Lessons From Other Campus Protests

The year was 1966 and Ronald Reagan was running for governor of California. A major part of his platform was to “clean up the mess at Berkeley” and other college campuses throughout the state that were experiencing protests and strikes over issues that included the military draft‚ civil rights and “women’s issues.” While not on a scale of the pro-Hamas‚ anti-Israel‚ anti-America and Jewish hatred we are witnessing now on several college campuses‚ Reagan’s response could instruct current college presidents and admissions officers to quell the unrest. The Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History has preserved Reagan’s remarks and later actions as governor. In a campaign speech‚ Reagan said many leftist campus movements had transcended legitimate protest‚ with the actions of &;quot;beatniks‚ radicals and filthy speech advocates&;quot; having more to do &;quot;with rioting‚ with anarchy&;quot; than &;quot;academic freedom.&;quot; He faulted university administrators and faculty‚ who &;quot;press their particular value judgments&;quot; on students‚ for &;quot;a leadership gap and a morality and decency gap&;quot; on campus‚ and suggested a code of conduct be imposed on faculty to &;quot;force them to serve as examples of good behavior and decency.&;quot; Morality‚ good behavior and decency appear to be electives‚ not requirements‚ on too many of today’s university campuses whose “students” (and apparently not all are students) are now running the institutions of what might be called lower learning. Six months after becoming governor in 1967‚ Reagan wrote a letter to Glenn Dumke‚ chancellor of San Francisco State College‚ who opposed the unrest occurring on many California campuses. In it‚ Reagan condemned “these people and this trash” who used “the excuse of academic freedom and freedom of expression” to justify continuation of the protests. “We wouldn’t tolerate this kind of language in front of our families.” He called on Dumke to “lay down some rules of conduct and promised “you’d have (all the) backing I could give you.” We need to hear more of this type of talk to counter the anarchists and hatred of Jews and Israel and support of terrorist organizations on today’s college campuses. Even more than talk‚ action is needed. Writing in The Wall Street Journal‚ Ira Stoll says the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Open Society Foundation headed by George Soros have been contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to leftist organizations that funnel money to groups that are behind these campus upheavals. At a minimum the IRS should take a look at their tax-exempt status to see if they have violated regulations pertaining to what is allowable for nonprofits. The government should also look at whether any of those shouting antisemitic and anti-American slogans are here on student visas. If they are those visas should be revoked and the students deported. Others who are found guilty of giving aid and comfort to terrorists should be expelled. Some wealthy donors to Columbia University and other schools have pledged to withdraw financial support if order and decorum are not restored. All of this feeds the view that America is coming apart. Where are the leaders like Ronald Reagan who label this behavior for what it is and then do something about it&;#63; Reagan ended his letter to Dumke with a question that should answer itself: “Hasn’t the time come to take on those neurotics in our faculty group and lay down some rules of conduct for the students comparable to what we’d expect in our own families&;#63;” If that time had come in 1967‚ surely it is long past due in 2024.

