Odai al-Rabei, a 22-year-Gazan who has been involved in anti-Hamas protests, was abducted from Gaza City, tortured, and murdered by terrorists before being returned to his family home, according to his family. Graphic images of al-Rabei’s mutilated body went viral on social media showing the extent of the torture by Hamas’s al-Qassam brigades terrorists. Odai’s family was seen in a video accusing a “sinful, rogue group affiliated with the Qassem Brigades” of the act, adding that “they dragged him and tortured him to death with all kinds of hard tools.” The family added that the “unjust criminals” should face an “iron fist.” “Odai fasted Ramadan, he prayed, and he read the Quran,” the family added. “We call on all human rights organizations and institutions to stand in support of the people of Gaza against these criminals. O Allah, take revenge.” At his funeral procession, thousands of participants voiced their rage chanting, “In spirit and blood we’ll redeem you, Odai,” and “Out, out, out! Hamas out!” according to the Jerusalem Post. According to Palestinian activist Hamza Howidy, in Odai’s last video posted to social media, he spoke about Hamas terrorizing his family and shooting his brother.  Gazans took to the streets three days last week all around the strip, calling for an end to Hamas rule, in a rare display of opposition to the terrorist group. Protesters marched through Beit Lahiya in northern Gaza carrying white flags, demanding Hamas end its rule, and calling for the Israeli hostages to be released. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the rare anti-Hamas protests in the streets of Gaza over the past two days are proof that Israel’s policies are working. “In recent days, we have seen something we have never seen before — public protests against Hamas rule in Gaza,” Netanyahu said in the Knesset, Jewish News Syndicate reported. “This shows that our policy is working.” Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz praised the protesters and encouraged others to join in, calling it the “only way to stop the war.” “Learn from the residents of Beit Lahiiya, as they did, you should also demand the removal of Hamas from Gaza and the immediate release of all Israeli hostages,” Katz said. “This is the only way to stop the war.” He added that military operations will soon spread in Gaza, which may require more evacuations from combat zones. “The plans are ready and approved. Hamas is risking your life and will make you lose your homes and more and more land that will be added to the Israeli defense array,” Katz said. The protests marked the first time Gazans had taken to the streets to call for peace since January 2024, though those protests were smaller. In recent weeks, Israel eliminated more than a dozen Hamas leaders, many of whom were key to maintaining Hamas’ control over Gaza’s population, beyond just its militant operations. In addition to air strikes, IDF troops have begun ground activities in central and southern Gaza to create a buffer zone between the north and south of the strip. “We eliminated tens of thousands of terrorists and senior murderers,” Netanyahu said while speaking during a debate in the Knesset, which his political opposition is able to call once a month. “As long as Hamas persists in refusing to release our hostages, the pressure we apply will become stronger and stronger. This includes capturing territories and other moves I will not elaborate on here.” Netanyahu’s comments build on Katz’s threat to annex part of the Gaza Strip if Hamas continues to refuse to release the 59 hostages held by the terror group. “I have instructed the IDF to seize additional areas in Gaza, evacuate the population, and expand security zones around Gaza to protect Israeli communities and IDF soldiers,” Katz said, according to The Jerusalem Post. “The more Hamas persists in its refusal to release the hostages, the more territory it will lose, which will be annexed to Israel.”

