on September 10 on ABC News and will be moderated by David Muir and Linsey Davis. Trump has pushed for two additional debates — one on Fox News on September 4 and another on NBC on September 25 — but Harris only agreed to the ABC News debate and one other in October.

Vice President Kamala Harris appears to be copying yet another economic policy supported by the Trump-Vance ticket. The Harris campaign announced Friday that she supports a $6,000 child tax credit. Her expanded child tax credit involves “up to $6,000 in total tax relief for middle-income and low-income families for the first year of their child’s life when a family’s expenses  are highest—with cribs, diapers, car seats and more—and many parents are still forced to forgo income as they take time off from their job,” the campaign said. The Harris campaign’s announcement came just days after Senator JD Vance said he would support doubling the child tax credit to $5,000. “I’d love to see a child tax credit that’s $5,000 per child,” Vance said in an interview with CBS on Sunday. President Trump is reportedly weighing whether to endorse Vance’s policy suggestion. “President Trump will consider a significant expansion of the child tax credit that applies to American families,” a Trump campaign official told Semafor. “President Trump respects and listens to his running mate Senator Vance.” Harris’ child tax credit announcement was part of the campaign’s unveiling of her economic platform, which includes a slew of other polices. The Democratic nominee also blindsided Democrats when she announced that she supported getting rid of taxes on service workers’ tips. “It is my promise to everyone here when I am president, we will continue our fighting for working families of America including to raise the minimum wage and eliminate taxes on tips for service and hospitality workers,” she said at a rally in Las Vegas on Saturday. Trump had announced his “no tax on tips” policy just weeks earlier after his own June rally in Las Vegas, an area with a large service and hospitality industry due to the city’s tourism attractions. Trump supporters had promoted the policy by writing “no tax on tips” on receipts at restaurants to encourage service workers to vote for Trump. Trump himself wrote the message on a receipt when he tipped $500 during a visit to a Philadelphia cheesesteak restaurant. After his opponent embraced the policy, the Trump campaign accused her of stealing it. “Kamala Harris, whose ‘Honeymoon’ period is ENDING, and is starting to get hammered in the Polls, just copied my NO TAXES ON TIPS Policy,” Trump posted on Truth Social. “The difference is, she won’t do it, she just wants it for Political Purposes! Federal prosecutors appear to be zeroing in on New York City Mayor Eric Adams (D) in their corruption investigation into whether his campaign conspired with the Turkish government to receive illegal foreign donations in exchange for actions that he took as mayor. The New York Times reported that the prosecutors recently served a new round of grand jury subpoenas in their criminal investigation, including to Adams himself, who they are now investigating. Prior to this development, most information that was publicly available pointed to prosecutors focusing only on his campaign and not the mayor directly, even though they seized his electronic devices last year. The investigation, which is being run out of the Southern District of New York, centers around allegations that Adams’ election campaign received illegal campaign contributions from the Turkish government, possibly in exchange for actions taken by Adams, who has close ties to the country. The criminal probe has focused on free upgrades the mayor received on Turkish Airlines flights and on Adams pressuring then-Fire Commissioner Daniel A. Nigro in 2021 to allow the Turkish government to at least have permission to occupy on a temporary basis a new high-rise consulate in Manhattan that the Turkish government built, which fire officials would not sign off on because of safety issues. Adams’ alleged intervention “paved the way” for Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan to preside over the grand opening of their 35-story tower in September 2021. Fire officials said that there were serious safety concerns with the building’s fire safety system. The building, which cost $300 million, is the country’s most expensive foreign mission project. Buy here for a theater near you. “To be clear, we have not identified any evidence of illegal conduct by the mayor,” said two lawyers who are representing Adams and his campaign. “To the contrary, we have identified extensive evidence undermining the reported theories of federal prosecution as to the mayor, which we have voluntarily shared with the U.S. attorney.” Adams responded to the latest development in a radio interview on Friday morning where he maintained his innocence and said he “did nothing wrong.” “We’ve been extremely transparent about making sure if there are documents that’s looked at, they want to see text messages or any other items, we’re going to turn it over and walk away, I believe, showing that I did nothing wrong,” Adams said. “I am a former law enforcement person, I believe in following the rules, and I’ve stated over and over again and our team knows that we’re going to turn over any information that is needed.”