Networks BLACKOUT Columbia Students Wishing ‘Glory to All Our Martyrs’

Overnight‚ anti-Semitic/pro-Hamas extremists at Columbia – who’ve been chanting for the murder of Jews – took over an academic building. Come Tuesday morning‚ the liberal broadcast networks (ABC‚ CBS‚ and NBC) hyped the development but conspicuously omitted the nastier details reported throughout the night: wishes for “glory to all our martyrs” (a.k.a. Hamas)‚ assaulting other students who locked arms to stop them from breaking down the doors‚ and a report that they took a facility worker “hostage.” “Despite warnings of suspension and expulsion for students involved in the encampment here at Columbia University‚ some pro-Palestinian protesters set up more tents on campus and stormed that academic building overnight. They say it is all in support of Gaza‚” boasted ABC correspondent Stephanie Ramos during Good Morning America. Adding: “Video capturing students slamming desks‚ breaking windows‚ and barricading themselves inside.” Over on CBS Mornings‚ co-anchor Gayle King tried to downplay the illegal occupation of Hamilton Hall by noting the “building has been occupied many times over the years.” But she did tout that the pro-terrorist mob “hung a banner renaming Hamilton Hall for a little girl killed in Gaza;” while ignoring their “intifada” banner. King also called it &;quot;the War on Gaza&;quot; as if the Palestinians didn't start the war with Hamas's October 7 terrorist attack. “Social media footage shows dozens of masked protesters using a hammer to take over Hamilton Hall‚ a building at Columbia University‚ just before 1 a.m. The group can be seen inside running around‚ with some placing chairs and tables in front of the doors‚ barricading themselves in‚” reported CBS correspondent Tom Hanson.     For NBC’s Today‚ correspondent George Solis noted the “intifada” banner but failed to explain that it meant the targeted killing of Jews. He also framed the occupation of the building as just a response to university officials suspending students for not dismantling the encampment: Overnight‚ campus protests escalating. Demonstrators occupying a building at Columbia University smashing windows‚ barring the doors‚ and unfurling banners – including one reading intifada – after protesters circled the campus earlier in the night. The unrest coming just hours after the university started suspending students who refused to leave an encampment after a deadline had passed. All three of them used the “social media footage” that was going around last night‚ but they all sanitized their reports by refusing to show or mention some of the more heinous things that occurred during the seizure of the building. In addition to multiple reports that a message of “glory to all our martyrs” was put out by organizers of the encampment‚ there were videos of their leader Khymani James whipping up the crowd into a frenzy to violently assault three students who linked arms in an attempt to keep the mob from storming Hamilton Hall.   Here is video of him leading the mob to assault 3 students trying to protect the building. pic.twitter.com/du3OlsCqUo — AG (@AGHamilton29) April 30‚ 2024   James was supposedly expelled from the university after a video circulated online of him giving a blood-thirsty rant against Jews. Other videos showed 63-year-old “professional protest consultant” Lisa Fithian suggesting the students protecting the building were the “assholes” (above) and directing other students to flip large metal tables to barricade the doors.   BREAKING.🚨 All charges have been *DROPPED* against Pro-Hamas rioters who took over Hamilton Hall at Columbia University on Monday night. Columbia U. refused to let NYPD in despite protesters allegedly committing unlawful detention‚ vandalism &; assault.pic.twitter.com/kwgFxWtmv6 — Kyle Becker (@kylenabecker) April 30‚ 2024   Further excluded by the broadcast networks‚ Hen Mazzig‚ founder of the Tel Aviv Institute reported that the students held a university facilities worker “hostage” for a time   Protesters inside Hamilton Hall at Columbia University have hung banners reading “Intifada&;quot; after they vandalized and took over a university building last night. A Columbia facilities worker was “held hostage” as students occupied the hall. And then overnight protesters here in New York at Columbia barricaded themselves inside the school and now the university is taking more action. Stephanie Ramos is there on the scene for us. Good morning to you‚ Stephanie. STEPHANIE RAMOS: Robin‚ good morning. Despite warnings of suspension and expulsion for students involved in the encampment here at Columbia University‚ some pro-Palestinian protesters set up more tents on campus and stormed that academic building overnight. They say it is all in support of Gaza. [Cuts to video] Overnight‚ pro-Palestinian protesters gathering outside Columbia University's Hamilton Hall and then