Scientists Identify 7 Stars That Could be Hosting a ‘Dyson Sphere’–the Sci-Fi Concept Turned Realistic Hypothesis

Astrophysicists recently put one of the great hallmarks of science fiction culture to the test, and used it to identify 7 stars that may harbor an alien civilization. The 7 stars are glowing with infrared radiation in a way that cannot be explained by naturally occurring phenomena yet known to science. The theoretical superstructure known […] The post Scientists Identify 7 Stars That Could be Hosting a ‘Dyson Sphere’–the Sci-Fi Concept Turned Realistic Hypothesis appeared first on Good News Network.

Israeli Youth Ultimate Frisbee Teams Banned From Major European Competition

The Israeli youth Ultimate Frisbee teams have been banned from competing in a major championship in Belgium. “It is heartbreaking,” coach Daniel Ben David told The Daily Signal. The coach arrived in Belgium on Monday with his teenage players in tow. After playing Ultimate together for three years, the coach of the under 17 open team, meaning men and women can both participate, says his youth players felt confident ahead of the multi-day European Youth Ultimate Championship. But after traveling over 2,700 miles to play in the tournament, his young Israeli team and one other were told they were not allowed to compete or attend the tournament, which is being held Aug. 6-10 in Ghent, about an hour northwest of Brussels.  The Israeli open and mixed Israeli Ultimate Frisbee youth teams pose for a photo. (Photo: Courtesy of Daniel Ben David.) Due to safety concerns and the violent threats of pro-Palestine demonstrations as the war between Israel and Hamas rages on and tensions grow in the Middle East, Ben David said the European Ultimate Federation, which is hosting the tournament, told the youth teams they were not permitted to compete.  On Tuesday, the European Ultimate Federation and European Flying Disc Federation sent the Israeli teams a notice of “evaluation” announcing that the city of Ghent “Prohibits the participation of the Israeli delegation in the U17 European Championship Frisbee Tournament organized by the European Ultimate Federation.” The “decree” continues, noting that the “presence of the Israeli delegation” is also prohibited at the tournament, and further stating that “local police will oversee compliance.” Official communication released by EUF and EFDF Board (Ref_ 001_6_8_24 23_00)Download The European Ultimate Federation, European Flying Disc Federation, Ghent Mayor Mathias De Clercq, and the Ghent police didn’t respond to The Daily Signal’s request for comment.  When initial security concerns were raised before the team arrived in Belgium, a compromise was reached for the Israeli team to compete at a different field that was seen as safer. But on Tuesday morning, Ben David said the team received a message from the organizers of the tournament telling the team “don’t come, your field has been vandalized.”  Vandals splashed red raid and wrote “BOYCOTT ISRAHELL NOW!” on one of the walls of the stadium complex in De Pinte, about 25 minutes south of the fields in Ghent where the other teams are competing.  “Other than that, the field is completely fine, no vandalism,” Ben David said, adding that the personal security the Israeli teams travel with advised that it was safe for the teams to proceed as planned and compete.  The team’s personal security “told us … ‘if we feel something is wrong, even in the middle of a game, we will take you from there and we will not come back,’ and we told that to the organizers and they still didn’t listen,” the coach said.  Ben David and the other coaches gathered their players to tell them “we won’t be competing, unfortunately, because the city and the organizers have prevented us from even entering the city.”  Sharing the news with his players “was one of the hardest moments for me as a coach,” Ben David said. “To see the expressions on the kids’ faces, they were all pretty much crushed, crying … it was really hard because you could just see how all of their happiness [was] draining from their faces.”  Ben David describes his team of 16 players as “a small family.”  “They’re devastated,” Marina Gelfand-Kaplun, one of the player’s mothers who is traveling with the team, told The Daily Signal.  “I never thought that my … kids, too, will have to deal with anti-Semitism and this horrible situation, I never thought in my life,” Gelfand-Kaplun said. “I thought by the time I’ll have kids, we won’t have this, but apparently we do.”  While the situation is “beyond unfair,” the mother said her son and the other players will “learn from it and rise from it. This is what we always do.” The Under 17 European Youth Ultimate Championships are held once every three years, Ben David explained, so his players will have all aged out by the time the next under 17 championships are held.  Admitting he might be a bit biased, the coach says his team “would have won this tournament if they would have played because they’re so experienced, they’re so controlled, and they’re so mature.”  Teams from across Europe are competing in the championship, including teams from Austria, Belgium, France, Germany, Great Britain, Italy, Sweden, and Switzerland. About half the other teams, according to Ben David, have reached out to the Israeli teams and said they believe what is happening is wrong. Israel has been competing in both youth and adult European Ultimate tournaments for over 20 years, the coach said. “We’re doing everything in our power to make sure this never happens again,” he said, “because if they succeed and don’t get punished for it, then this becomes a regular thing for [Israeli] teams” to be excluded from competitions.  The Israeli team is “working to take legal action” against the city of Ghent, the European Ultimate Federation, and the organizers of the tournament, the coach says.  “This is sports. Let’s keep politics out of it,” Ben David said, “especially when it’s children.”  The post Israeli Youth Ultimate Frisbee Teams Banned From Major European Competition  appeared first on The Daily Signal.