Ceasefire negotiations in the Israel-Gaza war concluded Friday, though some details in the last-ditch peace effort still need to be worked out, according to a joint statement published by the United States, Qatar, and Egypt. Negotiations kicked off Thursday in Doha, reportedly without a representative for Hamas present. Senior officials will reconvene in Cairo next week to help finalize the agreement, the statement said. The talks, which the statement described as “intensive,” aimed to reach an agreement for a ceasefire, release of hostages, and Palestinian “detainees.” The potential new proposal comes after multiple failed negotiations and increasing tensions in the region, and with Hezbollah and Iran’s promised retaliatory attacks on Israel looming.  “This proposal builds on areas of agreement over the past week, and bridges remaining gaps in the manner that allows for a swift implementation of the deal,” the statement read.  Tickets for “Am I Racist?” are on sale NOW! Big tech employees overwhelmingly support Wisconsin Sen. Tammy Baldwin (D.), contributing tens of thousands of dollars to her campaign while giving no money to Republican challenger Eric Hovde, according to a review of Federal Election Commission data. Employees and high level executives at the Big Five — Apple, Amazon, Google, Meta, and Microsoft — are stepping in to help Baldwin amid her contentious campaign for a third term in the Senate. The notoriously left-learning tech industry has come under increasing scrutiny in recent weeks as Google and Meta face accusations of censoring information about the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.  Baldwin has received nearly $70,000 dollars from employees of the Big Five, with over half coming from employees at Google, according to a Daily Wire review of Federal Election Commission data. Hovde, a Wisconsin businessman, appears to have received no donations to his Hovde for Wisconsin or Hovde Victory Committee from workers at those tech companies. Employees and executives of Google and its parent company, Alphabet, have given at least $35,520 in donations to Baldwin so far this election cycle. Kent Walker, president of global affairs at Google and Alphabet, has donated $6,600 to Baldwin this election cycle while Google CMO Lorraine Twohill gave Baldwin $3,300. Fernando Pereira, a vice president and engineering fellow at Google, gave $1,500 to Baldwin while Vinton Cerf, another Google executive, gave the Democratic senator $3,300.  Donations from employees at the other four tech giants were similarly lopsided, though smaller in number. Amazon employees gave Baldwin $13,172, while Microsoft employees gave her $12,175. Workers at Apple donated just $4,575, while Meta employees gave $2,721.  While Baldwin won her last election in 2018 by over 10 points, her race this November is expected to be closer, with Wisconsin projected to be one of the battleground states that determines the result of the presidential election. Zach Bannon, a spokesman for Hovde, said that the tech donations showed that Baldwin is a “bought and paid for corporate special interest career politician.” “She sides with the big-tech donors that fund her campaign over the concerns of everyday Wisconsinites, which is why the people of Wisconsin are tired of corrupt career politicians and are ready for change,” he told The Daily Wire.  As a senator, Baldwin has called for crackdowns on alleged “misinformation” on topics from monkeypox to COVID vaccines, frequently calling on companies like Facebook and Google to further restrict certain information.  For example, in January 2021 Baldwin joined efforts to urge social media platforms like Google and Facebook to restrict posts critical of COVID vaccines.  “While we understand that your companies have implemented policies regarding the removal of vaccine-related misinformation and dedicated resources to stop the spread of misinformation, we believe more must be done. The search engine has consistently asserted that it is politically neutral and not biased against conservatives.  However, in the weeks following the assassination attempt on Trump, users noticed that Google would not autocomplete searches related to the attack. In response, Republican lawmakers have launched an investigation into the platform, calling for comprehensive documentation of the company’s policies and programs.  None of the Big Five returned requests for comment. 

“X-Men ’97” creator and head writer Beau DeMayo claims he was fired from the Marvel series earlier this year for posting about gay pride, but the company recently issued a statement refuting that charge following some posts DeMayo made on social media. “Mr. DeMayo was terminated in March 2024 following an internal investigation,” the studio said in a statement, per Variety. “Given the egregious nature of the findings, we severed ties with him immediately and he has no further affiliation with Marvel.” A source told the outlet that DeMayo was accused of sexual misconduct and also violated his termination agreement. Those charges were not officially confirmed. DeMayo shared his thoughts in a social post on Thursday night. The entertainment company released a series of Pride-focused comic book covers throughout the month of June featuring LGBTQ characters. The company also posted on social media throughout June to celebrate Pride month. DeMayo frequently tweeted about “X-Men ’97” on his personal social media account, revealing details and storylines there. He also advertised a non-explicit OnlyFans account and posted topless photos of himself. The LGBTQ publication Out named DeMayo, “the Sexy, Gay Marvel Showrunner and Writer to Know” in 2022.