storming the building. Video capturing students slamming desks‚ breaking windows‚ and barricading themselves inside. Just after 12:30 a.m. this morning‚ dozens left the encampment and entered the hall. Students‚ defiant. Refusing to dismantle their encampment. PRO-HAMAS PROTESTER: You need to stop bombing. You need to stop the indiscriminate killing‚ massacre of Palestinians in Gaza. That's how you end the war. (…) CBS Mornings April 30‚ 2024 7:06:27 a.m. Eastern GAYLE KING: Now to breaking news overnight‚ a major escalation in the protest at Columbia University where demonstrators against the War on Gaza have now broken into a building on campus. The group hung a banner renaming Hamilton Hall for a little girl killed in Gaza. That building has been occupied many times over the years. Tom Hanson is there at a very tense moment with police standing by. Tom‚ good morning to you. It was tense all afternoon‚ yesterday. My heart was racing‚ watching that video on the campus yesterday afternoon. TOM HANSON: That is an understatement. Gayle‚ good morning to you. Protests at Columbia University continued well into the night after the school began suspending protesting students refusing to leave their encampment‚ but those demonstrations escalated to an outright occupation of this campus building just behind me. [Cuts to video] Social media footage shows dozens of masked protesters using a hammer to take over Hamilton Hall‚ a building at Columbia University‚ just before 1 a.m. The group can be seen inside running around‚ with some placing chairs and tables in front of the doors‚ barricading themselves in. They also took the second floor‚ unraveling the building and reclaiming the building as Hind’s Hall in honor of a six-year-old girl who was killed in Gaza this year. (…) NBC’s Today April 30‚ 2024 7:03:28 a.m. Eastern (…) GEORGE SOLIS: Tensions here at Columbia University reaching a fervor pitch. Columbia Public Safety officials issuing that public advisory to most students and faculty urging them to avoid campus today after demonstrators took over the building on campus. It comes as that deadline for the voluntary dispersement of the encampment here on campus came and went. All this‚ as the campus clashes continue nationwide. [Cuts to video] Overnight‚ campus protests escalating. Demonstrators occupying a building at Columbia University smashing windows‚ barring the doors‚ and unfurling banners – including one reading intifada – after protesters circled the campus earlier in the night. America's heartland torn apart by tornado outbreak

America’s heartland was devastated by 144 confirmed tornadoes on Friday and Saturday‚ leaving many injured and much property lost. The tornadoes ranged from EF-0 to EF-3 and destroyed communities all the way from Texas to Iowa. In one video that a brave civilian captured‚ a tornado crosses the path of a train in Nebraska‚ absolutely obliterating everything it touches — except for the train. While the tornadoes in Nebraska were devastating‚ there were thankfully no casualties reported. “How did everyone survive this in Nebraska&;#63;” Keith Malinak says‚ astounded. “Yeah‚ it’s amazing‚” Pat Gray agrees. In another video‚ a man stands outside to capture video of a tornado approaching his home while his wife begs him to come inside. He records until the last minute when the tornado breaks into two separate tornadoes — which is absolutely terrifying. “Their home got destroyed‚ by the way‚” Malinak says‚ adding that one tornado came within a half a mile of his family’s home in Elkhorn‚ Nebraska. “Makes you count your blessings‚ doesn’t it&;#63;” Gray says. While there were luckily many survivors‚ there was much property damage‚ many homes destroyed‚ and unfortunately some casualties in other places‚ like Oklahoma. Those victims can be helped at Mercury One‚ where 100% of donations go to those in affected areas. “If you can contribute‚ it would be greatly appreciated. There’s a lot of rebuilding to do‚” Gray says. University of Florida issues perfect response after student protesters break rules and get arrested: 'Not a daycare'

The University of Florida is not playing around.Multiple student protesters were arrested on Monday for refusing to comply with university rules about protests. Pro-Palestinian students have been demonstrating on the University of Florida's campus in Gainesville since last Wednesday.In a statement after the arrests‚ UF spokesman Steve Orlando explained the university had given the protesters ample opportunity to comply with rules‚ but they refused. Now‚ those protesters are facing the consequences of their actions.&;quot;This is not complicated: The University of Florida is not a daycare‚ and we do not treat protesters like children — they knew the rules‚ they broke the rules‚ and they’ll face the consequences‚&;quot; Orlando said.