EXCLUSIVE: CNN Receives Major Blow from Court in Defamation Case

CNN was handed a major defeat in the $1 billion defamation case against them by Florida’s First District Court of Appeals on Friday as they denied the Cable News Network’s motion for a rehearing; their hope was that the court would overturn its decision that Plaintiff and Navy veteran Zachary Young could seek punitive damages at trial. In one sentence, the court shattered CNN’s final attempt to delay financial discovery, which would open up CNN’s check books for examination: BY ORDER OF THE COURT: The Court denies the motion for rehearing en banc, or alternatively, for certification of conflict with the decisions of the Third and Fourth Districts and of a question of great public importance docketed June 26, 2024.  As NewsBusters previously reported, CNN was refusing to comply with turning over documents necessary for financial discovery.  “Despite an appellate court’s affirmation of Plaintiff’s right to plead punitive damages, CNN continues to stonewall discovery efforts into its ability to pay punitive damages award based on its pending motion for rehearing,” Young’s lead counsel Vel Freedman wrote in a filing requesting the court compel CNN to comply.     Further in the filing, Freedman also noted the concern that “CNN’s intransigence threatens to derail the trial schedule,” which was currently slated to begin January 6, 2025. He explained to the court that CNN was dragging their feet by willfully misinterpreting what their agreement was for when financial discovery would begin: In short, (1) the parties agreed Plaintiffs would not seek financial discovery until after the First District Court of Appeals issued a ruling on CNN’s appeal, and (2) the COurt set a deadline for that financial discovery to conclude. At no point was financial discovery formally stayed, or even agreed to be stayed until the “full determination of CNN’s appeal. (...) To date, CNN has refused to produce any documents in response to Plaintiffs’ discovery requests. “The Plaintiffs’ Motion to compel responses to financial discovery should be denied until—as the parties agreed, and the Court ordered—Cable News Network Inc.’s still-pending interlocutory appeal has been “fully determined,”” CNN’s lead counsel Deanna K. Shullman pleaded with the Florida’s 14th Judicial Circuit in a motion filed two days before the ruling came down. With the ruling on Friday, CNN’s unilaterally applied trigger for financial discovery was tripped, leaving them no other recourse but to allow the Young to see inside their purse. As NewsBusters previously reported, the appeals court ruled that punitive damages could be sought (in addition to economic and emotional damages) because Young was able to show malice on behalf of CNN: Young proffered internal communication showing, at minimum, CNN employees had little regard for him. In those messages, CNN employees called him a “shitbag” and “a-hole” and remarked they were “going to nail this Zachary Young mfucker.” Marquardt referred to him as “fucking Young” and quipped, “it’s your funeral bucko.” (…) Young sufficiently proffered evidence of actual malice, express malice, and a level of conduct outrageous enough to open the door for him to seek punitive damages. In a post on X, Freedman shared his excitement about the ruling. “The First DCA just denied CNN's motion for rehearing en banc or for certification to the Florida supreme court. Punitive damages stand and we're off to trial!” he said.   The First DCA just denied CNN's motion for rehearing en banc or for certification to the Florida supreme court. Punitive damages stand and we're off to trial! pic.twitter.com/b02t5TTRGb — Vel Freedman (@VelvelFreedman) August 9, 2024   Still, CNN is stonewalling in other areas. They’re refusing to allow anchor Jake Tapper to be deposed as part of the case, and they’re refusing to turn over their journalistic conduct guidelines.