WASHINGTON—In a major break from established tradition, the White House will now decide which reporters get the coveted seats in the briefing room, not the White House Correspondents’ Association, Axios reported Sunday. A senior White House official told Axios that the communications staff have formalized a plan for “fundamental restructuring of the briefing room, based on metrics more reflective of how media is consumed today.” The White House’s new layout will include reporters from digital outlets, print outlets, TV, and more. The digital group includes “new media” outlets, according to Axios, like The Daily Wire, Axios itself, Semafor, and influencers. “The goal isn’t merely favorable coverage,” the White House official told Axios. “It’s truly an honest look at consumption [of the outlets’ coverage]. Influencers are important but it’s tough because they aren’t [equipped to provide] consistent coverage. So the ability to cover the White House is part of the metrics.” The legacy outlets who have enjoyed, until now, prominent visibility and easy access to the White House press secretary, should expect less prominence, Axios reported. “We want to balance disruption with responsibility,” the official told the publication. The White House did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It’s a move that many reporters in the briefing room had been hoping for since the beginning of President Donald Trump’s second administration, as journalists crowded into the small space and fought for White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt’s attention. Very few reporters from right-leaning outlets currently have a seat in the room, with the exception of Fox News, The Daily Caller, and the New York Post. Reporters who do not have a seat stand in the aisles on the left and right sides of the room, some arriving several hours early to have a better location during the briefing. Aisle standing comes with its own perils — less considerate reporters who arrive late sometimes attempt to stand in front of journalists who arrived early. Shorter reporters may be blocked by taller ones. Leavitt might not be able to see standing reporters if they aren’t in the very front of the room. Seating in the briefing room was formerly controlled by the White House Correspondents’ Association, otherwise known as the WHCA. The WHCA also decided which reporters had access to “pool rotations” — the group of journalists who have the most intimate access to the president, going to the Oval Office and other privileged spaces to cover him. When the White House announced in February that it would take over pool rotations, White House Correspondents’ Association president Eugene Daniels said that the move “tears at the independence of a free press in the United States” and “suggests the government will choose the journalists who cover the president.” Daniels did not immediately respond to The Daily Wire’s request for comment. In January, Leavitt announced that the White House would be making room for “new media” journalists in the press room, allowing nontraditional, news-related content producers to directly question the press secretary and other administration officials. “We welcome independent journalists, podcasters, social media influencers, and content creators to apply for credentials to cover this White House,” she said at the time. “The Trump White House will speak to all media outlets and personalities, not just the legacy media who are seated in this room, because according to recent polling from Gallup, Americans’ trust in mass media has fallen to a record low,” Leavitt said. “Millions of Americans, especially young people, have turned from traditional television outlets and newspapers to consume their news from podcasts, blogs, social media, and other independent outlets,” she continued. “It’s essential to our team that we share President Trump’s message everywhere and adapt this White House to the new media landscape in 2025.”

Sunday's edition of MSNBC's The Weekend featured a clip from a town hall in Indiana's 5th Congressional District. In November, Trump and Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz carried the district handily: by 16 and 18 points, respectively. Yet the crowd overwhelmingly and raucously cheered the suggestion that the congresswoman should demand Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth's resignation, given the Signal chat that mistakenly included a journalist.   Co-host Symone Sanders claimed the cheering people were district "constituents," and co-host Michael Steele took it a step further, saying they were Republicans. The show provided no evidence to support either statement. Did MSNBC make any effort to confirm the residence or registration of the crowd members? Hypocrisy-proof Steele concluded the segment by saying: "This sets up additional narratives, I think, for voters as well as journalists to dig a little bit deeper and find out a little bit more." Amen, Michael! Why don't you "dig a little deeper" and report back what percentage of the crowd were, as you and Sanders claimed, Republican constituents of the 5th district? Everyday Americans are demanding action from Republican members of Congress, even as the president dismisses their concerns.  At a fiery town hall on Friday, voters urged Indiana Congresswoman Victoria Spartz to demand the resignations of cabinet officials who discussed sensitive military movements on the unsecured messaging app Signal.  TOWNHALL AUDIENCE MEMBER: Won't you demand the resignation of Pete Hegseth? [The overwhelming majority of the crowd goes wild, cheering the suggestion.] SANDERS: I mean, Indiana's 5th Congressional District is not a bastion of a Democratic stronghold, if you will. Very red place.  Despite that spirited response from her constituents, though, Spartz said she would not call for resignations over the administration's recklessness. That falls right in line with what Trump just exclusively told our NBC News colleague Kristen Welker. Quote, I don't fire people because of fake news and because of witch hunts.  What is the fake news and what is the witch hunt?  MICHAEL STEELE: [Laughs] Well, they're all the same. Look, we're in the childish game portion of all of this where, you know, Trump gets out and whines and stamps his feet and pouts and stomps and stamps, you know. And Republicans, you know, they wind up doing the same thing and looking very silly.  But the audience, that room of Republican voters in a red district have a different understanding of what they're seeing and witnessing from this administration, and they don't like it.  ALICIA MENENDEZ: It's interesting to me, too. I mean, the decision to talk about it at the town hall, obviously it came from the fact that voters brought it up, but the NRCC has issued guidance saying, don't touch this thing, stay on message. And and while she was not willing to call for his resignation, she also did not carry the water on the idea that this is this is trivial or unimportant.  SANDERS: Yes. Because people can again, the administration is asking you to ignore what you can see with your own eyes. STEELE: Right. SANDERS: And to ignore what what you believe in your own understanding. They're asking you to defy logic. And I think people should push back.  STEELE: And they are. And that's the best part of this.  And I think as this next week unfolds, this sets up additional narratives, I think, for voters as well as journalists to dig a little bit deeper and find out a little bit more.