&;quot;For many days‚ we have patiently told protesters — many of whom are outside agitators — that they were able to exercise their right to free speech and free assembly. And we also told them that clearly prohibited activities would result in a trespassing order from UPD (barring them from all university properties for three years) and an interim suspension from the university‚&;quot; he explained. &;quot;For days UPD patiently and consistently reiterated the rules‚&;quot; Orlando said. &;quot;Today‚ individuals who refused to comply were arrested after UPD gave multiple warnings and multiple opportunities to comply.&;quot; — (@) Last week‚ University of Florida officials laid out strict guidelines for the protests and warned of immediate consequences to any student or university employee who violated those rules.A university flier stated that &;quot;allowable activities&;quot; included &;quot;speech‚&;quot; &;quot;expressing viewpoints‚&;quot; and &;quot;holding signs in hands.&;quot; But demonstrating inside buildings‚ littering‚ blocking entrances and exits‚ camping‚ threats‚ violence‚ and other disruptions would be strictly prohibited.Students who violated the rules would be given a three-year trespass and suspension‚ the flier warned. Employees‚ moreover‚ would be trespassed and &;quot;separated from employment.&;quot;&;quot;Peaceful protests are constitutionally protected‚&;quot; the university said last week‚ &;quot;but breaking the law will result in an immediate trespassing order from UFPD and an interim suspension from Student Life.&;quot;Meanwhile at Columbia University‚ where administrators have been negotiating with and appeasing anti-Israel students‚ protesters are now occupying a building on campus.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Leftist MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace actually suggests Trump may take her off the air if he wins back presidency

Left-wing MSNBC anchor Nicolle Wallace suggested that if former President Donald Trump wins back the presidency in November‚ he may take her off the air.Say what&;#63;Wallace began her mini-monologue Monday by calling attention to the White House Correspondents' Dinner‚ which took place over the weekend. Wallace called the annual event &;quot;one of the signs of a healthy‚ functioning democracy&;quot; where &;quot;a president doing everything right&;quot; — that is to say‚ Joe Biden‚ according to her — &;quot;celebrates and honors a free press.&;quot;But she added that this year there was a &;quot;darker undercurrent&;quot; at the dinner — i.e.‚ the very real possibility that Trump could win back the White House. With that‚ Wallace declared‚ &;quot;At this exact time next year‚ depending on what happens in November‚ seven months from now‚ we can’t say for certain that there would even be a White House Correspondents’ Dinner‚ or even a free press‚ or even a White House Press Corps. Right&;#63; Don't have to have one. Could be another norm Trump blows up.&;quot;Wallace curiously lavished praise on Colin Jost of &;quot;Saturday Night Live&;quot; — who was tapped to tell jokes at the dinner — calling him an &;quot;ever-hilarious superstar.&;quot; (Wallace may want to check out the New York Times' assessment of Jost's performance‚ which says his attempts at humor &;quot;fell flat.&;quot;)She also noted Biden's toast &;quot;to a free press&;quot; at the conclusion of the event &;quot;landed very differently this year‚ because depending what happens in November‚ seven months from right now‚ this time next year I might not be sitting here. There might not be a White House Correspondents’ Dinner or a free press.&;quot; Nicolle Wallace says she could be taken off the air if Trump wins youtu.be At the dinner‚ Biden stated that &;quot;the defeated former president has made no secret of his attack on our democracy. He said he wants to be a dictator on Day One‚ and so much more. He tells supporters he is their revenge and retribution. When in God’s name have you ever heard of another president say something like that&;#63; And he promised a bloodbath when he loses again. We have to take this seriously. Eight years ago it was written off as ‘just Trump talk.’ But‚ no longer. Not after January 6th.&;quot; Mediaite noted that Biden also told the journalists in the room that &;quot;I’m sincerely not asking you to take sides. I’m asking you to rise up to the seriousness of the moment.”Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here&;#33;

Biden demands more gun laws after 4 law enforcement officers are killed trying to enforce existing gun law