Public high school football players get baptized on school field, sparking First Amendment debate

Florida public high school football players got baptized on a school field last month, which has sparked a First Amendment debate on freedom of religion and the separation of church and state.Brevard Public Schools said the baptisms took place July 18 after an off-season football conditioning session at Astronaut High School in Titusville, Florida Today reported. Titusville is just under an hour east of Orlando and a few miles west of the John F. Kennedy Space Center.'I could not be more proud that 25 young adults gave their lives to Christ and the kingdom grows! ... The community is overwhelmingly rejoicing with these young adults! God will use it for good!'Video of one of the baptisms shows a player sitting in a metal tank filled with water. A man tells the player he's going to baptize him "in the name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit." The man then dips the player's head backward into the water, and pulls his head back up again as he tells the player, "Risen in new life." The crowd around the tank then applauds. The caption of the Instagram post containing the video indicated that 25 players were baptized. The post drew a number of comments as well; one commenter asked, "Why is religion making its way into schools? This isn’t a religion school ... Hmm. I don’t like this." Another commenter declared, "That is awesome. Praise God!"Brevard Public Schools didn't know about the baptisms until Monday, Florida Today reported, citing district spokesperson Janet Murnaghan. "The event was not a school sponsored activity," Murnaghan said. "It’s our understanding that it was student driven."The post's caption also said Brevard School Board chair Megan Wright's church performed the baptisms, and that 25 players took the plunge.Florida Today said Wright didn't respond to its request for comment but noted that she said on her personal Facebook page that while she had "no part" in the baptisms, the moment was a happy one. Megan WrightImage source: Brevard (Fla.) School Board website "I could not be more proud that 25 young adults gave their lives to Christ and the kingdom grows!" Wright wrote, according the paper. "... The community is overwhelmingly rejoicing with these young adults! God will use it for good!" Florida Today said Astronaut High Athletic Director Matthew Ahlstedt declined to comment.More from Florida Today:Students, teachers and other employees at a school can engage in private religious expression within the school, according to the U.S. Department of Education. However, public school employees can't lead activities like prayers or devotionals, and they can't try to persuade students to participate in, or not participate in, religious activities, according to the U.S. Supreme Court.Students, on the other hand, can engage in religious activities with their peers and try to convince other students to join them. Florida law generally aligns with federal law, saying that students may organize religious activities. School personnel can participate in religious activities on school grounds, as long as these activities are initiated by students before or after the school day, if the activities are voluntary and if they don't conflict with school personnels' responsibilities.School districts are also required to give religious groups the same access to their facilities that they would give to secular groups without discrimination based on the group's religion.Anything else?July's baptisms were far from the first time such an event took place:When two student-athletes were baptized on a Tennessee public high school football field in August 2019, a "concerned area resident" got in touch with the Freedom From Religion Foundation, which in turn fired off a letter demanding the district "stop promoting and endorsing religion to students."A few months prior, the FFRF objected after a video depicted "several football players" being baptized on Alabama public school property. The FFRF prevailed in September 2015 when a Georgia school district acknowledged that an event during which more than a dozen football players were baptized on public school property violated official policy. Middle school lunch lady accused of sexually abusing, grooming 14-year-old boy; takes plea deal to avoid trial

A Connecticut middle school lunch lady accused of sexually abusing and grooming a 14-year-old boy has accepted a plea deal to avoid trial.Andie Rosafort, 33, pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual assault and impairing the moral of children at a Thursday hearing in Danbury state court, according to the Connecticut Superior Court clerk’s office.According to police, Rosafort picked up the teen from a January 2023 party and drove a short distance before having 'contact of a sexual nature' with him inside her vehicle.A lunch aide at the New Fairfield Middle School, Rosafort allegedly sent illicit photos to a student she met at the school.Rosafort had been facing charges of second-degree sexual assault, risk of injury to a minor, and enticing a minor by computer, according to the News-Times. The New York Post reported that the terms of her plea deal are unclear but that she would avoid a trial that was scheduled