President Donald Trump expressed sympathy for his predecessor’s cancer diagnosis and surprise that the diagnosis was so recently revealed. Former President Joe Biden’s office announced Sunday that Biden has an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer. The statement said that Biden received the diagnosis on Friday. “I think it’s very sad, actually. I’m surprised that the public wasn’t notified a long time ago because to get to stage 9, that’s a long time,” Trump told reporters on Monday afternoon. Biden’s cancer is stage four, but he received a Gleason score of nine, Grade Group 5. A Gleason score is a metric for grading prostate cancer. Higher scores, such as a nine or 10, suggest a much more aggressive, faster-spreading form of cancer. “I just had my physical. You saw that, you saw the results of that particular test. I think that test is standard to pretty much anybody getting a physical, good physical,” said Trump. Trump added that his physical included “cognitive tests” and said “anybody running for president should, you know, take a cognitive test.” Biden’s office said in its Sunday statement that the former president’s prostate cancer has “metastasis to the bone.” “While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management,” the statement said. “The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians.” Biden posted a message on social media Monday: “Cancer touches us all. Like so many of you, Jill and I have learned that we are strongest in the broken places. Thank you for lifting us up with love and support.” The Sunday announcement has sparked skepticism from some physicians who say that, given the advanced form of Biden’s cancer, it is likely the former president was diagnosed much earlier. Dr. Chris George, the medical director of Northwestern Health Network’s cancer program, said he would be shocked if Biden received a normal PSA, a prostate cancer screening result, within the past year. “I would assume that the former president gets a very thorough physical every year,” George told Reuters. “I would be interested to know what his PSA was the last time it was checked.” “It’s sort of hard for me to believe that he’s had a PSA within the past year, that was normal,” he said. “It’s possible. It’s definitely possible, but that would surprise me … Usually prostate cancer doesn’t, you know, go full throttle like this too often. When it does, that’s usually a bad, bad sign. That’s an aggressive cancer for sure. But it does seem odd to me.”

The families of three Florida law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty last year were presented the first-ever “Medals of Sacrifice” by President Donald Trump in the Oval Office on Monday. Trump handed out the medals to the loved ones of Cpl. Luis Paez, Jr., Deputy Sheriff Ralph Butch Waller, Jr., and Deputy Sheriff Ignacio Dan Diaz, all former officers with the Palm Beach County, Florida, Sheriff’s Office. The officers were killed after they were struck by an SUV on November 21, 2024. “Today, we also remember three remarkable heroes who will become the medal’s first-ever recipients. It’s a big honor,” Trump said. “This was a terrible tragedy, shook the entire Palm Beach community like very, very few events I’ve ever seen,” added Trump, whose Mar-a-Lago estate is in Palm Beach County. “All of Florida mourned their loss, and today, our entire nation joins in honoring these three incredible patriots taken from us. The driver of the SUV attempted to pass a slower car but overcompensated and hit all three law enforcement officers on the side of the road. A fourth officer who was on his way to help his colleagues restart the motorcycle witnessed the fatal collision. Paez, 58, had served in law enforcement for 36 years and was described as a “devoted family man.” Fifty-one-year-old Diaz had served for 20 years and received several awards recognizing his work over that time. He is “remembered as a caring and devoted father, partner, and lover of animals.” Waller, 54, had served for 18 years and was known for his “charm, wit, and an infectious smile.” The president told the officers’ loved ones in the Oval Office that the country is “eternally grateful for their sacrifice.” “We’ll never forget their legacy, and we’ll never forget the debt we owe all of these great law enforcement heroes who have given their lives to keep our communities safe, and make America strong again,” the president added.