Four law enforcement officers were killed in North Carolina on Monday and several more wounded as they attempted to serve a warrant in connection with illegal gun possession.Around 1:30 p.m. on Monday‚ members of a U.S. Marshals Task Force arrived at a home on the east side of Charlotte‚ North Carolina‚ to serve a warrant. The subject of the warrant‚ 39-year-old Terry Clark Hughes Jr.‚ was wanted in connection with possession of a firearm by a felon and two counts of felony fleeing to elude out of nearby Lincoln County.As officers approached the home‚ shots suddenly rang out‚ striking several members of the task force. Officers then returned fire as shots from inside the residence continued. Hughes eventually emerged from the residence‚ still apparently shooting at the police. Hughes was then fatally shot by one of the officers on scene‚ and he died in the front yard. Even as Hughes lay dying‚ individuals from inside the home reportedly continued to shoot at the cops.Three members of law enforcement who were shot during the gunfire died almost immediately: state Department of Adult Correction Officers Sam Poloche and William &;quot;Alden&;quot; Elliott and an unnamed deputy marshal with the U.S. Marshals Service. A fourth member of the task force‚ Officer Joshua Eyer of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department‚ was initially wounded and was raced to the hospital‚ but he succumbed to his injuries later that day.&;quot;Officer Eyer faithfully served the CMPD's North Tryon Division for six years and was a member of the 178th Recruit Class‚&;quot; said a statement from CMPD Chief Johnny Jennings. &;quot;We are forever indebted to Officer Eyer for his bravery and ultimate sacrifice. His life and service will never be forgotten. Please say a prayer for Officer Eyer's loved ones during this difficult time.&;quot; In addition to the deceased officers‚ four other officers were wounded. Their current condition is unknown.After the shoot-out‚ a standoff between CMPD's SWAT team and individuals inside the home began and continued for hours. Two females‚ one of whom is just 17 years old‚ were eventually removed from the home. They were taken in for questioning and are considered persons of interest. By 5 p.m.‚ officers declared the area safe for normal road traffic.Politicians at the local‚ state‚ and federal level immediately issued statements expressing their condolences and their support and admiration for law enforcement. U.S. Sen. Thom Tillis (R-N.C.) said: &;quot;An attack in Charlotte on our brave law enforcement officers who swore an oath to protect and serve us all. Susan and I are praying for everyone’s safety.&;quot;North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper (D) likewise offered prayers for the victims and claimed he'd &;quot;offered state resources to help.&;quot;President Biden also weighed in‚ calling the fallen officers &;quot;heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.&;quot; However‚ as is his wont‚ he then used the deadly incident to demand more gun laws. &;quot;Now‚&;quot; he said.&;quot;Leaders in Congress need to step up so that we ban assault weapons and high-capacity magazines‚ require safe storage of guns‚ and pass universal background checks and a national red flag law‚&;quot; his statement continued.&;quot;Enough is enough.&;quot;Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. ‘Alligators are in the Rio Grande’: Texas Gov. Abbott warns would-be illegal aliens about risks of crossing border river

Texas Republican Gov. Greg Abbott recently warned would-be illegal aliens who are considering crossing the Rio Grande to enter the United States unlawfully that the water is infested with alligators.Abbott re-shared a video post on X that showed an alligator in the river near Eagle Pass‚ Texas. According to the post‚ the footage was captured by a local resident who came across the reptile while fishing one morning. Independent journalist Auden B. Cabello noted that Border Patrol agents have also previously confirmed alligator sightings in the river.Abbott wrote on Sunday in response to the video‚ “Alligators are in the Rio Grande. FYI there are warning signs posted in some sectors. Cross at your own risk.” Alligators are in the Rio Grande.\n\nFYI there are warning signs posted in some sectors.\n\nCross at your own risk. — (@) Last year‚ the governor shared a similar video of the creature lurking alongside a Texas National Guard boat before disappearing under the water.“The Texas National Guard took this picture in the Rio Grande river near Eagle Pass‚” Abbott said. The Texas National Guard took this picture in the Rio Grande river near Eagle Pass. — (@) Abbott’s office issued a press release last week stating that its multi-agency Operation Lone Star effort is still working together to “fill the dangerous gaps” in the border wall‚ including installing concertina wire in El Paso.Spc. Newman Gideon with the Texas National Guard stated‚ “My responsibility on the border is to provide security for the teams going in and clearing out brush to make way for more concertina wire.”“If there’s a hole that’s already been cut‚ we are going to take pliers and wire cutters to repair and close that gap [illegal immigrants] created. It’s important that [the Texas National Guard] is here to stop migrants crossing into the United States‚” he added.Abbott recently shared a video showing the continued construction of the border wall in Zapata County.