to begin this week as a result of accepting the deal. The Post said her attorney, William Westcott, did not respond to the paper's request for comment. In January 2023, school administrators notified law enforcement after a friend of the alleged victim said a school employee sexually assaulted the teen, according to state policeProsecutors claim Rosafort sexually assaulted the boy in her SUV after grooming him for months on social media and through text messages. Citing an affidavit, WTNH-TV previously reported the student told police that Rosafort had been his lunch aide when he was in the eighth grade. The teen allegedly added that she had been talking to him for six months through Instagram and Snapchat. The alleged victim reportedly told investigators that he received a message from Rosafort that read: "You want to see something?" He claimed that Rosafort then sent him a nude photo of herself. The teen asked the lunch aide if she sent the explicit photo by accident, and then she sent him a second nude photo, according to the affidavit. "Rosafort allegedly continued sending unsolicited nude photographs and videos of her masturbating to the victim for months," WTNH reported. "The victim also told police Rosafort would attend his sports games and send him videos of him playing, according to the affidavit."The alleged victim purportedly said Rosafort asked the 14-year-old to send her nude photographs of himself.According to police, Rosafort picked up the teen from a January 2023 party and drove a short distance before having "contact of a sexual nature" with him inside her vehicle. The teen's friends noticed he was acting strange when he returned to the party, and the boy admitted that he had "left the party to have sex with a woman," according to the Daily Mail. The teenager reportedly said he "ended the encounter because he began to feel weird about it."Police reportedly used phone location evidence to determine that the alleged victim and Rosafort were in the same place when the alleged sexual assault occurred.Like Blaze News? Blaze News original: 5 Hollywood actors who are unapologetically Christian

Hollywood is an industry typically known to be secular. However, there are a handful of prominent Hollywood actors who are unapologetically Christian. This list of Hollywood celebrities who have devout Christian faith features box office stars to critically acclaimed actors to beloved television icons. These actors deliver messages of hope, discuss their spiritual journey, and proudly stay true to their religious convictions. These Christian actors use their elevated platforms to spread the word of God, even when voicing their support for religion could bring on criticism from their peers and the media. Some of these world-class actors have gone far beyond proselytizing by headlining family-friendly films and jumpstarting faith-based entertainment projects. This list of Hollywood actors who are unapologetically Christian will highlight their notable achievements related to their faith and their inspiring messages about religion.Chris Pratt Jeff Kravitz/FilmMagicChris Pratt has openly proclaimed, "It's authentic for me to be pro-Christian, pro-Jesus — that's my thing."Pratt was named the winner of MTV's "Generation Award" in 2018. He delivered a speech with some life advice while accepting the award. "God is real. God loves you. God wants the best for you. Believe that — I do," Pratt told the audience at the MTV Movie & TV Awards. The "Jurassic World" star continued, "Learn to pray. It's easy, and it's so good for your soul.""You have a soul. Be careful with it," he said of another life rule."People are going to tell you [that] you’re perfect just the way that you are," Pratt said. "You’re not. You’re imperfect. You always will be, but there is a powerful force that designed you that way, and if you’re willing to accept that, you will have grace. And grace is a gift. And like the freedom that we enjoy in this country, that grace was paid for with somebody else’s blood."In the same year, Pratt won at the Teen Choice Awards and invoked the name of God during his acceptance speech. “I want to thank God. I always do that when I’m up on a big platform in front of a bunch of young faces,” Pratt declared. “I love God. That’s my thing, I love him! And you should too!”Also in 2018, the A-list actor gave an impassioned delivery of the Gospel of Luke at Disneyland's annual Candlelight Processional.Pratt has gone on the 21-day "Daniel Fast" — which is based upon the prophet Daniel's fasting experiences as recorded in the Bible.Pratt met his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger, at church. Pratt said of his 2019 wedding with Schwarzenegger, "We became husband and wife in front of God, our families, and those we love. It was intimate, moving, and emotional. We feel so blessed to begin this new chapter of our lives."Katherine previously said, "[Faith] is a huge part of our relationship and also just a huge part of our lives."In 2020, the "Jurassic World" actor launched the Indivisible Productions company. "One nation under God indivisible," he said. "Our mission statement is to create entertaining content, focusing on themes which will help to bridge the growing divide in our country and world. You know, make the