A homeless man is in critical condition after police and firefighters responded to reports of someone on fire in New York City’s Penn Station. According to reports, the NYPD said a 67-year-old man was found on fire around 8 p.m. on Friday near New Jersey Transit tracks 11 and 12. “Firefighters have confirmed that the individual sustained burn injuries from direct flames and are coordinating with EMS for further assistance. It is unclear how the incident occurred. He was hospitalized with severe injuries and last listed in critical condition. There have been no arrests and police have not said what may have led to the incident. Law enforcement sources said the man appeared to be homeless, and a preliminary investigation does not appear to suggest that the man set himself on fire. The transit station fire comes less than a week after a sleeping woman was set on fire aboard an F train in Brooklyn. The woman’s suspected fire-starter was indicted Friday on murder and arson charges. Prosecutors have alleged the Sebastian Zapeta fanned the flames with a shirt before watching the woman burn from a platform bench. The victim, a 67-year-old homeless man, was taken to New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical Center in critical condition. He suffered burn injuries to his legs and upper body. The cause of the fire is under investigation with police working to determine if the fire was started by the victim or someone else.

Lake lost a narrow gubernatorial race in 2022 to Gov. Katie Hobbs (D-AZ) and followed that performance with a loss to Gallego two years later. Despite her fight in both campaigns, Lake inadvertently helped Democrats capture the former Republican-dominated state. Trump recently endorsed Republican Karrin Taylor Robson, who faced Lake in the 2022 primary for governor, in the 2026 gubernatorial race. Hobbs will likely seek reelection and will be the Democratic nominee. Such an endorsement likely excludes Lake from the 2026 race, meaning she would have to wait until 2028 for another significant election in the state. By then, Trump will be on his way out of office.

Have you noticed there is major angst building up lately? I had a friend mention to me yesterday that it seems like a lot of people are suddenly having overly-emotional responses to things right now, often times out of character for how they would normally respond. I thought about it for a bit and I realized he’s exactly right. I’ve been noticing it everywhere I go, have you? Friends, family, coworkers, random people out in public….everyone just feels tense and “on edge” right now. And I think I know why: I think we’re all just in one giant holding period right now, with everyone waiting for January 20th.  In the meantime, we’re in this awful purgatory waiting room where Trump is “kind of” President but not officially yet.  Biden and Harris are still technically in office.  And every day there’s a new report on how the Deep State will try and prevent President Trump from actually taking office. It’s not far-fetched either, keep in mind they’ve already tried to kill him twice.  Literally.  Nothing is “off the table”.  And if you think it is and you think it’s just “fear porn” reporting to be aware of these issues, then you’re the type of person who would rather bury their head in the sand than face reality and prepare for all outcomes.  You’re a blue pill person from the Matrix. So the fear and the angst and the general unease permeating the world right now is not hard to figure out. Then even once he does finally take office, if he gets that far, we face the very real and likely prospect they will crash the markets worse than the Great Depression to try and stop the MAGA agenda from having any access. I think intuitively we all know and see these giant risks and as we sit here in December 2024 in this horrible waiting room, we’re uneasy.  We’re nervous.  We’re tense. And that tension spilled over yesterday, finally erupting online (mostly on X) as H-1B Visas suddenly became the lightning rod for all this tension. Many people expected a rift would eventually form between Elon Musk and Donald Trump, but most figured it would be over attention and popularity, not over....H-1B visas. And yet here we are. There seems to be general agreement that having an open platform for the best and brightest to come into the USA quickly and to take NEW jobs not currently being done by anyone is a good thing.  But only for the cream of the crop. There also seems to be general agreement that using the program to simply replace existing American workers with immigrants who will work for 50% less is wrong and should be stopped immediately.