“Texas won’t back down‚” Abbott wrote on X. “We are using every tool available to secure the border in Biden’s absence.” Construction continues on the Texas border wall in Zapata County.\n\nTexas won\u2019t back down.\n\nWe are using every tool available to secure the border in Biden\u2019s absence. — (@) The state is also working to build the Forward Operating Base near Eagle Pass to provide housing to the thousands of Texas National Guard troops assisting with the ongoing crisis at the southern border. So far‚ the governor’s Operation Lone Star has led to the apprehension of nearly 510‚000 illegal migrants and the arrests of another roughly 42‚100 criminals. Additionally‚ the operation has seized more than 476 million lethal doses of fentanyl.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Blaze News original: 7 times violent crooks were released — sometimes with no bail — and soon were charged with more violence

Stories have flooded the news cycle in recent years about authorities releasing violent criminals from custody — sometimes with no bail and despite violent charges already on their records — after which they're soon charged with committing violent crimes again. It's an issue that has many observers angry‚ frustrated‚ and fed up with woke politicians‚ district attorneys‚ judges‚ and social justice warriors who seem intent on keeping dangerous individuals out of jail and on streets and committing more violent crimes. Just this month‚ a 30-year-old male allegedly punched a 9-year-old girl in the face while she was with her mother in the dining concourse of New York City's Grand Central Station. WNBC-TV said the suspect got away before the Bronx girl was taken to the hospital‚ the station said. Turns out just days before‚ cops charged the same suspect — later identified as Jean Carlos Zarzuela — reportedly for randomly punching a 54-year-old woman and breaking her nose inside Grand Central. But a source told WNBC-TV that while a judge set Zarzuela's bail at $2‚500 cash — and Zarzuela went to jail — he went before a different judge soon after and was released. Police arrested Zarzuela a few hours after the girl was punched‚ WNBC said. He was charged with assault‚ WPIX-TV said‚ adding that the MTA indicated additional charges are pending. The girl suffered from dizziness and pain‚ WPIX reported‚ citing the Metropolitan Transportation Authority. She's expected to recover‚ WPIX added. Man arrested for punching girl in Grand Central: MTA youtu.be “It doesn’t make any sense that this guy — who recently was released after being charged with randomly punching someone else and breaking that victim’s nose — should be back in a public space where he can attack others‚ especially children‚” MTA Communications Director Tim Minton told WPIX. “The people responsible for the criminal justice system need to learn from this episode before more innocent people become victims.” The following are similar recent examples: Ex-con released with no bail after his arrest for domestic violence against estranged wife; the next day he allegedly shoots her to death in front of her children Adam Bennefield‚ 45‚ was charged with low-level misdemeanors in 2022 in connection with his alleged domestic violence against 30-year-old Keaira Bennefield — and the judge couldn't set bail‚ so he was released. Keaira Bennefield was so afraid of what might happen to her that she wore a bulletproof vest to drop her children off at school. A day later Adam Bennefield allegedly shot her to death in her car in front of her kids‚ ages 6 months to 9 years. The victim's mother said New York Gov. Kathy Hochul's support of cashless bail led to her daughter's murder: &;quot;She should be charged for the crime. She's also responsible for the crime. She failed me. She let me down and my daughter down‚ and she needs to make a change with the bail reform.&;quot;Woman released on zero bail after allegedly ramming car into businesses; a week later she's charged with arson and attempted murderJacqueline Whatley‚ 36‚ was arrested last October after allegedly ramming a car into a Coffee Bean and a sushi restaurant in Los Feliz‚ California‚ KTTV-TV said. Police charged her with vandalism‚ which was eligible for no-cash bail‚ and she was released‚ the station said. About a week later‚ she faced attempted murder charges in connection with setting fires that destroyed a business‚ a home‚ and an occupied tent — and this time she was being held on $1 million bail‚ KTTV said.Woman beats man with pole‚ released with no bail while deemed 'moderate risk'; days later she kills mother of 8 Vanessa Harvey‚ 49‚ pleaded guilty in 2023 to voluntary manslaughter in the 2021 death of 42-year-old Machina Goodjoint‚ KLAS-TV reported‚ adding that two weeks before that crime