I had tears in my eyes." Billy Sheehan continued: "[My friend] was kind enough to give me (Cliff's) number, so I thanked him in person. And what a wonderful guy and what an incredible player. And wow. I was completely blown away. [It was] one of the nicest things anyone's ever done for me. As I mentioned, I still float up to the moon — just the idea of it. And the thing is just perfect. And so playing McCartney on that is just so enriching and so cool. I will sit down with that bass, I think, on my next birthday and have a bottle of wine and put 'Sgt. The only classic UFO members who are still alive are the guitarist Michael Schenker, vocalist Phil Mogg and the drummer Andy Parker. As Mogg announced this year, the group was over and he started a new solo band called Moggs Motel, releasing the debut album. Schenker recently released a solo record with many special guests, making new versions for UFO classic songs. In an interview with Made In Metal (Transcribed by Blabbermouth), he recalled why he left the band in the 70s and then in the 90s, also talking about his current relationship with the other UFO members. But Phil I see once in a while because he lives in the next village to mine. And that's it. We wave at each other. That's about it." He also talked about leaving the band in the 70s: "(After 'Lights Out - 1977), at that moment, because it became a hit, I felt the pressure that now everything had to be — I wasn't free anymore. I felt like we are gonna be whipped, making money for management, et cetera, until we are dead. And so I didn't like the feeling of being in a spotlight and having to do things." "I like to have fun doing things, not having to do things. Music, for me, is fun, not having to do it. And so therefore I actually sold everything and I was done with it. I did not want to be part of the rat race and staying in a race of who is gonna be the most famous. I was not interested in that. For me, my passion is music and self-expression. So, after two months, Pete Way, he persuaded me to come back, and I did. And I did 'Obsession', and then finally after 'Stranger In The Night', I went my own way and to fulfill my own vision." Michael Schenker then continued talking about his reunion with the band in the 90s: "Phil came over to America with his manager and he begged me, 'Michael, please, please. UFO is completely destroyed. Can you help me to rebuild UFO?' And I said, 'Okay. Three conditions. One is I get half of the name." "Number two is we do it with all six original members, including (producer) Ron Nevison. And number three is that we sell the records on the road. And that was it. He agreed to it. And we did a fantastic album… [Later on] Phil broke the agreement and he didn't want to stay with the conditions, so I didn't think that was fair, so we kind of departed for a while," Michael Schenker said. He would like to perform with UFO one last time In a recent interview with Rock Candy magazine, Schenker said he would be open to play one last show with the band. He is currently promoting his new album “My Years With UFO”, which covers tracks he recorded with the band and the band’s vocalist Phil Mogg is promoting his debut album with the new band Moggs Motel. Formed in London, England in 1968, they became in the following decades one of the most influential Hard Rock bands of all time. Besides Mogg, some of the other classic members of the band were Pete Way (Bass), Andy Parker (Drums) and Michael Schenker (Guitar). In almost five decades of career, the band released 22 studio albums, the final one being “The Salentino Cuts” (2017). They were a huge influence to famous bands like Iron Maiden, for example. Formed in New York City back in 1981 by the guitarist Scott Ian and bassist Dan Liker, Anthrax became one of the most influential Thrash Metal bands of all time. They are part of the big four and are one of the most successful bands of the sub-genre. Their debut album was "Fistful of Metal", released in 1984 but they started to become more famous with the second one, "Spreading the Disease" (1985). In an interview with Metal Hammer, Scott Ian recalled that it was because of that album that they got banned from MTV for a while. Scott Ian explains why Anthrax was banned from MTV in the 80s That record had the song "Madhouse", which is one of their most famous tracks, which is a song about going insane. The music video shows them playing in an insane asylum with several mental patients. After submitting the video to MTV, they received a letter saying they were banned. "It was submitted to MTV, which was a bit of a long shot anyway for a band named 'Anthrax' and playing the music we played. MTV came back to us and very politely said, 'We will never air this. You are banned from MTV, because we feel that you are making fun of the mentally impaired. We were like, 'What?!'" "We were like, 'Fuck MTV anyway! Who needs this shit?!' This was before Headbangers Ball became a thing in the 80s. We were very excited about it. I think the label put out a press release saying we were officially banned from MTV. Of course, that gets people excited," Scott Ian said. In an interview with The Town with Matthew Belloni (Transcribed by Classic Rock), the producer Peter Jaysen talked about the possibility of these new biographical movies about Barrett and Elliot. Syd Barrett and Cass Elliot biographical movies are being planned “Due to our involvement with Bob doing A Complete Unknown, we’ve been fortunate enough that right now we’re working on, with Wash Westmoreland, the great writer-director, a Syd Barrett movie, one of the founders of Pink Floyd." “We have had multiple Zooms with the estate of Mama Cass Elliot and met with her daughter, Owen, and are close to acquiring the rights to her book, My Mama Cass,” the producer Peter Jaysen said. The late singer, guitarist and songwriter Syd Barrett helped to form Pink Floyd in 1965 and due to his declining mental state after years of drug abuse and a possible undiagnosed schizophrenia, the band decided to invite David Gilmour to join the band. He was supposed to be the one who would back up Syd in case he had erratic behavior when playing live, not singing or not playing guitar parts properly. However, Syd’s condition got worse and he was eventually fired from the band. Cass Elliot was one of the co-founders of the influential American group Mamas and the Papas. She was the first member of the group who passed away. In the late 60s many incredible bands that would be crucial for the evolution of Hard Rock were formed. One of them was Deep Purple, group which had the legendary guitarist Ritchie Blackmore. He was a fundamental part of the band's sound and created some of the most memorable guitar riffs and solos of the history of music. But they were not the only British band that influenced many generations of musicians, UFO also was also an important group. But what is Ritchie Blackmore's opinion on them? Ritchie Blackmore's opinion on UFO Blackmore actually likes UFO and when VH1 listed the Greatest Artists of Hard Rock in 2000, the guitarist commented on a few bands. One of them was UFO, which was in the position number 84. About the group, Blackmore said: "UFO, that's an interesting band. They kind of represent the roots of English Blues based Rock." The interesting thing is that Deep Purple and UFO were both formed in 1968 and were really important for Rock and Roll especially during the 70s. The singer Graham Bonnet who had also been a member of Rainbow was Schenker's vocalist in 1982 and then from 2016 to 2020. The singer Doogie White, who was a member of Rainbow in the 90s and was Schenker's vocalist from 2013 to 2016  and from 2018 to 2020. The singer Ronnie Romero who was Rainbow's vocalist when Blackmore activated the band again during the last decade, was Schenker's vocalist from 2020 to 2023. Michael Schenker was also hired with two ex-Rainbow members as session musicians. He continued: "Everybody who left, or most people leaving Rainbow, would come to MSG. It was kind of very strange. Then even the Purple asked me to join them. It was just kind of very powerful, very, very closely connected. But yet, we don’t really know much about each other. But we have very similar things happen to us in life. (...) That’s one other thing! (We both have great taste when it comes to musicians)," Michael Schenker said. As the German guitarist recalled, he was asked to replace Blackmore in Deep Purple in the 90s. It was when the British player left the band for good. According to the German guitarist they first invited him before talking with Joe Satriani, who ultimately accepted the offer. Schenker said he felt tempted to accept the offer, just like he felt when Ozzy invited him. However, at the time he reunited with UFO and he felt there was more potential in being with them again. The first Deep Purple song Schenker ever heard in his life was "Child in Time" and a few years later he had the chance to see the band live.