Hello, this is Victor Davis Hanson for The Daily Signal. There’s this controversy about the 747 airplane that Qatar gave to President Donald Trump. And there’s a lot of backstory, subtext to it that we haven’t really pondered. The Left says that it’s unethical for the Trump Foundation to eventually get possession of it. But let’s just break it down very quickly. Qatar has this huge 2013 747. It doesn’t seem to want it. It’s been on the market since 2020 and there were no takers. It gave its twin to Turkey, free of charge. What I’m getting at is a 747 is an obsolete aircraft unless you’re the United States. And we have two, both of them nearly 40 years old. And we’re trying to build two new ones that Boeing is retrofitting. But if you’re Qatar, the idea that you’re going to use this kind of older plane and get mechanics and the fuel costs, it’s not an economic viable plane. And they were trying to unload it to Turkey, which took it, and to us. Donald Trump is going to have the Air Force take it. Here’s the other thing that’s important. Sen. Markwayne Mullin from Oklahoma has alleged that these negotiations about receiving the plane actually began during the Biden administration. I don’t know if that was true. But it would be logical because the two Boeings that Donald Trump had authorized before he left office in 2021 were never really finished. Boeing sort of dragged on and on. The Biden administration didn’t press them. And they may not be done until Donald Trump is out of office. So, what are we talking about? We’re talking about getting kind of a white elephant airplane from Qatar. It’s very elaborate. If we get it, we’ll probably have to spend the same cost as the Boeing. It would have to be updated with suitable communications, suitable security apparatuses, and refueling capability. Maybe it would be another $500 million to $1 billion to get this. Will it be done before Donald Trump leaves office? I doubt it. So then it hinges on, well, what is Donald Trump going to do with it after he leaves office? He says his foundation is going to have it. Remember when former President Ronald Reagan set up his library, his 747 that had been used, subsequently, by Presidents George H.W. Bush and George W. Bush and Bill Clinton was given to the Reagan library. And he didn’t use it. It was defunct at that point. And it’s there today as a museum piece. Do people really think that when Trump leaves office this sort of white elephant 747 that looks like the interior of the Titanic is going to be flying the Trump family around? They already have a 757, this really expensive plane to maintain and to fuel. And it may or may not be retrofitted in time. So, there’s only one ethical question, and that is, if the Trump Foundation really wants it, I don’t think it’ll be economically viable to use, but they should just announce in advance that it will be a museum piece and all of the controversy will be ended. I’d like to end, though, on another aspect. The Left is really pressing the Trump family on conflict of interest: the cryptocurrency companies that they’re involved with; Jared Kushner’s dealings with some of the Gulf monarchies; the Trump companies cutting deals in the Middle East with golf courses, hotels, etc. It would be very wise—because Trump is at a critical point in his administration where he cannot bleed anything—to have an informal ethics adviser, in my opinion. And just to reassure this predatory media—not that you have to cater them or not that you have to listen to them—but just someone in the administration, an ethics czar, that advises all of the Trump family and associates to make a firewall between them and presidential assistance. And this is especially important because one of the reasons that Donald Trump was elected, he made a very convincing case that the Biden consortium was absolutely corrupt: the Burisma money to Hunter Biden; the laptop text that incriminated the entire family; the bogus checks that said “loan repayment”; the inexplicable three homes of former President Joe Biden; the $35 million that came from places as diverse as Ukraine, Romania, and China. Given all that and how it hurt Biden, it would be wise for Donald Trump to make sure that the plane—which, again, is a white elephant—stays as a museum piece in his foundation when it’s turned over from the U.S. Air Force, if that’s going to happen, to the Trump Foundation. And secondly, have someone in the White House just advise everybody that if they’re going to do business, it has to be separate from and distinct from the foreign policy initiatives of the administration. As Whitney Houston sang, it’s “Learning to love yourself.” To poet Eman Awad, the greatest love is “The feeling i feel but i don’t understand.” “No greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends,” according to the Gospel of John 15:13. None of these comes close to the love that cannot be measured, even with the finest instruments at NASA or Cal Tech: Democrats’ love for illegal-alien criminals. Break into this country and keep breaking the law, especially violently, and there will be no limit to the love that today’s Democrats will show you. •Consider Milwaukee Judge Hannah C. Dugan. She faces federal obstruction and concealment charges for helping Mexican illegal alien Eduardo Flores-Ruiz escape her courtroom, just as ICE officers closed in. As Paul Simon once sang, Dugan told Flores-Ruiz: “Slip out the back, Jack.” So, he did. But FBI agents nabbed him. So, who is Flores-Ruiz, to whom Dugan expressed so much love? Was he a misunderstood farm worker or a Wisconsin dad trying to help his twin daughters graduate kindergarten? “This criminal illegal alien has a laundry list of violent criminal charges including strangulation and suffocation, battery, and domestic abuse,” said Department of Homeland Security spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin. “Ruiz illegally entered the US twice.”     McLaughlin added: “Since President Trump was inaugurated, activist judges have tried to obstruct President Trump and the American people’s mandate to make America safe and secure our homeland—but this judge’s actions to shield an accused violent criminal illegal alien from justice is shocking and shameful.” Democrats who cannot stop shouting, “No one is above the law!” regard Judge Dugan’s prima facie lawbreaking as no biggie. Predictably, they see this story’s villain as Donald J. Trump.   “On the face of it, this is dangerous and outrageous, and it is designed to intimidate our judiciary,” Rep. Becca Balint, D- Vt., whined about Judge Dugan’s arrest.  “This is a drastic escalation and dangerous new front in Trump’s authoritarian campaign of trying to bully, intimidate, and impeach judges who won’t follow his dictates,” Rep. Jamie Raskin, D- Md., wailed. “This is an unmistakable descent further into authoritarian chaos.” Would Balint, Raskin, and other Dugan Democrats identify a simultaneous escalation and descent into authoritarianism if the Trump administration arrested a GOP-appointed state judge who instructed a pro-life abortion-clinic bomber to rush down the back stairs to escape FBI agents with handcuffs? •Newark Mayor Ras Baraka and U.S. House Democrats Bonnie Watson Coleman, Rob Menendez, and LaMonica McIver (all from the Garden State) tried to breach ICE’s Delaney Hall Detention Center in Newark, New Jersey. They wanted to conduct loving “oversight” of the incarceration of multiple MS-13 members and such fine gentlemen as: Mr. Lopez-Reyes (charged in Mexico with child rape), Dominican Maximo Nunez (arrested for assault with a deadly weapon, with intent to kill), and Brazilian fugitive Ramos Marin (wanted there for homicide.) •This love reached honeymoon levels for Kilmar Abrego-Garcia the so-called “Maryland dad” who actually is a Salvadoran illegal alien, gang member, wife beater, human smuggler and designated terrorist. Never mind! Congressional Democrats have flown to El Salvador to hold hands with Abrego-Garcia, who is being held in his native country, after Trump deported him. Sen. Chris Van Hollen of Maryland comforted Abrego-Garcia over margaritas. Attorney General Pam Bondi summarized via X the terrorist-group-association accusations against this “Maryland dad.” The evidence shows Kilmar Abrego-Garcia has repeatedly been identified as a member of MS-13 by:     A Maryland county police gang unit      A reliable confidential informant      ICE officers      An immigration judge agreed      An appellate board agreed A recently released police video shows Tennessee State Troopers stopping Abrego-Garcia in 2022 as he transported eight illegal aliens from Texas to Maryland. Oddly, none had luggage. Abrego-Garcia drove a vehicle owned by illegal alien Jose Ramon Hernandez Reyes, a convicted and deported human smuggler. Abrego-Garcia’s wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, surely wishes that he loved her as much as Democrats love him. “I have pictures of the evidence, like all the bruises, because even on Wednesday, he hit me like, around like 3:00 in the morning,” Vasquez Sura told investigators. “He would just wake up and like, hit me. And then last Saturday, for my daughter’s birthday party, before I went to my daughter’s birthday party, he slapped me three times. And then last week, I did call the police. My sister called the police because he hit me in front of my sister.” The Democrats who, until recently, called themselves “The Party of Women” now romantically obsess over a domestically abusive husband. Each of us should be fortunate enough to savor love even one-tenth as pure, intense, and burning as the Democratic Party’s infinite love for the smugglers, robbers, wife-beaters, rapists, and murderers who break into this country and accelerate their criminal careers. “We publish a variety of perspectives. A federal district court judge has blocked President Donald Trump’s efforts to reform the U.S. Institute of Peace by firing personnel and changing the agency’s management.  In a ruling in a case brought by former Institute of Peace board members fired by the Trump administration, Beryl Howell, a senior judge of the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, rejected the Trump administration’s authority over the agency. gov.uscourts.dcd.278529.40.0_2Download The judge, appointed by President Barack Obama, wrote that the administration had ignored “the broader statutory goals set out for this organization [USIP] to fulfill,” and had “removed the Institute’s leadership, including plaintiff Board members and its president in contravention of statutory limitations.” Early in his second administration, Trump had sought to reform the agency. That involved replacing the president of the institute with a Department of Government Efficiency employee, terminating most of the agency’s staff, and transferring ownership of the institute’s property to the General Services Administration.  Howell concluded that the Trump administration’s actions were illegitimate and therefore “null and void.” Reacting to the judge’s decision, Rep. Andy Ogles, R-Tenn., told The Daily Signal, “President Trump was elected to root out waste, fraud, and abuse. He’s doing exactly that—but activist judges are blocking him at every turn,”  “Congress can—and must—fire these judges who think it’s acceptable for American taxpayer dollars to fund corruption like this,” Ogles added. The judge’s decision is another roadblock to the Trump administration’s efforts to curb the federal bureaucracy in Washington by making it both more efficient and accountable to the priorities of the chief executive, whom the American people elected in November. The Trump administration has also been locked in a dispute with U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg over its ability to initiate deportations against illegal aliens.  The Trump administration had argued in the case before Howell that the Institute of Peace should be categorized as an “executive branch component of the nation’s federal government exercising executive power through executive functions,” whereas the opposing counsel argued the institute is a “free-standing nonprofit.” Howell concluded in her ruling that the agency should not be considered a “part of the executive branch.” Ogles pointed to information alleged in a post by DOGE as justification for the president’s reforms.  “Before DOGE, the U.S. Institute for Peace gave $132,000 to Mohammad Qasem Halimi, an ex-Taliban official, and over $2.2 million to its outside accountant, who then tried to delete more than a terabyte of financial records. All while burning hundreds of thousands on private jets,” Ogles told The Daily Signal.  The president’s actions with the institute mirror what he did with the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). Secretary of State Marco Rubio announced in March that 83% of the agency’s programs would be canceled. Rubio has been acting head of the agency since February.