Harvey beat her first victim — a man — with a metal pole. After the first attack‚ Harvey refused to appear for her probable cause hearing on a charge of battery resulting in substantial bodily harm‚ the station said. In the attack against Goodjoint‚ the victim's injuries were so severe that an officer reportedly believed Goodjoint was shot in the face. Harvey was sentenced to four to 10 years in prison and will be eligible for parole next year.Thug reportedly released without bail after allegedly punching woman in face on NYC street — and despite suspect's 7 prior assault arrests“He just punched me on the right side here‚ very strong‚” Dulce Pichardo told WPIX-TV of the late March unprovoked attack in Brooklyn. “I was surprised. I said‚ ‘What’s going on&;#63; Why did you hit me&;#63; Why did you do it&;#63;’ I didn’t do anything. No reason to hit me.&;quot; Officers arrested 33-year-old Franz Jeudy‚ WABC-TV reported. Jeudy was charged with third-degree assault — a misdemeanor‚ which means he wasn't bail-eligible — and he was released‚ the New York Post reported. The paper added that one of Jeudy's prior arrests took place in 2018 when he was charged with second-degree assault for an attack on a cop.Thug arrested multiple times for assaults reportedly released from custody — then just 2 days later accused of brutal hatchet attack against elderly manThe suspect in a brutal hatchet attack against an elderly man last December reportedly was released from custody two days before the attack — and also had 19 bench warrants since 2012 and had been arrested for assaulting firefighters‚ health care workers‚ police officers‚ and strangers. Paleti Anikesi Veniale‚ 30‚ was charged with first-degree attempted murder‚ and prosecutors cited his extensive history of criminal violence when they asked for bail of $1 million.Punk released with no bail after being charged with randomly attacking 2 men; a month later he's accused of punching 19-year-old female in face‚ breaking her nose — (@) CWB Chicago reported that after prosecutors charged Diashun Dixson with randomly attacking two men — one of them 64 years old — at the Chicago French Market in May 2023‚ a judge ordered Dixson to pay a $10‚000 bail deposit. But the outlet said he couldn't post bail and stayed in jail until December when his attorney — citing the state's elimination of cash bail — filed a motion and got Dixson released. CWB Chicago said not even a month later Dixson was accused of randomly punching a 19-year-old female college student so hard in the face that her nose was fractured. The outlet said Dixson was soon back in jail. Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Sign up here&;#33;

NFL to allow padding on helmets for 2024 season in effort to reduce concussions

The NFL has authorized the use of Guardian Caps‚ a layer of padding for the outside of a football helmet‚ to be used during games for the 2024 season.The caps are meant to &;quot;reduce player risk and continue driving innovations in equipment technology‚&;quot; the league said in an announcement. &;quot;Guardian Caps have been authorized for in-game use this season‚&;quot; the league added.The NFL has identified two specific areas where there have been an unnecessary amount of head injuries. The first being practice and training camps.&;quot;We now have two years of data showing significant concussion reductions among players who wear Guardian Caps during practice so players will be permitted to wear the cap during games this upcoming season‚&;quot; said Jeff Miller‚ the NFL's executive vice president overseeing player health and safety.After introducing the Guardian Caps during training camps in 2022‚ the NFL then mandated them during 2023 preseason practices and every regular-season and postseason practice with contact.The league cited a reduction in force from head contact by 10% if one player is wearing a cap and 20% if all players involved in a play are wearing them. To reduce player risk and continue driving innovations in equipment technology‚ Guardian Caps have been authorized for in-game use this season.\n\nHear more from @NFL Chief Medical Officer‚ Dr. Allen Sills: https://t.co/PpqOBxEiHl — (@) Kickoffs are another area of concern. With players running into each other in a full sprint all over the field‚ kickoffs had two times the amount of concussions as a regular football play‚ the NFL found.&;quot;For several years‚ Player Health &; Safety has been tracking kickoff injury data‚ so it's been an area of focus‚&;quot; Chief Football Administrative Officer Dawn Aponte stated. &;quot;We've had discussions with the Competition Committee‚ with Owners Health &; Safety Committee‚ and it was something specifically related to concussions‚ that that injury rate was showing up as 2x the injury rate of a play from scrimmage.