world a better place."The "Guardians of the Galaxy" star responded to online hate by turning to his faith. "That's the way it is — nothing new," Pratt said in 2023, adding of Jesus Christ: "Two thousand years ago, they hated him too."He continued, "If I was of this world, they would love me just like that but as it is, I’ve chosen out of this world. That’s John 15:18 through 20."Joe Rogan said Pratt is "one of the nicest people I’ve ever met in my life," and he gets attacked because of his Christian faith. “He’s kind of outside the lines in terms of his ideology, he’s a Christian, and pretty open about it. Because of that, they attack him," Rogan stated. In March, Pratt wrote an Easter message on Instagram that read: "HE IS RISEN! Happy Easter. He transformed my life. He can transform yours as well. I promise you. Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life."Candace Cameron Bure Paul Archuleta/Getty ImagesCandace Cameron Bure began her acting career as a child and became a household name by starring as D.J. Tanner in "Full House," which debuted in 1987. However, she has more recently been acclaimed for living a genuine Christian lifestyle. Bure has starred in several family-friendly movies and TV shows, often with faith-based messages. Candace became a regular on the Hallmark Channel, starring in numerous feel-good holiday movies and in the popular "Aurora Teagarden" mystery series.Bure has garnered a large Christian audience. Candace has used her celebrity to promote Christianity through her acting career, promotional appearances, and inspirational biblical messages on social media. The "Fuller House" actress is also an accomplished author, who has written several books on faith, health, and personal growth. Bure told BlazeTV host Allie Beth Stuckey, "We started going to church for the first time, and I was sitting in the church and heard a sermon one day, and I really didn't know what it all meant. I just heard if you want Jesus in your heart to be the Lord and Savior over your life, then say this prayer and ask Him into your heart. And so at 12 years old, I did that, and that's when I became a Christian."She continued, "My prayer life is pretty strong, my conversations with him are very strong. Really, it’s a battle of the mind, a lot of disordered eating is, and so if I pull the Holy Spirit into my mind, and I’m constantly praying and asking God to renew my mind, it helps."Candace told Stuckey, "I am a devoted Christian, which means that I believe that every human being bears the image of God. Because of that, I am called to love all people, and I do. If you know me, you know that I am a person who loves fiercely and indiscriminately. My heart yearns to build bridges and bring people one step closer to God, to love others well, and to simply be a reflection of God's huge love for all of us.""If you don’t start with [prayer] there’s no power behind it, because God’s the power. God can do anything, change anything — change hearts. It’s the heart of all of us that need to be changed and that’s where God needs to get in," Bure said on "The Billy Hallowell Podcast."Bure also stated, "My faith is just my life, it’s a part of it. It naturally flows from me, and I feel like I’ve navigated my entire career differently than most people have. The goal for me isn’t necessarily the next project or making more money or being a bigger star. I’ve always chosen the things that are true to me and that I’ve wanted to do."Candace added, "I've been an outspoken Christian pretty much my whole life. I love sharing my faith with people, and I haven't always incorporated that in the movies and television shows that I've been in over the last 40 years."Patricia Heaton Leigh Vogel/Getty Images for Concordia SummitPatricia Heaton is an Emmy Award-winning actress best known for her roles in popular sitcoms like "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "The Middle." Heaton is also known for her strong Christian faith and traditional values.Heaton had a strong Catholic upbringing, which has been a cornerstone of her life."My sister is a Dominican nun. My grandparents met Pope John Paul I. My mom was one of 15 children. I have some 100 first cousins on my mom's side," Heaton said. "So, we're a very Catholic family."The Emmy Award-winning actress is a mother of four and has emphasized the importance of family in her faith-based household. Heaton said of being Catholic and working in Hollywood, "As much as people want to paint Hollywood as a sort of anti-religious place, I have found that going into work, we're all there to do a job. We're all there to be professional. We all respect each other. We share opinions, different opinions. And because we love each other and we have a common goal of creating something wonderful for people to enjoy, the differences in our religion or politics or whatever, in my experience on a set, have not been a problem."Throughout her career, Heaton has been unapologetically pro-life and has not shied away from her conservative politics. In 2020, Heaton slammed Democrats for supporting abortion: "Why would any civilized person want to support a barbaric platform that champions abortion for any reason through all nine months funded by taxpayers?"During an appearance on the "The Storytellers