&;quot; The NFL is allowing Guardian Caps for games this year‚ thoughts&;#63; — (@) Dr. Ann Bailey Good‚ a senior mechanical engineer at Biocore‚ explained that typically there had been one or two new helmet designs that showed progress toward fewer head injuries. &;quot;This year‚&;quot; she stated‚ &;quot;with five‚ it really speaks to the new technology that's been built into [the helmets].&;quot;The NFL then announced that there are a total of 12 new helmets for players to choose from in 2024‚ including eight specifically for linemen and quarterbacks.&;quot;There are new helmets this year that provide as much – if not more – protection than a different helmet model paired with a Guardian Cap. These developments represent substantial progress in our efforts to make the game safer for players‚&;quot; EVP Miller added.As for the Guardian Caps at practices‚ they were mandated for players in positions that engage in significant amounts of contact on most plays: running backs‚ fullbacks‚ linemen‚ and linebackers.This left just kickers‚ punters‚ quarterbacks‚ wide receivers‚ and defensive backs as those who weren't required to wear them.Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox. Baton Rouge residents tired of poor schools and services will likely soon have separate city‚ even as opponents cry racism

Thousands of Louisiana residents who voted years ago to create a separate city out of a section of Baton Rouge will likely soon have their wish now that the state supreme court gave a major ruling in their favor.The move to create a separate school district in the St. George region of southeastern Baton Rouge began more than a decade ago and quickly evolved into a movement to create a separate City of St. George in the hopes that residents there would receive better services in exchange for their hard-earned tax dollars. A 2015 measure to create the city fell just short. Four years later‚ a similar measure passed with 54% of the vote.As often happens when disgruntled voters don't get their way‚ opponents of the new city quickly went to court to try to stop it from being officially established‚ claiming that St. George would take tens of millions in desperately needed tax resources from Baton Rouge.For a while‚ the naysayers succeeded. In 2022‚ a district judge ruled that the proposal for the City of St. George was &;quot;unreasonable&;quot; and doubted that the city would operate under a balanced budget. Then last year‚ the First Circuit Court of Appeals ruled that those who created the initiative to put the proposal on the ballot in 2019 failed to follow state law.On Monday‚ those victories came to a screeching halt at the Louisiana Supreme Court‚ which ruled 4-3 that organizers had followed the proper procedures to incorporate the new city‚ thus overturning the lower courts' decisions. State leaders have already taken steps to create the city. In 2020‚ the legislature created the St. George Transition District with the power to levy taxes for the time being. Should St. George become officially incorporated‚ as is expected‚ Republican Gov. Jeff Landry will appoint an interim mayor and five interim council members. In the future‚ city residents will elect leaders for themselves.The initial proposal to create St. George established boundaries that would have given the city a population of about 68‚000‚ but subsequent changes to the boundaries mean that the city will actually have closer to 100‚000 people. As is the case in the general U.S. population‚ 12% of the residents living inside the borders of St. George residents are black. However‚ since the black population in Baton Rouge is 47%‚ detractors are claiming that the creation of St. George is yet another manifestation of racism.The St. George region is &;quot;predominantly white and affluent‚&;quot; the AP noted with concern. The Advocate likewise added that &;quot;the St. George movement&;quot; may be &;quot;inherently racist as it creates legal lines of segregation.&;quot;Indeed‚ an NAACP statement about the state supreme court's ruling similarly fretted about &;quot;potential segregation and unequal resource distribution.&;quot; &;quot;Our children and community deserve a stable‚ equitable‚ and inclusive environment‚ and we implore decision makers to prioritize these fundamental values‚&;quot; it asserted.But St. George proponents insist that they just want to see their tax dollars better spent. In fact‚ the campaign slogan for the measure to create the city was &;quot;Better Government‚ Local Control.&;quot; Chris Rials‚ one of the leaders of the movement to create St. George‚ called for healing and unity with their Baton Rouge neighbors. &;quot;We extend an open invitation to neighborhoods and businesses contiguous to the city of St. George to be a part of the coming renaissance of East Baton Rouge Parish‚&;quot; he said.&;quot;We are open for growth and your business.&;quot;Like Blaze News&;#63; Bypass the censors‚ sign up for our newsletters‚ and get stories like this direct to your inbox.