with Andrew Erwin" podcast, Heaton proclaimed, "God, in His mercy, withheld any success from me because I wanted it too much. [I] really wanted to be famous — acting was the center of my life, as opposed to God being the center of my life, for a long time, and it would have been ruinous for me if I had been successful any earlier than I was."She continued, "I think it only happened in the timing it did because I was able to center God in my life, and when that happened, I think He knew it was safe for me to start being successful and have all the things that come with that."Heaton told the Christian Post in 2021, "It's kind of our job here as Christians to certainly extend the love of Christ, the love that He extended to us, to extend it to others through our actions."She extends that love through her humanitarian work and is an ambassador with World Vision — a "Christian organization that fights poverty and injustice that affects children, families, and communities in nearly 100 countries around the world."In December 2022, Heaton revealed on the X social media platform that she had read the entire Bible in exactly one year and it was "just revelatory." She began, "A year in the making. I finally did it!" Heaton explained, "Some days were just revelatory, I saw things I had never seen before. And some days were kind of a slog. You know just going through it and pushing through. Just feeling like I don't know what any of this is about, mostly Old Testament stuff."Mark Wahlberg Nathan Congleton/NBC via Getty ImagesMark Wahlberg has declared that his relationship with God is "the most important part of his life" and his faith in God "is what makes me a better man."Wahlberg stated in 2013 that his faith is "the most important part of my life," but noted, "I don’t try to push it on anybody and I don’t try to hide it."In a 2016 interview with Square Mile, Wahlberg declared, "I pray every day and try to go to church every day. My faith in God is what makes me a better man. It's the most important part of my life. I pray that I will live up to my intention to be the best husband and father than I can be. I never would have been able to change my life and have the success and love that I have in my world today without my faith."During a 2022 appearance on the "Today" show, the "Lone Survivor" actor said of his children, "But even with my faith, I don't force it on them. But they know that dad can’t start the day without being in prayer, can't start the day without reading my Scripture or going to Mass. And hopefully, instead of forcing that on them, they'll say, 'Well, if it works for dad, maybe it'll work for us,' and they'll kind of gravitate towards it on their own."Wahlberg invested "millions and millions" of his own money into making the faith-based movie "Father Stu," which is based on the true-life story of agnostic Golden Gloves boxer-turned-priest Stuart Long – who goes on a journey from self-destruction and crime to redemption.Wahlberg said of the religious project, "I'm kind of doing all this not to continue to grow my career, but to utilize my career for good and to do God’s work. If this is a movie that really changes people’s lives and motivates them and inspires them to do great things — you know, all I really gotta do is convert one person, and I get to go through the pearly gates."The "Ted" actor added, "I feel like this is starting a new chapter for me in that, now, doing things like this [with] real substance can help people. I definitely want to focus on making more. I wouldn’t say necessarily just faith-based content but things that will help people."Wahlberg — one of Hollywood's biggest box office stars — proclaimed, "Look, I will not hide the fact that I love the Lord and I want to be committed to serving the Lord, but I also don’t jam it down anybody’s throat. But it’s better to never have known God than to deny God. I mean, that’s not a good look. That’s not a good look."Denzel Washington Michael Kovac/Getty Images for AFIAcclaimed Hollywood actor Denzel Washington is the son of a Pentecostal preacher and has been steadfast in his dedication to his Christian faith throughout his illustrious career. Washington — who has been nominated 10 times for an Academy Award and is a two-time Oscar winner — utilizes his massive platform to share his religious beliefs. Washington has been an integral part of films that have religious undertones, including "The Book of Eli," "Fences," and "A Journal for Jordan." "The spirit of God is throughout the film," he said of "A Journal For Jordan." "I have more than one spiritual leader in my life. So there's different people I talk to, and I try to make sure I try to put God first in everything."In 2021, Washington told the New York Times, "If you don't have a spiritual anchor you'll be easily blown by the wind and you'll be led to depression." The Oscar-winning actor added, "I'm a God-fearing man. I try not to worry. Fear is contaminated faith."The "Training Day" star stated, "In heaven, there are going to be two lines, the long line and the short line, and I'm interested in being in the short line."As Blaze News previously reported in 2021, Washington delivered a speech at "The Better Man Event" — a Christian convention for men.Washington asked, "What is our role as a man?
